“A lot of us who were around him before and didn’t think this was a good idea from the beginning were worried this was the way it was going to end. He’s in danger, I think, of becoming a laughingstock.”
– Rich Galen, former staff member for Newt Gingrich, quoted in Politico
The sense of personal destiny that has driven Newt Gingrich throughout his life, the deep and defining belief that he was fated to do great things and write his name in large letters upon the history books, has finally run aground on the sharp shoals of reality. And that is a hard thing for the former speaker and Georgia congressman to accept.
He has no money and in fact his campaign is deeply in debt. He lacks the resources to travel, let alone buy campaign ads, and the press has abandoned him, raising the age-old question: If a man utters pearls of profound wisdom, and no one is there to hear him, did he really utter them at all? Yet still he presses on, insistent against all evidence that he remains relevant. As he told Fox this week, “I have no incentive to get out because I have a set of ideas that include $2.50-a-gallon gas, etc. So I have every incentive to stay in.”
I’m sorry: “$2.50-a-gallon gas” is not an idea, it is an ill-disguised pander inconsistent with reality. Newt’s inability to distinguish between an idea and a pander betrays a lot about how he thinks, and about why he has fallen so short of his dreams.
To give the man his due, Gingrich has fashioned a political career that by most standards would be considered a huge success. He truly did shock the political world when he led a Republican revolution in 1994 that ended the Democrats’ death grip on the House of Representatives. He was enormously gifted, possessed with a clever mind and one of the sharpest tongues in American political history. And his strong sense of personal destiny insulated him against doubts that might have haunted other men.
But a clever mind is not a wise mind. A man so easily distracted by shiny intellectual objects, flitting from one idea to the next, can never attain the depth suggested by the most prominent words in the Gingrich vocabulary, such as “profound” and “fundamental.” And those who are equipped to lead heady revolutions are almost never equipped for the day-to-day drudgery required to govern and to build.
However, the fatal flaw that ensured that Gingrich would never satisfy the ambition that burned within him was his basic lack of respect for other people. The contempt that he showered upon opponents in public life was reflected in his private life as well, and also in how he treated colleagues and staff. He showed little loyalty and earned little loyalty, and in politics as in life, that makes long-term success very difficult.

I really think it was just bad timing. Newt obviously thought that the general public had finally dumbed down enough to where they’d believe any BS line he could throw out. Unfortunately, only SC and GA had reached the level of intelligince needed for a Gingrich victory. Maybe he can try again in 20 years.

Take that Callista Gingrich he pork barreled into this deal with him. If it was possible to make a more negative impression she insured it. The third wife of a family values candidate, just shows how weak the Republican field is to not have this slugger in the pits already. And the moral substance of a right wing southern voting block that Newt milked about as long as anyone this side of a prison cell could. Making the candidate a laughing stock is the least thing on my mind, he has insulted his party, his country and Christians who deserve a huge amount of the blame for this freak lasting this long.

Talking about FOX when does Murdock get off the bus too. PBS this week went inch by inch on how he has controlled and contrived the British government dictating winners and losers in the political arena from his offices in Australia. He uses the raw soap opera emotions of the population, feeds them raw meat and hacks victims telephones, in a criminal display of arrogance that rivals Newt’s. This makes so little sense until you add FOX to the picture and then you see a monkey in a show making money for his handlers. Cane did the same thing for WSB. These people have put on a blind campaign for the polyester crowd to tune in for a reality show that is making them millions, and our government a mockery.

One of the great tragedies of Leroy was how he started out so solidly but then lost his way not long into his political career.
The young political candidate sought support from labor unions. He castigated corporations for “raping” the environment.
Local newspaper coverage from the time shows that Gingrich was endorsed in 1976 by the state affiliate of the National Education Association and, his former supporters say, the Communications Workers of America.
At times, Gingrich made statements that might be cheered today by Occupy Wall Street protesters. For example, he denounced the corporate profits accrued by oil companies and said the companies needed to open their records for inspection.

Hey zeke, this also was in the last months of the W. administration:
The worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. And like the Great Depression, the 2008 version began in the United States, but soon spread around the world.
With the bankruptcy of the large investment bank Lehman Brothers. More banks failed. World stock markets plunged. Panic selling ensued. Companies collapsed or laid off workers — more than 500,000 jobs were lost in the United States in November alone.
The former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, put the unfolding drama into perspective in September when he called it a “once-in-a-century type of financial crisis.”
Iceland’s banking system collapsed in October, forcing it to ask for help from the International Monetary Fund.
The collapse of the U.S. auto industry, one of the backbones of American industry.
In the United States alone, it’s estimated that the government’s bailout effort has cost $8.5 trillion…and counting.

It is not JUST the left or JUST the right that calls people names. That does not, however, make both sides equivalent across the board. It just so happens the side of truth is on the left side regarding most arguments in the past 4 or so years.
Let’s be clear – if you base your entire platform, or most of it, on having to LIE in order to get your way, that’s built on a house of cards. It will come down eventually, no matter how skilled you are at stacking those cards. Let’s also be clear, I’m talking about THE RIGHT. If you want to make such a claim about the left, show me your evidence and I’ll show you mean.
Let’s start with “Who started the contraception debate?” For my evidence, I present first, Rick Santorum on October 2011. When did Stephanopholus (sic) ask his “famous” question?
Let’s then move on to the “most Americans don’t want the health care law” argument, for which I present this as evidence that they actually do: http://m.static.newsvine.com/servista/imagesizer?file=steve-benen7E111609-608B-74FC-7167-F305002B5963.jpg&width=600

His run for Prez was DOA. It would be like Nancy Pelosi running for Prez. A Speaker of the House (or head of the Senate, for that matter) is a magnet for hate and discontent. If you do your job right, you engender enemies on both sides of he aisle. It is why the mayor of large cities rarely move into state or national politics. You make deals and twist arms that, while successful in that position, leaves you unelectable for higher office.

He truly did shock the political world when he led a Republican revolution in 1994 that ended the Democrats’ death grip on the House of Representatives. Students of history know to beware of those who have a “sense of personal destiny” and use politics as their vehicle. History is filled with characters like this who fulfill their destiny at the brutal expense of the people. George W. Bush had such a sense of personal destiny that he actually thought God wanted him to be President. Obamacare battles are is a lose-lose for the right: If the law gets struck down in whole or in part, it makes health insurance more expensive and repeals certain good provisions in the law. If the law remains, they lose because they spent all this time making the entire law all about Obama, handing him a win for the 2012 election.

Newt can be an effective strategist. However, he tends to turn the cannons on his own troops from time to time. If nothing else, he was an entertaining distraction, but now it’s time for him to get out of the way. I hope that he doesn’t devolve into a right wing Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson- simply looking for any opportunity to get in front of the camera to spew diatribes without doing any homework in a feeble attempt to remain relevant. I lived in New York during the Tawana Brawley incident and I hope that the Trayvon case doesn’t end up like that. Unfortunately, Al Sharpton sure is using some of the same rhetoric.

Why aren’t their constituency demanding to know what “replace” means?
Like I stated yesterday….. They have no comprehensive plan. It was a slogan the entire time. Just as the Republicans and their constituency say that Obama and the Dems sell their voters a “bill of goods”…… they have done the same to theirs on this issue and most don’t even care that they were lied too

First of all, they are not “my representatives”. The current republican party does not have a clear message on what they would do or how to fix it, and that is very frustrating. Politics suck. But you are absolutely right that they should work together to fix this. The funding is key of course. Same principle applies to any good or service. Eliminate the Federal Mandate to provide healthcare if you don’t have insurance or cash.
That would be an incentive to get insurance or would begin weeding out all those would be moochers.

Sure. That’s why it’s called “legislation,” and not “amending the constitution” or suchlike. I don’t think anyone who supported the ACA ever imagined it would go untouched throughout its planned implementation; for all the tough talk surrounding any bill (remember the debt ceiling deal? how all those crazy cuts were just going to auto-magically kick in?), there’s always going to be tweaking and changes. Although I may not agree with his positions on everything, I do know that he inherited a collosal mess, and given the circumstances, he’s done about as well as anyone could. His handling of terrorism, of which I had great concerns, has been nothing short of stellar. And as a politician, he has at least tried to do what he said he would do, even though you might not everyone would agree with him completely. Peadawg: Actually it’s a terrible idea. The reason that came about was because it was impossible to verify someone had insurance in many ER situations, such as the person being unconscious or unable to respond. In such a case, if the law did not say they have to treat anyway, then they would basically let that person die if they didn’t have their insurance information on them somewhere.
This law of requiring treatment regardless of ability to pay already affirms that we, as a country, accept emergency health care as a right.

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. …We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.”

For example, I’m thinking about letting you all get your picture took with me. And I’ll only charge you $25—that’s a huge discount just because you’re my friends. Except for one blogger that has me and that poor guy named Helen Thomas on his hate list. I said over and over the day that Barry was elected that the Republican Party should start to rally around Romney, and find a stratagey that would get him elected. All I have seen in the last 3 years is hate and discontent in the Republican Party. Newt, as a proffesor of history, knew that he couldn’t be elected. Sure he has done some good work, but he has left a trail of destruction also. Newt, Santorium and others have besmirched the Republican Party so much that the whole party is a laughingstock. I just wish Newt would think of his dignity and just quit. There is no shame in playing the game and losing.

Bottom line for Newt is that he’ll attempt to stay relevant – whatever that may mean to him – until after Nov 6 – so that he can say ‘I told you so’ after Romney and the rest of the Repugs go down in flames…then Calista can dump him for the ‘next bidder’.

I can understand the mindset behind straight-party voting. People don’t track the issues, assume the party stands for what it’s always stood for, they go in the booth and pull the lever.
But this seems different. People are following the issues. They repeat whatever they hear without thinking about it. If inconsistencies are pointed out, they repeat louder. Then they go ahead and vote for the party anyway.

Mick,
I just deal in facts sir. From the day O stepped into office until now we have gone another 5 trillion in debt. Just the facts sir.
As for the price of gas of course O can’t set the price of oil. We all know that. But he can sure help us increase supply and hence lower price via this thing called the law of supply and demand. Perhaps you’ve heard of it.
Secondly if the president has no way of influencing oil prices then why is it that world oil dropped by $10 a barrel the day after W lifted the moratorium on drilling in the gulf? Explain this to me sir.
Thirdly as has been discussed many a times the reason oil is so high is because its being bought in dollar denominated purchases. The dollar has lost half its value since O came into office. That is called a fact sir. And the factors influencing the loss of the dollar are the money printing machine under O and of course the escalating debt under O which has hurt the dollar substantially. So does O hold some personal responsibility for the loss of value of the dollar and hence more costly gas? Your damn right he does. Only a moron could think otherwise.

“perhaps you’ve heard of this thing called “proportion.” as in, the proportion of new energy supplies coming online from domestic sources, and their ability to actually affect this thing called “supply and demand.”
Yes. And thank you for making my point for me. Because being a believer in the law of supply and demand then you therefore understand that if we were bringing oil online all along in places such as the artic sea, anwr, keystone, etc. that the increased world supply of oil would lower prices. Glad to see we agree with supply and demand.
“perhaps you’ve also heard of this thing called market speculation, which is how the prices are actually determined.”
Yes. And perhaps you’ve learned something with the fact that when W lifted the gulf moratorium oil dropped by $10 a barrel overnight. A fact the lib kooks still refuse to address. Makes ya wonder what would happen if we went all out and sent signals to the world oil markets that we were going to actually start ramping up our drilling.
“or, maybe you’re just a gullible sort who really believes if you drill here, drill now, you’ll pay less.”
And maybe you’re just ignorant enough to still not understand the laws of supply and demand. If oil demand has risen in the last year or 2 from 86-88 million barrels a day to 90 million barrels with no corresponding increase in supply then how is it that your mind is incapable of understanding the simple fact that if an extra 2-4 million barrels of supply were produced that supply would match demand and hence keep prices stable.

“They can be impeached. But not for not reading the text of a bill. I was stretching a little on that part. All federal judges can be impeached but the standard for impeaching them is pretty high.”
In the one and only impeachment trial of a Supreme Court justice in 1801, the Senate allowed itself to be persuaded by the justice’s defense attorney that “high crimes and misdemeanors” had to be an
indictable offense. That set a precedent which has been followed ever since. I suppose that the Congress could at any time change its mind and impeach a justice for something else, but that would require considerable resolve. As a consequence of this trial, the SCOTUS, emboldened by the effective removal of the threat of impeachment, arrogated to itself the right of judicial review two years later in the Marbury case – something they did not have previously. So the Senate, in effect, handed the keys to the car over to the SCOTUS. That is why the SCOTUS has been making de facto law for decades upon decades.

Just another inconvenient fact you have to deal with. As for the tax cuts causing W deficits his share of the debt is on him. No one is saying W wasn’t part of the problem.
“How’s about the interest on the debt?”
Hows about the new interest on the new 5 trillion in debt under O?
“I guess the stock market regaining all its lost value has nothing to do with obama but the value of a dollar does?”
It has to do with corporate America laying off people, cutting the fat so to speak, curtailing expansion and new operations which are cash hogs. They have become cash cows not willing to expand under O. That is why the markets are near highs again while unemployment remains high and overall economic growth anemic at best. Do you question the terrible facts concerning economic growth and unemployment under O? Do you sir?

“The same people that pay for Medicaid now. Or didn’t you know Medicaid was a poor person medical program?”
Adam,
I was watching a discussion on the news the other night about Obamacare. Its no secret that in Obamacare that millions of people would be moved to the Medicaid rolls. What you have to understand is that the states can’t afford it. On average medicaid eats up 22% of state budgets and to put millions more on medicaid won’t work. The states simply do not have the money for it.

“Incidental to your question – guy from Heritage who came up with individual mandate was on Fox yesterday at lunchtime. Said they’d abandoned the idea and now favor…. are you ready for this? Subsidies!”
The problem underlying the idea of a mandate is indisputable: there are a considerable number of people who are unwilling to buy health insurance if they are young and healthy. And that is disastrous to the health insurance industry and to all of the rest of us. So I think it is obvious people need to be compelled to buy insurance. But how to do it? I am thinking that if you remove the “safety net” introduced in the Reagan era (of being treated at an ER no matter what) and spend time and money impressing upon people that they will NOT receive medical care without insurance, then that might work. Those who still elect not to obtain insurance will have pay out of their own pockets (an some clearly can). Of course, this means that insurance will also have to be affordable for all. But I am confident this could be accomplished as well.

The media’s rush to judgment and Sharpton, Jackson et al stirring up emotions along with so many on the left jumping to the conclusion about Zimmerman’s guilt not to mention this black panther idiot have turned people off. IF the Fed gov’t can mandate that a citizen purchase a product from a private company, then you can’t HONESTLY say that from now UNTIL the end of time they won’t/can’t do it again with another product.
And you can’t honestly say they didn’t already have that power affirmed through previous SCOTUS rulings.
So, that means you can’t HONESTLY say in response to the question “what else can/will the gov’t mandate a pvt citizen to purchase”
Ah, but it wasn’t “can/will,” it was just “will.” Had can been in there I would have said they “can”, but I don’t think they will, because they haven’t since the 1942 case of Wickard v. Filburn.

Inciting others to violence is wrong, period. And often criminal. What Lee did is scary, because he is a celebrity with a much wider audience – thereby, I would think, increasing the likelihood that a totally innocent couple might have been seriously harmed. He not only was attempting to indirectly incite violence, he was unwittingly doing it against the wrong people. Dang…that is scary. I guess I had better not tick off Sean Penn.

No, I’m saying:

2) If I disagree with someone in Congress enough, I will either not vote for them, or if I like what the one of the challengers wants to do instead, I will vote for them. But I won’t vote for the other person if I deem them to be just as bad or worse.

If you read history Mick we outlawed the speculation a long time ago by I think making them take delivery. So what happened? Yes, it is difficult to speculate on what a McCain administration would have done differently to avoid adding trillions in new debt as a result of the recession, but not useless.
Fact is, those who lambast Obama would in all likelihood have nearly the same situation, give or take a trillion, under a Republican administration.
It became apparent a few months into the new administration the crisis was broader and deeper than initially thought. None of the classical responses would have made much difference. Millions were out of work, receipts were down, obligations were up.
So I can understand the concern over the debt. But I also realize people are being ignorant or dishonest if they assert it would have been much different under a Republican administration.

The ‘come on’ was in reference to the answer that the feds will take over the majority of the Medicare payments for the states. Current fed debt situation does not change that.
I always like to look at how cost arguments are structured. In brief (as I’m working under two deadlines) I’ve a feeling what’s being counted as a ‘new’ cost under Obamacare is nothing more than reclassifying costs that are already being incurred but paid for by someone else. Simple, simple example is people with no insurance have huge amounts written off and/or absorbed by others. Now that those costs are going to be tracked under Medicare, people act as if it’s something new that never before existed.

I despise Hillary as a pathological liar. But personal weaknesses aside there is no question she would have been much better than O. She has more of a pragmatist streak in her and I think Bill would have advised her greatly. She learned a lot from his presidency and I think that gave her much more competency for the job than O who was the single most unqualified man to ever attain the job.
As for Romney my only fear is that he will govern as a RINO and try to be like W in pleasing everyone all the time and wanting to be liked too much. When you look at W he actually added a lot of social spending that people don’t realize. My fear is that Romney would do the same. I like Romney much better than O though because he at least understands private enterprise and the undue burden that Obama’s regulatory environment is placing on business.

Since you accused me of the same yesterday, on the basis of flawed reasoning (you thought I started talking about dress in response to Trayvon’s shooting when it was actually in response to Congressman Rush’s actions) and without any real proof (though I challenged you to go through my posts and find it – to out up or shut up), I think I am starting to see a pattern that is disturbing.

Well, last nite I watched that tape of Zimmerman at the killing scene and at the police station. And all I got to say is, he’s the only man in history with clear, dry blood. I looked at that red jacket and it was so clean it looked like he just picked it up at a dry cleaners. There was no wet spot on it, front or back. And he never swole up at all from that broke nose. There was no mark or swelling on his face—not a cut anyplace.
Now I’m just a redneck, but it seems to me somebody’s lying. Even I know that if you get cut on the head or your nose starts bleeding, it’s going to bleed all over the place. And if you get get a broke nose, you’re going to bleed like a stuck pig and start swelling up.
The police report says he got a broke nose and a cut on his head. If that police report is right, Zimmerman’s the only man in the history of the world with clear blood that’s dry. And that red jacket looked plenty dry in the back to me. It must be my lyin’ eyes. Either that or somebody done the best cleanup job in history in 5 or 10 minutes.
This Zimmerman don’t want me on his jury,

Doomy, as a kid who grew up in a farming community in Kansas, I feel obligated to correct a huge stereotype.
Pigs do not like living in filthy conditions.
Who ever said pigs were dirty?? Actually, they are clean. The reason some people think they are dirty is due to the fact pigs like to roll in the mud. but, they like this mainly in the hot summer months. By rolling in the mud, this cools them off. Pigs are extremely sensitive to heat and can suffer from sunburn and heat stroke just like a person can. Wading in water and mud helps keep the pigs from getting over heated, also helps control parasites.
But, again, pigs do not like being in the mud 24 hours a day.
If fresh straw is put in their house (which it should be) they keep their house very clean, they do not urinate or defecate in their house. So straw in their house will last quite a while. In fact, pigs prefer to sleep on clean dry straw at night.
I get upset when I see people putting pigs in dirty muddy houses, Pigs DO NOT like this.

Shots were fired in the house, but not at the guards. Both guards were arrested, but later released. As for being “clear cut”, that is far from the truth in both cases.
If you went up to Ervin’s grieving parents and said “there is NOTHING” similar in the two cases”, what do you think they would say?
Please tell me the fact that Trayvon’s shooter was Hispanic-white and Ervin’s was black is not part of your logic in this.

BUllCrap! A few years earlier Kathryn Johnston, elderly black female, was gunned down in her own home by APD’s Drug Unit; the majority of the unit is BLACK, perhaps you must’ve missed the demonstrations and public outcries on her behalf, but they were all over the local news and papers.

WASHINGTON — Global warming is leading to such severe storms, droughts and heat waves that nations should prepare for an unprecedented onslaught of deadly and costly weather disasters, an international panel of climate scientists said in a new report issued Wednesday.
The greatest threat from extreme weather is to highly populated, poor regions of the world, the report warns, but no corner of the globe — from Mumbai to Miami — is immune. The document by a Nobel Prize-winning panel of climate scientists forecasts stronger tropical cyclones and more frequent heat waves, deluges and droughts.
In the past, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, founded in 1988 by the United Nations, has focused on the slow inexorable rise of temperatures and oceans as part of global warming. This report by the panel is the first to look at the less common but far more noticeable extreme weather changes, which lately have been costing on average about $80 billion a year in damage.

Debbiedoright,
I think what the poster and other posters are saying in relation to the Trayvon shooting is that its a curious that the black community becomes so incensed and outraged over a shooting such as the Trayvon shooting or the Kathryn Johnston disaster.
In both cases the community is outraged over the cops and or a Hispanic man shooting an unarmed black person. The Johnson case was particularly horrible. But the point is that the black community doesn’t seem so outraged when its black on black murder.
As an example it was Booby rush who wore the hoodie in Congress the other day. He represents the soutside of Chicago where not even 2 weeks ago on St. Patties day there were 47 shooting, mostly black on black gang violence, and 13 or 14 people were killed including a 6 year old girl was killed when her house was sprayed with an AK 47. Seems kinda odd to me that Mr. Rush is so indignant and angry over a shooting 1500 miles away but doesn’t seem to give a damn about all these murders in southside Chicago in one weekend.
There’s something deeper at play in the black community when they are so passive about everyday black on black murder or black on white murder but are so outraged at the occasional white on black murder. Can you explain this?

When the wheels of justice move as it should, why should there be any additional outrage? There were arrests made in the shooting by the security guards, there was an arrest made in the Jackson State shooting. The outrage from the Trayvon Martin incident came AFTER the authorities appeared they were going to try to sweep things under the rug, just as it was the case with Mrs. Johnson.
Instead of wondering why there isn’t outrage every time somebody’s shot, it would be much better to understand WHY the outrage is there in the first place. That would make things so much clearer….

But that’s just ludicrous Doomy. In one case the police break down a womans door in the middle of the night and shoot her dead. In the other case, a couple of security guysrespond to shots fired, get fired upon and shoot a guy. In Trayvons case he is walking to the damn store to get some skittles and an Arizona tea and is stalked by some fat weirdo wannabe and killed.

Once again the right/cons try to deflect. The Treyvon Martin case is news because no prosecution was taking place and because it calls into question a law which is being passed in many states and was the precise situation that legislators were warned about. Only the foolish make claims that some communities are not upset about other crimes. Address the injustice and then address the issues raised by the other cases.

How did they try to “sweep things under the rug”. The lead investigator did not believe Z and referred it to the DA. The DA looked at it and according to the law decided that there just wasn’t enough evidence to secure a conviction. You are misinformed. What the black community is outraged over is the lack of police investigation. There should be some sort of investigation when a seemingly innocent person is shot down for no apparent reason. Be they black, white, gray or blue. But when there’s NO investigation, there is a perceived issue of a “coverup”. Something the black community has been victim of for decades.
In both cases the community is outraged over the cops and or a Hispanic man shooting an unarmed black person. The Johnson case was particularly horrible. But the point is that the black community doesn’t seem so outraged when its black on black murder.
Refer to my answer above. Also, please refer to my earlier post where I stated that the majority of the APD’s Drug Squad is BLACK.
As an example it was Booby rush who wore the hoodie in Congress the other day. ……………………… mostly black on black gang violence, and 13 or 14 people were killed ………………. Seems kinda odd to me that Mr. Rush is so indignant and angry over a shooting 1500 miles away but doesn’t seem to give a damn about all these murders in southside Chicago in one weekend.
There are NUMEROUS “Stop The Violence” campaigns in every State in America. The problem is most media outlets don’t cover those as aggressively as they cover everything else. You don’t hear about the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s “Stop The Violence” Rallies, but you DO hear about people being killed. You don’t hear about the Black Churches going into the community and trying to curb the violence within our own communities; but you do hear about that. You only hear about the bad things. You can pick a Black Church in the “hood”—any church, call then up; and ask them about what they’re doing about violence in the community; and 9 outta 10 times they have a program; a system, or something already in place.
There’s something deeper at play in the black community when they are so passive about everyday black on black murder or black on white murder but are so outraged at the occasional white on black murder. Can you explain this?
For my answer, please refer to the paragraph above.

“Instead of wondering why there isn’t outrage every time somebody’s shot, it would be much better to understand WHY the outrage is there in the first place.”
Exactly. But someone not being arrested dose not explain Lee’s actions statements like those of Waters. One gets the sense there is a smoldering anger in many blacks that is unresolved. If that is the case, then they need to realize that only they have the power to resolve it. Incessant apologies and amends from whites who had nothing to do with past horrible evils will not resolve it. The KKK and all of its ilk was a terrorist organization, terrorizing not only black but many whites who had a conscience. It was almost as bad as Al Qaeda is today. But everyone is victimized in this life by someone. You don’t have to be black to be subjected to the evil actions of others. Women are raped, children are sexually or physically abused, people are maimed, etc.

Fred,
I don’t disagree with you. In the Johnson case its a clear cut example of police incompetence and just flat out mistakenly killing someone and then if I remember correctly trying to cover it up.
The Trayvon case is a little different. Z instigated things by following T and confronting him. At that point it changes and supposedly Z then walked away from T. At that point T allegedly attacked Z and was on top of him and according to an eyewitness was whupping his ass and pounding Z’s head into the concrete. And that’s when Z pulled his gun and shot T.
Sure Z instigated the whole thing but if he turned away it was then incumbent on T to also turn away and leave the scene. Allegedly he attacked Z which changes things. I dunno. Still a lot to go through. They will go through the 9/11 tapes, the gap in between the shot being fired and all that and maybe determine a little better if Z shot because he really was in fear of his life or if he just plain shot because he could.
And one last thing. No damn excuse for all the people calling up Z’s 70 year old parents and harassing them, sending them hate mail, calling in death threats, putting a bounty on Z’s head, etc. Or what happened to the folks whose address Spike Lee tweeted. This is shameful behavior and a mob behavior by a lot of people who just want blood. The people doing this including Sharpton, Lee, Jackson, etc. they don’t want justice. They want blood, vengeance, and in their views they have already up and decided its murder without any due process. They don’t even care to listen to the facts of the case and go through the process. There is little distinction between these people and the white lynch mobs that were murdering blacks 100 years ago.

Thulsa, when you say the DA felt the case lacked evidence for a conviction you have to realize that the crime scene wasn’t adequately investigated. You’re not gonna have enough evidence if you don’t thoroughly investigate. If Trayvon had had a weapon then I might agree but with no weapon that should have raised red flags and promted a closer look.

I know that President Taft served as a Supreme Court justice after leaving office as President, but I can’t think of any other Presidents who served in other high offices after their time as Chief Executive. As I understand it the police investigated and the lead detective, who didn’t believe Z, wanted the DA to prosecute if not for Murder 2 then for manslaughter. The DA looked at it and according to the law(stand your ground) he decided that there simply was not enough evidence for him to ever get a conviction. Not much more to say. If he knows he can’t get a conviction based on prevaling law then he just can’t and it just gets chalked up as a human tragedy.

Speaking of the KKK, when I was in college in Americus, Georgia it was announced that the Grand Wizard and the KKK would come down from Alabama and have a rally outside of town to protest Jammy Codder running for President. I had been in Georgia most of my life and had never known anyone in the KKK. Out of curiosity I decided to go see what these Alabama KKK did at a rally, so my roommate and I drove up to the announced rally and watched from a distance. There were several State Patrol cars and the Sheriff’s car was there in case trouble erupted. The KKK had bleacher type seating in a circle around a fire in the middle. They were walking around the fire in their sheeted “garb” ranting and raving about something we couldn’t hear or understand very well – as they had no microphones. After about 15 minutes we got bored and left. That’s the only time in my life I actually saw a real KKK.

If they wish to have him arrested, for defamation they can. But tweeting their address is not a crime; unless there is PROOF that violence was perpetrated against because of his actions. Even then, in Florida it’s a class C offense if he can prove that he didn’t know there would be violence directed against THEM; AND that he wasn’t purposely trying to harm THEM.

Towncrier, its been done by the anti-abortion groups for years including family member info, protesting as schools of their children and more. Websites with all sorts of personal info about all sorts of people in the medical profession, landlords and other information.
In the late 1990s, an organization called American Coalition of Life Activists (ACLA) was accused of implicitly advocating violence by its publication on its “Nuremberg Files” website of wanted-style posters, which featured a photograph of a physician who performed abortions along with a monetary reward for any information that would lead to his “arrest, conviction, and revocation of license to practice medicine”.[49] The ACLA’s website described these physicians as war criminals[50] and accused them of committing “crimes against humanity”. The web site also published names, home addresses, telephone numbers, and other personal information regarding abortion providers—highlighting the names of those who had been wounded and striking out those of who had been killed. Dr. George Tiller’s name was included on this list along with many others. The site was accused of being a thinly-veiled hit list intended to incite violence; others claimed that it was protected under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.[51] A 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision finally shut the site down in 2002 after a prolonged debate.[52] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violence#Physician_.22wanted.22_posters
This is not the only example. I am sure you can google more incidents including the NJ protest at a child’s school and there was I believe a political related case last year in VA with the wrong address of a candidate who’s brother’s home was sabotaged.

Doom you keep saying “Zimmerman said”…………..it’s utterly amazing to me.
Did you NOT see the video of him shortly after he was arrested that showed he didn’t have ANY blood on his clothing? No marks on his face, no grass stains, nada, zilch NOTHING?
I’m not a criminal defense person, BUT i do know that all interrogations are videotaped and i also know that if a possible suspect hurt during an investigation, the police MUST take the person to the E.R. to be checked out by a physician.
But it seems from the tapes that Zimmerman went “straight to the precint” to be questioned! If he was so hurt, why wasn’t he checked out and cleared at the hospital FIRST? That is common procedure. His injuries had to be documented so that they could be presented and labled as evidence.
What makes your whole but, but, but Zimmerman SAID…..defense so ridiculous is that you won’t even ENTERTAIN the thought that Zimmerman LIED.
He shot down some kid, found that the kid didn’t have a gun on him or any other weapon then he LIED to protect himself from prosecution.

Debbiedoright,
I don’t think they should be able to sue Mr. Lee and take every dime of his because of one mistake he made when his emotions were running high.
But I do agree he should have to pay a price for that sort of recklessness. Regardless of the address being wrong the only reason Lee would tweet their address is so that people can direct hate mail, threatening phone calls, or physical harm to these old people. He knew that when he tweeted what he thought was their address. To me he’s everybit the racepimping hatemonger that I believe Al Sharpton to be. The situation has become heated precisely because of people like Lee and Sharpton. May cooler heads prevail.

The lead investigator did not believe Z and referred it to the DA. The DA looked at it and according to the law decided that there just wasn’t enough evidence to secure a conviction.
When you take the word of someone over the preponderance of evidence, that has the appearance of sweeping things under the rug. As I stated earlier, when there are arrests, the wheels of justice appear to be working as they should. When someone refuses to even bring charges, that gives the family a bitter taste in their mouth.
Trust me. I’ve had that bitter taste before. I didn’t march or go to the media, but I’ve never forgotten who let my grandfather’s killer get off without as much as a citation for running a red light. My family had to swear out a warrant on the young lady just to get the police to arrest her too.

If that is the case, then they need to realize that only they have the power to resolve it. Incessant apologies and amends from whites who had nothing to do with past horrible evils will not resolve it.
First – and AGAIN, I do not speak for ALL BLACK PEOPLE; I can only speak for ME.
I have nephews, cousins, brothers, etc. who are or will be a BLACK MAN in America and 3 of my brothers are police officers as well as having served in the military AND having served their community as community Advisors on their days off. My father and Grandfather served, my family has a HISTORY of service to America, and in my Grands case, served in a SEGRATED Military, (i know it’s probably spelled wrong, but I’m not even gonna bother to look it up — gotta get outta here in a few).
What I’m trying to say that we ARE AMERICANS. No one is looking for an APOLOGY from anyone, what we’re looking for is EQUAL JUSTICE.
If i had the time, I’d give the names of Black men gunned down in the past five years because “they looked threatening”; who had no weapon, no history of violence, were productive members of society; and yet they’re dead because of POLICE BRUTALITY and/or someone like Zimmerman seeing a threat in every black man’s face.
My own brother, a POLICE OFFICER, was off-duty and went to pick up his god child who lived in the hood to take him out somewhere for the day. He was stopped, by a local Drug Squad guy, made to lie face down on the ground; when he tried to tell him “Hey I’m a cop!” was hit over the head with he butt of the policeman’s gun and was a trigger pull away from being shot in the head. What saved him? The other cop found his badge in the car.
But my brother represents A LOT OF BLACK MEN who are seen as a threat FIRST; then later seen as a citizen.
that is a sad state in America. It’s no better than thinking every Muslim is a terrorist.
And as an aside, something similiar to that story happens to HISPANIC MALES everyday too. Maybe 2 years back this happened to a returning Gulf War Vet in California by a BLACK COP. And yes, Black people can pre judge too.

First of all that video wasn’t close enough to really see anything. Secondly his lawyer said he did suffer a broken nose which you probably can’t tell from a video, adn thirdly his lawyer also detailed a laceration on the back of his head. Fourthly, I believe the police report itself states that he had grass stains on his back and if that’s true then we know for certain he was on his back. Fifthly it doesn’t matter if we don’t believe Z. An eyewitenss saw Trayvon on top of him beating him and Z was yelling help me, help me. The eyewitness testimony goes a long ways towards helping Z and it is kind of amazing to me how many people simply ignore what the eyewitness saw.

That goes for you as well. I am white, but I do not presume to speak about how whites in general feel – because there is a huge amount of diversity among them and a wide range of experience, upbringing, education, etc. I’m just having a hard time understanding the actions of Lee, Waters and the like and how they resonate with a number or people. If it’s not anger, bitterness and even hatred, what is it? They cannot be simplistically explained as a reaction to an arrest not being made. How does that prompt Waters to say Trayvon’s killing was a hate crime? How does that prompt Lee to incite mob violence against even the wrong people? When you can provide a better answer than “you need to probe more deeply and refrain from assumptions” then let me know. To the extent that exists, I would agree that it is a sad state of affairs. I wish I could change that. I am not personally responsible for it, but am surprised that, in this present age of information and almost immediate exposure, it persists. How do you deal with it? If my race had this problem, I would catch people in the act with video tape. If it is that prevalent, it should be easy to do (because people are predictable). You know, find a spot that policemen like to patrol, send a black man into that area late at night and video tape it. If racist behavior is recorded, sue the city. If that happens enough times, the loss of money will deter the bad behavior if appeals to conscience will not.

Both Zimmerman and Joran Vndersloot had immunity for murder charges on their home turf. Their dady’s were judges who knew how to manipulate the investigation. Charles Blow got it right last night – the police report supposedly prepared the night of the killing clearly identifies Trayvon by name and birthdate but we know his body laid in the morgue for three days as a John Doe.Clearly the reportwith uncorroborated witness statements of self defense and the fake report of Z. beaten and bleeding (not in the video leaked out) was fabricated several days later/ Zimmerman’s father gave an outrageous statement yesterday that Trayvon said “You are going to die tonight.” Yeah Trayvon was going to stuff that Arizona Ice Tea down his son’s throat along with the bag of Skittles. And Natalie Holloway forced Juran to have sex with her and died in the process.
At least Juran’s father died an early and untimely death.
