Travelin’ to a place I haven’t been (yet)

They’re kicking off the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival today, and once again, for reasons that are unknown to me, I am not in attendance.

Some day — and I mean someday soon — that injustice must be rectified.

In the meantime, I must console myself with cuts like this, from the great Kermit Ruffins. You gotta love those horns and that bad bad piano player. And that ain’t no maybe baby.

Have a good weekend y’all. If you happen to be at the Inman Park Festival and see someone who looks like me, say hello.

It’ll probably be my younger brother. :>)

You’ve never been? Put everything else on hold and take off down 85 S. You ain’t gettin’ any younger and we will, according to the Rabbis, be held accountable for those pleasures we could have gotten and didn’t. We say down that way, Mardi Gras is our party for the world, Jazz Fest is our party for ourselves…and you’re invited!

Sorry, gang, I’m just a total non-jazz head…

jo, a customer of mine has a son in a band named Mercy Me. An homage to you know who.

So as I walk out of her office earlier this week and past the nurses station, I sang the lyric “Ah things ain’t what they used to be”, pitch perfect of course, which amused the ladies to no end. But when you’ve got pipes like these, it’s a damn shame not to share them! And I didn’t even do the falsetto parts…

Thanks, BOTH, back at ya. Bruno and I mentioned you in regards to that last night.

And you know me well. When I think of jazz, at least the type that I can connect with, I groove towards that superb, fused Dan crossover sound.

My own musical muse doesn’t seem to have a lot of jazz flavors that I can easily identify, but this one kinda sorta does.

And of course, as is the case on many of his albums, he plays all of the instruments, sings all of the vocals, and does all of the recording, mixing and producing.

Yeah, I’m not the biggest jazz head myself. And it being Friday, I’ll keep my opinions of the “aficionados” to myself…But as for Jazz Fest, it’s so much more than jazz. The whole idea is that while jazz may be the Big Easy’s gift to the world, it’s the place where you can get it all in real time…I’ve gone from country western, to classical, to blues, to rock and roll…you name it, all in the same place with the same crowds…the true celebration of music…

That’s the way the San Jose Fest is set up. The Main Stage at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park where the headliners play on Sat. and Sun. night, a youth stage in an auditorium, a blues stage, a salsa stage, a latin stage, a big band stage.and a really cool indoor theater type stage for smaller combos. They close the downtown area and you walk from stage to stage depending on when and what you want to hear. ‘Cept for the headlining acts on Sat and Sun. evening, there are no large crowds.

Really mick…first of all any comments that I’ve made related to you have always been directed to you not to someone else, so josef wasn’t protecting your back. You obviously can’t make that same claim, can you. This is a political opinion blog where the host is on the left politically and that’s is probably what attracts you here. There are many of us who post on here who do not share the left wing view and I’m pretty sure that Jay not only expects it but he also wants it that way. Perhaps you don’t like reading posts that are contrary to your opinions but that’s your problem. I take no offense to your own political views and for the most part don’t read your posts unless of course you’re making some reference to me as pointed out above. If someone submits a post challenging me, I’ll reply to their challenge if they’ve challenged in a respectful manner. If someone posts in a disrespectful manner without even having the courtesy to offer their own opinion, I’ll reply in kind. Your posts concerning me have been in that later category. I would suggest that to avoid having your feelings hurt by something that I may post, you consider doing what I do and that is ignoring it by just scrolling on by.
