There has long been something mysterious and untold about the story involving Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, U.S. Rep. Tom Graves and the failed hotel investment in North Georgia that they tried to shrug off onto a businessman with record fo financial troubles.
Some of those questions are answered in a well-told, well-researched and highly entertaining story at Jim Walls’ Atlanta Unfiltered website. It casts Rogers, a staunch and at times conspiratorial social conservative, in an entirely new light to say the least.
More than that I should not say, because it might spoil the story. If you have a few minutes over this beautiful holiday weekend, it’s highly recommended.

A “crime” is whatever the law says is illegal, period. In regards to the observation that most blacks voted for the president because he was black and not because hew as a Democrat, I wonder if a study could ever been done detailing how many whites including disaffected Republicans, independents, Libertarians, Tea Partiers etc, would have voted for Barack Obama had he been white (or at least sufficiently so.)

I’m not sure who the “victim” would be in that particular example, but the reasoning behind my answer is this. In order for a crime to take place, there has to be an act that has been declared illegal. That action would either be against a person or thing, even if it’s a self-inflicted action. In that aspect, there would have to be a “victim” in that the illegal action would have to be against something or someone. In your case, there wouldn’t really be a “victim” as it would be a case of two consenting people who are doing something that’s been deemed illegal. I get your point though, and would not argue against it.

There is no way out of the Swamp Josef. ALL of the swamps denizens are too self serving to ever give up anything, even if it destroys us. All we want to do is blame someone else who could take away what we want. What is truly ironic is that those that preach sacrifice “for the betterment of the whole” are not willing to sacrifice anything. The state that America is now in cannot be described by any political ideology other than self-greed and it transcends the rich and the poor as it is rampant amongst all of us. America can best be described now as nothing but a spoiled child who doesn’t want to give up any of their toys. Everyone wants something for nothing and our “leaders” are there to promise to deliver that to them even if it is a total lie.
I watched a movie this morning on the Independent Movie Channel titled “Idiocracy”. Seems to me we are already there. This silly, second rate film could one day become one of the most prophetic films ever made as to the state of our present day society. We don’t have to wait until 2050 or whatever. We are already there. The dumbing down has already been done and the pols are feasting on it.

Sorely needed in an era of milquetoast reporting and editorializing.
Some (many?) of these so-called conservatives running our state seem to have psychopathic tendencies. They will say or do anything for self-advancement. They wallow in hypocrisy. They care not a whit for the public good. They strongly believe the taxpayers and voters to be sheep, who exist only to be sheared over and over again, until there’s nothing left to steal.
If regular folks did what they do, they would be prosecuted or sued civilly to the limits of the law.
But apparently the good old boy system prevails, and they are untouchable.
We might as well be living in Russia or China.

As you know, I tend to be a lot more optimistic than you, but when it comes to education, I am probably much more the pessimist. I’ve been spending my first few days of “off time” looking back at what we used to require of our students. These three examples are from the 8-10-year-old examinations in the Natchez, Mississippi PUBLIC schools in the 1840s
Example 1: “A predication is an association of words, forming a complete proposition. The predications are divided into intransitive – intransitive post adjective – intransitive post substantive – transitive and passive.”
Example 2: “The prepositional gerundive phrases are divided into intransitive – intransitive post adjective – intransitive post substantive – transitive and passive.”
Example 3: “This youth was delighted with the prospect of becoming a farmer.” This is defined to be ‘an intransitive post-substantive prepositional gerundive phrase.’
The individual inspector reporting on it, felt compelled to remark:
This may be ‘easy Grammar,’ but it would seem enough to make a child of eight years old cry out ‘Help me, Cassius, or I sink!’
But found no cause to question the requirement.
I count my blessings every day I’m alive to have been educated by a turn of the last century schoolmarm Granny and a Harby educated Granddaddy who saw it as their duty to do what they could to hold back a new dark age.
Those in charge of our educational system today would not be passed out of the primary grades by those two…and rightly so…

First of all by teaching them those values. Will children drift? Of course because they like all of us fall to the temptation of worldly things but if taught in their formative years their conscience gives God the tool to guide them and that tool in the hands of God is very powerful.

Ah, Josef, I guess you got me there. Just semantics I guess, or different perspectives. My mom & her mom were ladies and nobody messed with them. I grew up with the injunction to be a lady, which translated to me: Never make waves, never say what you really think. But it was the 1940s & 50s. It took me a lot of years to get over that, to be able to assert myself & to speak up for myself. Of course, it didn’t help that I got the same message from the nuns & the church.
Okay, old stories & grievances. So let’s honor our military tomorrow, except for Ollie, of course. Sorry, just couldn’t resist!

U conservatives think Elizabeth Warren is done? Ha! She is going to beat Scott Brown and Gov Walker is going to lose his recall election in Wisconsin for daring to take on the Public Employee Unions!
I know Granny and the other sensible posters from the left are unified in theses opinions. Republicans will lose both those elections because liberals r always smarter than conservatives
