Politico has posted its lists of the 15 best jokes told by Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents Dinner, and the 18 best jokes told by host Jimmy Kimmel.
Personally, I think Obama had the better writers, but you can judge for yourself. Here’s my choice for the best five by each of them, in no particular order:
First, Obama:
– “Now, some have said I blame too many problems on my predecessor, but let’s not forget that’s a practice that was initiated by George W. Bush.”
– “Jimmy got his start years ago on ‘The Man Show.’ In Washington, that’s what we call a congressional hearing on contraception.”
– “Recently, [Romney's] campaign criticized me for slow-jamming the news with Jimmy Fallon. In fact, I understand Governor Romney was so incensed he asked his staff if he could get some equal time on ‘The Merv Griffin Show.’”
– “Look at this party. We’ve got men in tuxes, women in gowns, fine wine, first-class entertainment. I was just relieved to learn this was not a GSA conference.”
And one not on the Politico list:
– “What’s the difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom? The pitbull is delicious.”
And from Kimmel:
– “If you told me when I was a kid I would be standing on a dais with President Barack Obama, I would have said, ‘The president’s name is Barack Obama?’”
– To Obama: “Remember when the country rallied around you in hopes of a better tomorrow? That was hilarious.”
– To New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: “I think you’re misunderstanding New Jersey’s slogan. It’s not the Olive Garden state.”
– “It’s great to see the Gingriches here, because that means the check cleared.”
– “Democrats would like you to stick to your guns. And if you don’t have any guns, you can ask Eric Holder to get some for you.”
– Jay Bookman

Obama was only a child when he ate dog meat. Romney was a grown man with a wife and four impressionable kids when he tied the dog to the car. Of course, being a good Christian, Romney believes people have souls but all other life forms, like cats and dogs, are just beasts of the field.
How does he know that? Because the Bible tells him so.

Cost of borrowing money will go up. employer will have to pay more interest. your raise will be less then it would have been.
Considering that the US lost it’s AAA rating more than 3/4 a year ago, wouldn’t those rates have already started their impression of a Saturn V if that were going to happen? Raises haven’t been much of sh*t since the 1980’s for many lower and middle class workers, so why would a rating decrease change things now?
The US, even with AA credit, is able to borrow money at lower rates than countries with better ratings simply because of our past record. If you or anybody else wants that to change, all you have to do is keep cheerleading for this gridlock and division that created this mess in the first place.

I think most people are “over” DC and all the crap. Seems like neither side does anything but point fingers and host lavish dinners and galas. Meanwhile, a lot of people in America are unemployed and are struggling to fill up their gas tanks and put food on the table. I think it would have made a huge statement if they had cancelled the correspondents dinner and given all the money they spent on it to a homeless shelter or, better yet, a children’s charity (of course people would inevitably complain about the choice of charity). I think the Washington elite and hollywood celebs could do without a fancy dinner for one night.

If Abraham Lincoln were alive today he might not even recognize the Republican Party.
When Lincoln first joined the GOP it was led by men — then considered radicals — whose primary agenda was to free the slaves. Lincoln guided it towards being a moderate progressive party with a wide appeal to the majority of Americans, which helped him win the 1860 presidential election.
Lincoln would also be appalled by all modern legislative assaults on human and civil rights. He would equate all recent attempts by various states ranging from denying civil rights for gays, to telling women what they could or could not do with their bodies, and repudiation of equal pay for equal work, as ill-disguised attempts to subjugate minorities and women.
(What GOP War on Women? LOL)
Finally, Lincoln would advise Republicans to start working with each other instead of engaging in endless bickering, as well as returning to the negotiating table with the Democrats. Lincoln knew successful American politics has always involved *compromise*, starting with the Founding Fathers creating the Constitution.
(OMG, not the *C* word?!)
And certainly Lincoln would testify if he could successfully negotiate and comprise in the midst of the greatest internal crisis our country has ever faced, so can and should the leaders of today’s Republican Party.
(The author used it again!!)

frog,
Occupy Wall Street demonstrators, whose anti-greed message spread worldwide during an eight-week encampment in Lower Manhattan last year, plan marches across the globe tomorrow calling attention to what they say are abuses of power and wealth.
Occupy groups across the U.S. have protested economic disparity, decrying high foreclosure and unemployment rates that hurt average Americans while bankers and financial executives received bonuses and taxpayer-funded bailouts. In the past six months, similar groups, using social media and other tools, have sprung up in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
That should drive our self-sidelined, self-emasculated neocons to go all Rush Limbaugh again!

You talk about ID theft, the Republican brand now stands for all Lincoln stood against, it doesn’t even represent Reagan, it is like the Catholic Church moving from Rome to Las Vegas. The Republicans are busy reversing the government of this country to weak, corrupt, immoral, independent state rule, very similar to the goals of the south in the 1800s. This would be like the old county system in Georgia that gave the minority south Georgia population all the power, the Republican Party has bought minority rule for this country. If they were half as creative in solving the nation’s problems as they were in rearranging furniture to gain power when they can’t get the popular vote, and protect their selfish positions this country would be well on its way to another 100 years of progress. But instead they are obstructionist, and damn close to being revolutionist to the country they claim to love as they destroy it. Very similar to the Confederacy, these people do not care about this country, and the very nation that Lincoln saved and died for, over 100 years ago.
They have done the same thing with religion too if one cares to look. Loopholes become commandments. Our way or the highway, nope Jesus wouldn’t recognize his group either. We have allowed them to buy us, even our names.

This is not a contest, Steve Atl….because the President is VERY likely to be re-elected…
This is about your idealogical understanding of tax policy, spending, and deficit reduction…..
Although there exists some evidence that tax cuts lead to growth, like under Reagan for example, the Bush tax cuts collapsed the economy and have ALWAYS increased the deficit…..furthermore, spending cuts have ALWAYS slowed growth…..Bill Clinton INCREASED TAXES, grew the economy, and REDUCED THE DEFICIT TO ZERO…!!!!

You REALLY need to recheck as to the CAUSE of your problems:
Not better off…
1) my house is worth less — Housing bubble exploded under BUSH; Republican policies caused the decline in housing value
2) my 401k is stagnant – Stock market declined to its worst value under Bush…lest you forget, stock market declined under 8000 which caused 401K’s to bite it big!! Market is now over 12000 under Obama….
3) gas is expensive – Gas first went over $4/gallon under Bush! Oil companies set the energy polcy under Bush/Cheney…and now, the US is EXPORTING gasoline!!
4) business is stagnant – Business s more profitable. Problem is that business is obtaining profits on the BACKS of labor…and not hiring labor!!
5) The future looks uncertain – That is LIFE in a nutshell!! The question you should ask is: Are your more or less optimistic about the future?? Me — QUITE optimistic…..better than I was four — and eight years ago!!

I believe Herbert Hoover did and it resulted in the Wall Street crash of ‘29 which led to the Great depression…but Republicans never remember their history because they are so against education…

Not better off…
1) my house is worth less (I almost lost my house in 2008)
2) my 401k is stagnant (I lost my 401K in 2008, saving my house and stocks dropping by 50%)
3) gas is expensive (I was paying over $4/gallon in 2008 and you were too)
4) business is stagnant (I lost my business in 2008 and many businesses were either failing or on the brink ; that’s not even stagant)
5) The future looks uncertain (Today’s uncertainity is nothing like that of 2008)
Compared to 2008, I’m better off.
