The most over-the-top response to ObamaCare ruling

What's your favorite reaction to Thursday's Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare?

View Results

Loading ... Loading ...

I’m trying to decide which right-wing reaction to Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare is my favorite, and I just can’t settle on one winner. So maybe you could help me.

Here are your options:

beck.coward

A. An angry Glenn Beck — but I repeat myself — referring to Chief Justice John Roberts as “the Dread Pirate Roberts” and announcing that his website would be selling T-shirts featuring Roberts’ picture and the caption “Coward,” all for just $30.

B.) U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, celebrating after hearing initial and incorrect reports that the Supreme Court had struck down the mandate:

C.) The statement put out by Roy Nicholson, chairman of the Mississippi Tea Party, who went all Jefferson Davis on us:

“All of us are now simply chattel of the government to be used and ordered about as they choose. The history books will mark this date as the day our constitutional republic was killed. It will now rest with We The People to decide if it will be resurrected or left to rot in the shallow grave dug for it.

Where is the weeping and wailing? Where is the anger and outrage? Do the people of the country realize what has just been stolen from them? Do the people of the world recognize that the shadow of darkness is now fallen upon them as well and that there remains no defender of their feeble freedoms? The all-out oppression of all people has begun.

Those “occupiers” now controlling the three federal branches of government have joined together in rejecting all Constitutional restraint and in doing so they have severely violated their oaths to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Together they now stand as blatant usurpers of power and have reduced our constitutional republic, along with all of its freedoms, to nothing more than a dictatorial junta. Becoming a banana republic is next.

When a gang of criminals subvert legitimate government offices and seize all power to themselves without the real consent of the governed their every act and edict is of itself illegal and is outside the bounds of the Rule of Law. In such cases submission is treason. Treason against the Constitution and the valid legitimate government of the nation to which we have pledged our allegiance for years. To resist by all means that are right in the eyes of God is not rebellion or insurrection, it is patriotic resistance to invasion.

May all of us fall on our faces before the Heavenly Judge, repent of our sins, and humbly cry out to Him for mercy on our country. And, may godly courageous leaders rise up in His wisdom and power to lead us in displacing the criminal invaders from their seats and restore our constitutional republic.”

D.) Matt Davis, former spokesman for the Michigan Republican Party, who posed the question:

Is Armed Rebellion Now Justified?

“Implicit in Benjamin Franklin’s fabled response at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention was a dire warning: That the Republic would one day devolve into tyranny unless we the people prevented it.

In 2008, we the people elected Barack Obama as president, and the 100-year progressive trek to tyranny begun in 1912 with Woodrow Wilson’s election was complete. It cannot be said too many times — for the purposes of emphasis and clarity — that the Constitution was possible ONLY AFTER the American Revolution; and that the war itself would not have been possible without the collective agreement, as so eloquently articulated in the Declaration of Independence, that the course of human events will sometimes justify one group of people to sever themselves from their oppressors.

In other words, America itself was possible only after its people summoned the will to risk their lives and their futures — as well as those of their children — for a freedom they did not enjoy but knew was their gift from God. Along with their desire to be free came their willingness to engaged in armed rebellion for their freedom.

If government can mandate that I pay for something I don’t want, then what is beyond its power? If the Supreme Court’s decision Thursday paves the way for unprecedented intrusion into personal decisions, then has the Republic all but ceased to exist? If so, then is armed rebellion today justified?

God willing, this oppression will be lifted and America free again before the first shot is fired.”

Or as they put it in the music-video version:

E.) U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, who clearly wasn’t paying attention when he was studying constitutional law back in ophthalmology school:

“Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so. The whole thing remains unconstitutional.”

F.) Ben Shapiro, editor-at-large of Breitbart.com, who tweeted:

None of these hysterical conservatives seem to remember that the Affordable Care Act was initially a healthcare plan created by Republicans. This plan was formulated at the conservative think-tank Heritage Foundation, and was touted by Republicans as the solution to the health care crisis. The plan stresses personal responsibility for healthcare, rather than allowing the uninsured to pass on their healthcare costs to those that pay for insurance, and was implemented by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. Sounds like something conservatives would support, right?

Except, of course, when it is proposed by that “Kenyan Socialist” Obama…

Well, thanks to the ruling, my small business boss got to keep his tax credit, along with 360,000 other small businesses that provided health care to their employees.

It was a win, win all the way around.

I saw some Republicans on the Sunday morning shows (how can you not? They are ALWAYS on there with their talking points). They ACTUALLY BELIEVE that governors denying medicaid expansion to their citizens will cause their citizens to vote Republican, because they think poor people will blame the Democrats for their governor’s obstinance.

Yep, funny isnt it, an idea that the Republicans like, the President comes along, says ” Hey, i like that idea, too. Lets get to work” Then the Republicans say ” Well, it wasnt that good of an idea after all.”

Just proves the point that their only mission was not to govern, but it was to obstruct with the idea to make the President a one-termer. So far, it isn’t working out so well for them.

FACT CHECK: On keeping your current health plan

July 2nd, 2012

WASHINGTON — In promoting the health care law, President Barack Obama is repeating his persistent and unsubstantiated assurance that Americans who like their health insurance can simply keep it. Republican rival Mitt Romney says quite the opposite, but his doomsday scenario is a stretch.

After the Supreme Court upheld the law last week, Obama stepped forward to tell Americans what good will come from it. Romney was quick to lay out the harm. But some of the evidence they gave to the court of public opinion was suspect.

A look at their claims and how they compare with the facts:

I just found out that our company is likely to end our HSA plan due to the legislation being found constitutional

Kindly provide details on just what it was about your health insurance program that was all-of-a-sudden rendered inoperable due to the individual mandate being held as constitutional?

because the provisions in the PPACA that limit the amount of deductables (basically, it bans crappy insurance plans, which is what most HSAs are unless you don’t actually NEED insurance) have nothing to do with an individual mandate, and would’ve survived unless the SCOTUS had rendered the mandate unseverable.

So, now we have the Bush tax cuts expiring in January, Bozocare kicks in with a tax that is not a tax and who gets hurt? Those struggling with loss of a job who are middle class taxpayers and do not need a huge tax increase at this time in their lives. The average tax bill goes up about $500/month. Oh, and I forgot….. “For those making 250K or less, your taxes will not increase…. not one thin dime”. “You can keep your doctor”. “You can keep your insurance company”. “The ACA will “only” cost the American taxpayer 940B dollars”. All lies. And you libs are comfortable letting the government have control of healthcare in this country? The same government that lies, deceives and bribes those who get in it’s way. Chicago thug politics at it’s best/worst run by the biggest thug of all time. And you vote for this arrogant idiot.

Your concerns regarding LGBT youth are appreciated. As Congress continues to develop an all around education plan, we must closely examine better avenues to ensure that we curb discrimination in our education system. There is no place in our schools for any type of discrimination. I assure you that education is an issue that is of utmost importance to me. I believe that there is no better investment for the well-being of our children and our country than education.

Gov Jindal was on Meet the Press, said how Obamacare was a gargantuan tax increase. Moderator said, just a minute, when a similar plan was instituted in Massachusetts, only 2 percent of households chose to pay the penalty rather than get insurance. So how can you call it a gargantuan tax increase?

Jindal said… umm. it’s government telling you what you can do!!!

Then flipped to Fox. Florida AG, one of leaders in the suit, said about the same talking point “this is the biggest tax increase etc etc’ and the host said ‘wow….”

One host does homework and challenges, other host serves as a foil and listens politely.

I’m interested to see how this plays out. Republicans: it’s the biggest tax increase in the history of the universe! Democrats: 1 or 2 percent of households who don’t want to get insurance and make you pay for their ER visits will pay a few hundred bucks.

Jm the major networks got it right. You have ,or use to, an obligation to the public to not put out this kind of misinformation. The public has gravitated to what they want to believe instead reality and there are plenty of facilitators for this pleasure.

The free world was created by a free press. The modern press has gone rogue. Nothing free about it, it goes to the highest bidder or ratings. How can we expect a moral country when the pillars of this country have sold out? Instead of fighting it the right rolls in it as a means to their purpose. They have invaded the church the same way. The one place they see progressiveness as vogue. Mega churches have taken over community churches, casual over formal, make it easy on them. Over 50% of marriages end in divorce, and not all people get married. Profile the average American over the average American 50 years or even 20 years ago. Labels such as Christian or conservative are cheap now days. Hope is not there anymore, it is on the other side.

Was watching another panel show and a “Republicans can replace with something better person” was asked “with what?” and he said ‘refundable tax credits instead of the mandate.”

So explain this to me, please. A favorite Republican line is “half the people don’t pay any income tax.”

So if you give them a refundable tax credit when they don’t pay income tax, do you give them a check? So you retain and expand the pool of people who don’t pay tax?

How do you pay for it, Republican replacers? Raise taxes on someone else. Cut which program? Or do you deficit fund it?

One good thing about this decision coming four months before the election, it gives plenty of opportunities for Republicans to get specific and watch their talking point papers end up looking like Swiss cheese.

“The United States already employs several forms of socialized medicine. The Veteran’s Administration healthcare system is one example; veterans can take advantage of the healthcare offered by the system, as long as they see only VA doctors in VA facilities.

Even HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) are socialized, although not always by the government. If a patient participates in an HMO, then the HMO tells them which doctors they can see and which facilities they must access for care. This is true for private HMOs, such as the Kaiser system in California. It’s also true for Tricare, which is a U.S. government healthcare organization used by military families and retired military.”

The beauty to America’s credit is the rating of CNN are going down. They had to remove King to a average reporting job, or did they? When watching the news is turning into a cross word puzzle it is not serving it’s purpose. I even wonder if Wolf Blitzer is his real name, or his acting name.

godless heathen “I’m saying that ACA is going to cost a lot of $$$ that the government doesn’t have.”

Take it from the DOD. We have more than enough money to police the world.

Why did Matt Davis say it started with Woodrow Wilson? Wasn’t Teddy Roosevelt considered a progressive, and didn’t he do a lot to expand government? And there was wrongful government interference and control even before the Civil War (e.g. tariffs).

Freedom and the Constitution are dying the death of a thousand cuts, or maybe that should be a million or a billion. It’s a very slow process, and they aren’t dead yet.

In the extremely surprising event that any of the above are thrown in jail for saying what they said, then it would be time to ask if armed rebellion is justified.

Jay, there was a show on last night (I believe it was CNN) that had Dr Sanjay Gupta compare the healthcare systems in many countries including Taiwan and Switzerland. I am having problems finding a link. Can all those interested help find the link to the show?
It was very informative and shot down many of the myths/ alleged facts by many.

Road Scholar: Fareed Zakaria did something on that same subject. According to him. Taiwan did the study, and when he asked about America (pre-Obamacare) they said (paraphrased) “You look at America when you want to know how NOT to do health care.”

So Rush still hasn’t left the country (over ACA passing) and Sean still hasn’t been water-boarded. They are truly great Americans and they are not afraid to remind you of it.

If a tax solved the healthcare issue, maybe one will work for the employment issue as well.. Lets’ start with say, oh, how about 10,000.00 per head. Get a job or pay a penatly.

The Constitution protects all the people. It only changes as the people change. We allowed huge immigration because we needed labor and someone to do the work. We allowed slavery for the same purpose. In doing so we changed America’s make up. Now we want to freeze every thing to some previous point in time, to raise the walls of the classes, maybe even build a firewall between the poor and the rich by destroying the middle class. The genius of the Constitution is it doesn’t allow this convenience. Unlike the Church that allows divorce and much of it’s charter violated. or political bodies that sell out to big money, the Supreme Court has proven sacred. Only the selfish that didn’t get their way are looking for a fix. The rest of us live under it’s protection against those few.

If you include that in a law for job training and student grants, sure. Obviously it has to be smart or I won’t support it.

@Adam

How to best use the $$$ once raised is open discussion, I was more intrigued with the idea of using an a federally enforced significant tax (or penalty, call it what you will) to curtail self-destructive behavior.

Obama and co. said it wasn’t a tax when they were ramming it down Americas you know what, then they said it was a tax to save it, now they say it’s not a tax! I would have to agree with Sara Palin when she said “Obama lied”.

I would have to agree with Sara Palin when she said “Obama lied”.

And whether or not Obama (someone you haven’t voted for and have every intention of not voting for) lies or keeps promises you never supported – matters to you why?

Stop pretending like you care whether or not he lied. You only wish he had called it a tax so that your propaganda machine could have taken it down from the beginning. You can’t rewrite history.

Good morning fellow americans…the republic is still standing and despite the desperate rantings of some that the sky is falling, here comes another 4th of july as we move toward another pivotal election. Really, all you naysayers and fainting couch residents – get a grip!!! Enjoy the celebrations, freedom is as strong as ever, it’s just more expensive…
