Time to put on those travelin’ shoes and go a-fishin’

The first time I saw the great Elvin Bishop, we were both younger men. It was back in the early ’70s, in Raleigh, N.C., right about the time he put out his excellent and underrated album “Let It Flow.” Looking through the song list from that album — “Travelin’ Shoes,” “Stealin’ Watermelons” — is like going back in time.

That album also included Elvin’s classic celebration of fishing, the aptly titled “Fishin’.” It’s a critically important theme, so important that Mr. Bishop felt obligated to revisit it at more length in a later song, the equally aptly titled “Gone Fishin’ Again,” as in “me and my no-good friends are gone fishin’ again.”

Which of course we are. See ya’ll back here in a couple of weeks. Be good, be cool and be wishin’ you were with us, ‘cuz we plan on having us a damn good time.

Stands for Decibels, 1:39,

The left is so adamant about 2nd Amendment repeal and gun control that you cannot trust them to just ban assault weapons and leave it at that. One foot into the door and then no one has the right to a weapon to defend their home against these thugs that roam cities at will and take innocent lives. Do we need an assault weapons ban? Damn right. Do we need to limit gun ownership to hunting weapons and weapons to defend your home and property? Damn right. But liberals want it all. If liberals don’t think gun ownership is a good idea, they believe that no one should be armed. And BTW, why is this a partisan issue? I am sure that there are Democrats out there that feel that the 2nd Amendment applies to all political persuasions.

The NRA is one of if not the most powerful lobbies (my membership and donations at work).

The Left has no political will remaining to challenge gun ownership.

The only thing happening is Obama’s unconstitutional acts where he bypasses Congress via regulation or turns to the UN for a treaty that will give away your sovereignty – in this case, the UN Arms treaty. Thank goodness it takes 2/3 of the Senate to pass a treaty.

Peadawg-this one?

The Chick-fil-A corporation has long funded anti-gay organizations. According to an Equality Matters analysis of public records, in 2010 the company’s foundation distributed nearly $2 million to anti-LGBT groups including the Marriage & Family Foundation, the Family Research Council, and Exodus International — and millions more in previous years. But this past March, when Northeastern University rejected a proposed contract to bring a Chick-fil-A restaurant on campus, a Cathy bizarrely claimed that the company had “no political agenda.” He said in a media statement “we are not anti-anybody and Chick-fil-A have [sic] no agenda, policy or position against anyone as some reports continue to represent.”

Chick-fil-A is one of a very small number of major national companies that refuses to offer any employment protections to LGBT employees. In fact, the company received a 0 rating from the Human Rights Campaign and has a record of firing employees it believes engage in “sinful” behavior. This is hardly a tradition of treating everyone “with honor, dignity, and respect.”

Either the company is once again trying to conceal its anti-LGBT activism or Cathy’s intention to “stay the course” lasted just three days.

Rabbitholes?

Like calling for legislation to monitor how much ammo someone buys or banning handguns?

Are CFA’s policies self described as “anti-gay” or “pro traditional marriage”.

carlos – you want to go after my education? Christianity never came up during my pursuit of either of my engineering degrees

Well, I turn my back to do my job and when I come back they’ve let godless heathen back on this blog. This shows how evil people are. Without somebody to put a boot on their neck people will just turn into savages.

williebkind,

The gays aren’t suzie’s problem. I’m looking out the window right now and it looks like 5 or so super secret agents from the Obama administration are at her stand amongst others. Hmmm. Looks like there’s someone from OSHA inspecting her stand, someone from the local zoning committee, the neighborhood Stalinists showing her the neighborhood bylaws against lemonade stands, the EPA is asking for proof of her having done an environmental impact study, looks like the ATF is there to make sure the lemonade aint spiked with moonshine(they’ve had her under surveillance), it looks like keep up the good fight is there with a suing client who says he was served lukewarm lemonade with only 2 ice cubes in it thereby resulting in a defective and shoddy product in the hot July sun, the city is there demanding to see her bidness license, the food inspection folks from the state just pushed the osha folks out of the way since both are trying to inspect her lemonade stand, and worst of all the IRS is there demanding to see past tax returns and pulling out handcuffs. Oh my gosh there is another lawyer there who just pushed aside keep up. It looks like he’s a patent attorney who says Suzie copied someone else’s patent on lemonade recipe. Oh my God its really bad now. There is someone there from the U.S. civil rights commission. Lil Suzie been listening to some Rush Limbaugh. Looks like the civil rights folks are charging her with a hate speech crime for listening to Rush with a radio loud enough to be heard from the sidewalk. Its bad over here folks. Really bad for lil Suzy.

Re: Chick Fil A: Whenever I go by one of their restaurants I see the Urban Assault Vehicles lined up all around the store. Mostly the ones with the fish symbol on the back, the little vinyl stick-figure family in the rear glass, and the My Child is an Honor Student at Creationism Academy bumper sticker. I wonder how much CFA’s appeal is the food and how much of it is politics/religion?

Well Betty, you don’t think that someone buying thousands of rounds of bullets in a period of a few days might at least trigger a cursory investigation? Funny, we require banks to report transacions over $10k……

The gun ban that I have seen discussed so far is for assault weapons….

why is it that the conned cannot talk about sensible gun legislation without going to the extreme fear mongering…..

LOL, Amvet!

Almost as bad as TV Dinners:

TV dinners there’s nothin’ else to eat
TV dinners they really can’t be beat
I like ‘em frozen but you understand
I throw ‘em in and wave ‘em and I’m a brand new man oh yeah!

TV dinners they’re goin’ to my head
TV dinners my skin is turnin’ red
Twenty year old turkey in a thirty year old tin
I can’t wait until tomorrow…. and thaw one out again oh yeah!

TV dinners I’m feelin’ kinda rough
TV dinners this one’s kinda tough
I like the enchiladas and the teriaki too
I even like the chicken if…. the sauce is not too blue.

“I think we need a ban on orange hair.”

Being a UGA fan I say ban orange-anything :) .

But yes, the Colorado shooting looks like a complete d-bag.

Red herring? Oh noes. Now Suzie is really gonna get it from the federal food inspection folks. There’s some kinda nonsense someone sayin about red herring and her lemonade. I dunno. Maybe she put raw red herring in her lemonade and now folks is getting salmonella. And word is that the lemonade as a result has a putrid, fishy smell. Looks like keep up’s client can now add in a dangerous product in one helluva product liability case against Suzy. Poor Suzy.

Keep – I know guys that buy thousands of rounds at a time on a regular basis, myself as well but not as regularly, I don’t see any of them as a threat….shooting is like getting to Carnage Hall…practice practice practice..

Regulations, rules, and laws won’t stop the determined

The gun ban that I have seen discussed so far is for assault weapons…

Assault weapons all already banned. Semi-auto rifles that resemble assault rifles but fire like grand-dad’s deer rifle are available.

The trouble with the previous “assault weapons” ban was that it banned weapons based on what they looked like. Black, scary-looking – ban it. I could go along with a ban on high capacity magazine sales except it’s just something to make liberals feel warm and fuzzy. They are too easy to make and sell on the black market.

Peadawg,

There’s a standard rule of thumb at Bama. Hate anyone that has orange in their color- UT, AU, Fla., Miami. You might want to incorporate the same rule of thumb since it includes in your case not just the first 3 but also Clemson- all 4 of which have been traditional uga rivals.
