The first time I saw the great Elvin Bishop, we were both younger men. It was back in the early ’70s, in Raleigh, N.C., right about the time he put out his excellent and underrated album “Let It Flow.” Looking through the song list from that album — “Travelin’ Shoes,” “Stealin’ Watermelons” — is like going back in time.
That album also included Elvin’s classic celebration of fishing, the aptly titled “Fishin’.” It’s a critically important theme, so important that Mr. Bishop felt obligated to revisit it at more length in a later song, the equally aptly titled “Gone Fishin’ Again,” as in “me and my no-good friends are gone fishin’ again.”
Which of course we are. See ya’ll back here in a couple of weeks. Be good, be cool and be wishin’ you were with us, ‘cuz we plan on having us a damn good time.

British media hammer Romney on Olympic comments
LONDON—On day three of his overseas tour, Mitt Romney woke up to unfriendly headlines from the British media, who continue to trash him for telling NBC News that he found preparations for the Olympics here “disconcerting.”
“Mitt the Twit,” declared The Sun tabloid, trashing Romney as a “wannabe president.”
The Independent headlined their take on Romney’s trip, “Romneyshambles”—accusing him of not only committing a diplomatic gaffe but later “the cardinal sin of U.S. politics, flip-flopping” on his criticism.
The Daily Telegraph suggested Romney’s “Olympic gaffe” had overshadowed his trip to London.
Meanwhile, the conservative Daily Mail slammed Romney as “devoid of charm, offensive and a wazzock.”
Romney’s comments led newscasts on both Sky News and the BBC on Thursday night and early Friday morning, just hours ahead of the Olympic opening ceremonies here.
“Is this guy really prepared to be president?” one Sky News reporter asked in his Thursday night report about Romney’s day in London. The reporter trashed the GOP candidate’s comments as “just daft.”
Romney has repeatedly tried to dial back on his criticism, first in a news conference Thursday outside 10 Downing Street, where he had met with British Prime Minister David Cameron—who had been publicly critical of Romney’s remarks earlier in the day.
[Get more updates from Romney's overseas trip by following @hollybdc on Twitter]
In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan Thursday night, Romney again tried to contain the controversy, telling the CNN host he believes the London games will be successful.
“It’s great. It’s absolutely fabulous,” Romney said of being in London for the games. “You know I’d never been to an Olympics before I was given the Olympic job. I mean I’ve done the same thing everybody else did. I watched the games on TV. But to actually be here and to experience not just the athletes but also the volunteers who are working hard and excited, and then the whole community comes together… It’s fabulous.”
Citing the “enthusiasm” of the people in London, Romney added, “I think you are going to see terrific games that will be long time in our memories.”

We have abortions for the lack of a better word convenience. Its inconvenient for the 18 year old to have an unplanned baby or a 25 year old to have an unplanned child when she is unmarried and the pregnancy is the result of a fling or a guy she is dating that she is not serious about
Well when you have killed brain cells by drinking and then blogging drunk, this kind of garbage is bound to spew out when you have some issues with women.
25% of all abortions are by women over 30.
In fact, half of all women getting abortions report that contraception was used during the month they became pregnant.1 Some of these couples had used the method improperly; some had forgotten or neglected to use it on the particular occasion they conceived; and some had used a contraceptive that failed. No contraceptive method prevents pregnancy 100% of the time.
The decision to have an abortion is rarely simple. Most women base their decision on several factors, the most common being lack of money and/or unreadiness to start or expand their families due to existing responsibilities. Many feel that the most responsible course of action is to wait until their situation is more suited to childrearing; 66% plan to have children when they are older, financially able to provide necessities for them, and/or in a supportive relationship with a partner so their children will have two parents.8 Others wanted to get pregnant but developed serious medical problems, learned that the fetus had severe abnormalities, or experienced some other personal crisis. About 13,000 women each year have abortions because they have become pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

You know what really got me about Doom’s argument from last night? The apparent sincerity with which he uttered it while *simultaneously* taking the opposite position with respect to Romney’s taxes and investments.
A woman has a perfectly legal abortion, but Doom wants to diss her because of the *reason* she had it.
And Doom defends Romney’s use of legal (?) tax avoidance manuevers and offshore banking for whatever reason he wants.
In short, he’s holding pregnant women to a higher moral standard than that which he applies to a man who’s trying to become President.
Fecking AMAZING.

The U.S. economy proved to be stronger than thought last quarter, as the country’s gross domestic product rose more than expected albeit at a tepid pace.

Peadawg — “Goal post movement.”
Denied.
“Don’t change the subject, Joe.”
Didn’t change it. Just pointed out the hypocrisy of the con position. “It’s legal” is sometimes sufficient for y’all to overlook ethically questionable behavior. And sometimes it’s not. I’d like to know why Romney gets the benefit of the doubt there, but legions of pregnant women don’t.
“I couldn’t give a fat baby’s d*k what the cons say about Romney’s taxes and investments.”
And that makes you part of the problem, Peadawg.
“Answer my question.”
Already did. You just don’t like the answer.

have been saying for several weeks now Romeny will get booted from the ticket.
Won’t happen. He’s their Only Hope. He’s come a long way from Total Reject in 08, to Numbre Uno.
from McCain’s file on Romney (2008)
Romney: “I’m wary of anyone who parlays background, money, and hair to political success.” (Tape 78)
Romney: “I thought becoming rich and famous would make me happy. Boy was I right.” (Tape 78)
Romney: “you don’t get a lot of honesty from politicians.” (Tape 75)
Romney: “We will certainly grow our spending.” (Tape 50)
Romney: “Pay me more taxes!” (Tape 17)
Romney: “There was about $260 million in fees that we raised.” ( Tape 5).

The Obama Recovery from the Bush Recession continues at a slow pace. The Bush Recession ended in April 2009 thanks in part to government stimulous and the rescue of the auto industry.
The Obama Recovery is impeded by the Ryan Headwinds factor. This factor has led to reducing employment in government, which offsets some of the gains in employment in the private sector. Had the Ryan Headwinds factor been restrained until after the Obama Recovery had taken firm hold, the unemployment rate would be well under 8%.

“y’all”
Who’s y’all?
“I’d like to know why Romney gets the benefit of the doubt there”
I’ve never given Romney the benefit of the doubt. Ask someone else, sport.
“Already did.”
No you didn’t. I’ll ask again: So as long as something’s legal, you’re ok with it? You shouldn’t speak out about it just b/c it’s legal?
A simple yes or no will do. No goal post movement. No “but but they do it too”.

SSI — “The accounting method used by Obama admin as you know is USGAAP

ROFL
At one of my last consulting gigs, the Director of Accounting had a color newspaper photo blown up and then taped it to his office door.
It was Jeffrey Skilling, late of Enron, being led away in handcuffs. A sign posted over the photo said, threateningly, DON’T MESS WITH GAAP.

Mitt Romney = more of the same that was trickled down on us when Bush was in office. Even cons know this but they have no one else so what are they to do. Vote Cain/Palin 2012. That’s the ticket.
