I’m trying to decide which right-wing reaction to Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare is my favorite, and I just can’t settle on one winner. So maybe you could help me.
Here are your options:

A. An angry Glenn Beck — but I repeat myself — referring to Chief Justice John Roberts as “the Dread Pirate Roberts” and announcing that his website would be selling T-shirts featuring Roberts’ picture and the caption “Coward,” all for just $30.
B.) U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, celebrating after hearing initial and incorrect reports that the Supreme Court had struck down the mandate:
C.) The statement put out by Roy Nicholson, chairman of the Mississippi Tea Party, who went all Jefferson Davis on us:
“All of us are now simply chattel of the government to be used and ordered about as they choose. The history books will mark this date as the day our constitutional republic was killed. It will now rest with We The People to decide if it will be resurrected or left to rot in the shallow grave dug for it.
Where is the weeping and wailing? Where is the anger and outrage? Do the people of the country realize what has just been stolen from them? Do the people of the world recognize that the shadow of darkness is now fallen upon them as well and that there remains no defender of their feeble freedoms? The all-out oppression of all people has begun.
Those “occupiers” now controlling the three federal branches of government have joined together in rejecting all Constitutional restraint and in doing so they have severely violated their oaths to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Together they now stand as blatant usurpers of power and have reduced our constitutional republic, along with all of its freedoms, to nothing more than a dictatorial junta. Becoming a banana republic is next.
When a gang of criminals subvert legitimate government offices and seize all power to themselves without the real consent of the governed their every act and edict is of itself illegal and is outside the bounds of the Rule of Law. In such cases submission is treason. Treason against the Constitution and the valid legitimate government of the nation to which we have pledged our allegiance for years. To resist by all means that are right in the eyes of God is not rebellion or insurrection, it is patriotic resistance to invasion.
May all of us fall on our faces before the Heavenly Judge, repent of our sins, and humbly cry out to Him for mercy on our country. And, may godly courageous leaders rise up in His wisdom and power to lead us in displacing the criminal invaders from their seats and restore our constitutional republic.”
D.) Matt Davis, former spokesman for the Michigan Republican Party, who posed the question:
Is Armed Rebellion Now Justified?
“Implicit in Benjamin Franklin’s fabled response at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention was a dire warning: That the Republic would one day devolve into tyranny unless we the people prevented it.
In 2008, we the people elected Barack Obama as president, and the 100-year progressive trek to tyranny begun in 1912 with Woodrow Wilson’s election was complete. It cannot be said too many times — for the purposes of emphasis and clarity — that the Constitution was possible ONLY AFTER the American Revolution; and that the war itself would not have been possible without the collective agreement, as so eloquently articulated in the Declaration of Independence, that the course of human events will sometimes justify one group of people to sever themselves from their oppressors.
In other words, America itself was possible only after its people summoned the will to risk their lives and their futures — as well as those of their children — for a freedom they did not enjoy but knew was their gift from God. Along with their desire to be free came their willingness to engaged in armed rebellion for their freedom.
If government can mandate that I pay for something I don’t want, then what is beyond its power? If the Supreme Court’s decision Thursday paves the way for unprecedented intrusion into personal decisions, then has the Republic all but ceased to exist? If so, then is armed rebellion today justified?
God willing, this oppression will be lifted and America free again before the first shot is fired.”
Or as they put it in the music-video version:
E.) U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, who clearly wasn’t paying attention when he was studying constitutional law back in ophthalmology school:
“Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so. The whole thing remains unconstitutional.”
F.) Ben Shapiro, editor-at-large of Breitbart.com, who tweeted:

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we await your verdict.

Gee Jam, I thought this guy was voted in to stop the US from going under financially among other things. The reason the US was downgraded was because there was and still no plan to start erasing the debt. How much was the deficit when this guy took office? How much is it now? How much more is Obamacare going to add to it? Anybody that votes for this guy again better get their “Shovel Ready’ because there is going to be alot more ca-ca to dig just to keep the country’s nose barely above it.

But what was and is really striking about the anti-reformers is their cruelty. It would be one thing if, at any point, they had offered any hint of an alternative proposal to help Americans with pre-existing conditions, Americans who simply can’t afford expensive individual insurance, Americans who lose coverage along with their jobs. But it has long been obvious that the opposition’s goal is simply to kill reform, never mind the human consequences. We should all be thankful that, for the moment at least, that effort has failed.

If nothing else the ObamaCare ruling weakens the element of predictability from Supreme Court decisions.
The days of counting on the usual 5-4 split based on political ideology would appear to be over, at least while the current nine are there.

I’ve thought the same thing. I have no plans to ever drop insurance coverage for me or the family. I’d be a complete dumbass to work in my field and not carry insurance. I have insurance, and in some cases, I have insurance ON the insurance. I’m not taking any chances.

What’s the plan Orange? How do the Republicans plan on repairing the damage they did to the deficit? Republicans act like it either never happened or occurred 50 years ago. Its only been 3 and a half years.
When are Republicans planning to repeal their “socialist” unfunded Medicare Part D? Or at the least how are they going to fund it?
Obama is carrying the tab for two unfunded Republican wars that cost at least a trillion dollars, how are the Republicans planning on fixing that screw up?
How do we pay for the Republicans unfunded Dept of Homeland Security?
What about the crazy Bush tax cuts that were handed out during the Republican spending spree which is still on the books? Any plans to take care of that debacle?
What’s the plan?????

The problem with the decision is that with his opinion Roberts did not rule on the case before the Court, that of the legality of using the Commerce Clause to force this boondoggle on the U..S. taxpayers. Instead he basically rewrote the law, not a Constitutional duty of the Court! And, I do not think they ruled one way or the other that the Obamacare was Constitutional, ONLY THAT THE MANDATE AS A TAX WAS!

Gee Jam, I thought this guy was voted in to stop the US from going under financially among other things.
Then you were naive. HE cannot do that. He is an American president, not a king or an emperor. He cannot sprinkle some magic dust and make all of our gargantuan, decades long problems just go poof! And you should know that.
And to your point, the US did not “go under”, did it?
She took one helluva crushing overhand right to the nose in 2008, but she got back up off of the mat and got back into the fight. At least those of us who still had some semblance of a home, career and future.
The reason the US was downgraded was for a whole raft of reasons. All stemming form the same crimes and all highly inter-related.
That you honestly think that you can compartmentalize all of these issues into wholly separate matters and not address the fundamental, underlying reasons, and perhaps most importantly, who did what to whom, is proof that you will never go much beyond your perpetual ODS and blaming that one single human being for everything that has gone wrong for forty years.
Further, I believe that your unwillingness to stand up the men who actually committed these staggering crimes against the republic explains fully your bizarre loathing for the protesters who do…

You’re right, but your answer is not complete.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/spratingreport_080611.pdf
In addition to not having a plan to combat our increasing debt and deficits, there’s also this bit in the report…
· The downgrade reflects our opinion that the fiscal consolidation plan
that Congress and the Administration recently agreed to falls short of
what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government’s
medium-term debt dynamics.
· More broadly, the downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness,
stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political
institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic
challenges to a degree more than we envisioned when we assigned a
negative outlook to the rating on April 18, 2011.
· Since then, we have changed our view of the difficulties in bridging the
gulf between the political parties over fiscal policy, which makes us
pessimistic about the capacity of Congress and the Administration to be
able to leverage their agreement this week into a broader fiscal
consolidation plan that stabilizes the government’s debt dynamics any
time soon.
Those bullet points are directly from S&P’s report. Read the last two and understand why not having a plan looks so bad. Imagine how much of an impact that statements such as:
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
“We worked very hard to keep our fingerprints off of these proposals, because we thought — correctly, I think — that the only way the American people would know that a great debate was going on was if the measures were not bipartisan.”
Those two statements were made by a GOP leader, Mitch McConnell, and not just some random member of Congress. When the head of a Congressional contingent is openly communicating things such as that in public forums, what outlook is there in seeing any attempts at coming together to work on our problems. I’m not letting Obama or Democrats off the hook as they are 1/2 of the problem, but by no stretch of the imagination can anybody claim that the GOP is even 1/2 of the solution right now.

Orange,
The downgrade did not change anything and Kam is right about their credibility.
The market indicated that after the EU bails out their banks, it is back to business as usual until they collapse the global economy again on a new scam..

Getalife,
There you go again. However. you are right about the downgrade not changing much.
What it in effect is, is that you had better start showing proof that you are getting your financial house in shape. Obama has not done this nor does he have a clue as to where to start. The next financial downgrade will hurt the country.

“Why didn’t you ask WHY the credit downgrade happened too? I guess some people will slant facts to push a partisaned idea eventhough the situation has no similar reasoning”
And THEN ask: what effect did that downgrade actually have?
answer: NONE

“Danny, I thought you were gone. Nope you are wrong again. The Republicans gave Obama a viable plan and Obama , himself, put the calabash on it.”
If Republicans had come up with a viable plan that was rejected by Obama, Romney would be up by 10 pts right on his way to a big November victory. The fact is the Republican temper tantrum of 2011 put the brakes on their momentum. Romney’s secret plan that cuts taxes again and raises defense spending is doing nothing but reminding the American public of the dreadful Bush years.
What ever happened to the super committee budget cuts? Where is that headed? Oh, and how do Republicans repair the damage they caused to the deficit, you left out the details, something like Republicans are only offering a bogus plan.

The cuts were on the table and the gop walked away because if their tax pledge.
Do you ever blame your party for anything?
BTW, the gop house did not cut spending and are spending like nothing happened.

Danny,
Wasn’t Cantnor’s plan viable? National Defense is important in my opinion, we don’t need a second rate military especially in todays world hense keep the funding. I beleive the Republican plan would have stopped the downgrade.

Cuts by who? The Reps or the Dems. The deal was done until Obama nixed it himself. And yes, the Reps do have faults. But they aren’t in the Presidential drivers seat during the last 3 & 1/2 years.

Your speaker walked away over taxes. The gop house spent another 642 billion more on the mic but to be fair they extended unemployment and food stamp money during this crisis. Their last bill spent 108 billion on road construction, extended low interest rates for students and flood insurance.
I watch them on C-Span.

“Wasn’t Cantnor’s plan viable?”
The American public said hell no.
Most Americans are calling for a combination of budget cuts and tax increases. Republicans thought the 2010 election gave them the right to dictate the terms without compromise, big mistake. You don’t seem to understand that politically it was the Republicans that took a hit during last years budget battle. To say that Cantor’s plan was acceptable is pure fantasy.
