Condi Rice for Mitt’s veep? You mean THIS Condi Rice?

Condi Rice for vice president?

Personally, I think it’s a great idea, but only if Joe Biden decides that he doesn’t want a second term.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

But wait … Drudge is reporting that she’s now a frontrunner for the Republican veep pick?

Hmmm. That would be interesting. She is obviously qualified for the position, and her selection would shake up the campaign in ways that no other potential candidate could match.

On the other hand:

She has described President Bush’s decision to withdraw from the Kyoto Treaty on climate change as a “self-inflicted wound,” and while she doesn’t support implementing Kyoto in its present form, she believes the United States must lead international action on that problem.

Rice has also discussed what she calls her “mildly pro-choice” views, defends Roe v. Wade and “can’t imagine why one would take these decisions out of the hands of the family.” She believes it “appropriate” to consider race in college admissions, says affirmative action is needed “if it does not lead to quotas” and acknowledges that she herself benefited from the program. As secretary of state, she appointed that department’s first chief diversity officer.

She supports civil unions for gay Americans and warns against mixing religion and politics, “because that is really when man is trying to use God for his own purposes.” She has also made clear her distaste for the Dick Cheney school of foreign policy, from which Romney has drawn most of his foreign policy advisers. In fact, she publicly defended Obama against charges by Cheney that he has weakened the country, nothing that “Nothing in this president’s methods suggests this president is other than a defender of America’s interests.”

Rice is on the record as recognizing that both tax increases and spending cuts will be needed to balance the budget, with an emphasis on spending cuts. However, she opposes spending cuts on foreign aid, which Romney has proposed, and backs “strong investment in renewable energy like wind and solar” to begin to wean the country off oil.

She believes most illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in this country, advocating “comprehensive immigration reform”. The United States, she said in 2008, “is going to have to have enlightened immigration policies if we’re going to stay this strong, competitive, open magnet for the best and brightest from around the world that we’ve been.”

And on Israel, the conservative Jewish Telegraphic Agency warns that ‘overall she’s a big advocate of a two-state solution who is closer to the Obama team on this issue than she is to where the GOP candidates and GOP base have been during this campaign season.”

Now, if the modern Republican Party is nonetheless willing to have a candidate with such beliefs on its national ticket — and if it’s willing to “let Condi be Condi,” rather than force her to do a full Romney and recant these and other positions — then I think that her nomination would be great for both the party and the nation.

Somehow, I’m a little doubtful that’s going to happen.

Peadawg: From your link – “Pagliuca, a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2010, told CNN: “Mitt Romney left Bain Capital in February 1999 to run the Olympics and has had absolutely no involvement with the management or investment activities of the firm or with any of its portfolio companies since the day of his departure.”

Why did Romney testify that he did in fact participate in Board meetings with Staples and LifeLine while working on the Olympics?

They were Bain investments. Someone is lying.

Its sad really that the far left has hijacked the dem party. Some members were somewhat noble at one time…

Factually incorrect.

Another completely unsupportable, empirically empty opinion.

Otherwise we would see plenty of corroborating evidence, data, events and facts.

This claim is just empty posturing that no right winger here has ever even tried to bolster with the first piece of verifiable .

Though several have parroted it.

The Democratic Party has become more militaristic. More corporate. More plutocratic.

I don’t think the fact that they were Bain investments tells us anything about whether Romney was still working at Bain itself, Ira. Again, I accept Romney’s statement that he left Bain in 1999, and whether it was ‘99 or 2002, I don’t really think it changes a damn thing about the campaign.

There could very well be a lie there to cloud a situation, but if the SEC isn’t doing anything, it is BS to say “felon”.

One might be able to call it a character issue, but Obama and Romney have those.

How are we to properly assess Mitt’s ability to create jobs without first being given a complete history of his job creating days, including how long he was at the helm at Bain. In fact, I would like to know his involvement at GM as well so I can determine how he managed to save them. And was President Obama aware of Mitt’s efforts in Detroit. Beyond determining whether these statements are accurate–or whether Bain misled the SEC or Romney has been misleading the public–the reason this issue is important is that Romney wants to disavow responsibility for anything Bain or Bain companies did after early 1999.

And one of the things that Bain did after early 1999, as Dan Primack of Fortune points out, is invest in a company called Stericycle whose services included the disposal of aborted fetuses.

For obvious reasons, an investment in a company that performed this service might hurt Romney’s standing with the right-to-life voters in the Republican party, even though Romney was pro-choice at the time the investment was made.

And Romney also wants to disavow responsibility for many layoffs that Bain engineered after 1999, an issue he has had to deal with since running for Governor.

There’s accuracy and then there’s honesty. Nothing that a proper choice of words cannot disguise so long as no one calls him out.

I am highly interested in knowing that they did not acquire it through shady/illegal means. And even more interested in ending the rigged game that sends middle class money UP the ladder to them.

Romney’s seeming paranoia and secrecy over this money is unseemly.

And plays right into the hands of the issue that probably is the one that will sink him more than any other. His lack of trustworthiness.

Hell, the man can’t even say the same things about the same issues from one year to the next. He is the most egregious flip-flopping politician in our lifetimes. John Kerry was not even in his league!

Note that the Romney campaign does not deny that Romney was “chairman, CEO, and president” of Bain from 1999-2002.

What the Romney campaign says instead is that Romney “left” Bain in 1999 and had “no input on investments or management of companies after that point.”

So, read to the legal letter, both of those statements may technically be true (or at least defensible).

Romney did leave Bain in 1999, at least for a leave of absence (he went to run the Olympics).

And it is possible that, once he left, he no longer had direct input into investment or management decisions.

However …

Pick those words carefully now…

Bain Press Release Claims CEO Romney Is On ‘Part-Time Leave’ To Run Olympics

“Bain Capital CEO W. Mitt Romney” is “currently on a part-time leave of absence to head the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee for the 2002 Games,” the release, uncovered by Daily Kos’ Jed Lewison, states. The document announces the departure of two Bain managing directors.

In 1999, Romney himself had stated that he would “stay on as a part-timer with Bain providing input on investment and key personnel decisions.”

Still think he had no role at Bain? Seriously?

Doom — “Joe mama must think welfare recipients shouldn’t have to look for work. I guess Clinton had it all wrong huh Joe?”

Doom, my mind’s pretty open, but not so open than you can make crap up and shove it in there for me.

How about you man up and ASK me what I think instead of just guessing?

E. Cat — “too freakin funny…he didn’t really bite on this did he?”

Yeah, he really did. And he’s trying to have it both ways now; acting like it is and isn’t true, depending on which way is most supportive of his argument at the time.

He’s totally blown any credibility he might have otherwise had. IMO he might as well start over with a new handle. :D

Thulsa, it was the Bush recession that put all those people on food stamps. But you know that.

Thulsa, et al, do you guys even bother to TRY to determine what line of BS you’re swallowing?

The change would give states more flexibility in administering the program. Two states — Utah and Nevada, both with conservative Republican governors — have already applied for the waivers, and in fact requests from those two governors drove the change. The law has always required job training or work, and that has not changed. This change merely allows states to use a greater variety of training programs if they believe — and can document — that it gets people back to work sooner.

As the feds explain:

“Today, however, Federal rules dictate mind-numbing details about how to run a welfare-to-work program. Most States and experts agree that these aren’t helpful. Here’s one example: under current TANF rules, many states report that their caseworkers are spending more time complying with federal documentation requirements than helping parents find jobs. We need state workers spending less time filling out data reports and more time helping parents find employment.

The new policy we announced will allow states to test new, more effective ways to help parents successfully prepare for, find, and retain employment. States can apply for waivers of federal requirements that get in their way. These waiver applications will be available for public review.

This new flexibility will strengthen welfare reform rules and the effectiveness of state efforts to connect families with work. Waivers that weaken or undercut welfare reform will not be approved. Waivers that seek to avoid time limits or other federal restrictions on when assistance may be provided will not be approved.”

Now, I know that doesn’t feed into the narrative that you so dearly wish to believe. That’s not my problem.

Joel, that would certainly be an appropriate post IF and only IF Rice is ever nominated. I don’t think she will be, despite her credentials, precisely because of the reasons outlined above.

Now, should that prove incorrect, your polite taunting would be justified. I don’t think that’s going to be the case.

Do you?

TWO TEA PARTY LAWS THAT WOULD PROVIDE JOBS FOR AMERICANS

E-Verify ‘The Legal Workforce Act’ (H.R. 2885) although just voluntary at this time, is an electronic program operated by the Social Security Administration and Customs and Immigration Enforcement. —The last entity I would listen too is the Liberal Press, who have transferred their loyalty to hard core radical people like socialist George Soros? The mainstream media Editorial reeks of deceit and rhetoric, when it comes to illegal immigration. The progressives in the news media are especially dangerous. The liberals will lie and cheat, no matter the consequences to America. So it is with E-Verify, which they have demonized because, it actually flags illegal immigrants in the workplace and opens up jobs for U.S. citizens and residents. The liberals have been very predominant in using the influence of the press, to erect a barrier against Mandatory E-Verify, except they didn’t reckon on the growing masses of the TEA PARTY. Unlike the two main political parties the TEA PARTY will enforce all laws and statutes pertaining to illegal immigration, whereas the Dem’s and GOP tend to intentionally overlook such state ordinances as Sanctuary Cities and states like California?

I THINK DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE TEA PARTY WILL HAVE NO REAL INFLUENCE IN THE OUTCOME OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION? BOTH PARTIES WILL BE PROVED WRONG?

REMEMBER THE TEA PARTY WILL ENFORCE ‘THE PEOPLE’S’ LAWS. THERE WILL BE NO PLEADINGS FOR ANY CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIEN, NO OBAMA BACKDOOR AMNESTIES, NO DREAM ACTS, NO SANCTUARY CITIES, NO CHAIN MIGRATION. E-VERIFICATION WOULD ALSO BE FULLY ENFORCED WITH STRINGENT PUNISHMENT, FOR THOSE WHO DON’T COMPLY? POTENTIAL PRESIDENT MITT ROMNEY BETTER STAY AWARE OF THE ‘TEA PARTY’ EMPOWERMENT, AS IF HE THINKS OF PLAYING ALONG IN THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUE, HE WILL BE RECOGNISED AS A FLIP-FLOPPER.

Even the House Speaker John Boehner has refused to bring up compulsory E-Verify for a House vote. Obviously he and his entrenched colleagues will not allow it anywhere near the Congress, as he and his fellow conspirators are subject to the corporate donations, to keep the old school corrupting our system of government. E-Verify is just one bill that must be passed to save the jobs of millions of low income Americans mainly.

The Independents, and uncountable numbers of delusional Democrats, Republicans are recognizing that the Lib-Democrats are out to win the grand price in November, but now millions of TEA PARTY people will not fall into their political trap. This is the same with photo ID to vote, who have ruthless personages as U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Kings court caterwauling ‘voter Suppression’, when all the TEA PARTY requests is a fair and equitable election. Surf the internet under ‘Voter Fraud’ and you will discover the hundreds of cases of this diabolical use of our most trusted right of American citizens, being compromised by NON CITIZENS, felons and illegal aliens. This began with inception of canvassing provided by ACORN organization, which signed up just about anybody and were eventually caught and 11 states are resolving this criminal issue.

Another law that remains quietly concealed from the public is the Rep. Steve Kings THE BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ACT (H.R.140). An astronomical amount of money is being extracted from every taxpaying American that supports the annual arrival of an estimated 400.000 smuggled babies into the United States. They are concealed in their Mother’s womb and once here becomes the taxpayers charge. These females although illegal that once they set foot on American soil, their offspring receive a free delivery, free heath care and a free education, thanks to unfunded mandates handed down by the courts. The only salvation from this misjudged law is to amend the 14th amendment, which an only child with one citizen parent qualifies for instant citizenship. Illegal alien parents are well aware that if they smuggle the unborn child through an international airport terminal or past the U.S. Border Patrol, they are free and clear as the misguided law stands today. In addition the Secure Communities (287G) should stay in place, not rescinded by the Liberal amassing of voices in the department of Justice.

With only four months to go before D-Day us the voter only has that one slender chance of changing the direction of our country. With the democrats cocooned with the Liberals, the only promise is uncontrolled ‘Tax and Spend’ so elevating the 16 Trillion dollar deficit we owe the rest of the worlds investors. Then under the Republicans, a lesser of the evils, but even so they must be controlled by the TEA PARTY LEADERSHIP.

Anybody who contradicts the writings in the U.S. Constitution, who is adverse to a real border fence, who is unconcerned about the 20 million plus illegal aliens already here or the harbinger of a further invasion from Central and South America needs to be relieved of their seats in Washington, not excluding the majority of legislators in Congress, state governors as Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, Jerry Brown of California, and Mayors as Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles—all must be replaced by TEA PARTY MEMBERS. All the pro-illegal immigrant law makers are destroying this sovereign country, as they are well aware that illegal aliens vote. That is why Americans, Hispanic, Latin, Black, White Asian and others should join one of the thousands of local chapters of the TEA PARTY. Incidentally there are hundreds of thousands of TEA PARTY women members, with some great leaders amongst them. They should be ready to oversee the elections, including the rampant fraud in the absentee ballot. Around the country the election rolls are crowded with the names of the deceased, others who have moved to a different state. There are many ways our most sacred of rights have been compromised and only the citizen voter can change it.

Remember under Obama Imperial court we will be paying not only for any person who illegally ventures here, but for millions of Americans who have found it easy, to just live of the taxpayer. Beneath our feet is abundance of wealth in oil, natural gas and coal for energy that President Obama denies us. Those trillions of dollars in excess gallons of crude oil could clearly go to replenish state treasuries and the remainder could be sold to our friends in other countries. Under Obama and decades of environmental zealots, we have not been cut off from our own resources, relying on governments abroad that hate us. Even the abundance of oil from Canada is better than dealing with foreign potentates.

Attention: Investigation of President Obama’s background history is due to be released by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on July 17, 2012 and could stun everybody. The upcoming press conference is set to be held at 2:30 p.m. local time at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona, with World Net Daily again providing live streaming video coverage.
