Well, it’s a real bummer when you see somebody that died and was born after you. After all the fame this woman got, maybe I shouldn’t worry about becoming a teeny minority when all those Black and Brown kids grow up. I probly won’t live long enough, but if I do, I sure hope they make lots of brown makeup. It’s going to take a ton of it after I kiss all those Black and Brown butts.

So we’ve lost two great singers in Whitney Houston and Donna Summer, and if Roberta Flack up and dies I’m just packing it in and letting somebody else haul the booze for the drunks. I mean, is this all you get for pleasing millions of people—dead?

gh @ 3.47, meh.

I used to be receptive to such sentiments, as I embraced punk at the time disco was at its height in ’77-’78.

It took me awhile to figure out that disco wasn’t the enemy; corporate co-opting of underground culture was.

Good music is, and always will be, good music.

Anyway, as I said downstairs–here’s hoping her passing was peaceful.

Donna Summer truly was a great talent. Getting puffed up and listening to MacArthur Park with my best friend is a great memory. People always say that the 70’s was the most screwed up decade ever. I don’t subscribe to that. Imagine this scenario: Deep South Georgia in 1974 and white kids in a small rural town were hanging out with black kids. Shocking, isn’t it? We had two black guys in our “rock band” who to this day I still stay in touch with. And they were good too. Rockers, not disco. They hung out with us and we “partied” together. “Heavily” partied, if you know what I mean. One of them was an elected “superlative” (in high school yearbook jargon). I wasn’t, but who cares? WE HAD FUN. That is why when I hear the liberals talk about the racist south I laugh. Those that say it are pretty much ignorant of what we that are trully from the south are all about. We have lived with and worked beside blacks for far longer than most anyone else in this country. And in many of cases, we were just as poor as the blacks so we had a lot in common. As for Donna Summer, she was very good. I must confess I never liked disco and I never will as I am a lifelong rock person.

Keith Moon, Amvet. No percussionist has ever been able to touch him and his talent. Not even John Bonham who I greatly admire (the king of heavy bass drum). As for Entwistle, the Who would have not existed without the rythym section provided by both him and Moon.

Yep josef, what people don’t know and we didn’t try to hide it. Why should we? Nobody really cared because all of us were pretty much in the same situation. Now, we are divided again by politicians looking for “a base”. And of course, the journalists and the 24 hour “news” networks wanting to make a living by dividing us even more. How in the hell did we get here? In the end, there are those that want to get by trying to work and do the right thing and there are those that want to get by contributing nothing. Therein lies the rub. Some politicians depend upon one half and others depend on the other. And if things continue as they are, none of us are going to have anything but misery. Especially the young people today. I feel very sorry for them. They are going to suffer for the sins of their parents, so to speak. The deficit is their destroyer.

Cancer claims another one

And will claim more. It’s sneaky stuff. You feel OK—no symptoms except a little dizziness in the morning. Then an annual check-up reveals lumps in the neck and the arm pits. A biopsy reveals lymphoma, and a scan reveals Stage 3. I wouldn’t wish chemotherapy on anybody, but it’s an alternative our ancestors didn’t have. I needed two separate blood transfusions to overcome the severe anemia the chemicals caused. And Ms. Summer never really had that option. Lung cancer, which she reportedly had, works fast and in deadly fashion, particularly the small-cell variety. If cancer was of a single type, perhaps we’d have an antidote. But there are dozens of types—almost 100 for lymphoma alone.
