Laughably, GOP wants to blame divisiveness on Obama

From The Hill:

“Republicans are seeking to portray President Obama as the divider-in-chief, arguing the presidential candidate who trumpeted hope and change four years ago is now running an increasingly negative campaign.

Their chief argument is that Obama’s attacks on the wealthy are meant to incite class warfare and a heightened us-versus-them mentality never seen before in present-day politics.

But Republicans also point to Democrats’ “war on women” and the contraception mandate in Obama’s healthcare law, which they argue is an attack on religious freedom.

Even the lead-up to the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden over the last week was used by a sharp-elbowed Obama to divide the nation, Republicans say.”

Politically speaking, it’s a smart if cynical strategy. Millions of Americans are indeed worried about how divisive our debate and rhetoric have become, and how difficult it has become to reach compromise. They understand at a gut level that it’s an unhealthy state of affairs, and that if allowed to fester it could threaten the nation’s long-term security, prosperity and unity.

Among Republicans, the fact that the divisiveness is almost entirely their own creation doesn’t faze them in the least. Like a spouse abuser who blames his violence on his victim, the Republican Party hopes to blame the whole mess all on Obama.

The truth is, Obama infuriates the Republicans simply by waking up as president each morning. Under the rubric of “taking our country back,” they have challenged his status as an American, they have impugned his faith and they have even questioned his loyalty and patriotism. From the very beginning, they have pursued a conscious strategy of refusing to compromise in any way whatsoever, to the point that they have purged any in their own camp who dare to even suggest such a course. (See Lugar, Richard)

There is no better illustration of that dynamic than what happened with the health-care debate.

When he came into office, Obama abandoned the more liberal public-option approach to health insurance that he had campaigned upon in the ‘08 race. Instead, he embraced an approach that had been pioneered by a Republican governor in Massachusetts, that had been championed for almost a decade by a former Republican speaker of the House from Georgia and that had been created by the most important conservative think tank in Washington.

But what was his reward for seeking common ground? Instead of winning bipartisan support through his embrace of the health-care mandate, Obama found himself condemned as a socialist who was out to undermine the foundation of American society. And that pattern has held throughout the course of his presidency.

Even then, it took Obama a while to come to the realization that no matter what he did, there would be no compromise. The only thing that his opponents wanted from him was his surrender and then his disappearance. That was their price for “unity,” and now they want to blame him for refusing to pay it.

“That said, he will choose his sources very carefully and will sometimes use cherrypicked data that supports his argument.”

Joe Mama,

I don’t know why you are engaging in dishonesty yet again. We’ve been over this umpteen times and yet you still engage in deception. When I used those stats to show the growth after the W tax custs I specifically used the data to show excxactly what happened when the tax cuts were fully implemented. In other words a specific set of purposely or in your words cherry picked data specifically to show what happened when the tax cuts were fully realized . It was that way on purpose to illustrate a point and with full disclosure. Why you continue to be dishonest about this in order to try and cast me in a bad light is beyond me.

Are you just mad that I busted you on the actual months of recession vs non recession months between O and W? If so you need to get over it. I was open and upfront in the use of that data to make a spedcific point and for you to continue to act as if it was dishonest is beneath contempt. Dispense with the dishonesty or just don’t bother talking to me anymore.

I just heard some economics professor say that since Obama took office in 2009, there are now over 2 million less jobs. That is 2 million jobs that are gone, vanished, never coming back. He said of course the unemployment numbers are going to drop because folks have dropped off the unemployment list, and just given up looking. This is his opinion, but I agree with him. He said that those folks will start looking again once the economy turns around, but he doesn’t see that happening during Obama’s term. The business sector is too nervous to start hiring folks because of the uncertainty of this Obama economy.

He also said that Obama knows that no president has ever been re-elected with the unemployment at 8% or higher. The numbers will start to drop as we get closer to November. He also said that the employment number that is reported always gets revised, and that number is always higher then what was reported, but the revised number never gets reported. This week, AP had the following headline, “US Applications for Unemployment Aid Drop Sharply”. The AP goes on to say that hiring COULD pick up in the coming months. Then ADP comes out and says that new jobs added were a “paltry” 119,000. The estimates were around 175,000 by the ‘experts’ in his administration.

Another AP headline states “AP Survey: Steady Job Gains to Sustain US Recovery.” What job gains are they talking about? What recovery are they talking about? The economy has grown at the slowest rate after a recession ever.

The media is in the back pocket of this administration. The folks that the left accuse of lying are actually reporting what is really happening, and thank God for them.

What a joke. The dems are in the business of labeling people based on income, race, gender, religion and sexual orientation. They love to divide Americans, make up fake “wars” and bolster envy and hatred… Then they make empty promises or hope and change, but NEVER deliver!

Haven’t you ever wondered why cities and states that have been run by liberal democrats for 40+ years are still the worst places to live? You’d think that in all that time, they’d have eliminated poverty, ended racism, and built the promised land… So, why hasn’t that happened? Maybe because their policies don’t work? Ever think of that?

Oh, you think they do? That’s what the socialists in the EU thought and now look at Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, etc… That’s the destiny of liberalism… It THAT your idea of the promised land?

Are you implying that there are companies who have known or projected demand that out paces their current capacity and they are not hiring or investing in infrastructure?

If this is the case at all, unless there are contractual requirements or some sort of propriety material or service required, why would the client stay with that company?

If there is no demand for said product or service that is another story, but I doubt that their are companies turning away good business because of who is in office

Not to put too fine a point on the semantics here, but by class warfare are you referring just to economic class? The reason I say that goes back to the Johnson-Nixon years when the society was polarized into two classes…the pros and the contras…not so much economic as ideological…

And I will grant that today’s polarization is much more ideological than economic…

This president has not offered one policy that will reduce the size of government, not one policy that will reduce the cost of government, not one suggestion that will increase our liberty and freedom or reduce our tax burden, not one suggestion to improve the economic enviroinment for business. All of his policies and statements have been focused on and directed against business, banks, corporations, oil comapanies, stock traders, wall street, and any financially success of any kind. Before this president, has anyone ever heard of a United States President accuse so many Americaqns and businesses of GREED! Never! His method has been to create a we they atmosphere of rich versus poor by blaming the current temporary economic problems many of which his policies have made worse, on a phony enemy to enable him to increase regulatons and control by the very government that has caused the mess we are in. His method of creating class warfare and unrest is straight from the socialist handbook on how to bring down capitalism. His regulations are designed to keep business afraid. His recent decision to keep an enemies list of corporations that donate to Republicans is an example of the kind of leader is is. If Republicans standing up for the Constitution, Capitalism, Free Enterprise, Freedom and the rule of law is divisive, so be it.

I don’t think we can afford the Republican approach to bringing jobs to us. Looking at Deal’s approach, he spent 750 million in tax revenue to get 6000 jobs and that still leaves Georgia with almost 240,000 still unemployed. At that rate, he would have to give up another 30 billion in state and local tax revenue to get the remaining unemployed jobs. Those are some pricey jobs and if you assume that the jobs average out to the national average of about $48,000 in annual wages and that even if the state collected six percent on the whole amount, it would take over 40 years to recoup the lost tax revenue from those new workers.

The left lost their collective crap after Bush won the election over Gore (however you think it was won) and it has been all downhill ever since. Both parties are guilty. The fringe on both sides took over and and both are to blame. It ebbs and flows with which side is the bigger fool, but it is laughable at best to point your finger at the other side while saying “not our fault, it’s their fault”. The political landscape is horrifically damaged with both sides so entrenched that it may not be possible for us to come out of it. This country needs a statesman and a leader, not a politician.

Obama a divider? Never seen so many libs so vociferously attack the haves. It sucks to be an arts major or try finding a job with a history degree in this economy eh?

Their chief argument is that Obama’s attacks on the wealthy are meant to incite class warfare and a heightened us-versus-them mentality never seen before in present-day politics.

ATTACKS on the wealthy?

Attack me, please! Attack me with some of that endless welfare!

That these lower middle class members of the Ostrich Party are programmed to kiss wealthy asses and fervently pray for some of that trickle down, is interesting, but not useful.

There is and has been a devastating class war against the middle class in this country.

And our lower middle class Republicans?

They not only lost the war, they helped kill their own.

Inexplicable…

“he spent 750 million in tax revenue to get 6000 jobs and that still leaves Georgia with almost 240,000 still unemployed.”

Reminds me a whole lot of the stimulus that the libs still seem to think worked wonders. Except that the stimulus was near a trillion dollars.

If his business is booming, like you say it is, it is because of the record amount of foreclosures on the market today

Nope. He’s not doing any foreclosures. Most of his work is additions and remodeling for people looking to upgrade.

Once again, produce the facts for what you assert……… which was the media is working to get the unemployment numbers down?

Can you prove that or not?

I’m sure that nice fellow on the radio might have a website, the host of the show might have a website, etc

Should not be hard for you to prove, right?

Don’t worry about CNN, CBS, MSNCB, FOX, WSB, WGN……..

back with facts what you said or say you cant do it because it isn’t true but it sounded good to you so you ran with it…….

If you don’t like Obama or his policies there is plenty to go after, but to post your usual factless bull$hit is meaningless…………

All of his policies and statements have been focused on and directed against business, banks, corporations, oil comapanies, stock traders, wall street, and any financially success of any kind.

Again, I say.

PLEASE, direct some of those policies at me!

I’ll suffer through every one of them!

I don’t think we can afford the Republican approach to bringing jobs to us. Looking at Deal’s approach, he spent 750 million in tax revenue to get 6000 jobs and that still leaves Georgia with
almost 240,000 still unemployed.

If you think that is bad, I would recommend you not look up what Obama did with all that stimulus money. And where are all those ’shovel ready jobs’ he promised?

That’s right, Thula, there is nothing at ALL wrong with lawmakers trying to make women carry dead babies inside of them until the dead baby become septic and puts the womans life at immediate risk. It’s good for her, right? Builds character? You know what else would build character? If they started doing men’s protate exams with a trans-vaginal ultrasound wand. I’d just love to see that.

Will someone please tell me how a less than 2% growth rate is good.

Its easy really. In this brave new world of doubletalk 3% growth during W’s middle years was bad, bad, bad. And nevermind Reagan’s 7% growth 2 1/2 years into his presidency after the horrible 81-81 recession- it was bad, bad, bad. Now 2% under O in his 4th year in office is blistering economic growth that knocks your socks off.

Now about that 5 trillion in new debt that O added in only a little over 3 years? The Dems say- What debt?

So the Republicans have grown sensitive over the widely disseminated phrase War on Women.

To take their feelings into consideration, I’ll henceforth refer to it as the more cumbersome, Full Scale GOP Legislative Assault on Women’s Rights.

Now that is a name that even the Republicans themselves can agree with!

LMW1964,

SO how long do they got to carry the dead fetus around? A couple minutes? A week ? Month? Year? How long the cons gonna make them carry it? I can only surmise that if cons are making women carry around dead fetuses its to slow them down with “dead weight” so to speak. It makes them slower, easier targets to shoot in their war on women. I just looked out the window and theose conservative men shot shot another woman. Heck I think that one is even wearing a vote Romney button.

Makes me long for the days of the rampaging telephone pole thieves instead. They were a treacherous and barbarous lot indeed but they weren’t waging war on women- just telphone poles.

All I can tell you is what I heard. You can either believe him or not. As for me, I really don’t give a dam# what you think or believe. The jobs number comes out on major networks, then a few days later, you will see an obscure piece somewhere on line that revises the numbers that were reported, and that number is always higher then what was originally reported on. Go find it yourself. I have neither the time or the effort to do your work for you.

And that has been happening since the inception of keep those job numbers. It’s not unique to this administration. And despite your blatant lie about it, no they don’t ALWAYS change to a higher number.

TBS, I think CO is saying that when the jobless claim numbers get reported as headlines and then when they typically get revised upward, there’s no reporting of the uptick because the real truth is that we’re not seeing necessary improvement, which constitutes a job recovery. It’s kind of suspicious.
