A new ABC News/Washington Post poll says a lot about the challenges facing Mitt Romney in his effort to remove Barack Obama from the White House.

According to the poll, Romney faces a 17-point deficit among registered voters: 35 percent view him favorably, 52 percent view him unfavorably. The splits for Barack Obama are 53 percent favorable; 45 percent unfavorable.
Complicating matters even further, the more that people see Romney, the less they appear to like him. Back in September, just 31 percent of Americans viewed him unfavorably, which means it has jumped almost 20 points since then.
And as ABC News points out, “Romney’s rated favorably by 44 percent of Americans with incomes of $100,000 or more, 13 points better than his score among those with less-than middle incomes. Obama’s favorable ratings exceed 50 percent across income groups.”
In the history of the poll, only one major candidate has had higher unfavorable numbers than Romney. That was Hillary Clinton in April of 2008, with 54 percent of Americans viewing her unfavorably. At the time, 39 percent had a strongly unfavorable view of the former First Lady, which is no surprise since by that point she had been the target of an intense, 15-year demonization effort by conservatives.
(That’s useful to remember when conservatives now try to claim that they would have been much more supportive of a President Hillary Clinton than of a President Obama. No, they would not. In fact, part of Obama’s appeal to many liberals was the hope that he would not inspire the blind, angry antipathy directed at Hillary Clinton and before that at her husband. That hope proved vain.)

“All else being equal, I’m not sure Romney has the personal appeal needed to turn them around.”
It’s over. O’bozo wins. Let’s just call off the election now.
Not so fast. Mitt is in a primary battle. The LSM is circling the wagons for their man while Mitt, Rick, and Newt are taking shots at each other. Once the nominee is decided, things change markedly.
Gas is $3.81. Unemployment is 8.3%. Obamacare will be declared unconstitutional. O’bozo and his LSM compatriots won’t say the word “stimulus.” O’bozo’s EPA has shut down new coal plants making AC prices necessarily skyrocket, as he desired. The debt continues to grow with no end in sight. Iran is getting the bomb.
Just some highlights for y’all.
Bottom line: long way to go. And polling “registered voters” is lame. Lamer still is quoting those polls.

I will concede that he does not have the degree of self-awareness he should have as a presidential candidate, or at least as much as you or I like. But he has been married to one woman for thirty something years and has five seemingly good kids. And an effective ad I saw for him recounts how he shut down a business to help one of his employees find his daughter missing in NYC. These are not the marks of an bad man.

William. Agreed, Steely Dan rocks. I saw them live a couple of years ago at the IronStone Vineyard in the Mother’s Lode old town of Murphy’s Camp in the Northern California foothills and they put on quite a show. The night was warm, we were in an outside amphitheater setting with tall pine trees surrounding us, and that rich Steely Dan sound drifted through the audience with the ease of pipe smoke. I recall three beautiful African-American young women in his group who gave magic to the word of harmony. Wow, what a night … it was vivid to me because I was wearing my tye-dye T-shirt from a concert featuring Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young a few years before. Too bad today’s music doesn’t have the same effect as the older groups who will remain classic. I’m just waiting for Fleetwood Mac to tour again so I can see them in Sacramento. “Long Live Rock & Roll.”

You may be right Jay, but I thought the pollsters would ask questions about how respondents voted in pervious elections to determine “likely” status. Knowing whether votes were cast in, say, the last few elections means more than just some random person saying he’s registered. Acorn anyone?

(Laughter.)
JUSTICE SCALIA: And do you really expect the Court to do that? Or do you expect us to — to give this function to our law clerks?
Is this not totally unrealistic? That we are going to go through this enormous bill item by item and decide each one?

Unfortunately, the bill is a monster and what holds most of it together is the individual mandate. If the mandate is ruled unconstitutional as appears quite possible it would be a colossal task for the Supreme Court to wade through all 2700 pages to determine what can be salvaged and what must go. I think if the mandate is overturned the bill goes back to Congress for rework.

Based just on the legislation signed into law, and nothing else, Bill Clinton is the most conservative president since Herbert Hoover.
Strange how things work out.

Have you seen this Democrat Bobby Rush that wore a hoodie to Congress today? Wow, talk about embarassing for Democrats. This guy can barely speak English.

Wow, talk about embarassing (sic) for Democrats.
Good job. You did manage to spell five of those six words correctly.
This guy can barely speak English.
Oh, the irony…

LOL Instant classic. Repeated here in it’s entirety in case anyone is stupid enough to miss the irony. I have learned the past couple of years to NEVER underestimate the stupidity of hard core fanatical Republicans………..

Who cares about Mitt. Obamacare is under fire. You know, that behemoth of fascist legislation that Democrats rammed through Congress in the middle of the night with no Republican support. Nancy Pelosi herself, House Speaker at the time, said it must be passed so we can find out what’s in it. Oh but wait! Now that Obamacare is under fire from SCOTUS, look who’s trying to spin it back on the GOP! One has to wonder how the justices are taking into account the fact that the current Congress is not the one that rammed this American economic Titanic through.
“The Obama administration is now referring to Obamacare as a ‘bi-partisan bill’ and calling the unpopular individual mandate “a Republican idea,’ following three days of tough questioning by the Supreme Court.”
You seriously can’t make this kind of stuff up. But yeah, there’s always the whining about Mitt, Santorum, et. al. by the liberal left.
According to Gallup, Obama’s approval rating is 46% and stuck. To put that into perspective, Carter’s was 45% in 1980 when nobody outside California and a few B-movie watchers really knew who Reagan was. Watch these gas prices drain Obama’s hopes of a second term dry no matter who is the GOP front runner in November.

“That’s useful to remember when conservatives now try to claim that they would have been much more supportive of a President Hillary Clinton than of a President Obama. No, they would not. In fact, part of Obama’s appeal to many liberals was the hope that he would not inspire the blind, angry antipathy directed at Hillary Clinton and before that at her husband. That hope proved vain.”
There is a corollary to that observation, which is -Whoever wins the Democratic primary is instantly proclaimed as “the most liberal _______ (fill in the blank with Senator, Governor, House member)”

JMH – I can tell you how much the Dems think is too much. Whatever I make.
I am phased out of every deduction. I’ve lost $10,000 +/- on some investments this year, none of it reduces my income. In what twisted world does the government get to say: when you make money, I take some, when you lose money, I still take some (or don’t let you get to deduct losses)?
Government is totally f’d. Our tax code is F’d. Our laws are F’d. And eventually our country will be F’d if we don’t fix it.

Most people do not really like doctors, dentists, attorneys, accountants, or undertakers. Everybody likes clowns, window service people at fast food restaurants, and florists. The US now suffers the effects of allowing a community organizer to run the country for three years. Even if we do not like serious-minded competent people, we select them for the big jobs that need to be done. Obama is toast.

josef – we do work for free on the blog. but on balance, we’re getting paid what our knowledge is worth.
the only problem is the liberals are stealing from the cons as usual with their negative value advice on top of the valuable con advice.
stop spreading the blog info wealth I say!
