Condi Rice for Mitt’s veep? You mean THIS Condi Rice?
Condi Rice for vice president?
Personally, I think it’s a great idea, but only if Joe Biden decides that he doesn’t want a second term.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
But wait … Drudge is reporting that she’s now a frontrunner for the Republican veep pick?
Hmmm. That would be interesting. She is obviously qualified for the position, and her selection would shake up the campaign in ways that no other potential candidate could match.
On the other hand:
She has described President Bush’s decision to withdraw from the Kyoto Treaty on climate change as a “self-inflicted wound,” and while she doesn’t support implementing Kyoto in its present form, she believes the United States must lead international action on that problem.
Rice has also discussed what she calls her “mildly pro-choice” views, defends Roe v. Wade and “can’t imagine why one would take these decisions out of the hands of the family.” She believes it “appropriate” to consider race in college admissions, says affirmative action is needed “if it does not lead to quotas” and acknowledges that she herself benefited from the program. As secretary of state, she appointed that department’s first chief diversity officer.
She supports civil unions for gay Americans and warns against mixing religion and politics, “because that is really when man is trying to use God for his own purposes.” She has also made clear her distaste for the Dick Cheney school of foreign policy, from which Romney has drawn most of his foreign policy advisers. In fact, she publicly defended Obama against charges by Cheney that he has weakened the country, nothing that “Nothing in this president’s methods suggests this president is other than a defender of America’s interests.”
Rice is on the record as recognizing that both tax increases and spending cuts will be needed to balance the budget, with an emphasis on spending cuts. However, she opposes spending cuts on foreign aid, which Romney has proposed, and backs “strong investment in renewable energy like wind and solar” to begin to wean the country off oil.
She believes most illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in this country, advocating “comprehensive immigration reform”. The United States, she said in 2008, “is going to have to have enlightened immigration policies if we’re going to stay this strong, competitive, open magnet for the best and brightest from around the world that we’ve been.”
And on Israel, the conservative Jewish Telegraphic Agency warns that ‘overall she’s a big advocate of a two-state solution who is closer to the Obama team on this issue than she is to where the GOP candidates and GOP base have been during this campaign season.”
Now, if the modern Republican Party is nonetheless willing to have a candidate with such beliefs on its national ticket — and if it’s willing to “let Condi be Condi,” rather than force her to do a full Romney and recant these and other positions — then I think that her nomination would be great for both the party and the nation.
Somehow, I’m a little doubtful that’s going to happen.

I would agree with your comments about Mitt and the hard right, except that this was the primaries. For the general election, he’s got to moderate that and he knows it. Just like the D base will vote for whoever the D candidate is, so will the R base.
As for last p.m., sometimes discretion is the greater part of valor, and thanks a million a hundred times over for what you had to say when the conversation took the predictable turn…I especially rolled on the floor with that endorsement of the GOP one…that was funny to the max!

Palin had too many knowledge gaps, and it showed when she was “being Palin”. Condi on the other hand. . . would likely sweep the floor with anyone on most topics.

You don’t get it. It’s not skin color, it’s the perception that Obama ‘gets’ their problems and concerns. The GOP as a whole is so clueless that they *think* it’s about skin color, and if you decide that’s what the problem is, it serves as an excuse to not even TRY to win those votes or figure out what problems those voters have.
Your reply to me is just another example of how absolutely tone-deaf most GOP supporters *are* on how to score more minority votes. I seem to recall having to explain to y’all recently how Marco Rubio wasn’t going to bring every hispanic voter right along with him, and some of y’all didn’t get that, either.

Hard to speculate about such a broad statement. However….
I was always a fan of McCain the Maverick and was really hoping that he was pandering to the Far Right in 2008 and that he would return to his old self after the election. I donated to his campaign and was prepared to vote for him. Then came the Palin “Hail Mary” selection as his running mate. And yes, it was enough for me to grudgingly switch my vote. McCain’s age and health problems just scared me too much at that point. If Condi had been the pick I would have stayed pat.

Instead of leaving in 1999, Romney suggested in his testimony that he only left Bain after the Olympics in 2002: “I left on the basis of a leave of absence indicating that I, by virtue of that title, would return at the end of the Olympics to my employment at Bain Capital, but subsequently decided not to do so and entered into a departure agreement with my former partners. I use that in the colloquial sense, not legal sense, but my former partners.”

I like Dr. Rice; not so much for many of her political views. I have two of her books and enjoy her writings. Having her on the ticket will put to rest the belief that African Americans voted for Obama only because he is black. That’s a lie; if you don’t believe it’s a lie, ask Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton how much support they got when they ran.

UPDATE: 9:15 p.m. — The Romney campaign responded by focusing on Romney’s involvement with Bain itself, and argued that the state Ballot Law Commission validated the argument that Romney was not involved in day-to-day Bain matters.

Henneberg called the controversy over Romney’s employment at Bain “just another distraction from a desperate campaign that is willing to say anything to divert attention from President Obama’s failed record in office.”
However, the purpose of the Ballot Law Commission inquiry was to determine Romney’s residency, not whether he had done any part-time work on behalf of Bain.

I sort of like your sort of endorsement of Condi Rice for a running mate for Mitt. It is a nice fit, the head of the ticket having sterling qualifications and the experience in foreign affairs that Condi brings to the republican team.
However, I see a midwest choice on the horizon, he has been leading the Chicago fight against crime as mayor[Emanuel]. Illinois is the heartland of America and our greatest statesman came from Spingfield. Now, I know, the Mayor of Chicago is a friend of the current President, but he may see the new frontier that Mitt offers for America. I think you may have missed the point on court jester fool. That is not now, nor has it ever been, a dishonorable nor negative position. The court jester was, and often still is, the most informed and in the know of the regime. My objection to him is the second part of what I said, with little real substance.

When Democrats have had 90% of the Black vote or many years now, I’d say you’re reaching. Was race a factor in 2008 (and will be in 2012)? Sure. But not as much as you’re making it out to be.
