It’s no surprise that House Republicans have gotten very good at this “repeal” thing, given the practice they’ve had at it. When they vote yet again today to kill ObamaCare, by some counts it will be the 31st time they have voted to repeal all or part of that much-reviled piece of legislation.
However, they’re not so good about keeping the second half of their 2010 campaign pledge, the part about “replacing” ObamaCare with a conservative alternative that accomplishes many of the same goals.
“Why is it so hard?” Matt Miller asks in a fine piece in today’s Washington Post. “Because Obamacare WAS the Republican alternative. It was the conservative-designed mandate and subsidy approach…. Only in America could a Democratic president pass Mitt Romney’s health plan and fund it partly through John McCain’s best idea from the last campaign (taxing some employer-provided plans) and be branded a ’socialist’.”
As I noted in the blog post earlier this morning, I’m always leery of pundits offering free advice on how a candidate should campaign, but I’ll make an exception in Miller’s case. He writes:
“Here’s what you should do, Mr. President. In the debates this fall, pull out a small laminated card you’ve had made as a prop for this purpose. Then remind Mitt Romney that the ranks of the uninsured today are equal to the combined populations of Oklahoma, Connecticut, Iowa, Mississippi, Kansas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico, West Virginia, Nebraska, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska, Vermont and Wyoming.
Read that list slowly, Mr. President. Then ask your opponent: “Would America turn its back on the citizens of these 25 states if everyone there lacked basic health coverage? That’s what we’ve been doing for decades. You knew it was right to act when you were governor of Massachusetts, Mitt. How can you pretend we don’t need to solve this for the nation? And how can you object with a straight face when your own pioneering plan was my model?”
The president should also say he’d be happy to talk reform once Republicans offer a rival plan that the CBO certifies will cover 30 million people, as the Affordable Care Act does.
Today’s Republican party won’t do it. They want the money for tax cuts for the top. They don’t care.”
Well put, Mr. Miller. Very well put.

This is fallout from a failure in leadership. Just about everyone knows that health care costs are a problem and that reform is needed. The president also knew that to achieve this, legislation would need to be supported by a majority, not 50 + 1 (Obama 9/25/2007). He has managed to take a problem that the vast majority of Americans know needs to be solved and divided the country because he abandoned a principle he once believed in for reasons only he knows. Maybe he now believes the end justifies the means, maybe he saw his chance to make history and grabbed it, who knows. An effective leader avoids these outcomes at all costs because the resulting division can destroy the enterprise. That’s what candidate Obama said he wouldn’t do, but that’s what President Obama has done and continues to do.

I use to believe blacks would vote for Barry no matter what. Apparently not so. Little Barry did not bother to show up at the NAACP convention (he sent the bumbling VP), but Mitt did. Romney gave a great speech and got a standing O at the end (which likely won’t be covered by the lame stream media). Also got several “organ stings” during his speech also. Now, you perverts leave that organ sting alone.

Why am I not surprised that the prior “interpretation” from a conned disagrees with reality…. oh wait…I am not surprised at all.
Mitt Romney addressed the national convention of the NAACP Wednesday morning, the nation’s largest civil rights organization. He was cordially received by the audience, who greeted him with a standing ovation, but the tone changed quickly after the GOP presidential candidate began his remarks.
The crowd booed Romney when he called for the full repeal of Obamacare and audibly laughed when he suggested he would be a better president than Obama for the African-American community. Also notable was what was left unsaid. Romney failed to address voting rights, which is a major theme of this NAACP gathering.

Can somebody please tell me why rich liberals can’t seem to pay their taxes?
(CNN) — Wealthy socialite and Grammy-nominated songwriter Denise Rich has renounced her U.S. citizenship and resides in London, her spokeswoman Judy Smith said Tuesday.
Rich’s maiden name, Eisenberg, appeared on April 30 in the Federal Registrar’s Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have Chosen To Expatriate, though she left in November 2011.
By handing in her American passport, tax lawyers say she is able to legally avoid paying significant taxes on her estate.
Rich, 68, is the ex-wife of billionaire commodities trader Marc Rich, who was pardoned in 2001 by then-president Bill Clinton for oil profiteering and tax evasion after he fled to Switzerland. The pardon was considered controversial because of Denise Rich’s financial contributions to the Democratic Party and to the Clinton Library.
Schumer to Saverin: Leave, but pay taxes
Facebook co-founder “defriends” U.S. As of 2001, Denise Rich had made more than $1.3 million in political contributions to the Democratic Party since 1993, including $70,000 to Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign and $450,000 to the Clinton presidential library in Arkansas.
Investigators told CNN at the time that there were Secret Service logs showing that Rich went to the White House the last night of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

So, it appears that that august champion of liberal black causes, that defender of the down trodden and keeper of the faith, none other than Duvall Patrick, the Gov of MA has just refused to sign a bill passed by his Democratically dominated state legislature, limiting what food stamp recipients can buy with their government handout. The legislature objected to the purchase of ammo for your gun, lottery tickets, manicures, visits to the tattoo parlor, alcohol, tobacco and numerous other things that those on the dole just can’t do without. The kicker is that they can also go to an ATM and withdraw cash on the balance which the legislature says is breaking the bank. But, no, we have to protect the black vote in MA for Mr. Patrick, do we not Governor? If that doesn’t stimulate you to shake your head in wonder, you are part of the problem.

After all this time of reading what i believed to be Ty Webb’s wither willful ignorance or lies believe I have finally figured it out.
It’s as if I place 2 red delicious apples, same size, weight, color and shape on a table. I then say “those two are entirely different.” Technically, I speak the truth as the are 2 different items. The problem comes when I stop my explanation there. I haven’t lied, but have only told you the part of the truth to which I want you to pay attention. Now you’d have to be pretty gullible, or love me like my Momma, to let me get away with it, but I would be telling the truth.
And that is what passes for truth and logic on the part of the vast majority of the right today. It’s not truly double-speak, it’s more of a lie of omission which is far more insidious.
Hopefully people are waking up and saying to themselves ….”well that’s just stupid.” If not, things are only going to get worse.

There is ongoing discussion as to whether the IRS in the law as enacted actually has any enforcement authority. The law specifically states that, with respect to the penalty/tax, the IRS cannot levy or lien any property (that would include no garnishments) and that no criminal prosecution may lie for failure to pay the penalty/tax. I have read insighftul articles by both liberals and conservatives.
That aside, the private insurance companies will come knocking on RMoney’s door (or pull their money from him) if he doesn’t do whatever can be done to get people to purchase insurance. In order for insurers to cover pre-existing conditions, etc. their expectation is they will have more customers. Now whether those customers currently outside the market are primarily younger, healthier customers or more likely to be older, less healthy customers is not really known.
But I think the insurance lobby will have alot to say about whether the government “leans” on the freeloaders to buy insurance by threatening to pursue the penalty/tax

The phrase “lots of people bring me problems but hardly anyone brings me solutions” applies very well to Republicans when it comes to health care reform.
Regarding Jay’s repeat of the scenario for the debates, Gov Romney would probably answer “you leave it to the states, the laboratories for innovation and blah blah blah’ after which Pres Obama would say ‘and the only state that has effectively dealt with the problem, as you well know, Governor, is Massachusetts when you were governor and enacted Romneycare, with the mandates and subsidies and penalties.”
Those are going to be some fun debates.

If the ACA is so great, why were the exemptions, exceptions and bribes necessary to get the required votes?

Just remember, of all the governing bodies, the House of Representatives (not the President, the Senate or the Supreme Court) was chosen by our founding fathers to be most representative of the people.
That’s why taxes must start there.

Republicans are simply doing what the people want….

Perhaps you could references some polls that are less than 6 months old. Here are a collection of poll results from after the SC decision.

Seems it is evenly split on the ACA (WSJ 47% pro ACA, 43% against). But Americans definitly say it is time for the Republicans to move on (56% to 44%).
