Laughably, GOP wants to blame divisiveness on Obama
“Republicans are seeking to portray President Obama as the divider-in-chief, arguing the presidential candidate who trumpeted hope and change four years ago is now running an increasingly negative campaign.
Their chief argument is that Obama’s attacks on the wealthy are meant to incite class warfare and a heightened us-versus-them mentality never seen before in present-day politics.
But Republicans also point to Democrats’ “war on women” and the contraception mandate in Obama’s healthcare law, which they argue is an attack on religious freedom.
Even the lead-up to the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden over the last week was used by a sharp-elbowed Obama to divide the nation, Republicans say.”
Politically speaking, it’s a smart if cynical strategy. Millions of Americans are indeed worried about how divisive our debate and rhetoric have become, and how difficult it has become to reach compromise. They understand at a gut level that it’s an unhealthy state of affairs, and that if allowed to fester it could threaten the nation’s long-term security, prosperity and unity.
Among Republicans, the fact that the divisiveness is almost entirely their own creation doesn’t faze them in the least. Like a spouse abuser who blames his violence on his victim, the Republican Party hopes to blame the whole mess all on Obama.
The truth is, Obama infuriates the Republicans simply by waking up as president each morning. Under the rubric of “taking our country back,” they have challenged his status as an American, they have impugned his faith and they have even questioned his loyalty and patriotism. From the very beginning, they have pursued a conscious strategy of refusing to compromise in any way whatsoever, to the point that they have purged any in their own camp who dare to even suggest such a course. There is no better illustration of that dynamic than what happened with the health-care debate.
When he came into office, Obama abandoned the more liberal public-option approach to health insurance that he had campaigned upon in the ‘08 race. Instead, he embraced an approach that had been pioneered by a Republican governor in Massachusetts, that had been championed for almost a decade by a former Republican speaker of the House from Georgia and that had been created by the most important conservative think tank in Washington.
But what was his reward for seeking common ground? Instead of winning bipartisan support through his embrace of the health-care mandate, Obama found himself condemned as a socialist who was out to undermine the foundation of American society. And that pattern has held throughout the course of his presidency.
Even then, it took Obama a while to come to the realization that no matter what he did, there would be no compromise. The only thing that his opponents wanted from him was his surrender and then his disappearance. That was their price for “unity,” and now they want to blame him for refusing to pay it.

This column finally makes sense to me. At first i was trying to be rational, wondering how Jay could possibly advance such a ridiculous argument, so at variance with the facts. Then I realized that the White House polling has picked up that people believe that Obama is a divider and they sent the message to the loyal lapdogs to make a counter argument…no matter how silly it sounds. Once I could see this tripe as Jay’s slavish response to the commands of his masters, then it started to be strangely sensible.

The bible says treat the alien in your land as well as you would a native. Plain and simple.
But the downside is that I don’t know if they are doing jobs no American will do. Someone used to do construction, drywall, etc. before Messicans came. When I was growing up those were decent paying blue collar jobs for unskilled white and black labor. But lower paying labor has driven down labor for the lowest in our society by about 15% according to several studies I’ve seen. Their labor hurts the lowest on our totem pole.

Scout- Regarding Russian aircraft I’ll have to leave that to the experts
A guy back home had a Mig-29 for a couple years. (the Navy dumped it in the alantic for him). He said it would fly circles around anything we had. Problem was it doesn’t have the electronics and weapons to compete against us.
From just a flying standpoint, they were far superior.

I’ve seen the blue angels plenty. Went down there 2 years ago to a show and a demonstration in Pensacola and have seen them and the AF Thunderbirds a few times. Going to go to the beach Gulf Shores for a month and a half so I’ll probably take in a show if they are flying when I’m down there.

THat whole FAMU thing is just a damn tragedy along the likes of Trayvon. FAMU’s band is incredible and its a very competitive thing and it looks to me like the hazing just got way out of hand. But for that matter I’ve seen video of white sorority girls that had a brutal hazing beating the hell out of the new girls. Its not a race or class thing. . If you’ve ever seen a black college football game the bands are often the feature of the whole day. Its a big thing at HBCUs from what I’ve seen and especially at FAMU.

I think most conservative are for immigration. I, for one, have not understood why if any countries are to be given preferential treatment in this regard, why not our neighbors and allies Canada and Mexico? A viable guest worker program should have been implemented back in the 80s but then that may be expecting too much of the government until such time that we oust all of the self-serving “lords” in DC.

Damn. I didn’t know a girl’s leg was broke 3 weeks earlier. That shoulda alerted someone. SPeaking of special forces and PC I just read or heard can’t remember wherethat there was talk of lowering the standards for the SEALS because there are not enough African Americans in there or in the special forces in general. Its odd but when I was in the Navy I never saw any black seals and a buddy who is green beret told me the army special forces are only about 10% black even though the army is around 50% black. Don’t know why that is but I damn sure don’t want those standards lowered for anything or anybody. When you see discovery channel specials on the seasl and other elite units there just aren’t many if any black faces on those shows.

A Venezuelan lady in my mother’s church left Venezuela before Chavez took over. She will tell you that the US backed dude sucked. Well she decided as the economy was going down here to head back home with her son and take a chance with Chavez.
She went home. Well Chavez is not doing much better for the poor, who he convinced to back him because the US backed guy wasn’t doing anything to help their plight either
She couldn’t get a visa to go to Mexico, so she paid a “mule”
to help facilitate her and her son getting from Venezuela to the US / Mexican border…… took several border crossing and hiding in cars and trucks, etc
She crossed the border and took a bus Buford Highway. Not sure if you know but their is a company in the Atlanta area that takes illegals to and from Atlanta to the boarder several times a week……
She is back cleaning houses and damn happy to be here
I don’t know the answer either…….. but that is a story of determination and will…… no doubt in my mind

For me it is not about disrespect for a fellow human being as having a game plan and following it. I like to compare people’s views on things politically with how they might act when things are personal. So…say some homeless people took up residence, uninvited, in your home and while they did some things to help out here and there (like mow the law or take out the garbage), they were otherwise a net expense and hardship for you and your family. Would you think it would be heartless to ask them to leave or to call the police on them? It is just wrong. In many countries you would be imprisoned or killed for illegally entering it. Here’s an experiment: let’s offer free tickets to China for people. I wonder how many would take them? It is right to be firm morally about things, plain and simple. Yet I am ALL for creating a viable guest worker program for immigrants so we can benefit from them and they from us in a legal and satisfactory manner.

I know what Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Nicaraguans go through. They get shaken down and robbed by the Mexican army and police if they get caught at stop points and checkpoints. Happens to them routinely. And worse. Especially to women sometimes and of course young girls or women can be abducted and taken into the sex trade. And they sometimes get abandoned by coyotes, all kinds of bad crap with folks dying in the damn desert.

When I was recruiting 10 years ago they had a big push for Hispanics. They could get in with a 23 on the ASVAB because “it wasn’t their fault they dropped out of school” All they got for their effort was the ID of a bunch of illegal aliens
Blacks only make up about 4% of Special Forces. I would say it’s a combination of education and physical requirements needed for the job. I know it’s a stereotype, but I think more black athletes focus on just the sports and not the books. The qualifications tend to fit in with upper class whites better.
I’m sure the PC idiots will force it thru. Can’t wait for the “homosexual” quotas to pop up so we can “prove” we’re not discriminating.

Yes, I know gays in the Army. Never had a problem as long as they could do their job. It was the one’s who wanted to jump on their soap box and get kicked out on purpose I couldn’t stand. That also includes the one’s who faked “homosexuality” to get out.

I will throw in my $.02 but in a different direction than you would think. I would have never given this guy a MOH.
I remember watching a demonstration about dynamite once. place a stick on concrete and set it off. Hardly makes a scratch. Now place a bucket of cement on top of it. Four foot crater.
Grenades are rarely lethal. When you jump on top of one (become the bucket of cement), it is almost 100% effective. From the citation it even says he tried to get away first. While jumping on a grenade is a selfless act, and a great movie scene, it’s not an action I ever promote. Giving a man our highest award for committing what amounts to voluntary suicide is not something I would do.
I do appreciate his service and sacrifice to our country, but he died for those other five guys, not me.

60 minutes had a special on this years ago. A black marine who washed out of OCS was suing the corps for discrimination. It was weird but the Marine commandant the no. 1 guy, was being interviewed and was telling Ed Bradley that most of the black candidates would fail in compass navigation and rifle markssmanship. It was weird but the commandant sat there and told him he couldn’t explain why the black candidates couldnt navigate using a compass. They just couldn’t do it for some inexplicable reason and it was something the corp was trying to figure out but couldn’t. But they weren’t going to lower their standards.
As for gays in the military I don’t think hardly anyone gives a damn if they serve. The only issue I would have is the same as yours. Are we then going to have all the social engineering stuff- sensitivity training, quotas for advancement, separate accomodations such as separate showers, disciplining heterosexual soldiers should they say something that could be construed as offensive to the one gay in the outfit,etc. Let them serve but make it known they are there for the army, the army is not there to accomodate them.

Should the military you served in or still serve in check all medals to determine what JKL2s criteria is in terms of what they earned and how they earned it?

Oscar, when someone, anyone sets foot in an American Embassy it’s the same as setting foot on American soil and they’re protected accordingly. That’s international diplomatic protocal anywhere in the world where two nations agree to diplomatic relations. In this sad case our diplomats allowed the Chinese government to take charge of Chen who entered our embassy seeking our assistance. We abandoned him and his family. Unless there is some kind of agreement in the works with the Chinese government freeing Chen and his family, this will become a significant campaign issue.

I can’t speak for JKL2 but I think what a lot of us cons think is that we don’t really care if gays serve in the military. My point is that I just don’t want all sorts of special accomodations made for one group of people and what would be a very small minority at that. That’s all. Otherwise let them serve.
