Obama offers temporary reprieve to young illegal immigrants

It’s not the DREAM Act, which would give permanent residence — and a later chance for citizenship to illegal immigrants who were brought here as young children, who graduate from U.S. high schools and who earn a college degree or serve in the U.S. military.

But as the Associated Press reports, it is a step in that direction:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.

The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation…

“”Many of these young people have already contributed to our country in significant ways,” (Homeland Security Director Janet) Napolitano wrote in a memorandum describing the administration’s action. “Prosecutorial discretion, which is used in so many other areas, is especially justified here.”

Jessica Colotl

Jessica Colotl

The plan does not create a path to citizenship nor does it confer permanent residency, because both steps would require changes in U.S. law. It is also likely that under a Republican administration, the policy would be reversed.

But it will prevent, for the time being, the deportation of young people such as Jessica Colotl, the young illegal immigrant who was allowed to graduate from Kennesaw State University. An effort to ban illegal immigrants from all Georgia public colleges failed in the Legislature this year. State policy already bars illegal immigrants from admission to Georgia colleges with competitive admission requirements.

The thing I’ve never understood about the whole Monica Lewinsky episode is why the evidence that the special prosecutor had wasn’t subject to disclosure. In both civil and criminal proceedings, both sides are required to disclose all evidence and witnesses that are likely to be presented as well as possible witnesses and evidence. The nature of the evidence is also subject to disclosure. The reason for this is obvious, so that neither side will be unprepared to address that evidence. It works for both the prosecution and the defense. So why wasn’t Clinton told that they had that information on Lewinsky if not to cause a “gotcha” moment for the President?

Clearly we need a new approach. Enter Rubio. The Cuban-American GOP rock star and potential GOP vice presidential nominee is floating the idea of a modified DREAM Act that would keep undocumented immigrant students from being deported by giving them legal status in the form of a student visa followed by a work visa.

Of course I vote every time the doors are open for me to vote. With that said, unless you are in a so called “swing state”, our vote wont mean much in terms of the Presidential election.

This state is a “lock’ as are certain states for both candidates. Either candidate will pay us much attention outside of a few fundraisers. We will see their commercials and of course the Super Pac commercials via national channels, but not much on the local ones. No need to spend much money when it is the “bag”.

Here is how “Americans” can get more jobs: American companies need to stop outsourcing jobs overseas. Bring back vocational and technical training at the high school level, and start teaching Americans how to make and repair things with their hands. Stop living in the dream that everyone in this country needs or is prepared to go to college. That way “Americans” will start becoming more producers and less consumers. That way illegal or legal immigrants will not get hired to do jobs that “Americans” can’t or won’t do. It’s that simple… or is it?

Butch Cassidy @ 11:42 am – While your comments were an attempt to be humorous
I will agree that your that they were true and correct.

This is exactly how we as African Americans were thought of many centuries and that same opinion still holds true to a small minority of Americans to this day. Thankfully, over time the nations leaders came to realize and truly understand that this particular mindset was not appropriate, unacceptable, inhumane, abhorrent and a stain on this great Nations honor and belief system. The stain of the Institution of Slavery in this country will be forever a part of this country’s history and legacy.
The treatment by this nation of an entire Race of people, human beings (children of GOD) based on skin color alone demonstrates the inhumanity of a people that will be
recorded in the record of Man until his extinction and beyond. This is a stain on this Great Nation that no matter how Great and wonder it is and becomes that this awful
act of inhumanity will be remembered always. May the screams of the many souls of those perished under such horrific treatment follow you and your thoughts until the day you draw your very last breath on this earth. I will pray that you never receive a quiets night of sleep without hearing their screams.

In many ways, presidential executive orders are similar to written orders, or instructions issued by the president of a corporation to its department heads or directors.

Thirty days after being published in the Federal Register, executive orders become law. While they do bypass the U.S. Congress and the standard legislative law making process, no part of an executive order may direct the agencies to conduct illegal or unconstitutional activities.

HOWEVER THE PARENTS CAN BE DEPORTED, AS THEY ARE STILL ILLEGAL. INTERESTING ENOUGH, THROUGH PROCESSING THE PARENTS OF THE STUDENTS WOULD BE REVEALED AND ICE CAN DETAIN AND DEPORT. NOT TO FORGET THAT THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN CHILDREN WILL SUFFER, AS THESE FOREIGN NATIONAL KIDS ARE ISSUED 800 THOUSANDS VISAS.

The Obama administration is passing laws by decree now, without any oversight and not being addressed by the House of Representatives. I thought this type of enacting policies as this, was for the dictatorships of the world? This is AMNESTY by any other name and will generate a firestorm amongst Independents voters as me, explicitly the TEA PARTY? I guess the Obama government sees themselves above the “rule of Law.” Obviously this is a political push for the children of foreign nationals and certainly performed on behalf of the majority ethnic population? Is this another bloated fraud policy, as seen in the 1986 Immigration Control and Reform Act. With the possibility of a work visa, they will be able to apply for taxpayer’s money for enrollment in colleges. THIS IS BILLIONS MORE DOLLARS TO THE STRAINED FINANCES FOR EDUCATION AND FURTHERANCE OF EVEN MORE PENDING MASSIVE CHAIN MIGRATION; AT LEAST THE PARENTS CAN BE DEPORTED FOR BREAKING IMMIGRATION LAWS? Democrats have always been generous with other people’s money, so it is very scary wondering what’s next in their agenda of their ‘Political Correctness’? Without any contradiction this is a means to gain millions of extra votes from persons already here, including non-citizens? This has clearly been shown by the Obama Dept of IN-Justice suing Florida, for ethically doing the correct thing of erasing non citizens from the election rolls.

If you want to read the truth about the lawlessness and carnage along the border, then bookmark the ‘AMERICAN PATROL’ website. Investigate other headlines today such as ‘Catch and release for low-priority illegal’s proposed — Border agency’s secret draft policy includes ‘prosecutorial discretion’, Obama implements DREAM amnesty by executive fiat!, The Fast and Furious scandal , Reporter heckles Obama during speech declaring sell-out of U.S. workers, Obama regime to help illegal’s, LA Mayor Villaraigosa delighted over Obama’s outrageous decree, Rep. In fact, it’s really too bad we can’t trade some of the people here now whose citizenship was the result of a mere accident of birth and who don’t have much to contribute. You have to wonder why Big Labor doesn’t complain though. Maybe it’s just because they’re not interested in the welfare of the native labor force so much as their access to the native labor force.

Pure calculated poltical pandering, timed to head Rubio’s proposals off at the pass, and more importantly to do “something” – “anything” to assuage the growing anger of the majority of increasingly disaffected Hispanics who voted for him in 2008. Yes, we need reform to deal with these situations – no argument there from most Pub/Cons, but it should be reform passed by Congress – not based on the misuse of prosecutorial discretion orderd by the president.

Keep in mind that this is not an executive order, because an executive order that is clearly and blatantly against standing federal law (as this is) is not enforceable and would be immediately and successfully challenged in the courts. This is being whitewashed as “prosecutorial discretion” but never in our history has a blanket, back door amnesty from prosecution been ordered by a President (in violation of his oath of office) for a certain group of class of people who have broken federal law. The fact that it is blatant political pandering just makes it that much worse. This could still be over turned in a court challenge.

Pelosi cries “Republican obstructionism!” Really? During the first two years of his term, when Congress was controlled by the Dems, Obama did not propose anything — that means he proposed NOTHING — to Congress regarding immigration reform, nor has he done so since. He must think that would be like proposing and passing an annual budget, which clearly not a priority or a necessity in his view. And Nancy Pelosi, who is not the sharpest pencil in the box, apparently doesn’t realize that you cannot obstruct legislation that has not yet been proposed. Unlike Obamacare, he never even bothered to call immigration reform in to Congress i from the golf course or whatever nation he and Michelle were off sight seeing in. So he does what he lives to do — take the easy way with naked poltical pandering, disguised as “compassion” — and as has always been the case time and again the last three plus years, as a substitution for some much needed leadership on tough issues — which we will never see as long as he remains president.

Pub/Cons have grown weary of being labled incompassionate and racist, etc. just because we think the nation should have immigration laws and foreign nationals should not just be allowed to walk in here and settle down. Yes, because this illegal activity has not been prohibited and the laws properly enforced, we need reasonabl reform passed by Congress, and not decreed by someone on the political hot seat, and a clear path to citizenship, requiring some time and effort and patience of those who demonstrate that they clearly want to become American citizens, and not just foreign nationals, loyal to their home land, and just sucking out the best America has to offer. Since the Hispanic vote is in the pocket of the Dem/Libs anyway, hopefully, this pandering will not be that significant this November.

King Roy Barnes often ignored the law and the opposing party when it benefited him………. booted out in a landslide after one term. Now we have King Obama. If you don’t like the law change the law don’t ignore the law. A class action suit lawyer President should be a better example – I’m ashamed to call him President.
