Imagine the aftermath of a Romney loss in Michigan
If Mitt Romney loses Michigan tonight — and the polls say that’s possible — you’re gonna see some stuff happen. The Republican Party is gonna look like the scene in “Titanic” when people finally begin to understand: This unsinkable sucker could really go down.
The band warms up the crowd for Mitt Romney's Michigan concession speech?
Such a defeat would not end Romney’s campaign — he has too many resources and too much organization to simply sink beneath the waters. But a loss in his native state would confirm to many of his fellow Republicans that an alternative must be found, and quickly. For Romney, the setback would be significant because it would damage the single most important asset that he possesses, which is credibility. Mr. Inevitable would look more and more like Mr. Inevitable Loser.
But what alternatives do the Republicans have? Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are far more problematic than Romney. I’m beginning to hear strange noises out of Florida, as if Jeb Bush were starting to stir a bit, but that’s still a longshot. On the other hand, if Romney loses Michigan, those noises may increase in volume pretty quickly.
Truthfully, though, it’s still hard to envision the mechanism by which a late entry seizes control of the race. Those who have been campaigning all along aren’t going to meekly set aside their ambitions and allow some white knight to ride in and seize the prize.
And should Romney win in Michigan? Victory won’t do a lot for him, because it’s a state that he’s supposed to win pretty handily, against a set of opponents whom he ought to thrash. In college basketball terms, you don’t get many RPI points for beating weak opponents on your home court. A Romney win in Michigan, twinned with an expected win in Arizona, would merely extend the party’s current unsettled state of affairs.

No one else is getting in the race. The powers that be are going too watch this play out and recognize if santorum wins the primary battle, then they have virtually no chance of winning. Santorum will get crushed because he has no fundraising ability for the general.

“TransCanada Corp. estimates the pipeline would boost sales of Canadian-produced crude by $2 billion to $4 billion a year, according to an assessment submitted to Canada’s National Energy Board.
“The prices for those crudes in North Dakota and Canada will fetch closer to Gulf Coast prices, which are tied into the higher international market price,” said Tim Hess, an Energy Department analyst.
The reason is fairly simple. Even at maximum capacity, the Keystone line will move some 400,000 barrels per day of crude from Canada and the Midwest to global oil market. With the transportation discount removed, those barrels likely will be repriced to the higher global benchmark. “

As to complaints about Democrats crossing over to vote for Santorum, Romney has no grounds on which to complain, since he has bragged a while back about doing the same himself:
Republican presidential candididate Mitt Romney offered a new explanation today for why he supported a Democrat in 1992.
That year, Romney, then a registered independent, voted for former Sen. Paul Tsongas in the 1992 Democratic presidential primary. He told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, in an interview that will air Sunday on “This Week,” that his vote was meant as a tactical maneuver aimed at finding the weakest opponent for incumbent President George H.W. Bush.
“In Massachusetts, if you register as an independent, you can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary,” said Romney, who until he made an unsuccessful run for Senate in 1994 had spent his adult life as a registered independent. “When there was no real contest in the Republican primary, I’d vote in the Democrat primary, vote for the person who I thought would be the weakest opponent for the Republican.”
Personally, I suspect that’s a story fabricated to give Romney cover for voting in the Dem primary. But he’s on the record as supporting and even participating in the practice, so grumbling about it now is — shocker alert!! — hypocritical.

What I have never understood is why any party would allow people in the other party to vote in their primary. To me that is just dumb. Better a convention or caucus.

And as for the low unemployment rate, would you care to show us how many jobs, i.e. construction workers, lending agents, real estate brokers, underwriters, mortgage sales, closing attorneys, etc…… at that time were tied to the aforementiond housing bubble?

I’d like to say that “crossing over” is just plain wrong.
It’s was wrong when Republicans did it, and it’s wrong if Democrats do it.
And you guys are right about the last pResident. A complete and utter imbecile. And yet some continue to work so furiously hard to ignore and deflect all the damage that fool did during this 8 year tenure.

That’s the part of this I don’t get, because there are no refineries in North Dakota. The oil is going to the global market either way.
