Condi Rice for Mitt’s veep? You mean THIS Condi Rice?

Condi Rice for vice president?

Personally, I think it’s a great idea, but only if Joe Biden decides that he doesn’t want a second term.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

But wait … Drudge is reporting that she’s now a frontrunner for the Republican veep pick?

Hmmm. That would be interesting. She is obviously qualified for the position, and her selection would shake up the campaign in ways that no other potential candidate could match.

On the other hand:

She has described President Bush’s decision to withdraw from the Kyoto Treaty on climate change as a “self-inflicted wound,” and while she doesn’t support implementing Kyoto in its present form, she believes the United States must lead international action on that problem.

Rice has also discussed what she calls her “mildly pro-choice” views, defends Roe v. Wade and “can’t imagine why one would take these decisions out of the hands of the family.” She believes it “appropriate” to consider race in college admissions, says affirmative action is needed “if it does not lead to quotas” and acknowledges that she herself benefited from the program. As secretary of state, she appointed that department’s first chief diversity officer.

She supports civil unions for gay Americans and warns against mixing religion and politics, “because that is really when man is trying to use God for his own purposes.” She has also made clear her distaste for the Dick Cheney school of foreign policy, from which Romney has drawn most of his foreign policy advisers. In fact, she publicly defended Obama against charges by Cheney that he has weakened the country, nothing that “Nothing in this president’s methods suggests this president is other than a defender of America’s interests.”

Rice is on the record as recognizing that both tax increases and spending cuts will be needed to balance the budget, with an emphasis on spending cuts. However, she opposes spending cuts on foreign aid, which Romney has proposed, and backs “strong investment in renewable energy like wind and solar” to begin to wean the country off oil.

She believes most illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in this country, advocating “comprehensive immigration reform”. The United States, she said in 2008, “is going to have to have enlightened immigration policies if we’re going to stay this strong, competitive, open magnet for the best and brightest from around the world that we’ve been.”

And on Israel, the conservative Jewish Telegraphic Agency warns that ‘overall she’s a big advocate of a two-state solution who is closer to the Obama team on this issue than she is to where the GOP candidates and GOP base have been during this campaign season.”

Now, if the modern Republican Party is nonetheless willing to have a candidate with such beliefs on its national ticket — and if it’s willing to “let Condi be Condi,” rather than force her to do a full Romney and recant these and other positions — then I think that her nomination would be great for both the party and the nation.

Somehow, I’m a little doubtful that’s going to happen.

Condoleeza Rice has stongly stated she has no desire to get back into politics. That remains to be seen, but if she’s indeed her own woman, she apparently would, as Jay said, be a better pick to replace Joe Biden. I’ll wager she’s too classy to allow herself to be used as a tool for the purpose of diverting enough black votes to defeat Obama. Black voters will quickly wise up to that.

“Y’all need some new material. I saw a quinnipiac poll that had o leading 94 to 2% against Romney in the black community. To say that at least some of that isn’t due solely to race is to strain credulity not to mention common sense.”

The point was that 0311 said that *all* of it was due to race. I disagreed with him. Maybe you can see the difference in what he said, what I said and what you said — if you think about it a little.

Maybe you might think better of me if I told you I’m strongly pro-choice and am appalled by how the GOP is trying to shut down abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood? I think I favor Herman Cain’s point of view here. Decisions about whether to have an abortion should be left to individuals and families, not made by the government.

Just another reason why he has to go !!!

Headline: “Republicans accuse HHS of gutting welfare reform with quiet policy change”

“Republicans are accusing the Obama administration of unilaterally gutting welfare reform after the Department of Health and Human Services quietly notified states that they may seek a waiver for the program’s strict work requirements.

HHS made the announcement in a policy memo Thursday, news that slipped well below the radar amid a raucous day on the presidential campaign trail. But a few prominent GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill picked up on the change, and accused the administration of overhauling one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades.

“President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract” Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, D-Ohio, said in a statement. He also called the move a “blatant violation of the law.”

Mitt Romney on Friday spoke up on the change, saying: “President Obama now wants to strip the established work requirements from welfare.” He said “the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.”

“I said hundreds of thousands did which helped give him the election.”

I asked you to demonstrate that, and you had nothing other than your own wild speculation. All you could present was Samuel L. Jackson. I ridiculed that, asking you if that meant that *all* blacks would automatically have to do the same thing. THEN you said “Agree do disagree. See my 12:35 time hundreds of thousands,” but you can’t demonstrate that, can you? Once again, you *suspect* the number is that large, but you don’t really know, do you?

“Hundreds of thousands of others considered their knowledge of Obama’s policies and as a result voted for or against him.”

Everything should be on the table including sexual preference/orientation…

Yeah, like we really need to know who diddles which dangles with who, when, where and how often?

Great. Nominate Condi.

This woman’s area of expertise entering the Bush administration was the Soviet Union for god’s sake. Now, that jibes with Mitt’s belief that the former Soviet countries are our biggest threat but come on!

I hope Mitt picks her. Her supposed strength is acutally a weakness – foreign policy. She was a disaster as NSA and as SoS.

Bring her on.

I'm a liberal and believe everything I read and nothing the other side comes up with...cause we're smart and they are not

Drive by – Have you heard about the new Urban Dictionary entry? It’s Harry Reid! It’s described as a sexual position where you climb on top and then do absolutely nothing!

It’s called pandering.

Self-deprecating humor is “pandering?”

stuff like this:

“I never had an interest in being a mayor ’cause that’s a real job. You have to produce. That’s why I was able to be a senator for 36 years.”

or this:

“I guess what I’m trying to say without boring you too long at breakfast – and you all look dull as hell, I might add. The dullest audience I have ever spoken to. Just sitting there, staring at me. Pretend you like me!”

?

Pandering?

I do not think it means what you think it means.

Didn’t have to wait long for the mushroom cloud. Synecdoche is a literary trope, not a tool for divining thoughts and emotions of republicans. Word is that Condi has given some standing ovation speeches at a number of meetings, and was especially cheered for her *storm Washington* words. In any case, I don’t think the vp selection committee needs any advice from Bookman, and it is self evident that the cannibals on the Obama side are sharpening their carving knives for whoever is chosen.

“I’m the better person to be your President, and Obamacare is not a good piece of law.”

Yep it did a great job of riling up his base and nothing more’

How about Romney flying in people to his speech so he could have some support then say after the speech he met with some black leaders

yeah, the ones he flew in

Great, great marketing gimmick

Wonder if Biden told the NAACP crowd last week how ” clean” they looked…LOL

Wonder if the NAACP booed him repeatedly like they did Romney? Ever bigger LOL…

“Only problem I see is that she could over shadow Romney.”

There is that. Not that it’s necessarily a problem. It could be a plus.

Nyuk, nyuk nyuk.

It’s congress that has the checkbook, sport.

“I think Mr. Bookman is overlooking the fact that the VP does not really have that much power, unless, of course, the president dies, and that does not happen very often. Does anybody really think Biden is telling Obama what to do? Democrats should be very worried that Romney does pick her, as that could win him the election right there.”

That’s precisely what President Cheney told Vice President Bush.

Not really.

Congress is more the banking account than the checkbook. Congress did not specifically give billions to failed green energy companies, the Obama administration did.
