One of the battlegrounds of the 2012 presidential campaign will be younger voters, as the Associated Press reports:
WASHINGTON — Once thought to be solidly behind President Barack Obama, younger voters burdened by a bleak employment picture, high gas prices and student loan debt are being aggressively wooed by the Democrat and his likely Republican challenger, Mitt Romney.
In 2008, Obama had a 34-point advantage over Republican Sen. John McCain among voters under age 30. He won about two-thirds of the vote in that age group.
But a new Harvard poll suggests the president may face a harder sales job with younger voters this time around. Obama led Romney by 12 points among those ages 18-24, according to the survey. Among those in the 25-29 age group, Obama held a 23-point advantage.
To keep that advantage among young voters, Obama is campaigning to keep interest rates on student loans at their current level. Unless Congress takes action by July, those rates are scheduled to double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. According to Obama, “that’s basically a $1,000 tax hike for more than 7 million students across America.”
However, the House Republican budget makes no provision for such a change, which puts Romney in a bit of a pickle. Should he side with House Republicans, or should he side with college students and recent college graduates? On Monday, he made his choice.
“Particularly with the number of college graduates that can’t find work or that can only find work well beneath their skill level, I fully support the effort to extend the low interest rate on student loans,” Romney told reporters.
Basically, Romney decided that the best way to beat Obama was to copy from him, at least on this issue. Maybe the strategy will work; maybe it won’t. But I suspect it would work at least a little bit better if Romney could also pull off something like this:

Nothing about Romney says young voters. The only attractive candidate the Republicans had for the youth was Paul who is diametrically opposite of Romney. Now if you are a rich young person I advise you to vote for Romney to protect your position, because being born into wealth is about the only way the Romney administration is going to help any young person. I not even sure the Republican Party believes in education more less wants to pay for it. Obama came thought a system that helped him get a Harvard education, and become president of the United States, a black man. Romney came from wealth and thinks he hit a triple, how can the truth be any more plain. Who would a young person most like to emulate or want to in this group, the lucky sperm club Romney or the pioneer that made it to the promise land Obama. It ain’t rocket science here but money can distort a lot of communication and truth.

Further, Bruno, Romney is the ultimate BSer. He hasn’t had a single policy position that has been consistent, because he is changing his positions to be whatever he thinks people want to hear. He’s not interested in governing, he’s only interested in winning. He comes off as someone who just wants “President of the United States” on his resume.

So you associated with LDS for years. Lots of people associate with Catholics or Episcopalians for years, might have a Bible or a Book of Common Prayer, go to vacation bible school and still not have the ability to go into detail about the Nicene Creed or Trinity.
Your comments indicate you haven’t a clue (or if you do, you’re just piling on) about that faith’s distinction between what they call “Mormon folklore” and doctrine, the musings of people that others mistake for official positions, and the difference between imagery and literalism in their texts.
Matter of fact, it’s pretty common, regardless of one’s faith, to attend services and do superficial readings for decades and still haven’t a clue about the real meanings of their faith, aside from the type of superficial responses I read here.
You might consider relating something from the writings of Dr. Hugh Nibley or Blake Ostler. You know all about them and how their remarks relate to your comments without doing a Google search, right?

Let me put it this way. I’ve had hours of discussions with lifelong LDS and found a fair number of them unable to go into any depth on their faith. As one guy I spoke with last week led off “we send tens of thousands of young men and women out into the world and they, with all good intentions, teach all manner of false doctrine…”
So you can see why I’m a bit skeptical, from the tone and content of your comments, to separate you from that category.
Of course, you could always lay off the ridicule and, references about Gov Romney’s faith and post stuff about his religion that’s actually relevant to his campaign for government service……

Paul: My experience with most Christians, Mormons included, family included, MYSELF included (at the time), is that there is more of an overarching “I believe in God and Jesus” thing going on, and less of an actual understanding of nuance beyond that. Whatever the preacher says is what the Bible says, even if that’s not actually the case. Whatever the community supports, you support. Whatever they think, you think. It’s a massive group think tank.
Start delving into the actual readings and teachings? Well, you are probably less likely to buy some of it. Whether that makes you reject religion wholesale or not is a different story.

That would be fun but the cons would make threats.
They kind of do already, so what’s there to lose?

“One further thing about John Roberts….. he and others like him have a long memory. Being lectured in a public venue by some upstart community organizer is no way to get your health care bill sustained or to overturn Arizona laws”
And if they let that influence their decision…which is SUPPOSED TO BE IMPARTIAL, then they should be removed from the court for dereliction of duty to the Constitution.

Paul – “So you can see why I’m a bit skeptical, from the tone and content of your comments, to separate you from that category.”
Don’t take my word for it, pick up a copy of the Doctrine and Covenants and read up on it for yourself. Also, In Primary, they specifically teach the history, philosphy and core beliefs of the Mormon faith. In addition, in case you missed my previous post, I lived at LDS ground central for over 25 years. I have many friends who served in the mission field, and I have studied the religion from both passive and participatory aspects. You still didn’t answer my question, you merely dismissed my knowledge and first had experience as nothing more than a casual observer, when clearly I have shown it to be otherwise.

The fact that you accuse Roberts et al of having no interity of office and are willing to forsake their oath to uphold the constitution is duly noted.

“One further thing about John Roberts….. he and others like him have a long memory. ”
Well let’s all hope that Roberts makes rulings based on law not whether someone said something about him in public……….
If not, I’m sure ole Kayaker wouldn’t want an “activist” Judge making rulings on the SC, would he?

71, will never, ever , ever get it.
He blames Obama for the current economic apocalyptic landscape out there instead of the men who actually set off the fiscal hydrogen bombs and brought the nation’s economy to it’s knees.
But in his parallel universe, Dick Fuld, Phil Gramm, Hank Paulson, Frank Raines, Angelo Mozilo, Alan Greenspan, Chris Cox, Joe Cassano (Mr. Credit Default Swap himself), George W. Bush and Lloyd Blankfein, among dozens of others are as imaginary as Yosemite Sam.
Stay ignorant, my friends…

Never said Roberts had no integrity in office or was unwilling to defend the Constitution. You assume a lot, do you not?

“Never said Roberts had no integrity in office or was unwilling to defend the Constitution. You assume a lot, do you not?”
Then what exactly does his long term memory and being called out in public have to do with the rulings you mentioned?

Actually, you did. It’s sad when someone can’t even comprehend what they, themselves, wrote.

I have a long history here of not invoking personal experience, jobs or anything as some kind of credibility test. I believe in arguments with supporting data.
That’s nice you lived amongst them at ground zero. Many sociologists lived for years amongst people of other cultures and wrote how little they understood.
You are aware a number of LDS scholars have written there is no such thing as a ‘Mormon Theology,” aren’t you? (You may want to do some reading at The Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research).
Or maybe you’d want to read an article or two by Nibley on the historicity of the temple in various cultures as it pertains to current LDS practices. You can find it at the Neil Maxwell Institute.
Or possibly you’d like to engage in a discussion of the ‘core’ belief of the Godhead after reading Ostler’s “The Fallacy of Fundamentalist Assumptions.”
I think that’s so much better to demonstrate an appreciation of the diversity of LDS thought than to say “I lived among them and talked with them a lot.” don’t you?

Tht was not an assumption. That was a deduction. Could also be called an interpretation of what your statement infered.
