Travelin’ down ‘a long and winding road, that leads ….’

According to John Lennon, his bandmate Paul McCartney wrote this song “back in the Cavern days” in Liverpool, which would put McCartney at about 20 years of age.

Today, the 69-year-old McCartney is looking at 64 from the opposite end of the time scale, peering back at it instead of forward to it. When he performs it today, an already wistful little ditty no doubt takes on an even more sepia tone.

But why, you may ask, did I choose to post this now? Well, 33 years ago today, my bride and I said our “I do”s, and the passage of time does make you think a little differently about such things.

Happy Anniversary, Babe.

“Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?”

Not sure if it’s your style, but this is a great song to let your wife hear. It’s “Warmness of the Soul” by Avenged Sevenfold back when they first started.

as the joke goes; my wife and I are celebrating 20 years of marital happiness… of course, we’ve been married for 33 years. I’ve married three times with a net total of 9.5 years (but the most recent/current, which represents .75 years is pretty darn good).

Jm, I wish I could find that article with a bunch of no-name critics lambasting all of the acknowledged masters of this era. Stuff like Bob Marley’s lyrics were trite, the Beach Boys harmonies were so so, etc.

You’d have fit right in!

Amvet. You know a past master in part by how much his music is still played, decades after they’re gone. While the Beatles still get played plenty (at home), I hear Bob Marley far more than the Beatles. Maybe just my radio stations…… can’t recall the last time I heard a Beatles song on the radio.

http://www.smartmoney.com/spend/family-money/why-college-aid-makes-college-more-expensive-1330033152060/

Lesley Turner, a PhD candidate at Columbia University, looked at data on aid from 1996 to 2008 and calculated that, on average, schools increased Pell Grant recipients’ prices by $17 in response to every $100 of Pell Grant aid. More selective nonprofit schools’ response was largest and these schools raised prices by $66 for every $100 of Pell Grant aid.

…..

After adjusting for differences among schools, the authors find that Title IV-eligible schools charge tuition that is 75% higher than the others. That’s roughly equal to the amount of the aid received by students at these schools.

Studies like these suggest that if one goal of government is to make college affordable, aid should become more thoughtful instead of merely more plentiful. And the total cost of federal spending on college isn’t fully known. That’s because spending on loans dwarfs that on grants. Student loans recently eclipsed credit card debt

I don’t think there would be a lot of debate, for it is obvious they achieved greatness on some level. I am not sure it can be denied that Lennon and McCartney were one of the best song writing duos in the 20th century (whatever one thinks of their musical and vocal skills).

Congrats, Jay. Continued best wishes to you.

33 years married is not to be scoffed at. I am 22 in and would have it no other way. Sadly, there seems to be a shrinking number of us geezers (and of course the geese) that are the only ones that believe in the “mate for life” thing nowadays. Sadly, the norm now is that relationships are as expendable and disposable as everything else.

Congrats Jay.

josef!!!!!!!!!!!! I may have found a decent Cajun place in Duluth. They opened last Thursday. I’ll let you know tomorrow if it’s worth the drive. Today we split the Jambalaya (trio, sausage, shrimp, and chicken), a side of gumbo and a side of red beans and rice. Tomorrow dude said he is going to make some roast beef po’boys. I think I’ll drive back up there to check that out. If he can make a decent roast beef po’boy I’ll give him an official stamp of approval. Oh, we got there too late for the “boofay” but among the items were seafood piquant and shrimp boudin.

Fred and josef, I think you boys still got NOLA on your Fat Tuesday minds.

My dad, Bogalusa born, would have been 82 today. I still miss him. I almost started tearing up at a client’s this morning, suddenly remembering that it was his birthday.

For you, Adrian…

Jam Man. It was fun talking to the owner of that place today. We were kinda “feeling each other out’ as it were by asking about different so called cajun places around here. He’s from the western part of the state so his jambalaya is “brown’ while I alwayds made ‘new orelans style” which has some tomatoes in it. But his gumbo was spot on. File gumbo. LOL I’m ready to go back for supper tonight………..

Bruno, not sure if you caught it, but I sent out a HUGE shoutout to you for that Stevie Wonder sign off last night for the day crew. Very cool and very righteous.

All the credit goes to Stevie, of course. My contribution was pretty minimal.
