UPDATE: That was an impressive win. A 14-point margin for Newt Gingrich is probably more than the former speaker could dream of a week ago, and certainly was unimagined by the Romney camp. A lot of Republican Party officials will not sleep well tonight.
The voting booths close at 7 p.m. in South Carolina, and given movement in the most recent polls, it wouldn’t be surprising if the networks name Newt Gingrich the winner shortly thereafter.
If that happens — and particularly if Gingrich can push his margin into double digits, which seems plausible — the Republicans have themselves a serious problem. Newt will come out of South Carolina with the smell of napalm in his nostrils, and we all know what napalm smells like: victory.

The greater the Gingrich margin, the more it will validate his strategy of attacking Mitt Romney on the issue of his Bain-gotten wealth. As his high-school yearbook photo tells you, this is a man with a grandiose sense of destiny, and the closer he gets to seeing it realized, the more aggressive he will become.
And as I’ve pointed out before, the Republican establishment will have only itself to blame. They have trained their base to turn up its nose at even the slightest aroma of moderation. They have fed it on resentment, and instilled it with a deep disdain for the media. In short, they have turned it into an audience utterly susceptibel to a man of Newt’s talents and eccentricities.
On the other hand, if Romney wins, this thing’s all but over. We’ll know in a few hours.

Lest my notes be misconstrued, I am not yet a Newt man. I remember his slander about Paul Ryan’s brilliant blueprint. Romney could still win me, because his flip flops have all flipped the right way for me – still have a sense he panders, although is that not also true of Newt?

I don’t think they’ve turned their back on their religious principals. Some believe Gingrich is a strong conservative. I personally don’t believe that to be true. King David was a SINNER. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and even murder by having her husband killed in battle. There’s probably much more in his life we don’t even know about.
However, he paid for it dearly when he and Bathsheba lost the child of their union. It broke his heart BUT he sincerely repented before God.
God blessed him with a son by the name of Solomon. You know that story but even so …. God later said:
1 Kings 11:4
“As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been.”
Bottom line:

And in the same camp as David? Yeah. Newt’s “psalms” ain’t in the same category, and he thinks a liar and a lyre are the same thing…But even if we do want to go there,…you can forgive him if you want to, As Phoebe Pember said to Robert E, Lee and Jefferson Davis, “At last I lifted my voice and said, ‘I am blessed to be born of the tribe that doesn’t have to grant foregiveness. The only reason these suits are coming up, again and again, and more specifically this one right now, is to try to tie Obama up in courts while he should instead be campaigning for reelection. It’s disturbing to me that any judge that thinks this complaint — by a complainant obviously infected by outrageous levels of hatred for Barack Obama and a ridiculous meme stuck in their head by people with no scruples, no less — has any merit whatsoever. Such a judge, in gainful employment with regard to determining the hand of justice and meting out fates to those who cross your nations laws, is a) deluded, and b) woefully uninformed about the state of the world

First of all, even Marx himself wasn’t a ‘Marxist’, as he famously pointed out.
But secondly, I would suggest that Obama, who believes in the end of history in the economic sphere and thus in the absolute inevitability of free market capitalism as clearly as anyone ever to hold the office of president. And in that respect — the only important one — Obama is no more a Marxist than, well, Newt Gingrich.

josef – Barratry is most commonly applied to an attorney who attempts to bring about a lawsuit that will be profitable to her or him.
meaning their whole entire business model is based upon filing lawsuits. Hence the term ambulance chaser.

josef, just saw an article I thought you might enjoy, apropos of one of our recent discussions on sundry topics.

Does a good job of explaining why skepticism is in order regarding science proving a genetic or physiological basis for homosexuality.
Over the last decade, there’s been a lot of science arguing that there are physical differences between gay people and straight people, in their brains and even the direction of their hair whirls. You’re skeptical of this research. Why?
I question their validity primarily because nobody has established or in fact attempted to establish that there is a canonical straight body. And if you don’t have characterized control, you can bet your bottom dollar I am not going to believe your hypothesis. It’s really that simple.
All of this research that is purporting to look for physiological material differences between gay bodies and straight bodies: What are they comparing it to? Their assumption that they know magically what a heterosexual body is? When no one has actually established what that is. That’s bad science.
