According to John Lennon, his bandmate Paul McCartney wrote this song “back in the Cavern days” in Liverpool, which would put McCartney at about 20 years of age.
Today, the 69-year-old McCartney is looking at 64 from the opposite end of the time scale, peering back at it instead of forward to it. When he performs it today, an already wistful little ditty no doubt takes on an even more sepia tone.
But why, you may ask, did I choose to post this now? Well, 33 years ago today, my bride and I said our “I do”s, and the passage of time does make you think a little differently about such things.
Happy Anniversary, Babe.
“Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?”

Doggone@ 12:47: Exactly. Unions have done wonderful things for the workers in this Country. They have also ut their own throats at times (as in the example J-Reb points out assuming they are true). The anti union folks forget that in right to work states like ours, it works BECAUSE of the union presence, not ‘in spite of.” Workers have a right to unionize at anytime. As such a Company like Caterpillar will make sure they treat their employees right here in Georgia so they DON’T unionize.
One thing is certain. As much as the Chinese have screw Cat, and NOT bought from them there isn’t much chance of THEM sending their factories overseas…………

Peoria use to have two large breweries, Pabst and Herman Walker where, like at Caterpillar bluecollar workers enjoyed better than average wages and benefits. They are gone, out of business there. Why? Unions.

That Caterpillar plant in North Georgia sure is good news, huh? At whose expense? Peoria, IL, that’s who, where the unions went on strike after strike and finally run part of Caterpillar out of their state taking the jobs with them.
Somebody didn’t pay close attention to the announcement that was made. Plant work is being shifted from Japan, and not Peoria, IL in order to be closer to the US and European clients. In addition, the plant is a new plant in the US, and not merely shifting from one state to another.
In November, Caterpillar announced plans to open a new U.S. manufacturing facility. Caterpillar decided to shift production from Japan to a site closer to its large base of customers in North America and Europe, the company said in a statement last fall.
Illinois-based Caterpillar picked Georgia over a host of other states, including North Carolina, which seemingly has eaten Georgia’s economic development lunch in recent years, including a victory in landing Chiquita.
Also, in regards to wooing businesses, seems like some people really know how to give away the farm for a few jobs..
Athens and Oconee County taxpayers will pay a steep price for the 1,400 jobs Caterpillar is bringing to the region.
The two local governments paid almost $10 million for 252 acres at the Orkin tract straddling the county line. They’ll spend millions more on infrastructure improvements like roads and utility lines for the 1.2 million square-foot plant.
The total price tag is $17.6 million, not including property tax abatements that will save Caterpillar $12.4 million over the next 20 years or another $45 million in state incentives.
[...]
Oconee County is going $10 million into debt to fund Caterpillar-related infrastructure improvements. Athens-Clarke County is issuing $6 million in bonds.
Oconee taxpayers are on the hook for $280,000 bond payments this year and next, then $700,000 annually for another 18 years.

For general Info: THIS is why I hate Fox. They list the race start time as 12:00 PM EST. That’s not true. They are liars. The race starts at 1:29. The rest is they extraordinarily crappy pre-race show that usually has nothing to do with racing.
When ESPN has the race it will list it in the guide as 12;00-1;00 Prerace. 1:00 Race. (Actually they would probably drop the flag at around 1:10 if they announced the race for 1 or would announce it as 1:30 and green flag would be 1:35 or 1:40.

If gas does get to $6 and you need 4 tanks a month, that’s $120 per fill up assuming 20 gallon tank. This equates to $480 per month or $5700 a year grossed up for taxes is $7700 per year. Wow, how can all the middle class folks afford this? What about all those GM and Chrysler employees who earn about that much per year? Last year was bad for these people and that was worst year in history of gas gouging…but 50% increase…just damn.

The pipeline will not, and is not intended, to lower prices in the USA
Reducing the gas tax will starve the government of needed revenue for roads, while doing NOTHING to actually lower the price of gas. It only lowers the price at the pump.
Future drilling will do nothing to lower the price either, as any oil found would STILL be sold at world market prices.

Completing the pipeline means that the foriegn Company that owns the oil can ship it across our Country to the foreign owned oil tankers that will then sell it to the foreign Countries that will pay the high price for it.
What do you want us to do? Highjack it? Should we highjack it at the end of the pipeline or somewhere in the middle there sport? Stevie Ray. Abiding by the truth is not ‘blaming others.” The truth is we have very few refining facilities. They are working at capacity. The truth is that the major oil companies are NOT American. The truth is that China is buying every bit of oil they can get to keep up with all the manufacturing that OUR “rich folks” are sending their way. All the modernization. They want the factories and technology so they don’t have to get things from anyone. They can make it themselves and then they can REALLY dominate the World. And we are letting them.
Just as the rest of the World paid for us to become the most modern Country on the face of the earth, we are doing it for China. How sweet.
Tell your kids and employees to drive less. I’m sure they are pimping the hell out of you while gas is so high. I drive less. As a matter of fact I was looking at the Mazda3 yesterday. That puppy gets 40 MPG and they have one at Rick Case for only $18 grand and some change.
Dude, we as a Country have made some really stupid choices. At some point we have to pay the piper. Does it suck? Hell yeah it does. We (my wife and I0 make some damn good money. We should be living much better than we are. We made some choices. I lent a sibling a LOT of cash that she juiced me on. I had borrowed it. I had to pay it back. It sucks. But it’s almost over.
I drive a Dodge Ram that gets 10 MPG. In 98 when I got it, that wasn’t such an issue. It sure as hell is now. Stupid choice back then. It sucks. I live with it. I need a truck for what I do and I’m not going to buy a new one. 26 gallon fuel tank. I’ve been droppi9ng close to a Ben Franklin every time I fill up. Don’t tell ME about fuel prices. I know. But I gotta have a truck to haul tools and materials.
What magic answer do you want me to give? That 30-40 years of BS decisions of the US and it’s elected officials is all of a sudden Obama’s “fault?” That things will be magically better if we elect one of these republican asshats who were a major part of driving us where we are today?8 years Nixon /Ford, 4 years Jiminy Carter, 8 years Ronnie, 4 Years Herbert Bush, 8 years Clinton, 8 years Walker Bush, 3 years Obama. I count that 28 years Republican rule with 15 years Democrat spaced in there. So who bears the greater portion of “blame?”
After all the cries of “socialism” directed at Obama by the Right, I find it extremely amusing to see them condemning him because he DOESN’T steal the oil from the foreign owned companies and give it away here free………..

Fred,
You might consider that if cars had improved efficiency wise as much as my computer has over the last 20 years, my car would run on left over peanut oil.
Yeah boyzzzzz.
++++++++++++++++++++++++
You really aren’t very bright are you/ What does the speed of your processor, memory, or hard drive have to do with the amount of plastic components that make up your computer? You DO know the main ingredient in plastic don’t you?

Lots of methane and oil pal. But my computer doesn’t have much plastic, not a tenth as much as your earth killing car.

Truck son, truck. It’s an earth killing gas guzzling truck. It and many like it were needed to build that dwelling that keeps your goofy ass dry when it rains, warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot.

Fred,
You justify your earth killing by the need to kill more of the earth for new land swallowing, vain glorius McMansions.
If you had a pair, we could just call you an earth rapist. Your truck is the modern equivalent of the gas chamber, suffocating us all with a slow death for the planet.
Good thing Obama killed that supposed job creating pipeline. When we run out of oil, you can use that truck on blocks as a flower bed planter.

Ah so your mom has a McMansion? Sweet. Nice BIG basement for you to live in. Does she cook for you too and do your laundry? Since you are probably nearing 40 she has to be in her 60’s. Who will take care of you when she dies?

The pipeline, when it is approved, will do nothing to increase our supply of oil.

OOOOHHHHHHHH Earth raping. I’m getting a woodie just thinking about it. Not only do I get to pollute with my big gas guzzling truck, but I get to denude jungles, I mean “rain forests” in South America for lumber and stuff. Double woodie.

Fred, glad you’re on the team. Even if you are an earth raper. Very good of you to vote against your interests. Usually the redneck idiot suckers are the only ones to vote against their economic interests.

Josef,
I have 3 bicycles for various uses. My wife has a car though. I do drive it on occasion. We live close to most of the things we need and work.
If the rest of the world would get with the program, we could stop killing the planet.
