The evidence continues to mount; the willful blindness to its consequences continues to keep pace.
From the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s newly released national climate overview:
“The national temperature of 57.1 degrees F during spring was 5.2 degrees F above the long-term average, besting the previous warmest spring of 1910 by 2.0 degrees F.
This marked the largest temperature departure from average of any season on record for the contiguous United States. The spring of 2012 was the culmination of the warmest March, third warmest April, and second warmest May. This marks the first time that all three months during the spring season ranked among the ten warmest, since records began in 1895
January-May was the warmest such period on record for the contiguous United States, with an average temperature of 49.2 degrees F, 5.0 degrees F above the long-term average….
The June 2011-May 2012 period was the warmest 12-month period of any 12 months on record for the contiguous United States. The nationally-averaged temperature of 56.0 degrees F was 3.2 degrees F above the long-term average, surpassing the previous record, set last month (May 2011-April 2012), by 0.4 degrees F. The 12-month period encapsulated the second warmest summer, fourth warmest winter, and the warmest spring on record. Every state across the contiguous U.S. had warmer than average temperatures for the period, except Washington, which was near normal.”
It’s not just the fact that new temperature records are being broken; what’s astonishing is the amount by which records are now being broken. For example, the chart below includes annual January-May temperature data for Atlanta going back all the way to 1929. You can see the normal range of temperatures, and you can also that the deep red line — representing the record year of 2012 — is far outside the norm.
More than 30 years ago, when scientists first began to warn us that this would happen, skepticism might have been understandable. However, that skepticism should be much harder to sustain given the fact that ever since then, climate events have been playing out pretty much as they predicted.
But hey, I guess it really isn’t happening if we refuse to see it, right?

Why is it we conveniently talk about US warming when it suits the narrative and global warming when that suits the narrative. The simple fact is that yes the US has been warmer THIS SPRING, but global temperatures this spring have been lower than in many recent years. Jay did the exact same type of article last summer with all the US cities that hit record highs.
Most of you, Jay included, would be very quick to jump all over anyone pointing out record lows in a given area as being evidence against global warming but you expect a free pass when you do the same? It would be pretty funny if it wasn’t so hypocritical.

Someone mention rising sea levels. Between 1950 and 2009 global average sea level rose at an average rate of around 1.7 ± 0.3 mm per year. Sorry folks but that is hardly cause for alarm.
In 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projected that during the 21st century, sea level will rise another 18 to 59 cm (7.1 to 23 in). 7 to 23 inches max through the rest of the century? Sorry but I’m not impressed. And this is from the politically tainted IPCC report which is questionable and was written by politicians and not scientists.

Traditionally, pool season in ATL is Memorial Day to Labor Day. This and last year the water temps were cooler than normal indicating the earth’s temperature is lower than normal.
You will likely reply the data is to the contrary. If that’s true, it could be because too many of the temperature monitoring devices were placed too close to air conditioning condensers and/or large patches of concrete/asphalt rendering their readings skewed. There has been articles on same.
The bottom line is, the data is screwed and most people know it.

I understand every part of it, GT/MIT. Which is why I called it a lie, which it is.
Every single scientific association on the planet has issued a statement confirming that the climate is warming and that mankind is a significant contributor to the trend. Among active climatologists, 97 percent agree with both those statements. Your claim that “an equal number of eminent men of science” dispute the theory is true only of one small subgroup of scientists, petroleum geologists, who by definition have no training or expertise in atmospheric or climate science and who also have a very strong cultural and economic cause to believe as they do.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090119210532.htm
Now, if you have evidence substantiating your claim that equal numbers of scientists reject anthropomorphic climate change, please, let’s see it.
(Just a friendly piece of advice: Don’t rely on that bogus “Oregon petition” of supposed “scientists” such as Perry Mason, Dr. Michael J. Fox, Dr. Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice), John Grisham, etc. It will just make you look foolish.)

The current climate change has often been called “global warming” because the average mean temperature on the planet is increasing. But the effects on local climate are going to vary. Winters in some parts of the world will be colder, temperatures in other parts of the world will be much warmer, storms will become more frequent and severe, drought will become more widespread.
The facts are pouring in from all over the planet. The majority of people outside of the U.S. in the western world accept the fact that climate change is happening and that man very well is contributing to it. Unfortunately we have people like you who choose not to be educated or pull your head out of the sand.

And if last winter in Canada was the coldest on record, I’m sure those posting that claim will have no trouble citing a scientific source. What I’m finding says the opposite. For example, from the Canadian government:
“Forget merely balmy…March 2012 in Ontario was so warm, with so many records being set, that traditional trips south during March break seemed almost superfluous. It was the warmest March on record for many locations and, added to the previous mild months this winter, culminated in a record low snowfall total for the season for Toronto.
New marks were posted across the entire province for the highest mean temperatures, erasing marks that in some cases dated back to the 1940s. Differences from normal values ranged from 5.2 to 8.4°C. Differences to previous records were as high as the additional 3.4°C recorded in Wiarton…
Some extraordinary examples from this historic event, to convey a sense of its scale:
* It was unprecedented in its duration and scope. It affected all of Eastern Canada, from Manitoba to Nova Scotia, and lasted for upwards of 10 consecutive days. Windsor recorded a full 10 consecutive days of 20 degrees of more. Kitchener had eight days at, or over, 20°C.
* Altogether, close to 250 records were annihilated in Ontario alone, including those broken in a warm spell earlier in the month. It was undoubtedly a record for the most number of records set.
* The maximum temperature of 28.8°C reported in Petawawa on March 21 is the highest temperature ever recorded in Ontario in March.
Many locales surpassed their all-time highest temperatures for a single March day. Several locations even recorded their warmest March day, only to break that mark the next day with an even hotter temperature.”

Yep, when they did that big 180 from their predictions of the next Ice Age (mid-70’s). Most of us have heard of Chicken Little.
Back when the Earth was “cooling” people avoided living in the South because it was too hot. Then air conditioning became affordable and people flooded into the South, all while the earth is “warming” at such an alarming rate. People will adapt, goods and services will emerge in the free market to enable them to adapt. If the climate changes radically (like it does in the Sahara on a cyclical basis) people will migrate or in some cases – die.

In your link, meteorologists were listed as having as high a rate of skepticism as petroleum geologists. Would you say they also have no training or expertise in atmospheric or climate science?

I enjoy reading the con lies everyday, but here is a really good list of their lies.

Godless, perhaps you misread the link. The level of skepticism among meteorologists — while higher than in other groups — is NOT equal to that of petroleum geologists. And while meteorologists certainly are more familiar with the basics of atmospheric science than geologists, they are not climatologists.

“All the concrete buildings, and roads and parking lots made of asphalt doesn’t lead to global warming ?”
Who’s being silly here??? Do you have or regularly use a driveway, sidewalk, parking lot or street? Do you ever go to building downtown, or into a house? Are you in favor of the T-SPLOST, which will fund MORE contribution to global warming? Are you in favor of the Beltline? Marta/rail expansion? HOT lanes?
Come on now. People have to live, warming or not. People in a functioning society and economy will adapt, without controlling interference from Government.
To Jay (and others), global warming/climate change is not about solving a real problem, it’s about politicizing the issue to advantage their party and supporters. They create schemes (cap and trade, taxes and fees, transfer payments, ridiculous laws and regulations, more and more grant money to “study” the issue, funding for non-viable enterprises and favored supporters), not solutions (schemes vs. solutions, focus on that). Remember when water had to be drained from a near-empty Lake Lanier to keep some mussel alive?

Ban me please Bookman – Do me a favor – You are a bunch of liberal losers anyway. My intelligence can be insulted by your liberal friends but when I give it back to them you step in with censorship. The good news is your that socialist kind is coming to a fast end and freedom will ring.

DawgDad — “They create schemes (cap and trade”
Once again, this was originally a *Republican* idea. Don’t know why y’all hate it so much now, given that it’s one of those market-based solutions y’all say we need more of.

Then it won’t break your heart if you can’t post here any more.
Winning solution for all involved: take a hike, pal.
