Time to put on those travelin’ shoes and go a-fishin’
The first time I saw the great Elvin Bishop, we were both younger men. It was back in the early ’70s, in Raleigh, N.C., right about the time he put out his excellent and underrated album “Let It Flow.” Looking through the song list from that album — “Travelin’ Shoes,” “Stealin’ Watermelons” — is like going back in time.
That album also included Elvin’s classic celebration of fishing, the aptly titled “Fishin’.” It’s a critically important theme, so important that Mr. Bishop felt obligated to revisit it at more length in a later song, the equally aptly titled “Gone Fishin’ Again,” as in “me and my no-good friends are gone fishin’ again.”
Which of course we are. See ya’ll back here in a couple of weeks. Be good, be cool and be wishin’ you were with us, ‘cuz we plan on having us a damn good time.

Frog, I would agree other than creating a “right” of the purported father to have a say in the decision. But frankly if in reality, that would be a compromise to get the rest (birth control, education, realistic preventative methods) and to stop harrassing women, I would likely even accept it with the right protections and safeguards.

A House Republican plan to slash funding for a Social Security program would cost taxpayers far more than it would save, according to a letter from Social Security’s chief actuary. …Social Security’s chief actuary Stephen C. Goss concludes that cuts will cost taxpayers “between $5 billion and $6 billion more over the lifetime of those who would not be reassessed due to the reduced funding.” The cut would hamper the highly-effective program that roots out waste, fraud, and abuse in Social Security — according to Goss, such reviews produce between $6 and $9 in regained savings per dollar spent. While the analysis only covered the impact on the program this year, future cuts would likely have a similar impact on the program.

The Romney campaign released a statement Thursday defending his plan to lower the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent. The plan amounts to a major tax cut for Big Oil, a Center for American Progress Action Fund report finds. Ewrin, if its a clean energy credit, I am all for it. The analysis needs to be deeper … and look at the need for certain incentives and the long term needs and direction. Fossil fuels are old technology. We need to encourage cutting edge technology with sensible programs and that does not depend on who is in charge.

Headline: “Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at Salt Lake grocery store”
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – “A citizen with a gun stopped a knife wielding man as he began stabbing people Thursday evening at the downtown Salt Lake City Smith’s store.
Police say the suspect purchased a knife inside the store and then turned it into a weapon. Smith’s employee Dorothy Espinoza says, “He pulled it out and stood outside the Smiths in the foyer. And just started stabbing people and yelling you killed my people. You killed my people.”
Espinoza says, the knife wielding man seriously injured two people. “There is blood all over. One got stabbed in the stomach and got stabbed in the head and held his hands and got stabbed all over the arms.”
Then, before the suspect could find another victim – a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. “A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith’s grabbed him.”
