Thomas E. Mann of the Brookings Institution and Norman Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute, two of the most respected non-partisan political analysts in Washington, go ahead and say it:
“We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.
The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.
When one party moves this far from the mainstream, it makes it nearly impossible for the political system to deal constructively with the country’s challenges.”
Yup. That sums it up nicely, I’m afraid.
And as they conclude, the situation is not going to change until the Republicans are forced to pay a very heavy price for their extremism at the polls, and that’s not likely to happen anytime soon. The result is a paralyzed system of governance at a critical time in this nation’s history.

I’ve stopped trying to understand, or reason with them.
I mean, the linked article says it all.
Also check the article that Debbie linked to.
It’s sad when they don’t even surprise you anymore with their viciousness and selfishness.
It all boils down to power. The want all the power but none of the responsibility that comes with governing.

I find it utterly amazing that the liberal mindset just cannot get outside its name calling and intimidation tactics. Every one of my posts on here addresses observations that are factual. Yet, at least three replies all accuse me of hate. Quite ironic that the venom of liberal thinking, i.e. holier-than-thou moral superiority, points four fingers back at itself when it points the one at others who disagree.
Since when is accurately pointing out that this nation is headed into a marxist/socialist ditch hate? Since when is pointing out that America was build upon self reliance, self initiative and personal responsibility hate? Since when is accurately pointing out that the welfare/entitlement mindset is killing our country hate? Big Government has never been, and never will be, the answer to poverty, injustice, etc. It only becomes a framework for more control and oppression of the masses. Name me one, ONE, nation that has prospered under the hand of marxism. This nation was born under the determination of a handful of patriots to live free from the restraints of over reaching government. Most did not want to break free from the comforts of English control. Read your history.
I also find it quite amazing that the uniformed liberal mindset continually equates conservative, republican, etc. with some form of Christianity. They are two different realms, and one has nothing to do with the other. I am no republican. But that is neither here nor there. The point is, under the guise of being open minded, the liberal mindset has become the most dangerous of all mindsets because it actually considers itself morally superior. Thus, any name calling, any intimidation tactic, is justified for the greater good.
The liberal mindset clings to its concepts of marxism/socialism/communism because it seeks the utopian vison of peace on earth, good will towards all men. It cannot accept the flawed character of the human nature, most of all, its own. Mankind is incapable of achieving any utopia at all. How many thousands of years has man been upon the earth? And right now at this point in history, there is more war, more violence, more depravity, than any time before it. A change of nature, a change out of the flawed human mindset is the only answer. Yet, by and large, with a few exceptions here and there, the liberal mindset rejects as foolishness the concept of the grace of God to mend and fix a depraved nature. Reject the means of change, and you reject change. So, year after year, decade after decade, century after century, the liberal mindset continues to pursue its impossible dream.
How is all this “religion stuff” tied into what I began with? The root of true change lies in the personal responsibility of each individual. Taking responsibility for our own lives and our own actions is the beginning of the path to enlightenment. The marxist mindset trying to get a toehold here in America as it has in Europe, denies personal initiative and responsibility. Indeed, it loathes it as a barrier to its control of the masses. When government, any government, controls our lives, something vital in the human makeup is suppressed and prevented from finding the true light that enlightens every man.

Republicans know evolution exists.
In relatively absurdly small numbers, but don’t let that fact dissuade you, oh great reader…
The neocons believe in evolution in a smaller percentage than even that the people of Turkey.
That is how assbackwards you fake conservatives are.
Remember Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback and Mike Huckabee on that national stage? And your beloved party is not remotely embarrassed by that jaw dropping exposition of sheer foolishness.
Incredible.
Even the non-insane republicans like Huntsman and Romney are now calling the GOP the “anti-science party”. But for every one of them, there are ten Rick Perrys, Michelle Bachmans and Herman Cains.
Scientists accept evolution as the best and only theory that accurately explains how humans and other species came to be so diverse.
A 2007 poll found that a whopping 68 percent of Republicans did not believe in evolution.
A 2010 survey found a majority of Republicans, as opposed to much smaller percentages of Independents and Democrats, believing that humans were created in their present form about 10,000 years ago.
74% of people with post-graduate degrees believe in “evolution,” as do: 48% of college graduates 50% of adults with some college 41% of adults with high school or less.
The results of a 2011 poll about the belief in evolution may hold some frightening implications for this country’s future, namely that only 8% of people identifying themselves as Republicans believe that evolution was a thoroughly natural process, free from the influence of God.
No wonder that the United States is falling so dramatically behind other nations in relation to performance in the sciences, huh cons?

I happen to be in my 60’s and I remember when being liberal meant an open mind. Now, it means vilifying anyone who disagrees.
Nevermind the fact that he’s vilifying everyone who disagrees with his political ideology. Claiming something as factual does not relieve one’s action of vilifying. That’s what made me laugh. It’s that “Do as I say, not as I do” attitude that seems to dictate America.

Oscar, I wish it was.
It can be found in the VCU Life Sciences Survey 2010.
We are dealing with programmed (primarily) Republican fools who SO hate academia and all things liberal that they are performing self-administered scientific lobotomies.
In 1981 the state of Arkansas passed a law, Act 590, mandating that “creation science” be given equal time in public schools with evolution, and defining creation science as positing the “creation of the universe, energy, and life from nothing,” as well as explaining the earth’s geology by “the occurrence of a worldwide flood”.[90] This was ruled unconstitutional at McLean v. Arkansas in January 1982 as the creationists’ methods were not scientific but took the literal wording of the Book of Genesis and attempted to find scientific support for it.[90] Undaunted, Louisiana introduced similar legislation that year. A series of judgments and appeals led to the 1987 Supreme Court ruling in Edwards v. Aguillard that it too violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment
“Nearly a third of Texans believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time, and more than half disagree with the theory that humans developed from earlier species of animals…”
Protestants are much less likely than all adults to believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution (32%)
More Americans Believe in the Devil, Hell and Angels than in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution: Nearly 25% of Americans Believe They Were Once another Person.
And soon, nations like Iran and Saudi Arabiua will pass us by in terms of scientific knowledge being taught to our children.
And who, here in Georgia, can ever forget this “educational” blunder of the Nth degree?
This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered.

You’re right Jay. Obama has held out the olive branch over and over again. Remember when he said, “They (republicans) can help but they have to sit at the back of the bus.” Or when he said, “They bring knives, we bring guns.” Or when he berated the Supreme Court TWICE, once for following the law and the second time before he even knows what the outcome is. I always forget that when Democrats change the rules mid course or block any republican backed deal they are “standing up for Americans” but when Republicans do it they are “mean spirited and racist.” Good God, Jay, this president has run the country to ruin and you want to blame the republicans. Both parties need to grow up and stop playing with our future.

Rightism – Actively working to defy logic and disavow the pursuit of knowledge or higher learning. Allowing others to subjugate your beliefs and values by simply repeating lies and hyperbole, and refusing to share details and/or facts to support the oft repeated lies and hyperbole. And steadfast belief that failed policies are to be hewed to until a success is achieved thus repeating a cycle of lunacy that degrades with each iteration, while refusing to acknowledge the facts and calling those who point out the cycles of failure heretics. In other words a textbook example of both delusional and institutionalized insanity… That is if you read textbooks not burn them.

“Scientists accept evolution as the best and only theory that accurately explains how humans and other species came to be so diverse.”
Lol. Depends on which scientist you are talking to doesn’t it? When you reject the Creator, yeah, all you are left with is “theories”. I always find it interesting that when statements like the one above are made, the one making them never has as adequate, indeed, no answer at all, to this question:
If mankind evolved out of the primordial ooze, where did the ooze come from? Oh, life sprang from the tiny one celled animal? Where did it come from? LOL. Something never springs from nothing. It doesn’t matter how far you take it, the next question is always, “But where did that come from?” A passage of Scripture does come to mind:
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Hey now. Be nice! Not all of us are rejecting the Creator!
Some of us merely reject the inane opinions of under-evolved men with over-sized egos who imagine that somehow THEY understand the mind of the Creator enough to tell everyone else what to think and do — in HIS name! I misstated one of the empirically proven facts that I listed earlier.
Of the thirty-two European countries and Japan in that 2006 study, only Turkish adults were less likely to accept the concept of evolution than American adults.
What a duo, huh?
And as for the Republicans and their scientific illiteracy?
I’m sure they compete nicely with the adults in Guinea, Egypt, Senegal, Iran, North Korea and Ethiopia on the question…

Our debt now surpasses our GDP. Domestic growth in China is at 9%, Mexico at 4%….. the US is at 1.7%. Unemployment is at 8.2% if you believe the contrived numbers…… more 12-14% when add it all in. Millions are still out of work. Foreclosures are still at an all time high. More people on food stamps than ever before in our nation. Welfare spending under Bozo has increased 41% since he took office. More homes under water than ever before in our nation’s history. Your children’s and your grandchildren’s tax dollars have already been spent just to pay the interest on our debt.
I might remind you that when Bozo took office, he stated that if he did not have this economy under control during his first term, he does not deserve to be re-elected. Finally, he has said something that I agree with. Are you blind or do you just not care?

Lol.
Depends on which scientist you are talking to doesn’t it?
No. Given that response, the joke is on you. You are scientifically illiterate on the matter .
…sufficient evidence exists in support of evolution to convince 99.85% of America’s earth and life scientists that the theory is valid. Evolution is the key unifying theory that unifies many different branches of science, from cosmology to biology.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/ev_proof.htm
Surveys were sent to the department head of 158 research university Biological Sciences departments asking:
“Regarding the issue of ‘Intelligent Design theory’ vs. current biological consensus on the mechanisms of evolution – is there a difference of professional opinion within your department that you feel could be accurately described as a scientific controversy? Yes/No”
From 158 queries, the author received 73 responses. 71 (97.3%) responded “no”, 1 responded “no, but…” (and his comment about why is on the site), and 1 responded “yes.”
The vast majority of the scientific community and academia supports evolutionary theory as the only explanation that can fully account for observations in the fields of biology, paleontology, molecular biology, genetics, anthropology, and others.
One 1987 estimate found that “700 scientists … (out of a total of 480,000 U.S. earth and life scientists) … give credence to creation-science”.
That is 0.15%.
An expert in the evolution-creationism controversy, professor and author Brian Alters, states that “99.9 percent of scientists accept evolution”. A 1991 Gallup poll of Americans found that about 5% of scientists (including those with training outside biology) identified themselves as creationists.
Additionally, the scientific community considers intelligent design, a neo-creationist offshoot, to be unscientific, pseudoscience, or junk science.
The U.S. National Academy of Sciences has stated that intelligent design “and other claims of supernatural intervention in the origin of life” are not science because they cannot be tested by experiment, do not generate any predictions, and propose no new hypotheses of their own.
In September 2005, 38 Nobel laureates issued a statement saying “Intelligent design is fundamentally unscientific; it cannot be tested as scientific theory because its central conclusion is based on belief in the intervention of a supernatural agent.”
In October 2005, a coalition representing more than 70,000 Australian scientists and science teachers issued a statement saying “intelligent design is not science” and calling on “all schools not to teach Intelligent Design (ID) as science, because it fails to qualify on every count as a scientific theory”.

Matti:
The problem with you post is that age old observation that man creates God in his own image. The Scriptures are quite clear on everything I posted. It reminds me of how the Pharisees covered their ears and rushed with one accord upon Stephen and stoned him to death for speaking the truth to them.
There is something deep in the human nature that will not, can not, accept the truth. If if does, it means the end of the self centered life. I have no animosity towards anyone open to the truth, regardless of their current state or mindset. It is those who not only reject the truth, but also encourage others to do the same, that incur reproach, not mine, but God’s.
It’s a shame all the Jerry Falwells, etc. (deceased, I know) and what is called the religious right, has so muddied the waters of coming to know Christ personally. Religion and relationship are two different things. Yes, we can know the Creator, and yes, we can express His mindset without being arrogant. It only seems that way to those who reject and hold in contempt the means of their own salvation.
The world, and America in particular, has reached a tipping point. Never has their been such division and strife. My posts about the liberal mindset are without malice towards individuals, per se. It’s just a plain fact that is now stands as the one channel for all the refuse of lies and deception that is being poured in the country at the present time.
I remember back in the late 70’s and 80’s when the religious right, the “moral majority” was at its zenith, IT was the primary threat to our country. That has been broken, and replaced with the liberal mindset which is just, no, more so, than its religious counterpart.
Name calling and intimidation with such phrases as bigot, racist, hater, etc. are just defense mechanisms for a fallen nature that resists being reconciled to its Creator. Get over the politics and look to your own soul.

Our debt now surpasses our GDP.
Our debt is a total that has been accumulated over the course of 200 plus years. The GDP is an amount that’s produced EVERY year. While the numbers are very similar, the actual amounts are worlds apart.
Domestic growth in China is at 9%, Mexico at 4%….. the US is at 1.7%.
The export of jobs and import of cheap sh*t that’s created by the US helps drive the domestic growth of those other two countries. The only reason Mexico’s percentage is lower than China is because Mexico’s already had their day in the sun.

The New Welfare Queen: Getting “Crazy” Checks
This one came with this quote from a blogger that when I read it I damn near fell out my chair in hysterical laughter!
As a young conservative, I made up my mind decades ago not to accept any government handouts, but to be self-sufficient in this life. That’s not hard to do in a country as great as America, where opportunity abounds.
In my opinion, if you’re not willing to make the same private personal pledge, then you’re part of the problem in America, and are sucking on the government teat, which hurts everyone. Liberals have no problem whatsoever taking money from their fellow man through government programs and handouts, and many of them don’t really need to do so – they just do because it’s available.
If more people would stop taking from Uncle Sam and start making do on their own, most of the entitlement overspending would be a moot point.
I read that and kept saying to myself, “Kid, don’t ever get laid off, (UI), too sick to work, (MEDICAID/DISABILITY), or old (MEDICARE)!
These people on these sites are Hill-LARRY-Yus! They remind me of the dumb kid in school who’d sit in the back of the room and every now and then say something really dumb so that the whole class would start laughing!!

Mr. Benson,
The scriptures were written down, shared, edited, truncated, translated, reproduced, and distributed by MEN — many of whom had their own agendas for controlling populations, governments, individuals, and of course, wealth. Throughout the centuries, men have used these scriptures as the basis for all manner of evil deeds against each other. Any attempt to reason with me that cites “the Scriptures are quite clear” circumvents this reality and insults my intelligence. I attribute my ability to learn and reason to whatever great being designed and created me, and it would be an insult to my Creator to not use the gifts I received.
That being said, I happily indulge the reasoning of anyone who truly lives his beliefs. I’m a good listener, and don’t imagine that I already know everything. (Certainly, I do not!) However, I can count those people on one hand and still have fingers left over. The minute a Christian bears false witness, he or she loses all credibility to tell me anything.

Debbie,
What the hell is wrong with being self sufficient? Bozo is not only the entitlement king but the food stamp king as well. He has already written off white working America who is providing all of the money for this “redistribution” of wealth. People that work for a living, free enterprise and a free market economy are all the enemy. More people who work for a living…. less people on the dole but less Bozo votes. See, it’s not so difficult.

See, it’s not so difficult.
I’ll break it down for you:
(A) Tea Partyers and other extreme Tighty Righties, have been screaming to reduce the government. They want the teachers laid off, the post office laid off, the TSA laid off, GM to fail (which means lay offs), Dept of Education to go away, (Again, even MORE people laid off); AND they also want the FDA to disband!! The only “government entity” they want to grow is the Armed Forces (if you’re young and laid off you can always join the military to go and die in another country or get maimed and then ignored when you come home — ’cause when you get back there will be NO jobs!)
(B) With all these before mentioned positions gone and the MILLIONS unemployed, what the HECK do people EXPECT will happen? Duh!

When Hitler and the Nazis came to power, a historian observed that “the gutter has come to power”.
Some years ago, the Republican Party decided to sell itself to Big Business and, because of this, became lackeys of the rich. They also decided to appeal to the lowest common denomator of their already common electorate. Finally, they started to wage an all out war on women, the middle-class and the poor. So, in the coming election, if the Tea Party Republicans keep or increase their numbers in the House and gain control of the Senate, WE TOO can say “the gutter has come to power”

Jam – This is an excerpt from the link that I provided earlier, (you REALLY need to read and/or listen to Tighty Righty blogs and radio shows — it’ll tell you how crazy they really are):
As I wrote last night, it is clear the Obama Justice Department is out of control, but we haven’t seen everything yet.
“I’m not being over the top here, I fear the Obama gang is setting themselves up to steal the elections if possible,” Fitton said. “The most problematic area here is the Justice Department.”
Project Vote and ACORN have not gone away, they’ve just been splintered and renamed. On top of still being in existence, even after Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe proved the group was willing to help with the sex trafficking of underage girls, the Obama Justice Department is working directly with these groups in an effort to steal the White House.
“The Justice Department isn’t being run by political appointees, it’s being run by outside activists,” Fitton said. “This attorney general is the most partisan hack we’ve had in office since Richard Nixon’s day.”
These same activists are pressuring states on their voter registration and voter I.D. laws and are working hand-in-hand with the Justice Department to sue those states.
Fitton also warned of Obama’s goals for amnesty and opposition to citizenship verification at the polls. Illegal immigrants voting in states that do not have voter I.D. laws or voter registration verification, is a serious problem.
“This is not about the Hispanic vote, this about the illegal alien vote. This is a serious threat to the integrity of our elections,” Fitton said.
Despite these facts, the Obama machine isn’t going to take November without a fight or accountability.
“If this administration thinks they’re going to sneak their way into office, we’re going to be there yelling at them, at least,” Fitton said.
I look at this article in one of two ways:
(A) They’re already making excuses as to why they lost the election and
(B) They know how to gin up fear better than Poe, Orson Welles and that freaky lady on that show, all in one!

“Our debt is a total that has been accumulated over the course of 200 plus years. The GDP is an amount that’s produced EVERY year. While the numbers are very similar, the actual amounts are worlds apart.”
Nice try but not really relevant. The massive amount of debt being added as a % of GDP is largely unprecedented. And the debt for the first 200 years was minimal.
“The export of jobs and import of cheap sh*t that’s created by the US helps drive the domestic growth of those other two countries.”
If you’re talking about outsourcing I got news for ya. That’s been going on for a long time. Nothing new except that lately its just the overriding excuse for economic failure under this president.
“The only reason Mexico’s percentage is lower than China is because Mexico’s already had their day in the sun.”
Mexico had their day in the sun? Exactly what the ehll is that supposed to mean in terms of economic growth.
Brocephus, once again you are edging dangerously close to the economic philosophy that we should go more into a protectionist stance to keep jobs here. We’ve been over this before and it is not a debatable point in terms of economics. The world is better off, much better off with free and fair trade. Protectionism in the name of stopping outsourcing would take us so far into depression its not even funny. Again. This is not a debateable point.

Debbie,
Just how much do you want the government to grow? It is already bigger than it has ever been and continues to grow out of proportion to the need to grow. I really do not think that any level headed American would want to abolish the TSA, the Postal Service, AmTrack, the Dept of Education. the FDA, the Dept of Energy or others that we need for obvious regulation procedures that make us safe and keep corporations honest. I just believe that most of these organizations, if not all of them, have grown out of proportion to what is needed. We need more efficiency in our government as well as prudent spending on our military. The Dept of Energy was organized under Carter to attempt to wean us off of fossil fuels and to use our energy more efficiently. Gas prices are presently at an all time high and we import more foreign oil than ever before, yet we spend over 23B/yr on this worthless bunch of bureaucrats keeping them in a job. This is what is so objectionable to the Tea Party and to me. Does it not bother you?

If Romney wins in November, Obama will blame it on a racist America, Bush, the radical right wing extremists, TEA party, Fox News, BIG oil, BIG business, Wall Street, and a host of other groups that drive the wacky left over the cliff. He will not blame himself for his failed occupancy of the White House (sorry, just can’t bring myself to using the term President and his name in the same paragraph). K71 – You can’t have it both ways. You can’t lay off millons of people from governent jobs, (necessary government jobs), and/or lay off teachers and expeect it not to affect negatively on employment figures. that just doesn’t happen. You can’t say things like “Bozo is not only the entitlement king but the food stamp king as well. He has already written off white working America who is providing all of the money for this “redistribution” of wealth”; and not expect to be called out as either an incredibly gullible person, an uneducated person or a liar. And once again, you are edging dangerously close to completely misreading what I’m saying. I know that offshoring has been going on for a long time. The problem is that we offshore 5 decent jobs and create 1 good paying job and 2 crappy paying jobs. After a while, the economy suffers from that. Regardless to who ended up winning that election in 2008, things would still be the same. People don’t have money now. People didn’t have money in the early 2000’s. When the easy credit disappeared, so did the consumption. If anybody wants to see GDP grow, then you have to put money into the hands of the people who will SPEND it and not those who will SAVE it. If the money isn’t circulating, then it’s not aiding the economy as much as it could.

The only solution to me is to get as much of the money out of the political process, including public financing of campaigns, strict limits on both the length of the campaign season and the amount of advertising allowed during that season – along with the price ‘the people’ have to pay for broadcast time and print media space. Sorta like negotiating healthcare rates. And, of course, we eliminate all campaign contributions to candidates…maybe then we can stop the legalized bribery that runs our ’system’ now and we’ll find out who the honest ones really are.

Brocephus,
“The problem is that we offshore 5 decent jobs and create 1 good paying job and 2 crappy paying jobs.”
Is that your general opinion or is that an actual number provided for and backed up by empirical data? Cause from where I’m sitting that looks like a generalized, off the top of the head opinion based on ….
“If anybody wants to see GDP grow, then you have to put money into the hands of the people who will SPEND it and not those who will SAVE it. If the money isn’t circulating, then it’s not aiding the economy as much as it could.”
Demand is certainly part of the equation but hardly the end all be all. What we need is the successful supply side economics that propelled us to nearly 30 years of near continous economic growth and prosperity. What that entails is low marginal and capt gains tax rates, a smaller, leaner federal govt, less govt interference and spenidng as a % of the economy, and dramatically less regulation as in the BOOM years of Reagan. We were Keynesians when the economy stagnated under Nixon and Carter, supply siders when it flourished under Reagan, and now Keynesians as it flails under O. And the reality is that as the debt situation worsens the economy will worsen for a variety of reasons. It is the single biggest obstacle to economic growth. And I see absolutely no effort by the Dems to combat the debt monster. None.
And as for demand induced stimulus Japan tried it plenty of times- 10 times to be exact, during its lost decade. And it did not work then. And it will not work now. And you guys will continue to propose that something that does not work actually works despite the clear evidence that it does not.
