Legislators in New York have found the enemy, and that enemy is YOU.
Yes, you. Those of you sitting out there reading this and getting ready to respond anonymously in comments below. You are the problem, and they have the answer to that problem:

That’s right. Under bills filed in both the New York Senate and Assembly, it would no longer be legal for blogs, social media outlets, newspapers and other Internet outlets to allow anonymous commenting. All commenters would be required to post under their real name, and the blog administrator would be required to have on file the commenters’ home addresses, phone numbers and email address.
As Wired reports, Assemblyman Jim Conte defends the legislation as necessary to cut down on “mean-spirited and baseless political attacks.” The requirement would “turn the spotlight on cyberbullies by forcing them to reveal their identity.”
Thomas O’Mara, the Senate sponsor, believes it “help lend some accountability to the Internet age.”
Politicians wanting to make citizens accountable…. Isn’t that backwards?

Interesting that the Obummer is trying to sell that that bogus article written by Rex Nutting to divert attention from his dismal record.
Del–I read Jay’s lame attempt the other day to portray Obama as a frugal spender. I was ready to jump in but saw that a few conservative posters easily debunked his argument by pointing out that his chosen “baseline” spending from FY2008 was in fact not a reasonable baseline at all since it included a few one-time emergency budget items including TARP. Obviously Jay’s motivation is NOT to tell the whole truth.

The conventional Lib “wisdom” seems to be that Romney is a deeply flawed candidate who will easily be defeated by Obama. My gut tells me differently. Obama isn’t being straight with folks. Pointing fingers isn’t going to cut it next time around. We’re facing some very serious financial challenges right now, and we need someone with the courage and business sense to restore some fiscal sanity. I trust Romney far more than Obama to do what is needed.

TBS–Jay is a total hypocrite. He chastises bloggers for attacking others personally, then turns around and does the same to TD. He blasted Thulsa for playing the “But, But Obama card”, yet regularly plays the “But, But Bush” and “But, But Reagan” cards himself. When Jay does it, he’s merely providing “context”. When cons do it, they’re “deflecting”. Add to that his penchant for telling only half the story using skewed data/statistics, and it’s a wonder he has any intelligent readers at all.
The reason I’m so harsh on him is because Jay is a very smart man and appears to be good-hearted most of the time. As such, it’s hard to understand when he’s deliberately unfair.

DF–Great to see you also. You don’t have to look much beyond the stimulus spending, Cash for Clunkers, the GM bailout, first time home buyers program, 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, Medicaid/food stamps/disability for virtually anyone who applies, etc., etc. to find the “giveaway” programs. I don’t have time now to add it all up, but whatever amount all these programs contributed to the deficit is too much in my book. The bottom line is that there’s no way to spend your way out of debt. Obviously the decreased tax revenues are a large part of the problem. The Obama/Dem solution was to extend the Bush tax cut and throw in an extra 2% reduction in FICA taxes, all while blaming the Republicans.
My return challenge to you is to show me even one instance in which Obama either (1) increased revenue or (2) decreased spending while in office. I’ve issued that challenge many times here, but have yet to get an answer.

Well it ain’t much but you can’t do much by executive order which is all he can do without congress.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/federal-eye/post/white-house-launching-new-campaign-to-cut-waste/2011/06/12/AGn3JjSH_blog.html
He also proposed a spending freeze on discretionary spending with numerous exceptions but I’m not sure that it ever happened, probably because his budget was defeated.
Then there’s this.
President Obama managed “to get Congress to ax several programs that had bedeviled President George W. Bush for years….Mr. Obama was victorious in getting Congress to slash 24 programs and achieved some level of success in reducing nine other programs,” including the “F-22 Raptor program, ending the LORAN-C radio-based ship navigation system and culling a series of low-dollar education grants. In each of those cases, Mr. Obama succeeded in eliminating programs that Mr. Bush repeatedly failed to end.”
It’s still not a ton of money but it’s more than you asked for. As for the GM bailout, we’ve gotten 13 billion back so far by selling a portion of the stock the government owns, more to come. The TARP also ended up costing much less than the $700 billion that was originally approved. From the NYT
“The Treasury never tapped the full $700 billion. By the time its authority to spend the money expired on Oct. 2, 2010, it had committed $470 billion and disbursed $387 billion, mostly to hundreds of banks and later to A.I.G., the car industry — Chrysler, General Motors, the G.M. financing company and suppliers — and to what has been, so far, a failed effort to help homeowners avoid foreclosures.”
