Mitt Romney and his plan for ‘the little people’ out there

From National Journal:

“Mitt Romney held up the waiters and waitresses serving donors at a fundraising event Monday night as examples of people who aren’t doing well under President Obama.

Addressing 300 contributors who paid $2,500, $10,000 or $50,000 to hear him speak in Jackson, Miss., Romney acknowledged that the people in the room were well-off compared to many Americans. It was the middle class that had been let down by Obama, Romney said, and he pointed to the wait staff serving finger foods as an example.

“It’s tough being middle class in America right now,” Romney said. “The waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, they’re not having a good year. The people of the middle class of America are really struggling. And they’re struggling I think in a way because they’re surprised because when they voted for Barack Obama … he promised them that things were going to get a heck a lot of better. He promised hope and change and they’re still waiting.”

Let’s overlook the condescension in Romney’s description and instead focus on what the GOP nominee and his party propose to do for “the waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room,” serving his contributors drinks and food at Jackson’s River Hills country club.

More than 30 percent of Mississippi residents live in poverty. Some 650,000, including no doubt some of those waiters ferrying drinks and food, feed themselves and their children in part on food stamps, which Republicans want to slash drastically. The House Agriculture Committee just approved a measure cutting food stamps by $16.5 billion over 10 years. Among other things, the change would force some 300,000 children out of the free-lunch program at school.

One in five people in Mississippi — again including much of that wait staff, I’d suspect — have no health insurance. Romney is intent on repealing the only real hope they have of attaining health coverage that citizens of almost every other industrialized country somehow enjoy, and he has offered no plans on how to replace it.

In fact, Romney proposes to make it worse. To help finance his plan to cut individual tax rates by 20 percent, Romney proposes to slash projected Medicaid funding, a step that would significantly increase the number of poorer Mississippi citizens without health insurance.

On the other hand, according to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, the resultant tax cuts would produce average annual tax savings of $231,971 for the richest 1 percent of Americans, including many of those in Jackson who contributed more than $1.7 million to the Romney cause Monday night. But it will have almost no impact on the take-home pay of those waiters and waitresses.

Births to unwed mothers are a major social and economic problem in Mississippi, where more than half of all births are to single mothers. Romney proposes to address that problem by eliminating Title X family planning funding, producing a savings of $300 million.

Federal support for worker training programs in Mississippi and other states would also be slashed. And if those waiters and waitresses serving Romney’s donors have a particularly bright child waiting for them back home, someone whom the family has high hopes of sending to college, that dream will have less chance of coming true under a President Romney, who proposes funding cutbacks in federal student loans and tuition assistance.

This is the deal that the compassionate Mr. Romney proposes to offer those for whom he expressed such concern Monday night in Jackson. But not to worry.

“We’re accused, by the way — in our party — of being the party of the rich,” Romney told the crowd among the tinkling of glasses. “And it’s an awful moniker, because that’s just not true. We’re the party of people who want to get rich. And we’re also the party of people who want to care to help people from getting poor. We want to help the poor.”

He just has a peculiar way of showing it.

Republicans are the Party of the rich. They make little or not effort to hide this. Romney’s speech saying “we want to help the poor” was aimed at that part of the electorate too ignorant and locked in fundamentalist Christian ideology to see what the rest of us do.

Unfortunately, it seems most of the Republican electorate falls into this ignorant and blind category and we liberals are the only ones who
see what should be obvious to all.

This religious and ideological blindness is a social and cultural tragedy that threatens to eventually bring our Country down to third world status.

Why don’t you cite some statistics that show how many people that use this program actually get tangible job training and middle class jobs. Why can’t you realize that you can’t help people that won’t help themselves. Why can’t you admit what a joke our public education system has become despite outspending most of the industrialized world?

I am surprised he even noticed the waiting employees. When the debates come the biggest problem Obama will have is blowing short putts. Romney is so wide open O may be so shocked he blows it.

One of the things I noticed about Romney in his primary debates was he had no idea what his superpac ads were saying. When questioned about negative ads he would blow it off as someone else’s work not his but he would check into it. Not too unlike how he is handling Bain. I was not in charge during that period despite the name being on the door, I was running the Olympics, I am not responsible. Is this the kind of president we want? Not responsible, excuses, letting other people do his talking, fight his fights, but if something totally by chance comes good out of any of this confusion he take credit or collects his money. How much money did he collect during this irresponsible time of Bain, 20 million a year. He is everything wrong with America. I take the money but I am not responsible for the results. I can’t wait for the debates.

So, now it has come down to the fact that if we don’t keep subsidizing the poor, they will starve to death. And their kids will get no lunch and they will certainly starve. Then if we don’t give them EBT cards, they can’t get manicures, lottery tickets, ammo for their guns, booze and cash from the ATM machine to subsidize their needs. And if we don’t continue to subsidize their housing, like we have done for the last 50 years, they will be stuck without a roof over their heads. And if we don’t provide Aid to Dependent Children, a crisis will occur.
This has become a culture of dependency that liberals just have to perpetuate. Since 1964, we have been led to believe that those without must receive from those that have or they will not survive. What a crock!! Hell, the black family was better off in the 1920’s with discrimination looming over their heads than they are now. 70% of children born out of wedlock. No family to speak of. No supervision of the thugs that roam Atlanta and Macon GA at will, shooting most anyone they please. And most are recipients of this culture that you are so proud of. Bookman, you are as full of it as always, but today, perhaps even more. When will this dependency end? This has become the norm that liberals seem to be satisfied with and certainly blame the Republican party for not being willing to perpetuate. This is insane.

9) Romney is using Bush’s foreign policy team as advisors
10) Romney won’t release his tax returns to the American public as his father did….but when he showed his returns to the McCain campaign, McCain chose Sarah Palin…..which lends credence to the idea that Romney has something to HIDE!
11) Romney can’t relate to the American populace as a whole…….
12) Romney is pandering to the least in the base rather than espousing a policy that can ATTRACT a wider swatch of the constituency….

That’s MORE than enough NOT to vote for Romney…………….

What condescension? Waiting tables is honorable work, much better than setting on your butt watching TV while drawing a welfare check.

I don’t know how Mississippi compares to Atlanta, but the AJC report on the school testing scandal showed almost 100% of Atlanta public school children on the free lunch program. If that is true, and in fact all the families are that poor, which is unlikely, Atlanta has bigger problems than Romney becoming POTUS and I expect the same applies to Mississippi. In other words, people are getting the free lunch who should not.

Unwed pregnancies. The single mother birth rate has gone up steadily since LBJ’s Great Society, most alarmingly in blacks. Government assistance programs to blacks has destroyed the traditional family and made an unacceptable number completely dependent on the government.

Democrats are not doing blacks a favor unless you think keeping them on the government plantation is the answer.

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

In the ’20s, black males were HUNG by conservatives; now, black males are incarcerated at a rate 4 times greater than white males (the legal system)! Black men are UNEMPLOYED at double the rate of white men (the job market)! Those two CONSERVATIVE systems led to more single women-led families than any other issue….which led to the expansion of the welfare state!! Remember when it was ILLEGAL to educate blacks….now the decline in public education adversely affects ALL minorities……

The image of Obama, who set the record for campaign financing, and/or Kerry-moving his yacht to avoid taxes does little to assure the middle class that the rich democrats care any more then rich republicans.

The entire arguement of who cares more seems a bit insincere when it is a rich person arguing they are for the poor, be they democrat or republican.

Be it in front of $50,000 a plate fund raisers for Romney or $100,00 a plate raisers for OBAMA.

The truth is neither party wants to help the middle class. Be it the republicans cutting the benefits or the democrats taking from it via taxes, they are ultimately two rich guys arguing that they want to throw a crumb to the help !

The Democrat solution is to get more people beholding to the federal government, so they can buy votes through food stamps and other government provided sustenance programs. The problem is that these taxpayer funded programs are running out of money but that doesn’t bother the Democrats with their get elected/reelected at any cost mentality and the tools who vote for them. Romney on the other hand says we need to raise up the middle class and those living in poverty by creating the environment for private sector business growth and regaining a healthy economy that Obama has failed to accomplish. The choice couldn’t be clearer in November the continued deterioration of our economy and disappearing middle-class as we get closer to bankruptcy with each passing day or a new administration with the experience and vision to get this nation back on track.

The cons are very adept at fooling the less educated voters. They blame the Dems for doing something or not doing something, but they stick it to the middle class everytime.

Two examples:

My mom, who lives in GA, was complaining recently about her property value going down, but her property taxes going up. I questioned her and found that her homestead exemption was gone. I asked her which party ran the state of GA. I then told her that continuing to vote GOP was not in her best interest.

One of the con regulars on this blog the other day did not even know there was a law passed by congress years ago that gave tax breaks to companies that ship their jobs overseas. And twice in the last 3 years, the cons have voted down a bill which would have reversed this idiocy so that companies got a tax break for hiring in America.

The cons should look into what their party is doing before voting for the person with an “R” by their name. Unless you make a million dollars a year, there is no reason in the world you should be voting for the cons.

Steve Atl…… How are the Republican’s paying off the Iraq War debt ? What was the plan.or what is the plan ?

Answer: “We don’t need no stinkin’ plan.” We just put it on Obama’s tab. (yuk yuk)

Six years ago, “it was standard practice not to pay for things,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
“We were concerned about it, because it certainly added to the deficit, no question.”

Hey Repubs – Time to wake up – no tax returns – no nomination. It is not too late. How did that 401 K grow so enormously???????????????

”””””””””””’The most mysterious of the unexplained mysteries about Mitt Romney’s considerable wealth is how he was able to amass between $21 million and $102 million in his individual retirement account during the 15 years he was at Bain Capital LLC.

How did he do it, given the relatively small amounts that the law permits to be contributed to such a plan on an annual basis? Romney has not explained this conundrum, and seeing as he wants to become president, he would be wise to start talking — if for no other reason than there might be many Americans who would like to emulate what he did. “”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”

Huffington Post July 15 2012

Well, I had no idea waiters and waitresses got paid that good. Heck, I feel downright short-changed. I can’t hardly afford a meal at one of them sit-down restaurants—you know, the ones where you don’t have to get up and go to a buffet. Maybe I need to look into waitering instead of finishing up my career as a beer truck driver.

Maybe by the time Mitt’s thru his 1st term I’ll be able to pay $2,500 or even $50,000 for a meal. I know he’s got my needs in mind. It’s for dang sure the boss down at the warehouse don’t. I wonder what kind of tip Romney left for the waiters and bus boys? Trickle down?

John Stewart plainly explained the discrepancy in Romneys’s tenure at Bain last night. While Romney claims he stopped working for Bain in 1999, the tax records show him as CEO up to 2002. Romney claims he ended his duties and did no work at Bain after 1999. Then Stewart showed that Romney…wait for it…was paid $100K a year for the three years after 1999! $100k for doing nothing? Was that a tip for his past performance? Then Romney’s aide stated that he retired retroactively from 2002 to 1999! What? As Stewart said…Romney has a time machine!

So for all youz guys who think Booker T Washington couldn’t say what he said….he used Romney’s time machine!!!!!!!!! Maybe he’ll make “Back to the Future” Part 4?

I think the former is a) most likely, and b) equally if not MORE damning than the latter, because it only reinforces the notion that the system is rigged to favor those who’ve already go theirs.

There’d be a lot of voters who could forgive outright fraud. And before y’all get shocked, shocked at that… who hasn’t ever, in their lives, fudged some deduction (”I had a receipt somewhere, I’ll just guess what that contribution was…”) or maybe forgot to include some income that’d be a PITA to bother reporting?

If people spend their whole life trying to qualify for a free luch programs and welfare chacks and food stamp cards and relief form this and relief from that, all they will ever be is low to middle class at best. The rest of us strive for more, take chances, invest in ourselves, stay our of trouble, avoid spending on junk we don’t need or can’t afford, respect others and ourselves, don’t have too many kids and we live much better lives. Too many people are brainwashed into thinking the govt owes them more, always more. Thye’ll never break these shackles as long as they keep voting for wealth evnying, class warefare politicians who in theend keep them down like dumb little sheep.

I’m glad you support this Jay, you’ll be on the govt dole soon as well.

From Heritage Action for America:

A United Nations threat to U.S. sovereignty has been halted. The Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), a pet project of Senator John Kerry (D-MA), ran aground yesterday when opposition reached critical mass.

A total of 34 Senators, led by Jim DeMint (R-SC) and James Inhofe (R-OK), have now expressed opposition—enough to kill the treaty if it comes up for a vote.

Mitt Romney has insisted that he gave up all control of Bain Capital in February of 1999, right before the company invested in firms that sent jobs overseas and laid off thousands of workers. But on Monday, Romney’s senior adviser couldn’t say who was running the company in his absence. “You should check with Bain, but it wasn’t Mitt Romney,” Eric Fehrnstrom told Reuters’ Sam Youngman. Romney claims to have turned over day to day management of Bain to a management team after he left for the Olympics, though the company continued to list Romney as its CEO well into 2002.

What a genius…. he does not know who ran his company while he was taking a salary for doing the same? I am sure he has a dirty couch in his son’s unfinished basement where he lived.

Jay and his band of liberal followers have their “particular way of showing it” also.

Let’s call it for what it is. Low class, low character, and the Democrat way.

Can’t campaign on the merits of Obama’s record. Can’t use hollow words like Hope & Change anymore. Can’t brag about employment being under a whopping 8 percent. Can’t justify not balancing a budget in 3 years. Can’t justify spending more money than all of the past presidents collectively. Can’t justify why Obama won’t release any of his sealed personal records. Can’t explain why they oppose capitalism. Can’t explain why their empty suit leader’s popularity numbers are in the toilet.

Based on the above demerits, the only thing left for the liberal establishment to do is character assassination, foment action of class warfare, and low class misinformation.

When Obama unseals his personal records Romney should let you hypocrites look at his tax returns. When Obama stops his never ending pandering fund raisers Romney will will do the same.
When Obama explains his Chicago house buying deal with an indicted fund raiser Romney will explain his off shore investing.
When Obama stops eating dogs Romney will stop putting his dog on the family car roof.

You people are pathetic in your character and your methods of operating. You go out and get an unknown liberal radical elected for president. He has no job skills in the world of reality. He was elected to the Senate by means of Chicago corruption. He chooses a VP because the fool said that Obama was clean and well spoken. He gets to the Senate and votes “present” 85 percent of the time. His past associates are radicals, racists, convicted felons, academia elitists, and union thugs. His last presidential campaign was handled by the convicted ACORN. And his administration is filled with left wing kooks in energy, justice, labor, and treasury.

With that said, no wonder his experience and leadership is the result of a country in such bad shape. He has nothing. You have nothing.

His only skills, one might say, is that he is “present” in his every day on the job. Your skills, one might say, is that low class attacks and low character accusations are your only measure.

Shameful and disgusting.

Obama is over

July 17th, 2012
11:21 am

Obama informed us over the weekend that there is no such thing as a self made man in America. The Government was responsible for the success of all small businesses. Apparantly the Axelrod talking point was that the financial services industry needs more regulation as reflected in Jay’s weekend column. The “Volker rule” which is the portion of the Dodd-Frank act added by Obama to regulate propriertary trading goes into effect on July 21st. The only problem is that this piece of legislation, written when the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate, has not filled in the blanks on how the rule is supposed to work. Obama has had two years to make sure that the details were in place, yet next week, evil empires like Coca-Cola will have no idea what taxes, rules ,and regulations will apply to their hedges of purchases of sugar and vanilla beans. In the meantime, last week the parents of a 15 year old African American boy turned him into the police after seeing his picture on WSB. He had kidnapped a guy in Grant Park at gunpoint and was photographed at an ATM forcing the victim to remove money. I guess Obama would tell that young man that his best chance of fulfilling dreams in the future lies in Government assistance because no one in America can achieve success without it. In this case government assistance must mean prison. Teenage African American unemployment is currently at 39.3%. Thanks Obama, you are doing a fine job.

“What’s perhaps more startling—and ironic, given the Obama campaign’s frequent bashing of Mitt Romney’s private equity record—is that the Obama Administration is keen on bringing back a similar approach that led to disasters like L Capital. It’s launching two new funds of $1 billion each that put money into early-stage companies, in concert with private funds. Except this time the government gets no potential upside.”

Somewhere along the way, a relative, friend, or an experienced criminal has guided you thru the miriads of Gov’t programs that you could scam. The Gov’t built roads and bridges that the PO uses to deliver your checks and freebies. Joan Walsh at Salon:

So what would be more damaging than what Romney’s 2010 and 2011 returns told us? We already know that he’s insanely wealthy, that he’s got his money in offshore tax havens like the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, and that he paid an obscenely low 13.9 percent tax rate because he made his money from investment, not work, a result of the way our tax system privileges the investor class over even rich people who have to labor for a living. If that’s the kind of thing that outrages you, you’ve got enough to be outraged about.

But what if Romney had years where he paid no taxes at all? The New Yorker’s John Cassidy surveys the list of possible reasons for Romney to hide his returns and seems to think that’s the most plausible explanation. Cassidy admits he’s in the realm of “speculation” – but that’s where Romney has left the electorate with his refusal to release more than two years of filings.

Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for president – because I still believe in that idea. You think that might be an example of what you are calling us? You really don’t pay much attention to what you say do you. That is the reason you must like Romney. He is a man like you app to contradict himself. He does it so much his handlers have taken him off the freestyle and given him a strict diet of talking points. Every once in a while his true self comes out and points out the help at a rich man’s coattail party and explains to them what they are and how he understands them. Then about 20 handlers surround him like a rich grandfather at a Thanksgiving dinner who is showing an aging mind, knowing a good show will get them their inheritance. The “help” is a bit like the characters in that movie by the same name, knowing they are being used by some clueless idiot, that has about as much right to speak for them as a Jewish Rabi speaking for Oral Roberts, but must endure it. In Romney’s world he is use to people speaking for other people, it is the only way he has survived that far. It is when he speaks for himself or worse for some poor passerby that the wheels come off.

And Obama’s church doesn’t oblige him to do the same. I’ve never seen one Christian church of any denomination that doesn’t believe that its flock should tithe 10%. And the church can’t force you to do the tithe. Ultimately it comes down to the character of the man as to whether or not they want to follow church teaching and do the 10% tithe. And that difference in character between O and Romney is plainly obvious- as is their historical difference in charitable giving. My wife’s family left the LDS some years ago, and yes, they actually do make such demands on their membership. From what they’ve told me, that normally only happens with very successful LDS members or members who are very circumspect in the display of their wealth. In the first case, the church wants to make sure how big the pie is that it’s getting a slice of, and in the second case, they want to be sure members aren’t holding out on the church.

With most members, though, the church can generally estimate their income and tithe due, and so long as you’re in the ballpark, they don’t get huffy.

they both suck,

Apology accepted. Only an idiot realizes that Romney hasn’t had or won’t have his share of big money fundraisers. When I saw Jay use the 2-5-10 k plate fund raising that Romney was doing at this particular event I just decided to run with it and razz some folks like cheesy grits on the hypocrisy of fund raising. They all got their share of big money donors. What I can’t believe is that folks like cheesy grits and the other guy don’t think that everyone already knows that Romney has already had big fundraisers himself. Sheesh.

No. Not at all. Just like a fair shake for everyone. Instead of the rich like Romney getting all the breaks and handouts.

Is it fair Romney pays 13 percent in taxes but a blue collar guy pays double that ?

Explain how that is fair ?

I know the jobs will “trickle” down. Well ive been hearing that trickle down crap my whole life. Its BS. The rich just get richer and the money stays at the top.

All we want is for everyone to have a fair chance. And for people to EARN where they get in life. Instead of it being handed to them ala Romney and Bush.

Obama may be naive about economics but he has a good idea of how to use the government to further his socialist “redistribution of the wealth”. A very destructive philosophy that takes away one’s incentive to work to get ahead. Obama is not a big fan of “the American dream”.

So if 47% of all Americans pay no federal income tax outside of Fica then please explain empirically how the average blue collar guy is paying “double” the rate that Romney pays. This should be real interesting.

That number is incorrect so its pointless to argue with you. Your a clown.

The truth is that 86% of Americans pay taxes. In one recession strapped year (2009), less than half of single filer taxpayers paid federal income taxes.

Grits – Why do the “rich” pay such a high % of all the taxes in this country if they aren’t taxed at a higher rate than the “average” person? Personally, I am for a flat tax and eliminating all of the deductions and tax shelters. We can’t eliminate the mortgage deduction right now for obvious reasons but when (if) real estate recovers it should be phased out. Would you favor a flat tax of the same % for all over the current system? That way the “rich” would still pay a higher overall % of the ta burden and the loopholes created by politicians would be eliminated.

“So if 47% of all Americans pay no federal income tax”- cheesy grits

cheesy,

That’s not what I said. If you are going to quote me you should at least be honest and quote me honestly. Here is what I said.

“So if 47% of all Americans pay no federal income tax outside of Fica then please explain empirically how the average blue collar guy is paying “double” the rate that Romney pays.”

Now I realize that cheesy truncated the part that said “outside of FICA’ but Fica is only 6 1/2 or 7 % so that is why I said 47% no longer pay federal taxes outside of that 6 or 7% they pay in FICA taxes.

So I’m still waiting for cheesy to empirically explain how it is that the average blue collar guy pays ” twice” the rate of Romney. Not the same rate as Romney, not a little bit more, but “twice” the rate that Romney pays as cheesy stated.

Maybe the Republicans could get one of those Charles Taylor books on governing people you don’t like since we have a pass from civility. We see no business plan for these GOP if they happen to get elected, just abusing anybody that is not like them, this could easily be the plan they so sorely are missing. Charles Taylor or General Djordje Djukic could instruct these fine people of common cause in how to get rid of undesirables. America what a country where hate can grow and be unimpeded. We just about got there with Bush, we lied to the UN, trashed the French and pulled people off the streets of Greece to torture them and ignored arrest warrants. Obama is too dull for these people, he is like Indiana Jones being bored with the swordsman pulls out his gun very unceremoniously and shoots the guy dead. No dishonesty from me at all, Doom. Just a statement of FACT that you are trying to assert a post hoc ergo propter hoc logical fallacy as evidentiary fact. Y’know, as much as you hang around with Bruno, I’d have thought you’d have figured out some of these logical fallacies by now.

Illegal alien – good luck with becoming a legal citizen. We would welcome you paying income taxes like the rest of us. I will try to explain how a flat tax would work for you. With a flat tax every income producer pays the same percent of taxes – say 10%. There are no tax shelters, no deductions and no loopholes (created by politicians). If you earn $50,000 you will pay $5,000 in taxes. If you earn $5,000,000 you will pay $ 5,000,000. No exemptions, no deductions, no loopholes. The average person would not have to hire someone to prepare their taxes. Politicians would no longer be able to use the tax system to punish those that oppose them or reward those that support them. Thousands of lobbyists would flee D.C. like rats running from a flood. That would be a good thing.

Some conservatives will vote republican and no true conservative will vote for the current democrat philosophy of “redistribution of the wealth”. However, a true conservative is not the same thing as a republican. I am a fiscal conservative but not a member of the republican party that has been looking and spending tax money like democrats here the last few years. He is another Bush, nothing is ever his fault, which is is making loud and clear as people are escaping burning buildings or drowning in the streets of N.O. I used to be a waiter. Back then, the average tip consisted of 15%. Today, it’s around 20%. At a gala that runs from $2,500 a plate, those folks should have paid a tip of between $450 to $500. The folks that paid the $50,000 should have paid between $7,500 and $10,000 a plate.

I wonder how much of a tip Mitt left for those hard working waitresses and waiters.
