An anthemic end to the week that was

Because sometimes, you know, you just have to go for it ….

… although I confess that everytime I hear this now, in my mind I see the hilarious head-bobbing scene in that AMC Pacer from Wayne’s World. Back in the day, I was a passenger in, or on occasion driver, of that car more often than I should admit, although for me it was a ‘68 Pontiac Bonneville with a 390-horse V-8 that could go w-aaaay too fast.

Anyway, here’s to rock n’ roll anthems.

Jay,

Sweet. And in high school I was bombing around in a ‘63 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with real walnut in the dash. Dad bought it from a young guy in north San Diego county whose dad had it shipped out from New Jersey on a rail car, then died, so the kid sold it to dad for $500.

Sucker got 10mpg on a good day.

Without getting too heavy or political, but staying on topic…

It’s worth remembering that Queen became massively unpopular in the US thanks to the efforts of homophobic morons… well, if Brian May is to be believed. (I guess I wasn’t paying close attention at the time; I was, frankly, never a big fan of theirs at the height of their initial popularity.)

here’s the interview I’d heard…

http://www.npr.org/2010/08/03/128935865/queens-brian-may-rocks-out-to-physics-photography

Recalling from memory, but apparently when the aforementioned “hilarious head-bobbing scene in that AMC Pacer from Wayne’s World” got people listening to Queen again, Freddy was already in a pretty advanced stage from the ravages of AIDS, and when Brian May called him to discuss this sudden re-interest from Americans, Freddy said “So I won’t have to f—ing die in order for us to be popular again?”

Kind of shocking, really, to hear. That’s Brian’s take on it anyway.
