UPDATE: As the tweet to the right suggests, Newt’s not the only one who believes that Romney’s tax records make good fodder.
———————————–
I think some Republicans were hoping that Newt Gingrich might stop targeting Mitt Romney’s wealth after widespread criticism that the tactic played into Democratic hands.
Yet here’s Newt today, dismissing the Romney argument that illegal immigrants would solve the problem by “self-deporting” themselves:
“You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatically $20 million income for no work to have some fantasy this far from reality.”
So I guess that hope was in vain.
Two more quick points:
– Newt is doing it because he knows it’s working, even in a GOP primary. Again, that bodes poorly for Romney in a general election.
– The pleas from fellow Republicans are rather interesting. Are they asking Gingrich to put the best interests of the group ahead of his own selfish interests? What are they, Marxist or something?

I cannot help but find it highly ironic if the following happens:
1. Mitt complied with the tax laws
2. The rate he pays becomes an issue that personally tarnishes him
3. He loses the election
The irony obviously being that the carried interest promoters and their lobbyists have been so successful that they’ve made a perfectly decent guy (mitt), and for that matter any other private equity person, unelectable.

It goes without saying that Biden’s finger exploits probably went deeper than Obama’s.
On a related note of interest here in Georgia – ATHENS — A relatively new Georgia Board of Regents policy regulating the admission of undocumented students and illegal immigrants has prevented a football recruit (Chester Brown) from gaining admission to the University of Georgia….Brown’s mother insists that her son was born in the United States, which would make him a citizen, but Brown may not have been able to provide documentation to that effect.
Maybe these guys could straighten out how a Kenyan got elected to a prominent political office in the United States as well.

Well, I don’t know about you, but when I heard some reporter explain carried interest, I about choked on a fried pork skin, I was so excited. I learned that carried interest is the cut you take out of somebody’s money before you give him what’s left. This just filled me with ideas. I’m going to go down to see the boss at the warehouse to see if he’ll treat my pay as interest money. That way, he gets the capital gains rate on his cut and I get the capital gains rate on what he gives me. Everybody’s a winner except the worthless guvmint. What a

The reason I took issue with that is that while Greece may potentially be insolvent, that’s a far cry from saying that Europe as a whole is at the brink of bankruptcy. Furthermore, the question of its fate as an economic union is a purely political one, not economic really. In other words, it’s a matter of whether the ECB will do what needs to be done and guarantee the debt.
I’ll address in the morning if you see this and remind me. It has to do with who owns that Greek debt (and Portuguese debt, and Spanish debt and Italian debt, and even French and Irish debt).

In 2010, Romney carried over $4.9 million in capital losses from 2009. But as tax lawyer Ed Kleinbard told reporters during a Tuesday conference call organized by the DNC, ‘that means he paid no tax on any of his capital gains in 2009, including tax on his carried interest in 2009′ That’s not necessarily because Romney actually lost money in 2009 either.

It is perfectly fair game to attack democrats, who espouse the need to not waste money on frivolous things so we can help the poor, and then go spend tens of thousands on ritzy vacations and expensive dresses while giving a pittance to charity (1% in bidens case and 4% in onama’s)
It’s not that they spend money
It’s the hypocrisy. They just want to spend your money on helping the poor ot theirs
They want to live like kings and proclaim themselves helpers of the little people?

And if Michelle Obama shows up looking a little frowzy, well, us Conservative Republicans probly wouldn’t say anything about how she disgraced the nation after a year or two or till the election is over, whichever comes first.

But at least by his own words he admits to being a dimwit, so he is taking little baby bird steps…
(CNN) — For a century, the bedrock principle of our tax code has been progressivity: The rich pay a larger share of income than the middle class and poor. Yet Mitt Romney’s revelation that he paid 14% in federal income taxes on more than $40 million in income in 2010 and 2011 reveals an increasingly open secret: Progressivity is dead for the superrich.
It also suggests that the main argument made by Romney and others for this highly unequal state of affairs — that it’s essential to spur job creation and economic growth — is false.

“Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and President Barack Obama engaged in an apparently tense exchange on an airport tarmac shortly after Air Force One touched down outside Phoenix on Wednesday.
The two leaders could be seen talking intently at the base of Air Force One’s steps. Both could be seen smiling, but speaking at the same time.
Obama appeared to walk away from the Republican governor while they were still talking, according to a White House pool reporter. Brewer confirmed that by saying she didn’t finish her sentence.
Asked moments later what the conversation was about, Brewer said: “He was a little disturbed about my book.”

“Obama the pro poverty president”
Yes that’s exactly it. Obama and his inept handlers like axelfraud are hoping to convince Americans that our world economic leadership is over and that we should consolidate individual wealth and share it among the masses. We should redistribute wealth among the masses and depend on the ruling class to place America within a global governing system.

Obama did not get a bump up from his performance last night.
pretty sure, historically, SOTU addresses don’t have much of an effect either way. That’s what one of the seven-figure bobbleheads told me on the Teevee, anyway.

When you have more to lose, and care more about people, and when you know how poorly run our government is (under w and O), you tend to care about it a fair amount
That said, life will go on no matter what. But not for all people
Obama’s pro poverty program will put some people over the edge and result in a shorter life for them than they should have had
Very sad that Obama is ok with this
I’m not
