Condi Rice for Mitt’s veep? You mean THIS Condi Rice?

Condi Rice for vice president?

Personally, I think it’s a great idea, but only if Joe Biden decides that he doesn’t want a second term.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

But wait … Drudge is reporting that she’s now a frontrunner for the Republican veep pick?

Hmmm. That would be interesting. She is obviously qualified for the position, and her selection would shake up the campaign in ways that no other potential candidate could match.

On the other hand:

She has described President Bush’s decision to withdraw from the Kyoto Treaty on climate change as a “self-inflicted wound,” and while she doesn’t support implementing Kyoto in its present form, she believes the United States must lead international action on that problem.

Rice has also discussed what she calls her “mildly pro-choice” views, defends Roe v. Wade and “can’t imagine why one would take these decisions out of the hands of the family.” She believes it “appropriate” to consider race in college admissions, says affirmative action is needed “if it does not lead to quotas” and acknowledges that she herself benefited from the program. As secretary of state, she appointed that department’s first chief diversity officer.

She supports civil unions for gay Americans and warns against mixing religion and politics, “because that is really when man is trying to use God for his own purposes.” She has also made clear her distaste for the Dick Cheney school of foreign policy, from which Romney has drawn most of his foreign policy advisers. In fact, she publicly defended Obama against charges by Cheney that he has weakened the country, nothing that “Nothing in this president’s methods suggests this president is other than a defender of America’s interests.”

Rice is on the record as recognizing that both tax increases and spending cuts will be needed to balance the budget, with an emphasis on spending cuts. However, she opposes spending cuts on foreign aid, which Romney has proposed, and backs “strong investment in renewable energy like wind and solar” to begin to wean the country off oil.

She believes most illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in this country, advocating “comprehensive immigration reform”. The United States, she said in 2008, “is going to have to have enlightened immigration policies if we’re going to stay this strong, competitive, open magnet for the best and brightest from around the world that we’ve been.”

And on Israel, the conservative Jewish Telegraphic Agency warns that ‘overall she’s a big advocate of a two-state solution who is closer to the Obama team on this issue than she is to where the GOP candidates and GOP base have been during this campaign season.”

Now, if the modern Republican Party is nonetheless willing to have a candidate with such beliefs on its national ticket — and if it’s willing to “let Condi be Condi,” rather than force her to do a full Romney and recant these and other positions — then I think that her nomination would be great for both the party and the nation.

Somehow, I’m a little doubtful that’s going to happen.

I think they are using the Palin Ploy again, but this time with more thought (but not enough) than with Ste, Sarah of the Tundra. As Jay points out, her views seem a little too moderate and reasoned…certainly not what the GOP wants….and her choice would call to mind her association with President Bush. With Mitt’s reaction to the Cheney fund raiser, I don’t think he wants that onus…jus’ supposin’…

In the slight chance the Romney wins, we will have two pro choice Republicans in the WH.

We would have Romney who changed his stance to appease the social conservatives (but everyone knows what he is) and Condi.

Obama Lies !

Headline (CNN …… Repeat CNN !!! ): ” Why is 1999 so important in 2012?”

“To be clear, all four of the sources voiced professional loyalty and personal respect for Romney. And all four have a vested interest in defending the work of Bain. But they were consistent in describing Romney’s departure as abrupt and in saying they could not recall him around the office in the months that followed.

Two highly reputable arbiters of political debate — The Washington Post’s fact-checking arm and FactCheck.org — also on Thursday stood by their earlier findings that Romney stepped away from any active role at Bain when he accepted the Olympics post. And Fortune reported that it obtained private Bain documents that support the Romney account.

But the Obama campaign and its liberal allies continue to hang their claim on the SEC filings.”

Just my two cents for what it’s worth, and I’m no GOP and won’t vote for that party no matter what, but I think a lot of those “pooh-poohing” are being a bit too naive. Nobody would have thought that the moderate Mormon stood the chance of a prayer in hell either, yet here we have the most radical right of the party doing the whoopdedoo dance.

Whether or not the liberal and left want to admit it, the GOP has already begun to signal a move back toward the center for the election and for the future of the party. Even they know that what worked in the 1980s and the first decades of the 2000s is no longer viable.

Ms Rice makes perfectly good sense as the choice and, truth be told, an awful lot of right and moderate non aligned centrists would be drawn toward Romney on that.

And let’s face it, she’d mop the floor with Biden in a VP debate.

Personally, I hope he does choose her, not for me, but for my country. It’s a step back from the brink, and that’s what we need more than anything else right now–left and right.

This country is still too divided on this issue. And Condi is way to liberal as others have pointed out. Seems like no matter how educated or experienced a person is…. being liberal and gay in this country is a death knell…..

So what you would have is one part of the ticket contradicting the other. I dont see that happening.

See how well that worked out with Palin? although letting Condi be Condi would actually be a huge improvement in the whole process.

Palin had too many knowledge gaps, and it showed when she was “being Palin”. Condi on the other hand. . . would likely sweep the floor with anyone on most topics.

You don’t get it. It’s not skin color, it’s the perception that Obama ‘gets’ their problems and concerns. The GOP as a whole is so clueless that they *think* it’s about skin color, and if you decide that’s what the problem is, it serves as an excuse to not even TRY to win those votes or figure out what problems those voters have.

Your reply to me is just another example of how absolutely tone-deaf most GOP supporters *are* on how to score more minority votes. Romney’s lawyer at the Massachusetts hearing said that Romney’s work in the private sector continued “unabated” while he ran the Olympics: “He succeeded in that three-year period in restoring confidence in the Olympic Games, closing that disastrous deficit and staging one of the most successful Olympic Games ever to occur on U.S. soil. Now while all that was going on, very much in the public eye, what happened to his private and public ties to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? And the answer is they continued unabated just as they had.”

Instead of leaving in 1999, Romney suggested in his testimony that he only left Bain after the Olympics in 2002: “I left on the basis of a leave of absence indicating that I, by virtue of that title, would return at the end of the Olympics to my employment at Bain Capital, but subsequently decided not to do so and entered into a departure agreement with my former partners. UPDATE: 9:15 p.m. — The Romney campaign responded by focusing on Romney’s involvement with Bain itself, and argued that the state Ballot Law Commission validated the argument that Romney was not involved in day-to-day Bain matters.

“After extensive hearings the Ballot Law Commission came to the same conclusion as numerous independent fact checkers in finding that Mitt Romney ended his active employment with Bain Capital in 1999,” said Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. “Every public judgment, including a unanimous one from the Ballot Law Commission, has confirmed this fact.”

Henneberg called the controversy over Romney’s employment at Bain “just another distraction from a desperate campaign that is willing to say anything to divert attention from President Obama’s failed record in office.”

However, the purpose of the Ballot Law Commission inquiry was to determine Romney’s residency, not whether he had done any part-time work on behalf of Bain.

I sort of like your sort of endorsement of Condi Rice for a running mate for Mitt. It is a nice fit, the head of the ticket having sterling qualifications and the experience in foreign affairs that Condi brings to the republican team.
However, I see a midwest choice on the horizon, he has been leading the Chicago fight against crime as mayor[Emanuel]. Illinois is the heartland of America and our greatest statesman came from Spingfield. Now, I know, the Mayor of Chicago is a friend of the current President, but he may see the new frontier that Mitt offers for America. The Obama campaign will run a continuous ad loop showing Condi testifying before congress about the ignored August memo, “bin Laden determined to strike in US”. And as one of the chief architects of the Iraq war, she will remind everyone that what she and GWB started, Obama finished. Way too much baggage for Mitt. That is unless he is shamelessly pandering to the Black/female vote.

I think you may have missed the point on court jester fool. That is not now, nor has it ever been, a dishonorable nor negative position. The court jester was, and often still is, the most informed and in the know of the regime. My objection to him is the second part of what I said, with little real substance.

Headline: “Republicans accuse HHS of gutting welfare reform with quiet policy change”

“Republicans are accusing the Obama administration of unilaterally gutting welfare reform after the Department of Health and Human Services quietly notified states that they may seek a waiver for the program’s strict work requirements.

HHS made the announcement in a policy memo Thursday, news that slipped well below the radar amid a raucous day on the presidential campaign trail. But a few prominent GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill picked up on the change, and accused the administration of overhauling one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades.

“President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract” Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, D-Ohio, said in a statement. He also called the move a “blatant violation of the law.”

Mitt Romney on Friday spoke up on the change, saying: “President Obama now wants to strip the established work requirements from welfare.” He said “the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.”

Obama gambled that the public didn’t care about his birth certificate and won (despite the fact that it had been validated and verified by Hawaii’s Republican governor months before the election. Romney is clearly gambling that the tax thing is going to lose steam as well.

Romney’s sworn testimony was given as part of a hearing to determine whether he had sufficient residency status in Massachusetts to run for governor.

Romney testified that he “remained on the board of the Staples Corporation and Marriott International, the LifeLike Corporation” at the time.

Yet in the Aug. 12, 2011, federal disclosure form filed as part of his presidential bid, he said, “Mr. Romney retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. Why would Romney take the chance on running the female VP experiment with so much in the balance?

There will come a time it appropriate, but this is not that time.

When the time comes, Ms Rice would be a good candidate.

If Romney has two grey cells to rub together, he will pick Rubio or Jindal.

But not to fear, the results will be a landslide putting Romney in office regardless of who he picks as #2.

It is an irrefutable fact that it is the neocons who are utterly obsessed with fear and being afraid.

They live in constant fear.

Fear of Muslims.

Fear of Mexicans.

Fear of homosexuals.

And teeth-rattling fer of liberals, independents, moderates, progressives, greens and all other non-Republicans.

Fear of pretty much everybody and everything that is remotely different from them.

Fear drives their groupthink.

So how do they deal with this generalized anxiety? (LOL) They contend it is everyone else who lives in fear.

Consider for a moment just how terrifying it must be to live life as a true believer on the right. Reality is scary enough, but the alternative reality inhabited by people who watch Glenn Beck, listen to Rush Limbaugh, or think Michele Bachmann isn’t a joke must be nothing less than horrifying.

AlterNetResearch suggests that conservatives are, on average, more susceptible to fear than those who identify themselves as liberals. Looking at MRIs of a large sample of young adults last year, researchers at University College London discovered that “greater conservatism was associated with increased volume of the right amygdala” ($$). The amygdala is an ancient brain structure that’s activated during states of fear and anxiety. (The researchers also found that “greater liberalism was associated with increased gray matter volume in the anterior cingulate cortex” – a region in the brain that is believed to help people manage complexity.)

That has implications for our political world. In a recent interview, Chris Mooney, author of “The Republican Brain,”explained, “The amygdala plays the same role in every species that has an amygdala. It basically takes over to save your life. It does other things too, but in a situation of threat, you cease to process information rationally and you’re moving automatically to protect yourself.”

The finding also fits with other data. Mooney discusses studies conducted at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in which self-identified liberals and conservatives were shown images – apolitical images – that were intended to elicit different emotions. Mooney explains that “there were images that caused fear and disgust — a spider crawling on a person’s face, maggots in an open wound — but also images that made you feel happy: a smiling child, a bunny rabbit.” The researchers noted two differences between the groups. The researchers studied their subjects’ reactions by tracking their eye movements and monitoring their “skin conductivity” – a measure of one’s autonomic nervous system’s reaction to stimuli.

Conservatives showed much stronger skin responses to negative images, compared with the positive ones. Liberals showed the opposite. And when the scientists turned to studying eye gaze or “attentional” patterns, they found that conservatives looked much more quickly at negative or threatening images, and [then] spent more time fixating on them.

Mooney concludes that this “new research suggests [that] conservatism is largely a defensive ideology — and therefore, much more appealing to people who go through life sensitive and highly attuned to aversive or threatening aspects of their environments.”

Romney To Sit For Network Interviews Today

Source: Buzzfeed

The source said Romney will sit down with ABC, NBC, and CBS, and will air on the nightly news broadcasts.

The interviews come on the heels of a grueling week of campaign press for him — dominated by a Boston Globe story yesterday that re-awakened concerns over Romney’s record at Bain Capital.

M. ROMNEY: “I have no idea how poor people become poor. I assume they must have spent all their starting capital.”

Beyond determining whether these statements are accurate–or whether Bain misled the SEC or Romney has been misleading the public–the reason this issue is important is that Romney wants to disavow responsibility for anything Bain or Bain companies did after early 1999.

And one of the things that Bain did after early 1999, as Dan Primack of Fortune points out, is invest in a company called Stericycle whose services included the disposal of aborted fetuses.

For obvious reasons, an investment in a company that performed this service might hurt Romney’s standing with the right-to-life voters in the Republican party, even though Romney was pro-choice at the time the investment was made.

And Romney also wants to disavow responsibility for many layoffs that Bain engineered after 1999, an issue he has had to deal with since running for Governor.

There’s accuracy and then there’s honesty. Nothing that a proper choice of words cannot disguise so long as no one calls him out.

I am highly interested in knowing that they did not acquire it through shady/illegal means. And even more interested in ending the rigged game that sends middle class money UP the ladder to them.

Romney’s seeming paranoia and secrecy over this money is unseemly.

And plays right into the hands of the issue that probably is the one that will sink him more than any other. His lack of trustworthiness.

Hell, the man can’t even say the same things about the same issues from one year to the next. He is the most egregious flip-flopping politician in our lifetimes. John Kerry was not even in his league!

Note that the Romney campaign does not deny that Romney was “chairman, CEO, and president” of Bain from 1999-2002.

What the Romney campaign says instead is that Romney “left” Bain in 1999 and had “no input on investments or management of companies after that point.”

So, read to the legal letter, both of those statements may technically be true (or at least defensible).

Romney did leave Bain in 1999, at least for a leave of absence (he went to run the Olympics).

And it is possible that, once he left, he no longer had direct input into investment or management decisions.

However …

So the idea is that it just took Bain 3 years to change the letterhead? and the SEC filings? I don’t have a problem believing he had much less involvement during these years but the idea that he was completely out of the loop and unaware of any of it’s activities when he was still 100% owner is ludicrous. I’m not talking about criminal activity but this all started when Mitt tried to distance himself from the outsourcing. I just don’t believe he had NOTHING to do with HIS company. It’s a ruse just like a blind trust. You know, a blind trust like Mitt’s that just happened to invest millions in Mitt’s son’s company. Coincidence? Hogwash.

Bain Press Release Claims CEO Romney Is On ‘Part-Time Leave’ To Run Olympics

“Bain Capital CEO W. Mitt Romney” is “currently on a part-time leave of absence to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee for the 2002 Games,” the release, uncovered by Daily Kos’ Jed Lewison, states. The document announces the departure of two Bain managing directors.

Thulsa, et al, do you guys even bother to TRY to determine what line of BS you’re swallowing?

The change would give states more flexibility in administering the program. Two states — Utah and Nevada, both with conservative Republican governors — have already applied for the waivers, and in fact requests from those two governors drove the change. The law has always required job training or work, and that has not changed. This change merely allows states to use a greater variety of training programs if they believe — and can document — that it gets people back to work sooner.

As the feds explain:

“Today, however, Federal rules dictate mind-numbing details about how to run a welfare-to-work program. Most States and experts agree that these aren’t helpful. Here’s one example: under current TANF rules, many states report that their caseworkers are spending more time complying with federal documentation requirements than helping parents find jobs. We need state workers spending less time filling out data reports and more time helping parents find employment.

The new policy we announced will allow states to test new, more effective ways to help parents successfully prepare for, find, and retain employment. States can apply for waivers of federal requirements that get in their way. These waiver applications will be available for public review.

This new flexibility will strengthen welfare reform rules and the effectiveness of state efforts to connect families with work. Waivers that weaken or undercut welfare reform will not be approved. Waivers that seek to avoid time limits or other federal restrictions on when assistance may be provided will not be approved.”

Now, I know that doesn’t feed into the narrative that you so dearly wish to believe. That’s not my problem.

TWO TEA PARTY LAWS THAT WOULD PROVIDE JOBS FOR AMERICANS

E-Verify ‘The Legal Workforce Act’ (H.R. 2885) although just voluntary at this time, is an electronic program operated by the Social Security Administration and Customs and Immigration Enforcement. —The last entity I would listen too is the Liberal Press, who have transferred their loyalty to hard core radical people like socialist George Soros? The mainstream media Editorial reeks of deceit and rhetoric, when it comes to illegal immigration. The progressives in the news media are especially dangerous. The liberals will lie and cheat, no matter the consequences to America. So it is with E-Verify, which they have demonized because, it actually flags illegal immigrants in the workplace and opens up jobs for U.S. citizens and residents. The liberals have been very predominant in using the influence of the press, to erect a barrier against Mandatory E-Verify, except they didn’t reckon on the growing masses of the TEA PARTY. Unlike the two main political parties the TEA PARTY will enforce all laws and statutes pertaining to illegal immigration, whereas the Dem’s and GOP tend to intentionally overlook such state ordinances as Sanctuary Cities and states like California?

I THINK DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE TEA PARTY WILL HAVE NO REAL INFLUENCE IN THE OUTCOME OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION? BOTH PARTIES WILL BE PROVED WRONG?

REMEMBER THE TEA PARTY WILL ENFORCE ‘THE PEOPLE’S’ LAWS. THERE WILL BE NO PLEADINGS FOR ANY CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIEN, NO OBAMA BACKDOOR AMNESTIES, NO DREAM ACTS, NO SANCTUARY CITIES, NO CHAIN MIGRATION. E-VERIFICATION WOULD ALSO BE FULLY ENFORCED WITH STRINGENT PUNISHMENT, FOR THOSE WHO DON’T COMPLY? POTENTIAL PRESIDENT MITT ROMNEY BETTER STAY AWARE OF THE ‘TEA PARTY’ EMPOWERMENT, AS IF HE THINKS OF PLAYING ALONG IN THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUE, HE WILL BE RECOGNISED AS A FLIP-FLOPPER.

Even the House Speaker John Boehner has refused to bring up compulsory E-Verify for a House vote. Obviously he and his entrenched colleagues will not allow it anywhere near the Congress, as he and his fellow conspirators are subject to the corporate donations, to keep the old school corrupting our system of government. E-Verify is just one bill that must be passed to save the jobs of millions of low income Americans mainly.

The Independents, and uncountable numbers of delusional Democrats, Republicans are recognizing that the Lib-Democrats are out to win the grand price in November, but now millions of TEA PARTY people will not fall into their political trap. This is the same with photo ID to vote, who have ruthless personages as U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Kings court caterwauling ‘voter Suppression’, when all the TEA PARTY requests is a fair and equitable election. Surf the internet under ‘Voter Fraud’ and you will discover the hundreds of cases of this diabolical use of our most trusted right of American citizens, being compromised by NON CITIZENS, felons and illegal aliens. This began with inception of canvassing provided by ACORN organization, which signed up just about anybody and were eventually caught and 11 states are resolving this criminal issue.

Another law that remains quietly concealed from the public is the Rep. Steve Kings THE BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ACT (H.R.140). An astronomical amount of money is being extracted from every taxpaying American that supports the annual arrival of an estimated 400.000 smuggled babies into the United States. They are concealed in their Mother’s womb and once here becomes the taxpayers charge. These females although illegal that once they set foot on American soil, their offspring receive a free delivery, free heath care and a free education, thanks to unfunded mandates handed down by the courts. The only salvation from this misjudged law is to amend the 14th amendment, which an only child with one citizen parent qualifies for instant citizenship. Illegal alien parents are well aware that if they smuggle the unborn child through an international airport terminal or past the U.S. Border Patrol, they are free and clear as the misguided law stands today. In addition the Secure Communities (287G) should stay in place, not rescinded by the Liberal amassing of voices in the department of Justice.

With only four months to go before D-Day us the voter only has that one slender chance of changing the direction of our country. With the democrats cocooned with the Liberals, the only promise is uncontrolled ‘Tax and Spend’ so elevating the 16 Trillion dollar deficit we owe the rest of the worlds investors. Then under the Republicans, a lesser of the evils, but even so they must be controlled by the TEA PARTY LEADERSHIP.

Anybody who contradicts the writings in the U.S. Constitution, who is adverse to a real border fence, who is unconcerned about the 20 million plus illegal aliens already here or the harbinger of a further invasion from Central and South America needs to be relieved of their seats in Washington, not excluding the majority of legislators in Congress, state governors as Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, Jerry Brown of California, and Mayors as Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles—all must be replaced by TEA PARTY MEMBERS. All the pro-illegal immigrant law makers are destroying this sovereign country, as they are well aware that illegal aliens vote. That is why Americans, Hispanic, Latin, Black, White Asian and others should join one of the thousands of local chapters of the TEA PARTY. Incidentally there are hundreds of thousands of TEA PARTY women members, with some great leaders amongst them. They should be ready to oversee the elections, including the rampant fraud in the absentee ballot. Around the country the election rolls are crowded with the names of the deceased, others who have moved to a different state. There are many ways our most sacred of rights have been compromised and only the citizen voter can change it.

Remember under Obama Imperial court we will be paying not only for any person who illegally ventures here, but for millions of Americans who have found it easy, to just live of the taxpayer. Beneath our feet is abundance of wealth in oil, natural gas and coal for energy that President Obama denies us. Those trillions of dollars in excess gallons of crude oil could clearly go to replenish state treasuries and the remainder could be sold to our friends in other countries. Under Obama and decades of environmental zealots, we have not been cut off from our own resources, relying on governments abroad that hate us. Even the abundance of oil from Canada is better than dealing with foreign potentates.

Attention: Investigation of President Obama’s background history is due to be released by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on July 17, 2012 and could stun everybody. The upcoming press conference is set to be held at 2:30 p.m. local time at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona, with World Net Daily again providing live streaming video coverage.

Allow me to be politically incorrect for a moment? Unless Romney is a closet Democrat, Romney and/or his advisors likely “leaked” consideration of the former Secretary of State because they would like to be seen as considering women and people of color.

Bush might have been the “compassionate conservative” he insisted he was had his VP and the mega-bankers not been pulling or at least pulling at his strings for eight years.

Both Condi and/or Colin are more likely to be in a second Obama administration than ever again in another GOP administration. I don’t expect Herman Cain or Jessie Jackson Jr. will ever be in either.

The next GOP VP will be a lot more likely be someone with great influence in either the evangelical and/or Hispanic sector of the electorate; and, if not, expect the actual moneyed leadership of the GOP to insist Romeny put one of their moneychangers in that spot to watch their interests.
