Newt’s not done playing the wealth card vs. Romney

rupertUPDATE: As the tweet to the right suggests, Newt’s not the only one who believes that Romney’s tax records make good fodder.

———————————–

I think some Republicans were hoping that Newt Gingrich might stop targeting Mitt Romney’s wealth after widespread criticism that the tactic played into Democratic hands.

Yet here’s Newt today, dismissing the Romney argument that illegal immigrants would solve the problem by “self-deporting” themselves:

“You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatically $20 million income for no work to have some fantasy this far from reality.”

So I guess that hope was in vain.

Two more quick points:

– Newt is doing it because he knows it’s working, even in a GOP primary. Again, that bodes poorly for Romney in a general election.

– The pleas from fellow Republicans are rather interesting. Are they asking Gingrich to put the best interests of the group ahead of his own selfish interests? What are they, Marxist or something?

Obama and his inept handlers like axelfraud are hoping to convince Americans that our world economic leadership is over and that we should consolidate individual wealth and share it among the masses. We should redistribute wealth among the masses and depend on the ruling class to place America within a global governing system.

Okay, who left the playbook out on the table for Del to find. I mean its bad enough that Newt is acting as a sockpuppet…..but now Del has woken up and caught on.

Those “boobleheads” are wrong. History says that a president that doesn’t lift their approvals over 50% in the first quarter of their fourth year in all probability won’t be re-elected. Obama isn’t off to a very good start.

Need to correct something about JKL2’s language:

Legislating prosperity to the poor by legislating poverty to everyone else.

But when the banking class and corporate CEO class have effectively looted the prosperity of the people, on whose backs they made their fortunes, by ramming through policies that have undercut broad-based prosperity, then it is perfectly appropriate for those people who have been adversely affected by that (the poor and the workers) to RE-legislate that prosperity BACK to where it was before and where it properly belongs.

Romney’s tax returns make me think he would be a good president. I may be easing out of the Newt column and into the Romney column. But Romney is going to have to learn how to defend conservatism, it is not enough to walk the walk, you also have to talk the talk.

Newt’s problem is that he is not only bright enough to argue for conservatism, he can also argue against it, using the pandering language of the left or right as it suits his needs. (Admission, I used a sorta Freudian “soots” on my first pass. Maybe more accurate than “suits.”)

JAY,

I consider it hilarious in fact, your obsession with birthers, especially given that by your own admission today, many of your liberal buddies here at your home blog are acting like third-graders, including apparently some very very very proud veterans of military service of the United States of America, and especially given that many of these very same people are by their own admission, truthers. It’s the old tap dance: nothing to see here folks.

Trouble is, there is something to see, and it might be un-obvious to those mired in it. At this time I would urge Bruno and other conservatives posting on this blog in earnestness (and those liberals too who don’t giggle and fart like a bunch of merry skunks (thanks Granny G for that)) to exit this experiment in insanity now or at least don’t waste so much time blogging with the likes of oh…..–to take some examples from today’s posts:

rouse the chickenhawk …..
….His ODS is so enlarged, his prostate has had to shrink to accommodate it!
……To say nothing of his professed belief that women should be EZ bake ovens for rapists.
…..Today, that’s Newt; tomorrow it might be Santorum…….A frothy mix for America.

Pogo, Bruno, everyone else: This blog devolves every day into a catharsis of fart jokes, bodily fluids, bullying, whining, name-calling, sexual innuendo and stereotypes of racism (always), greed etc., (all the vices belong to conservatives you see; all the virtues to liberals); the vast majority of personal attacks directed at good conservatives.

I wonder if this is what the haughty Cox family considered would be their legacy when they decided to buyout Atlanta media? The Bookman blog and its one consistent theme and purpose–How can we sneer at our conservative political enemies today? (Well, it works for John Stewart and Steven Colbert. But there’s no dialoguing with them either. They joke and sneer too; sometimes in language equally vulgar, sometimes less.) And tomorrow as if to prove my point, Bookman is going to kick the dead horse of the “birthers”.

You don’t go to a blog like this and expect to argue. The best that can happen is you make a good point and the libs pretend you didn’t make it (and then call you a feather merchant). And the libs here say talk radio is awful…. The Bookman skunks are third graders indeed. I try to take on Bookman directly because he is restrained by his job from being as crass as his giggling gaggle. Unfortunately, he’s also restrained from acknowledging the truth when it is placed before him. The only time he replies to me directly is when there is an obvious flaw in my argument–that sometimes, I tease him with so he will respond.

I don’t know how our country will survive, though I’m sure it will for some time. When it all ends, whatever the final result of that end is, the path to its end will consist of this same tribal sneering, accusing and ignoring of earnest communication that we have right here on the ol’ Bookman blog.

It’s time to shake the sand from your feet guys. Stop wasting your time here. If you consider it somehow your mission to convert people from the absurdity that is modern liberalism / progressivism, go somewhere else. Lord knows we need it.

JKL2: “The goal of liberalism is to make everyone equally miserable”

Which of course is why the golden age of liberalism — the period following Roosevelt’s New Deal, the post WWII period, and the Great Society era — was a period of unprecedented prosperity for wide swaths of this nation, a period that did nothing less than build the nation we know.

It’s because liberalism really was about immiserating the populace, but just missed the mark and accidentally gave them unparalleled prosperity, yeah that’s it.

You know what I’m going to do though, I’m going to do something you would never, ever see a Bircher do, and that is make it hard on myself. I’m going to play devil’s advocate and point out a possible challenge case.

Let’s be fair. Bismarck did after all give us the first ever national health care.

So what about that? Does it count?

Conservativism gave us capitalism? You’re mistaken.

Mitt Romney and his wife gave $7 million in charitable contributions over that same period. This means they donated some 16% of their earnings to charity. If you want to play this game, the Obamas donated less than 1% of their earnings from 2000 to 2004, and about 5% of their earnings from 2005 to 2006.

Mick,

Our military and the CIA make behind the scenes rescues like this and have been doing so for awhile. Usually of humanitarian mission workers but others as well such as young women captured and taken into the sex trade. Its only under this president that its so publicized. And these clandestine acts really shouldn’t be publicized.

Secondly its a wonderful thing this rescue but in the great scheme of things how does one American being rescued affect the daily lives of 310 million Americans for the better? This is just deflection from the reality of economic failure under this president.

I don’t want to play that game and I could care less what either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama gives to charity.

What we’re interested in here, and what is paramount to the future fiscal health of the country, is 1) closing ridiculous loopholes that allow investment raiders like Mitt Romney to claim their investment windfalls as capital gains for a measly 13% tax rate, and 2) raising top tax rates on top INCOMES generally back up to something more sane, such as what they were during the Clinton administration.

AmVet- But we both know you’re still wrong

It’s your story. Make it up as you go along…

Middle finger works just fine. My left hip and shoulder are the only good joints I have left though.

JKL2,

30 trillion? So what. The zombies will still be cheerleading him and blaming W. They are like cult members. You cannot just deprogram them that easily.

Welcome- I don’t want to play that game and I could care less what either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama gives to charity

Liberalism says,”What?”

Your counting on the government to take care of everyone (pick winners and losers) rather than have charities help those that need it(preferably on a local level). If you have to give all your money to the government, you have nothing left to give to charity.

If you needed help, would you rather get $.95 from the Red Cross or $.32 from the government?

The government really needs to get out of the charity business…

Thulsa- Liberal politicians are nothing short of disgusting as far as their stinginess goes

I like Bush giving $800,000 to charilty while his opponent Albert”save the world” Gore donated $300.

I’m sure it’s Bush’s fault he didn’t give more…

I’m trying to do my part by eating as many of those planet killers as possible.

There’s plenty of room for all God’s creatures–right next to the mashed potatoes.

Climate change, global warming, what will they call it next? How about man made global temperature variation.

I’ll have to do my part tomorrow night and have a porterhouse for dinner.

From a National Geographic article six years ago…

Scientists often use the term “climate change” instead of global warming. This is because as the Earth’s average temperature climbs, winds and ocean currents move heat around the globe in ways that can cool some areas, warm others, and change the amount of rain and snow falling. As a result, the climate changes differently in different areas.

Aint that been going on for a couple billion years now? We have had a temp rise of 8/10ths of 1 degree I think over the last 50 years. But then hell we have temp changes of nearly 100 degrees every 6 months. Doesn’t sound like much too get excited about when you look at it from that perspective.
