Laughably, GOP wants to blame divisiveness on Obama
“Republicans are seeking to portray President Obama as the divider-in-chief, arguing the presidential candidate who trumpeted hope and change four years ago is now running an increasingly negative campaign.
Their chief argument is that Obama’s attacks on the wealthy are meant to incite class warfare and a heightened us-versus-them mentality never seen before in present-day politics.
But Republicans also point to Democrats’ “war on women” and the contraception mandate in Obama’s healthcare law, which they argue is an attack on religious freedom.
Even the lead-up to the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden over the last week was used by a sharp-elbowed Obama to divide the nation, Republicans say.”
Politically speaking, it’s a smart if cynical strategy. Millions of Americans are indeed worried about how divisive our debate and rhetoric have become, and how difficult it has become to reach compromise. They understand at a gut level that it’s an unhealthy state of affairs, and that if allowed to fester it could threaten the nation’s long-term security, prosperity and unity.
Among Republicans, the fact that the divisiveness is almost entirely their own creation doesn’t faze them in the least. Like a spouse abuser who blames his violence on his victim, the Republican Party hopes to blame the whole mess all on Obama.
The truth is, Obama infuriates the Republicans simply by waking up as president each morning. Under the rubric of “taking our country back,” they have challenged his status as an American, they have impugned his faith and they have even questioned his loyalty and patriotism. From the very beginning, they have pursued a conscious strategy of refusing to compromise in any way whatsoever, to the point that they have purged any in their own camp who dare to even suggest such a course. There is no better illustration of that dynamic than what happened with the health-care debate.
When he came into office, Obama abandoned the more liberal public-option approach to health insurance that he had campaigned upon in the ‘08 race. Instead, he embraced an approach that had been pioneered by a Republican governor in Massachusetts, that had been championed for almost a decade by a former Republican speaker of the House from Georgia and that had been created by the most important conservative think tank in Washington.
But what was his reward for seeking common ground? Instead of winning bipartisan support through his embrace of the health-care mandate, Obama found himself condemned as a socialist who was out to undermine the foundation of American society. And that pattern has held throughout the course of his presidency.
Even then, it took Obama a while to come to the realization that no matter what he did, there would be no compromise. The only thing that his opponents wanted from him was his surrender and then his disappearance. That was their price for “unity,” and now they want to blame him for refusing to pay it.

There are none to very few homosexual troopers in special operations. I guess that’s understandable, however, I don’t understand why we don’t have at least a population percentage representation of Blacks in special ops.

Josef- Well, I for one have a serious problem with quotas, coming as I do from a classification where quotas were used to limit the number let in..
I understand, but in this case it is letting in unqualified people because someone who has never served in the military thinks it would be “neat” if we matched the population demographics (in spite of what the actual makeup of the service is or job qualifications.)

Yes. JKL2 and I were talking about that. Its kind of a mystery. JKL2 attributes it to lower education levels and some physical attributes. In the Navy and Marine Corps it could bring up another sterotype that a lot of black men don’t swim well. Incidentally the marine corps has a good recruiting commerical on tv about a black marine who had fears of swimming and overcame them to become a special ops operator. It starts out with him on the high dive platform. Still doesn’t explain the lack of blacks in army special forces like rangers and green berets.

Should the military you served in or still serve in check all medals to determine what JKL2s criteria is in terms of what they earned and how they earned it?
They call it AR 600-8-22.
I will say they get a little carried away will timelines. We have some people come work for us that we have to submit a medal request before they actually start working in order to get it approved before they leave.
I guess it would be the equivalent to giving obama a Nobel after two weeks on the job.

Doomy, when I was in Marine Corps Infantry and later Recon we were all ass hole to elbow together in the $hit and I don’t think there was anyone who was even considered as gay. Doesn’t mean there wasn’t but our Corps I don’t think was all that attractive to those who were sexually attracted to the same sex.

Do what you want. Just don’t take the tax deduction/benefits for starting a family when it is physically impossible for the two of you to make a baby. If your company what’s to give them to you as an additional benefit, that is their right(not a right from God) Otherwise, there are already laws on the books that cover any other scenario you can come up with.
I have gay brother-in-law. None on my side of the family.
PS: I use the term gay because that’s the term I’ve used for 46 years. Kind of like black or indian. I use them because my black friends say they are “black” and my indian friends say they are “indians”. I’m embarrassed using Afrincan-American since many couldn’t point out Africa on a map, and have as much of a connection to the continent as I do.

Don’t forget,
I haven’t seen any cons on here who don’t acknowledge that it was a mess when O came in. But the recession ended 6 months into office for him and jobs losses had bottomed out the month he came in.
Contrast that with Reagan who inherited a mess that consisted of 21 % interest rates and 15% inflation and a declining economy- stagflation. The fed induced recession lasted his first full 2 years and didn’t end until November of 82. And then 7 months later the economy was hummming along at a 7% growth rate and the rest is history. The man didn’t spend the first 4 years in office blaming atms, his predecessor, an earthquake, a tsunami, the Arag spring,etc.
Economic history is right there for anyone to observe going back 100 years. The deeper a recession the stronger and broader the recovery according to history. This is the only recovery we have had where that has not applied. The excuse well has run dry.

Why is it that Clinton could work with Newt to balance a budget and reform welfare but Obama can not work with the crybaby speaker to get anything done? Could it be because Obama has zero leadership ability? He was run over by Nancy and Harry his first two years and just took credit for Obamacare and the stimulus.

Next time Leon Panetta calls and asks my advice, I’ll let you know.
Nothing I haven’t earned, several I’ve earned I never got. Didn’t get a CAB because I wasn’t authorized to be where I was.(everyone else there got one) My counterpart I traveled with for 6.5 out of his 7 months in country got a bronze star while I got nothing (he had a better chain of command).
I don’t do it for the awards, but on the other hand I hate standing there watching others get awards we both know they didn’t earn because their leaders where good at paperwork and mine weren’t.
Dying fighting to save others is one thing. Jumping on a hand grenade is something else. That’s more like a Silver Star to me.

To be fair on no 1 and 2 no U.S. president no matter how much they disagree with Israel is going to cut aid to them- especially in an election year. And on top of that a lot of those contracts and committments were probably worked out years in advance.
On no. 3 none of us really knows the degree of cooperation between us and Israel in intelligence matters currently. We just aint privy to that.

Jay, do you ever listen to Obama? He accuses the Republicans of trying to weaken the country, of not being “one of us” and that anybody who doesn’t agree with him is disloyal or dishonest. And yes, that type of behavior from a President is very new and very dangerous. He doesn’t understand he is the President of all the people, not just people who agree with him (i.e. the left wing of the Democratic party). He talks a good game about compromise and then refuses to and attacks anyone who doesn’t do things his way. We’ve never had anyone who so totally failed to understand the job. If it was Biden or Reid or Pelosi talking that way, that would be one thing. But this is the “divider in chief.”

When have I used personal attacks against bloggers? There is a huge difference between the word savage and the in the gutter attacks you exhibited.
As far as his claim, I can neither defend it or deny it because we really do not know. We do know that the leadership in Israel does not seem to be happy with the way they have been treated by this administration because they have gone public. You were correct that we have not reduced aid to Israel. The rest of the argument is really a guess on both parties.
