American people just not warming to Mitt

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll says a lot about the challenges facing Mitt Romney in his effort to remove Barack Obama from the White House.

wapoll

According to the poll, Romney faces a 17-point deficit among registered voters: 35 percent view him favorably, 52 percent view him unfavorably. The splits for Barack Obama are 53 percent favorable; 45 percent unfavorable.

Complicating matters even further, the more that people see Romney, the less they appear to like him. Back in September, just 31 percent of Americans viewed him unfavorably, which means it has jumped almost 20 points since then.

And as ABC News points out, “Romney’s rated favorably by 44 percent of Americans with incomes of $100,000 or more, 13 points better than his score among those with less-than middle incomes. Obama’s favorable ratings exceed 50 percent across income groups.”

In the history of the poll, only one major candidate has had higher unfavorable numbers than Romney. That was Hillary Clinton in April of 2008, with 54 percent of Americans viewing her unfavorably. At the time, 39 percent had a strongly unfavorable view of the former First Lady, which is no surprise since by that point she had been the target of an intense, 15-year demonization effort by conservatives.

(That’s useful to remember when conservatives now try to claim that they would have been much more supportive of a President Hillary Clinton than of a President Obama. No, they would not. In fact, part of Obama’s appeal to many liberals was the hope that he would not inspire the blind, angry antipathy directed at Hillary Clinton and before that at her husband. That hope proved vain.)

Justice Scalina wants to throw it all out. Justice Ruth G. wants to keep the good parts and throw out the bad. Justice B. probably will pass it.
Justices Kennedy and Roberts are hard to read and could go either way. I give 6-5 odds it will be thrown out.

it appears that certain aspects of the law have been scrutinized and some may say shredded…

With that said, pundits on both sides are cautioning that a justice’s comments and questions are not always a slam dunk indication of how they will vote

Ex: Kennedy’s comments and questions during the 1st half of the session would lead anyone to believe he was against , the 2nd half would lead the same person to say he hasn’t made up his mind

Thank-you for acknowleging that absolute fact that all of this occurred under the Bush administration. The same administration that failed on us on 911 and the same administration that was asleep at the wheel again, during a time when we were experiencing a financial attack on the economy inside of our borders and none of the leadership did anything until it was too late. Now the same Republican Party who was in charge during the initial start of this financial collapse wants to blame President Obama for this same ongoing financial crisis which was none of his making or creation.

The current assertions are that his decisions has made it far worse is a false straw man as well. All economic signs demostrate that due to his sole actions prevented further destruction of an already worsening economy.

I’m with you on Roberts…. I’m not sure if it will be this decision or others down the road, but I’ve always thought Roberts will not be the consistent right leaning guarantee that many on the right believe. Granted he will vote the vast majority of time with the right leaning justices, however I think he will have some surprises over the upcoming years.

Being left leaning, I wont pretend to say I’m a fan of all of his decisions on the Fed and SJC. but I think he is fair and open minded to what he sees and thinks is constitutional……..

Just my opinion…… but I like that guy….. even if he strikes down the law in question

Roberts is a hard man to dislike. In one way, upholding the law would be a conservative move, becuause the decision would be of sunh a benfit to the insurance industry and by result, the private sector. It would keep the private insurance industry in control of medical care.

Oscar, they won’t be able to blame ACA for the rising healthcare costs if ACA gets overturned either. And just wait till the insurance cancellation letters start going out to those with serious healthcare problems. It’s sure to come up in the debates.

Romney does well in one on one’s but you can’t meet everyone individually. Put him on a stage or behind a podium and he’s Mr. Stiffy. Nothing he can do about that. It’ll be a very negative campaign for Romney, the primaries have shown this but people are already getting tired of the negativity.

“Romney will never bridge that gap to the common person. The funny thing is that so many people will vote for him no matter what, as long as its not Obama, regardless of the benefit or detriment to the country. So sad.”

Substitute the name Obama for Romney, and vice versa, and you have my point.
