Romney endorsed by The Man Who Isn’t There

0202RomneyTrump06_t653

What does it tell you about all involved that Mitt Romney is willing to be photographed with and publicly embrace the birther nutball egomanic Donald Trump, but wants no photographic evidence of any relationship with former Vice President Dick Cheney?

From the Washington Post:

WILSON, Wyo. — Here was one of the biggest endorsements of Mitt Romney’s political career, an embrace from a man who has served five presidents and who said he has strong feelings about what the country needs in a commander in chief.

“Looking back and reflecting on that, I think there’s only one man to be president of the United States who meets those requirements, and that’s Governor Mitt Romney,” Richard B. Cheney said here Thursday.

But on the evening when the divisive former vice president opened his home at the foot of Wyoming’s majestic Teton Range to host a $4 million fundraiser for the presumptive Republican nominee, Romney’s campaign labored to avoid any photos or videos of the two men together….

Cheney introduced Romney and said he was confident the former Massachusetts governor would lead the nation through an unanticipated crisis such as the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“I’m convinced that in addition to all of these other qualifications that you all know about, when I think about the kind of individual I want in the Oval Office in that moment of crisis, who has to make those key decisions, some of them life-and-death decisions, decisions as the commander in chief, who has the responsibility for sending our young men and women in harm’s way – that man’s Mitt Romney,” Cheney said.

Romney, in his 20-minute speech, complemented Cheney. “That’s quite a man, quite a leader,” he said.

But he made no mention of President George W. Bush.

http://www.lawfirms.com/resources/securities/securities-fraud/penalties-securities-fraud.htm

Penalties of Securities Fraud (the first bullet tells it all)

Securities fraud, also known as investor or stock fraud, covers a range of activities that violate federal and state laws pertaining to buying, selling and trading securities. The most common forms of securities fraud include:

• Misrepresentation (presenting misleading or false information to investors about a company, or its securities)

• Accounting fraud (manipulating or falsifying books or records to misrepresent a public companies assets and liabilities)

• Insider trading (buying, selling or trading securities based on information that is not readily available to the general public)

Securities fraud is governed by both federal and state laws, and legal actions can be brought about by private investors or by a government agency, such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Violations of federal securities laws are treated as serious offenses that can carry both civil and criminal penalties. Criminal investigations can lead to felony convictions that carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment. In addition, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) may impose civil fines against corporations or individuals convicted of securities fraud.

Romney may be working with different numbers in the future that won’t be dollars:

It’s painfully obvious that it is necessary for the incident to have taken place in Jr. High, then the narrative is, “well, that’s just boys being boys.”

But an 18 year old?

That suggests an adult that should have known better and take adult responsibilities and consequences for his actions.

East Lake, oh no, if he lied or was an accessory to lying on SEC filings he broke the law. CJ

Jay: “I found the WashPo Factchecker convincing on this topic…”

I did not find the WaPo factchecker convincing at all.

Romney participated in various board meetings through 2002. Romney was on Bain’s payroll through that time period. Romney signed SEC documents indicating his positions as Chairman/CEO/President of Bain. When seeking to establish his residency in Massachusetts, Romney testified that his time at the Olympics was a “leave of absence” from Bain.

Inexplicably, the WaPo decides that they believe contradictory information on Romney’s financial disclosure forms (required for governor/presidential campaigns)–information that would absolve him of much of the controversy surrounding Bain. WaPo chooses not to believe the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

If the WaPo wants to give Romney the benefit of the doubt, then they’re entitled to their opinion. But that opinion should not fall under the category of “fact checking.”
