That’s why I don’t leave, despite being invited by transplants on a regular basis to relocate myself where the political climate is more suited to my beliefs. WHY would I go somewhere that nobody understands me? I own it… the GOOD (and my responsibility to keep those things going), the BAD (and my responsibility to make sure those things go away for good), and the UGLY (sometimes things do get ugly, but we still have to get on with it.)

On December 23, 2011, my goddaughter, Jasmine Thar, a 16-year-old African American, was shot and killed while in my mother’s front yard in Chadbourn, North Carolina.

The message being sent is that you can shoot and kill someone like Jasmine and get away with it by simply claiming it was an accident.

Funny that I had not heard of that shooting in NC. My in-laws are from Chadbourn, and I was in that area right around that time last year. Gotta go back and ask my mother-in-law about that one. I was up there twice in December, and the 2nd time would have been right around that time. From what I’ve read so far, there were three people hit by a single shot, and she was the only one that did not survive.

The media are a lot more “responsible” than they’d ever like to admit. Sensationalism sells and gets the Pulitzers.

I was talking to some folks from back home. The Georgia, Alabama and Arizona anti-immigrant laws are all the rage. So, where’s the story that Mississippi refused to pass its? It just isn’t news. It’s not sensational enough.

I brought up to al Shariff the findings of the census on the composition of the American family. This is the first time we are able to come up with ZamVet’s much heralded data relative to same sex households and children. Guess what? Mississippi and Florida, among other Southern states, are heads and shoulders above the rest of the country in the number. When it comes to mixed race marriages, same thing. But…but…that’s not “news…” Coulda fooled me.

After the trigger was pulled. Sanford is not a big town and there was a lot of 911 dialogue recorded over what seemed to be several minutes that could have had police in the community sooner but this is only a supposition on my part.

Based on the initial report, the first officer was likely already in the neighborhood when the shot was fired. The time listed on the report is the same as the time of the 911 calls. It could be bad paperwork, but that is also supported by at least one of the 911 calls. One person calling in to report the shot talked about seeing flashlights within the first minute of the call. The second officer that responded also mentioned things in his accounting that would make it seem like they were there within a min or two of the shooting.

I’m going off of what I read from their reports and what I heard on the 911 tapes. I don’t think there has been a definite timeline put out with all the events on a single timeline though.

I’ve never taken a headcount or calculated percentages but we have regular attenders and I would presume church members from the minority community in the church on Sunday mornings. One of the soloists from the choir is Black. The majority though of attendees are white folks.

A lot of Blacks, Asians and Hispanics in our church this morning as there is most Sunday mornings.

One church does not negate the segregation of thousands of other churches. I’ve even heard religious leaders state the same thing about Sunday morning segregation.

It might get tossed or it might go to trial. If it’s the latter there will need to be a change of venue in my opinion. I’m by no means an expert but I would think there could very well be a plea bargain down to a greatly reduced offense with no prison time.

I think there’s far more than what people think they know. The big problem that I can see for the prosecution is that the city of Sanford made too much info available to the public. Any conviction obtained would have an instant avenue for appeal because of that.

This is far from being just a Christian country. We have Jews, Muslims, Hindus and non-believers. However, in my post, I never said anything about this being a Christian country.
Nor did I say that civil and moral obligations are polar opposites.
Nor did I say black Americans spend all their time talking about white America.
Their is a lot of division in American between Blacks, Whites, Asians, Jews and Hispanics. I do not think it is all the white man’s fault. What I wanted to hear from you is there is probably enough blame to go around for eveyone.

All they need to do is find twelve people, plus two alternates, who will say they have no opinions on what happened and whether the defendent is guilty or innocent. They don’t have to be totally without any knowledeg of the case. A lot of people don’t listen to the news or read the paper, and some don’t form conclusion without hearing all the evidence. I think they will try it if anywhere in Sanford.

And, as far as Zimmerman is concerned, he is where he belongs, in jail. If it were up to me, he would not get any bail.
Because of the evidence either lost of tainted due to the amount of time between the shooting and his being jailed, and because of that crazy “stand your ground” law, I think he will probably be found guilty of manslaughter.
Now, if we could only get justice for Ervin Jefferson.

It came about in Texas following the Brown decision. There wasn’t a term available to counter the previous segregation of “Messicans.” The courts decided that there needed to be a class terminology, so bingo!

While waiting for your answer I went to google and read some on the subject.

Looks like people become a race when they get to be a large enough group to either consider themselves to be a separate cultural-ethnic group, or to be considered by the majority as such.

At one point people of spanish descent were consided by the census as white. And the name of the group has changed several times.

It’s all somewhat ridiculous. The only “race” in the United States required to “prove it” are the Indians…no CDIB card? Then you ain’t an Indian…no gubmint welfare for you…

They don’t come to the Church of Holiness because they want to be with their own kind. See, those laws back in the 50s and early 60s took that into account.

From the mid 50’s till now there has been a constant drumbeat from the black community for civil rights. In all this time, never once have I heard any civil rights leader ever speak about CIVIL RESPONSIBILITY. As for the Travon Martin case, civil rights leaders protested vigorously for the arrest of Zimmerman. If Travon’s shooter had been black, we would not have heard a peep out of them. Scout’s point, the arrest not withstanding, is that there is a serious double-standard in this country when it comes to black on black crime and white on black crime.
Get off your high horse, stop insulting us about lack of basic mental capacity, and maybe you will start to understand the situation.
