Hillary: Russia arming Syria with attack ‘copters

One would assume that a player of Hillary Clinton’s experience would not make such a public charge unless she had considerable confidence that it was true and that she was prepared for the blowback it might create.

That said, from the New York Times:

“The Syria conflict fell deeper into crisis Tuesday as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton publicly accused Russia of supplying attack helicopters to the Syrian government.

Her accusation came as international cease-fire monitors in Syria aborted a fact-finding trip after they came under assault by an angry mob and gunfire, and the top United Nations peacekeeping official said Syria was already in a state of civil war.

Those developments — coupled with a newly released United Nations report that accused the Syrian military of using Syrians as young as 8 as human shields for troops — overshadowed fresh diplomatic efforts by Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria, to advance a peace plan that that has basically been ignored since it was put into effect two months ago….

Russia has repeatedly denied sending any armaments to Mr. Assad that could be used to crush the uprising against him. But Mrs. Clinton said the United States was “concerned about the latest information we have that there are attack helicopters on their way from Russia to Syria.” The shipments, she warned, “would escalate the conflict quite dramatically.” “

The Russians have been the primary obstacle to a more aggressive U.N.-led effort to remove the Syrian leadership. However, it is one thing to serve as diplomatic cover for the mass killings being carried out in Syria; it is another to provide the Syrian government with the weapons needed to conduct such massacres on an even larger scale.

And of course, all such things in the Middle East are not merely connected but hopelessly intertwined. Russian cooperation in the U.N. and elsewhere is essential in putting pressure on Iran to abandon its nuclear program. Iran and Syria are allies in supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon. And while the Syrian regime has been brutal in attempting to suppress the uprising of its own people, those likely to take power should the current Assad dictatorship topple are likely to be brutal in turn to Syria’s Christian and Alawite minorities.

Some problems can at best be managed, not solved, and at the moment Syria is probably the best example of such a situation.

Muslims killing Muslims. What’s the down side? All this illustrates is that if there are no Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Druids, atheists, or agnostics to kill, Muslims will kill each other. The best course of action is to leave them alone as long as they don’t attack us and let them do what comes naturally. You can’t convert snakes to vegetarianism or Muslims to nonviolence. As Art Buchwald observed, a moderate Muslim is one who has run out of ammunition. The most ridiculous thing Dubya ever said was “Islam is the Religion of Peace.” Sure and I’m The Grand Duchess Anastasia.

Mick–Heed my words: Obama is toast. The election numbers may be somewhat close due to Romney being a weak candidate, but there’s no way in heck that the average American wants 4 more years of this celeb wannabe.

Thin Guy–Bush said what he had to say to remain Presidential. Actions are what count, and I don’t think Bush’s actions showed him to be much of a supporter of radical Islamists. With the exception of our Wahhabist Saudi buddies, of course. Don’t know about you, but I cant wait for the development of some cost-effective alternative fuels. Nothing would please me more that to see the Saudis try to eat their worthless oil.

Mick,

Wear the t-shirt if you must but my feeling is that people will just give you strange looks as if you’re an idiot. And don’t wear it at places that serve alcohol. Politics, religion, and alcohol don’t mix and wearing an O t-shirt in the bar says 2 things. 1- It tells women you are a loser 2- It tells men you may want your ass kicked.

And as far as the national debt goes the fact is that we count a president’s debt from the day he walks into office. That’s the way its always been sir even if the 09 budget was made 3 months before he came into office. Secondly, even if we gave O a mulligan on the 09 budge the amount of debt he has run up in the other 3 years is staggering.

Thirdly and most importantly lets say for the sake of argument that Romney wins. The fiscal 2013 budget deficit will be done under O but if we go by your way of reckoning things Romney will inherit a huge deficit. And that deficit is going to be as big or maybe bigger than the one O inherited from W. So you can pick your poison sir and its a wash. Either give O credit for the 09 budget or give him credit for the 2013 budget if he does not win re-election. In either case whether you give him credit for the 09 or 2013 budget his deficit numbers are going to eclipse in 4 years what W did in 8.

Bruno,

I don’t know if we can do it but I do like the idea of partnering with Brazilian sugar cane gas if what they produce can feasibly help us to a great deal. Could be a boon also if other latin and Carribbean nations could also supply sugar cane powered fuel to us. It would be great for our hemisphere and for some of the poorer nations in it.

Nope. Take a look at that upped baseline going back to the stimulus and that bogus, discredited Nutter article from marketwatch. Then compare spending going forward from 2008 and the previous couple years. The difference in spending between now and just 4-6 years ago is staggering.

Mick, you one baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad man you are. Seriously though glad to see you can defend yourself. You may need it if you wear that T-shirt.

“Please, please itemize what obama has spent.”

Mick its in the budget.

“If he didn’t spend one red cent the carry over from the bush years would have been another two trillion and you know it.”

So now its the W year(s) as in plural that are unfairly being attributed to O? And here we just thought it was 09 that you had an issue with.

” TARP? Bush or obama?”- Both. But be careful on this one since Tarp started under W but since you guys like to routinely credit God- um, I mean Obama, with saving the economy.

” Stimulus – definitely obama, now what else besides wars that were ongoing?”

We’re not fighting a war in Iraq anymore. Haven’t been for almost a year now. So how does that figure into the projected 2013 deficit?

And as I said Mick if you really just want the truth just look at the staggering difference in spending between say 05 and 08 vs 09 through 2012. And as JKL2 pointed out that is before the enormous expense of Obamacare will kick in. And I am curious if Romney wins and if Obamacare is running up enormous deficits if you are going to be consistent and credit O with the debts being caused by Obamacare. Something tells me you won’t.

Bruno,

It was embarrassing to see Jay try and defend the Nutter nonsense. But here’s what’s interesting. In the same breath the man will tell me that any honest discussion of the Obama debt numbers means that the 09 deficit should be attributed to W since the 09 budget was done 3 months before O came in. You see the problem here?

Mick,

Nope. I will just ask for consistency. Give O credit for either the 09 or the 2013 budget deficits. You can’t say he’s only responsible for 3 years of deficits. And likewise if you are going to give O a pass with problems and spending that began under W then likewise you must attribute some of Romney’s debt to programs and spending started under O. Just asking for consistency Mick. But seriously you really should just stop and take a look at spending from say 05 through 08 and then look at spending from 09 through 2012. Its an enormous difference Mick. Regardless of who you attribute 09 to you can’t attribute the rest of O’s tenure to W. It doesn’t work that way- especially since the excuse of Iraq war spending is no longer valid.

If you would ever dig a little deeper on the “racism” charge, you might understand that there are just as many (if not more) racists on the Dem side as there are on the Repub side. Lib racism is simply more covert than Con racism, hiding itself in “benevolent” paternalism and celebration of achievement based on nothing more than the color of one’s skin.

Those making sarcastic remarks about Obama’s handling of the Syrian situation have short memories. American involvement in the middle east has nearly bankrupted this country and cost thousands of young lives and tens of thousands of wounded, dismembered and disable — and to no avail.

It’s a tragic situation, but we have no business unilaterally getiting involved in this mess. This is just another example of chicken hawks stirring the pot while someone else pays the ultimate sacrifices.

Latino 2012: More Potential Latino Voters in 8 States Than Margin Of Victory In 2008

June 13th, 2012

The Latino vote has been referred to as the “sleeping giant.” That’s because millions of Latinos are eligible to vote but have not yet registered. If they register and show up to the polls, that awoken giant could determine the 2012 presidential election.

In fact, in eight states, the number of potential Latino voters is greater than the margin of victory in the 2008 presidential election, according to an infographic released by the Center for American Progress Tuesday.

California’s nearly 4.5 million potential Latino voters surpass by four times the one million voters that were the margin of victory in the 2008 presidential election, according to CAP.
