Newt’s not done playing the wealth card vs. Romney

rupertUPDATE: As the tweet to the right suggests, Newt’s not the only one who believes that Romney’s tax records make good fodder.

———————————–

I think some Republicans were hoping that Newt Gingrich might stop targeting Mitt Romney’s wealth after widespread criticism that the tactic played into Democratic hands.

Yet here’s Newt today, dismissing the Romney argument that illegal immigrants would solve the problem by “self-deporting” themselves:

“You have to live in a world of Swiss bank accounts and Cayman Island accounts and automatically $20 million income for no work to have some fantasy this far from reality.”

So I guess that hope was in vain.

Two more quick points:

– Newt is doing it because he knows it’s working, even in a GOP primary. Again, that bodes poorly for Romney in a general election.

– The pleas from fellow Republicans are rather interesting. Are they asking Gingrich to put the best interests of the group ahead of his own selfish interests? What are they, Marxist or something?

…is that because we are for smaller government…

Huge belly laugh, chortle and guffaw!

F&F, I thought I had already used up my daily quota of embarrassing you fake conservatives, but for what you just wrote, I’ll make an exception

Every single Republican president since Gerald Ford has absolutely exploded the size, scope, cost, waste, redundancy and interference of the federal government And you hold up those frauds up as paragons of smaller government???

And as for veterans, you obviously don’t know a GD thing about their situations.

Otherwise you would know that unemployment and homelessness among them is HIGHER than for non-veterans.

Jay, you have probably already looked it up but seems to me I would sure like that ALJ to explain his ruling based on administrative rule 616-1-2-.19(5): “Once issued, a subpoena may be quashed by the [ALJ] if it appears that the subpoena is unreasonable or oppressive, or that the testimony, documents, or objects sought are irrelevant, immaterial, or cumulative and unnecessary to a party’s preparetion and presentation of its position at the hearing, or that basic fairness dictataes that the subpoena should not be enforced….” What information does Obama have to add about his place of birth which has not already be certified by the State of Hawaii or who his parents where or their nationality that is not cumulative of known information?

[The Cox attorneys probably already filed the 616-1-2-.43 notice for admission to the hearing]

Lots of Cabinet-level secretaries don’t stick around the whole time their boss is in office. Some don’t even stick around for an entire 4-year term.

It happens with every President AFAIK, and IMO there’s nothing to read into it.

“The pretension among the liberal perception of conservatives is that because we are for smaller government, then the understanding goes, we must be for no government, including roads bridges, fire stations, police forces….that we’re for anarchy. ”

I don’t believe I’ve ever heard a Lib here make that case. I have heard them challenge Cons when they say gov’t should not be involved in much more than defense and use those examples.

As far as being for clean air, there sure are an awful lot of attacks against EPA for attempting to enforce clean air standards. Even Texas has suit against the EPA as they don’t want to clean up their power plants and keep noxious gasses from blowing to other states. Say it’s federal intrusion, overstepping authority, etc.

Bruno,

What do you expect? The lefties here are obsessed with the word “liberal”; they chaffe with the label “marxist”; with the um…. substance… of Santorum. Aquagirl (a very liberal but (unlike so many here) a respectful and relevant blogger) and another blogger on Kyle’s blog (whom I forget) have written to me that this board here at Bookman, is more like a chatroom than rhetoric and polemics. I don’t blame Aquagirl for not posting here, though she is liberal. I wouldn’t want to post my conservative wit along with whatever our version is of liberal one-liner, knuckle-dragging luddites of which we have so many here at Bookman.

What you find here is more like a Jerry Springer audience chanting and revving themselves up all day and night, literally. If you think about it, it’s kind of sad.

They won’t EVER say Obama is divisive, and I wouldn’t ever encourage anyone to try and convince them otherwise. Doing so is only just a smidgen more worthwhile than old Jay himself crowing about how stupid WE are because we claim Obama has Marxist tendencies. There’s definitions and examples aplenty about Marxists and what they do, including his obvious connection to the “rules” of Alinsky, the friendship of Bill Ayers, etc. Still, it’s opinion, and Jay shows his daffy naivete by going there, and reminding us that his chosen candidate for Pres is really a socialist bum by constantly denying it–by protesting too much.

As for divisiveness, that has a broader meaning than Marxist even and could mean anything. I don’t blame liberals for not seeing that. For them Bush was divisive. I’d rather focus solidly on Obama’s failures, which is easy to do because are many and frequent.

When I post, I often post to Jay directly. Nothing like going after the heart of the matter, even when it is the sometime non-sequitor “news” with which Jay begins his daily routine.

Might help you to know that I work with vets, helping them get trained in science and technology.

Anyway, if vets are homeless and unemployed, do they need a specific federal government funded program to get them into firehouses and police stations? No, and if you say yes, what do we need next, a federal directorate czar to get them into retain? If you don’t recognize that, then you’re certainly the most out-of-touch whiniest veteran I’ve ever met, if you ever one were to begin with.

Scout and Del–One of my military patients wrote a poem about his experiences in Afghanistan. He gave me permission to reprint it here. I thought it was kind of touching coming from a grizzled combat veteran:

Through tears and anger we unite
Our country calls on us to win a fight
With heavy hearts and revenge in mind
Knowing that it will come in time
.

So here we are in another domain
A God-forsaken place that sees no rain
No flowers, trees or grass in sight
We try to stay focused with all our might
.

And just when you think it can’t get any worse
It always does, like a black curse
And as the holidays come, we sit far away
Our families and loved ones in our minds every day
.

Although they know they live in our hearts
Sometimes it’s hard for them to understand our part
But for the victims and families from the outrage in September
Most, if not all, will remember
.

I am a United States soldier who will always stand tall
And to all that oppose me, may God bless you all

Jay, no worries.

The decent and sane people here do not doubt my service. Or veracity.

And a big shout out to the SEALS, the CiC and all the men and women involved in rescuing those two aid workers in Somalia.

We’re gonna put her feet back on
the path of righteousness and then
God bless America again

President Obama did exactly what hundreds of thousands of us have been calling on him to do—he announced a federal investigation into Wall Street. Here’s what he said:

“I am asking my Attorney General to create a special unit of federal prosecutors and leading state attorneys general to expand our investigations into the abusive lending and packaging of risky mortgages that led to the housing crisis. This new unit will hold accountable those who broke the law, speed assistance to homeowners, and help turn the page on an era of recklessness that hurt so many Americans.”

The best part is, progressive champion New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is co-chairing the investigation and will make sure it stays on track.

Just weeks ago, this investigation wasn’t even on the table, and the big banks were pushing for a broad settlement that would have made it impossible.

This is truly a huge victory for the 99% movement. Hundreds of thousands of us signed petitions, made calls, and held signs outside in the cold to make this issue something that President Obama couldn’t ignore.

– Over 360,000 of us signed a petition calling on President Obama to fully investigate the banks.

– We delivered that petition at over 150 events last Thursday around the country at Obama for America campaign offices.

– Our pressure on state attorneys general stopped the rush to a sweetheart deal that would have precluded this investigation.

– And we’ve called, Facebooked, and tweeted at the White House repeatedly to ask the president to launch this investigation.

Yeah baby, democracy in action.

Or as Cicero said, Freedom is participation in power.

Erwin and 0311/1811,

Heard an interesting story on that the other day…they blamed the increase in tuition on Federal Student loans…the school had no risk in the price, because they got their money then, and the risk is all on the government. It will be interesting if there is a “tuition bubble”, and what happens if a large number of graduates can’t pay back their loan. So many people enter the workforce with piles of debt, and when the economy dips and there are no jobs for them…

Thot surely we’d hear about Obama’s little performance of last evening instead of more Newt bashing.
