Karl Rove takes on President Cool

Yesterday I posted video of President Obama’s appearance with Jimmy Fallon, suggesting that in a contest for the youth vote, Mitt Romney might find it hard to compete.

So here’s the video response from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads:

As subtle as a 2-by-4.

Of course, Rove knows cool.

Guess American Crossroads forgot that government doesn’t create jobs. The fact that 1 in 2 can’t find work is a sign of private sector failure…. Can’t mix talking points just to fit your narrative. Either something is true or it’s not. Get a set of “truths” and stick with it. Otherwise, it all looks like political jackassery to the highest degree…

Posted this downstairs, but since they wanna talk about jobs….

While Wisconsin Gov, Scott Walker (R) fights to keep his job in a recall election scheduled for June, he is being forced to confront a harsh reality in his state: It lost more jobs during the past 12 months than any other state in the United States.

Wisconsin lost 23,900 jobs between March 2011 and March 2012, according to data released Tuesday by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s lead in job losses is significantly greater than the rest of the 50 states: No other state lost more than 3,500 jobs.

The majority of the losses in Wisconsin, 17,800, were in the public sector. However, the state lost more private-sector jobs, 6,100, than any other state. The only other states to report private-sector job losses in the same time period (instead of private-sector gains) were Mississippi and Rhode Island.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Elections/Governors/2012/0425/Wisconsin-posts-biggest-US-job-loss-as-Gov.-Scott-Walker-fights-for-his-job

I guess that when you cut those government jobs, it DOES have an effect on everything else around it. Also, before the Walker appologists jump in, the 23k number is only that low because Wisconsin added about 13K jobs between Jan and March 2012. The one question that I have about that article is this part here…

“There are a lot of other indicators that we see that show the governor’s policies are working,” Reggie Newson, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, told the Associated Press. Compared with a year ago, unemployment rates are lower throughout the state except in three counties, Mr. Newson also noted in a statement.

You have a net loss of 23k jobs, yet your unemployment rates are lower except for 3 counties?? That either means that those three counties have unemployment percentages off the charts, many people quit looking for jobs (as the conservatives always like to count those guys), or people lost jobs and left the state. Either way, that doesn’t appear to show that Walker’s agenda is working as promised. That is, unless the true motive was to make people pack and leave Wisconsin.

“Confirming what many in the industry long suspected, a video surfaced Wednesday in which Al Armendariz, an official at the Environmental Protection Agency, promotes the idea of crucifying oil companies.”

Well, glad to see a real pro wading into the middle of this fight. These Mormon canadates don’t do a good job of lying, tho they flip-flop alot. The problem comes when they tell the truth when they oughtn’t to do it, like telling people how much they like to fire people and saying how the little wife likes to run around in a pair of new Cadillacs as her junk cars and how they got a car elevator in their house when no one else in the country is too lazy to walk to their car or truck.

But Karl Rove is just about the best there is. He can twist the truth till you won’t even recognize it.

Re the tax cuts, I figured you could tell that even conservatives acknowledge that idea was a bad one when they tried to re-label them as Obama Tax cuts when he extended them. If they were as good as touted, they would be glory hogs to high hell instead of trying to rename them. I imagine it will only be a matter of time before outside unions and Democrats get the blame for the job losses in Wisconsin. Some people NEVER admit when they are wrong.

But your comments on Walker struck me as partisan.

What you perceived as partisan was actually personal. I come from a union family. I am a public sector worker, and I am also a union member. Anybody who disparages public sector workers or public sector union members may as well be talking about me. I take that very personal as I work my ass off to do my job to the best of my abilities.

As can be seen, removing collective bargaining didn’t do jack sh*t about creating jobs. Anybody who bought that bullsh*t should be run out of office right along with Walker. DEMAND is what creates jobs. When you fire people, cut their pay, or do anything adverse to their wallets, you screw up demand for goods. That, in turn, screws other people out of employment. It doesn’t matter if they work for the private OR public sector.

I’m not saying that unions should have free reign over the country either. I’d put money on there being a direct relation to the stagnant wages for the working class in spite of growth of companies versus the decline of union representation over the past 30-40 years.

In addition, the thousands of arrests made for the counterfieting of U.S. currency, forgery of government checks and bonds, credit card fraud, computer fraud and threats against those they are authorized to protect.

I don’t know how many agents will eventually have to answer for unwise “work hard – play hard” off-duty antics but I do know that twenty-nine personnel have died in the line of duty.

You should research what fed unions are ACTUALLY allowed to do before you talk about exceses. By law, fed unions CAN NOT strike, bargain over pay and benefits, or be forced to pay dues even when covered by a CBA. All our union is good for is negotiating things like seniority bids for positions and stuff. Our pay is dictated by the same jackasses who claim we’re a menace to taxpayers. Too bad most people don’t pay attention to that kind of doublespeak and believe that we have some kind of sway on our pay.

I was not being partisaned as I was simply speaking to Wisconsin, which was a GOP initiated issue. I personally don’t care for either party as they both screw us over in turns. As a matter of fact, ask any prior military or gov’t LEO about which party is better for them to be in control, and they’ll tell you the GOP 9 times out of 10. When the GOP is in control, that usually equates to pay increases and such, contrary to the view they try to spread about the Democratic Party.

Yep. And the world just stood by for 100 days while the slaughter took place. Effing horrible. A very small contingent of U.S. and or U.N. troops- a mobile force of several thousand, could have stopped it dead in his tracks. A small but organized and efficient Tutsi rebel army was able to do just that.

Towncerier and They Boths Suck,

I definitely agreee on Obama’s use of drones in Afgh. He was surprisingly much more aggressive than W on going after them and I applaud him for that. He will end up losing Afgh. but I don’t blame him for that. Its a war we cannot win because these people simply are not ready for democracy. Not even close.

Brocephus,

Get over it with the union crap dude and with the public sector workers bit. You public sector workers work for the taxpayer. You seem to forget that. Its not our job to pay you significantly higher than comparable private sector workers in terms of benefits and salary.

And when the economy takes a nosedive and the private sector is taking huge hits there is no reason as to why the public sector, whose pay is paid by taxpayers, shouldn’t take a small haircut in order to help out. Its called shared sacritifice- a term I’ve often heard from liberals. Perhaps you’ve heard of it.

And before you go off on a rant that cons hate public workers get a grip. My sister in law is a teacher, my mom is a retired state worker, my brother is an army officer, and the other brother is an accountant who works for the state. I’ve no problem with public sector workers at all and as a matter of fact I think they get a bad rap in terms of work ethic for the most part- GSA and some others being the exception. I don’t blame public sector workers at all but rather the nature of bureaucracy and the dunderheads at the top and politicians who grow bureaucracies to unneeded bloatededness(if that’s even a word).

My brother and sister took temporary pay decreases and benefit decreases of 5% for a couple of years until the state’s finances recovered. They just now got those benefits back. But he didn’t whine and complain when his family had to take some of that shared sacrifice. And neither should you or some other public sector workers when it comes to shared sacrifice.

I agree with Scout. Trying to blame Obama for the antics of a few agents, who probably entered service long before Obama set foot in DC, is wrong. Doing that is no different than blaming Gen. Amos for what Sgt. Stein posted on his facebook page about Obama. It may indeed be a breakdown in discipline. However, the CIC does not have hands on interaction with everybody in the federal service, regardless to the fact that he’s the man in charge.

As to handling it, I think he’s done a much better job at this one as in past incidents. An even better comparison is that agents lost their jobs because of ethical lapses. Congressmen who violate ethical standards (most recently insider trading) get re-elected. I’d say that the executive branch has a much better grip on effective leadership when compared to the legislative branch.

BULLSH*T!!! Pull your little stats out that skew to show what you choose to see. Nevermind the fact that the public sector is generally far more educated than the private sector and many public sector jobs have no private sector counterpart. Just because the private sector worker let themselves get screwed out of benefits and pay over the past 30-40 years does not mean that other people have to bend over and get screwed in the same manner.

I never said anything about public sector people NOT working for the taxpayer, but in the manner that we work for you, we are not your damned house servants. We work for you just as much as we work for us.

You claim not to blame public sector workers, but anytime the subject comes up, your context and demeanor says far more than you’ll ever openly admit to. I don’t think that conservatives hate public workers, they merely use us as punching bags and scapegoats to increase their re-election potential because the mindless sheep eat their sh*t up and vote likewise on election day. Probably half the public sector workforce is conservative and/or vote GOP.

The only thing you hear me voice my opinion on is the fact that I refuse to let someone dog me out. You want shared sacrifice, then explain why fed workers have given up $60 billion in deficit reduction plans since the GOP took control of the house while the people with the means to give a few extra dollars haven’t contributed a damn dime extra…

I know that Amos didn’t make the final decision, so why should it be inferred that Obama has to? To try to make this as some direct reflection on Obama is nothing but political posturing.

You’re right, school isn’t out yet, but given the fact that there are several more openings in the Secret Service now than there were before the Colombia trip would lead one to think that Sullivan is doing a pretty good job at vetting things out thoroughly so far. I know it’s hard for some of y’all to give credit to anything positive that might reflect on Obama, but I simply agree with Scout and others on this one. Obama’s not the donkey that the tail is pinned on in this case.

To claim, using your words, “The metric will be what Obama as CiC does to correct this issue and not what he does to minimize it.” gives the impression that you expect Obama to be hands on in correcting every issue that pops up in the federal service. If he has to live up to that expectation, when does he have the time to actually do HIS job and not the job of people who actually are responsible for handling issues such as this?

The whole thing dragging down the postal service is the bloated pay, pensions and benefits. Go ahead now. Look it up and you’ll begin to understand what the hell I’m talking about.

“we are not your damned house servants”

No one said that you were. Just that your benefits should be more in line with the private sector is all. Again. Start witht he UPS and USPS and Fedex comparison.

“your context and demeanor says far more than you’ll ever openly admit to”

I’ll say it one last time so that perhaps it will finally sink in. Its not about the rank and file employees. Its about govt inefficiency which has more to do with the people at the top and the laws of organizational behavior in a bureaucracy than anything else. But yet you keep taking it personally . Get the damn chip off your shoulder.

Good example of what I’m talking about. I’m sure you and your counterprarts work very hard. But I watched a Stossel report on major airports around the country who either chose the TASA when they had a chance or privatized. Oddly enough San Franc chose a private firm. Guess what. They don’t have the near 50% turnover that TSA has according to Stossel, things run more efficiently, they nab more suspicious packages in tests because they are better trained, morale is better, and they aren’t strip searching granny, patting down 4 year olds, and feeling up former miss Americas.

And in a part of the report that typifies the whole difference between a private firm and the TSA they talked about tourist cities who have peak seasonal demand. The private firm adjusts for its and hires or transfers extra workers to help out. But the TSA? You kidding. I don’t remember the airport but I think it was the one that serves Yellowstone or Jackson Hole, WY. Anyway the frustration they had at this airport was that airport passengers tripled during the summer tourist season. But do the idiots who run TSA transfer or hire additional staff to meet the demand? Um. No. Dumb as hell and just one more reason on top of all the ridiculous searches of granny that your organization is held in such pitifully low esteem.

Once you get into a supervisor position, you are no longer covered by collective bargaining. I don’t have a chip on my shoulder other than the one that people put there.

IT’s a case of study what the hell you’re ranting about before going on a tirade. If you wanna rant about bureaucrats and such, then leave the unions out. They don’t belong to the union. They are not bought by the union. Some look out for federal employees, but that’s because their constitutents are fed workers.

Regarding transferring employees, when you’re short-handed everywhere, why hurt yourself in one place just to please people in other places. Have you ever tried to go through security at Hartsfield on a Monday morning before 9am? I’ve seen the security line go from the checkpoint, through the atrium, around the arrival escalator, through the MARTA station, wind through the baggage claim area, and then wrap around the building where the taxis park. You can’t transfer enough people to handle that kind of load and then move them back to other places. If you think things are bad now, imagine how much worse things would get with another 10% fewer workers.

One last thing… USPS delivers to pretty much every single address in this country six days a week regardless of weather. When UPS and FedEx does that, then they should have comparable pay and benefits. Until then, I don’t think they should.

I shouldn’t have to tell you about the command chain or maybe I should.

Maybe you should review the command chain. Sullivan might be a direct report to the President. However, Sullivan wasn’t the one creating the two hump beast in Colombia. It was the equivalent of the E-5 that was banging prostitutes. The Agent(s) are NOT a direct report to Obama.

Brocephus,

Can you say bloated, mismanaged, and inefficient? BTW I bought several gifts for my new nieces and mailed them at 9 am Thursday morning from a post office in Gwinnett county to Montgomery which is right at 3 hours away. I mailed it priority mail which is 2-3 days anywhere in America. Being only 3 hours away I figured the package would get there the next day Friday or at the latest Saturday in time for them to open their stuff up before Easter. They didn’t get it tilll Monday AFTER Easter. Technically they did have 3 days to deliiver it to a place 3 hours away. But can you explain the incompetency of dropping it off Thursday morning at 9 am and it not getting there until Monday afternoon to a place only 3 hours away? Lesson learned. Next time I’ll use fedex or UPS or just drive the damn thing over.

“At the same time, decades of contractual promises made to unionized workers, including no-layoff clauses, are increasing the post office’s costs. Labor represents 80 percent of the agency’s expenses, compared with 53 percent at United Parcel Service and 32 percent at FedEx, its two biggest private competitors. Postal workers also receive more generous health benefits than most other federal employees.”

That’s your choice. It’s a market decision. When looking at labor costs, why not also break down the full time worker numbers vs part time. UPS pretty much hires people as part time workers. That way, they don’t have to offer anything substantial towards benefits. Most postal workers are full time employees.

For three years, the Postal Service has been asking the Congress to alter the payment schedule of a mandate in a 2006 law that, unlike any other federal agency, requires the Postal Service to prefund retiree health benefits in amounts approximating $5.5 billion. In addition, the Postal Service has asked to gain access to $50 to $75 billion in overpayments it has made to the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and a $6.9 billion it has overpaid to the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).

http://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2011/pr11_052.htm

There’s always two sides to a story. No other agency has to prefund retirement benefits. I can’t think of a private sector company that does that either. You blame the post office, when the blame should go to the very jackasses you voted to send to DC. Politicians create these messes and make it seem as though it’s the fault of the agency. I’m not saying that every agency runs like a well oiled machine, but things usually get effed up whenever a politician gets actively involved in something.

“Regarding transferring employees, when you’re short-handed everywhere, why hurt yourself in one place just to please people in other places”

Jesus H. Christ Bro,

I’m not talking about an hourly rush here and there throughout the day. I’m talking about a seasonal tripling of air passengers that happens every year like clockwork in airports near tourist destinations. And they aren’t smart enough to hire extra help or to transfer a few workers from other airports to the summer airports that have tripled demand for several months. Good God are you going to sit there with a straight face and openly excuse this kind of sheer incompetency?

“One last thing… USPS delivers to pretty much every single address in this country six days a week regardless of weather. When UPS and FedEx does that, then they should have comparable pay and benefits. Until then, I don’t think they should.”

Are you effing serious? Doesn’t the USPS have a monopoly on mail service which if true makes your point irrelevant? And on the same note let me offer my own suggestion. Until the postal services can raise its crappy delivery standards I suggest that they take a huge pay cut and save the taxpayers some money. Several years back there was a complaint by Fedex and UPS about the postal service in its advertising for 1 day service. The reason for the complaint was that the postal service had somethign terrible like a 70% delivery ratio on its 1 day air packages yet they were allowed to advertise it as 1 day guaranteed even with a subpar delivery rate of 70-75% on time delivery. UPS and Fedex were both something like 98% on 1 day delivery. Again. Incompetence and inefficiency by a pi$$ poor govt entity. And then there are people like you who excuse this incompetence.

I understand the chain of command. I know that the head of the Marines is not actively going to deal with an issue coming from an E-5. Likewise, I don’t expect the President to get actively involved in personnel matters of a GS-9/11/13. Sullivan is dealing with the agents. If Sullivan doesn’t do it, then the head of the department is Napolitano. Obama is Napolitano’s boss, per se. Obama has more than enough layers of command between him and the agents to handle the issue. If it gets to the point where Obama has to get involved, then that means Sullivan has failed. As I stated earlier, he seems to be handling things so far, whether you choose to give credit or not.

When you have shortages at your everyday places, where in the hell are you going to get people to transfer? What do you think is going on right now along the Southern Border? We’re sending officers from all around to help the groups out down there. Nevermind the fact that many places are short themselves. Do you think the public actually gives a damn about it?? All people want is their instant gratification. They don’t give a sh*t about anything else. You move people from one spot, then you’re short somewhere else and other people are bitching. It’s a lose-lose game. Do you think the fed gov’t is going to be able to hire the numbers necessary to satisfy everybody all the time?? HELL no!!

In reference to the postal service, if it were up to me, I’d make people drive to the post office to get their own mail. That would cut employees significantly, but people would lose that luxury of having their mail come to them. If the taxpayer want’s to save money, that’s the best way I can think of to do it.

I worked at UPS so I know about part time but the postal service also hires part time during the holidays so they both do it. Also, after you’ve paid your dues at UPS you get promoted to a full time position such as a driver simply by being good at your job. You don’t get promoted just for being around a long time. Perhaps the postal service should start tailoring the way it operates more along the lines of UPS. Their first and foremost service is to provide a service for the taxpayers who pay for it.

Employeeing people and paying them well is secondary to the primary purpose of giving the taxpayer a decent product at a decent price. The only people who think the primary purpose is to be a jobs program are govt employees. That’s not how it works bro.

And secondly the postal service probably has to pre fund its retirement packages because Congress got tired of the postal service constantly losing money and having to come to Congress. How many times over the past decade or 2 have we seen the post office lose money? Hasn’t that happened several times?
