Wall Street pay packages … well, you know what they did

According to an analysis from Bloomberg, CEO compensation for the nation’s 50 biggest financial companies “collectively rose by an average of 20.4 percent in 2011 — a year when most big banks and brokerages saw their revenues, profits and stock prices plummet. The 2011 pay rise followed a 26 percent increase in 2010 for CEOs who held the same job in both years …

“Overall, 33 of the 50 biggest financial companies had negative share returns in their 2011 fiscal years, as they were buffeted, particularly in the second half of the year, by a series of crises that froze the deal markets.”

So let me see if I’ve got this financial CEO gig figured out:

In a bad year in which you produce negative returns for your shareholders and most Americans are just happy to have a job, you increase your multi-million-dollar pay package by an average of 20 percent. Over a two-year period, your already extravagant compensation jumps a total of 50 percent on average.

And of course, all this follows a really really bad year, a historically bad year in which all the high-risk bets that you place go wrong and threaten to bring down the global economy. The collapse is so complete that the federal government is forced to come in and bail out your industry with hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars.

But do you feel the slightest bit chagrined or humble? Hell no. In fact, if the feds then try to insist on tighter regulations, telling you that they don’t want to have to bail out your sorry butts next time, you pout and whine about how you feel unappreciated and put-upon, and you then dump a few spare million into the campaigns of politicians who are willing to kiss your ring and tell you how wonderful you are.

Did I get that right?

I had an evening appointment and then hit the gym so I just got back a little while ago and just turned on the news. What an asskicking? Looks like Walker won by a full 10% points.

A year ago it looks like he was toast. But instead he did what he said he was going to do. He turned a 3.5 billion dollar deficit into a projected surplus, he added jobs, and while the unions took a haircut according to what the news was saying earlier their pay including benefits is still 20% greater than the average private sector worker. What’s not to like about Scott Walker?

Strike one for the forces of fiscal sanity and freedom. This is an omen for November. For whom does the bell toll? It tolls for you Mr. Obama. Let the conservative tidal wave begin.

Come on now. Its cultural in many places even for men to greet with a slight kiss on each cheek. Bowing shows submission, subserviance. The kiss greeting merely shows affection that a pleasant greeting normally conveys. And btw in Latin America its common for men to sometimes have their arms around each other’s shoulder in friendship. Doesn’t mean they’re gay- just good friends. And in some cultures men holding hands in friendship means nothing either. But a bow still means submission- particularly in Middle Eastern culture.

As for the Saudis being whisked after after 9/11 so what? What would you have preferred? That they stay? And why? What purpose would it have served for them to stay? And last of course why do you imply that there is something sneaky about getting them out of the country?

Please show me where the Constitution forbids unlimited donations.

“Right next to the part where it says impotent white men get to tell women what to do with their bodies, buy viagra at will, decide who gets married,”

The original founders of the Constitution were deeply religious men. How many of those men do you honestly think would have been in favor of abortion or gay marriage.

“and dupe wage laborers into thinking they’ll all be millionaires one day too, if they just pray hard enough and obey their masters.”

Countless men from modest means have become millionaires. Andrew Carnegie started off sweeping the warehouse floor. The world’s foremost brain surgeon- a black man, came from a poor background and a single mother who was completely illiterate. Now he is a multimillionaire. Herman Cain’s father was a freaking janitor and his mom a maid if I remember correctly. We could go on all night long with stories left and right about men from modest or poor backgrounds who became millionaires.
