UPDATE: That was an impressive win. A 14-point margin for Newt Gingrich is probably more than the former speaker could dream of a week ago, and certainly was unimagined by the Romney camp. A lot of Republican Party officials will not sleep well tonight.
The voting booths close at 7 p.m. in South Carolina, and given movement in the most recent polls, it wouldn’t be surprising if the networks name Newt Gingrich the winner shortly thereafter.
If that happens — and particularly if Gingrich can push his margin into double digits, which seems plausible — the Republicans have themselves a serious problem. Newt will come out of South Carolina with the smell of napalm in his nostrils, and we all know what napalm smells like: victory.

The greater the Gingrich margin, the more it will validate his strategy of attacking Mitt Romney on the issue of his Bain-gotten wealth. As his high-school yearbook photo tells you, this is a man with a grandiose sense of destiny, and the closer he gets to seeing it realized, the more aggressive he will become.
And as I’ve pointed out before, the Republican establishment will have only itself to blame. They have trained their base to turn up its nose at even the slightest aroma of moderation. They have fed it on resentment, and instilled it with a deep disdain for the media. In short, they have turned it into an audience utterly susceptibel to a man of Newt’s talents and eccentricities.
On the other hand, if Romney wins, this thing’s all but over. We’ll know in a few hours.

Please tell me how I am as “shrill” as they are?
You are employing the same binary mind-set that you are whining about
On one hand you have a group of people who think in order to win, they must appeal to the the extreme base
[...]
On the other hand you have the incumbent.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And the pundits and politicians on BOTH sides are feeding America that vile diet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They all do the same thing, but they are despised by the other side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m making a point about the people who will dismiss a story from Drudge and then post a story from think progress.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And this is how you see yourself: And in the middle, we have us, the American people scratching our heads saying WTF?
You think by claiming that you are “in the middle” that you are somehow above this?

you should really review some of my previous posts…..you know i am trying to help you…..obama is toast….dems AND rino’s in the senate(33 total) are in big trouble as well………this is momentum gaining steam against big gov’t and FOR capitalism and free markets…….the problem with our current issues doesn’t lie with our gov’t institutions ,per-se, as much as with the morals and the values of those entrusted with it……that’s why the conservative message will reasonate and garner many more votes than obama and his message of class warfare, redistribution, and division…….let me know what else you would like to know………good day libs

Where-ever the confederate flag flies is too much for me because of what it stands for. One more thing…, I’m probably as conservative or more so than ole td. So it’s not always a liberal who speaks for what is right in this country. What some see as a right, others see a hateful expression. Just a matter of perception. There are those in Ga. and through-out the south who wish the civil war had gone the other way. Newt plays to these people. Thanks for enlightening me on the flag thing.

I refuse to watch those paid political campaign ads that are mislabeled as debates. The idea of a debate is to stake a position and use factually laden dialogue to back your position. This crap they do every election is nothing more than a sham uses to hide the fact that we are being played for fools.

Kam, I see what you are saying and will take that into account. I may even agree with it, except the “whining” part. But isn’t that an example of what I was saying? Was the descriptor “whining” necessary? Obviously I was/am not making this exchange confrontational or trying to belittle you, but you decided to belittle me. Why? As I have said to you before, if I ask a question, it is just that, A QUESTION. There is no “gotcha” set up. I saw where you rambled on about “was the deionization like bla, bla, bla”
The answer is no. Republicans can never have the resources that Democrats have. Republicans have FOX and talk radio, an average daily audience of a couple million while the Democrats have the combined mainstream with a daily audience of about 100 million. The comparison is actually laughable.
But it is noted that of all the horrible problems Obama has brought to our country, that the very best you could do to refute any of it was such a pathetic attempt.
Its all true and you know it is. Gas prices have never been this high for this time of year. Food prices are going crazy. Unemployment stats are a big lie and Obama is decreeing less and less freedom and much more dictatorial control and this is with an election coming up. Just think about what he will decree if he doesn’t need to worry about being elected. .
My post is true. The only question is will the indoctrination be enough for the American public to ignore all these horrible problems and vote for who the media tells them to vote for. Who will you vote for?

In a sense, we’re seeing a third-party candidate, and it’s Newt Gingrich.
Only in rhetoric, and only temporarily while he campaigns against Romney. Look at Gingrich’s proposals again. Lower taxes for the wealthy while maintaining welfare for millionaires. Higher taxes for the poor while slashing the safety net. More defense spending (i.e., more deficit spending). Gut regulations. Bellicose foreign policy. More dirty energy. Climate change is a hoax. Cut entitlement benefits. A Christian theocracy. And the list goes on.
Gingrich is Gingrich. A right wing, theocratic hypocrite who has one set of standards for his own personal conduct and another set of standards for everybody else. He’s the plutocrats’ plutocrat, and personally, he scares the crap out of me.

By the way, Gingrich still uses his word list (including words that he’s added to the list). Have it nearby so that you can pull it out whenever you catch him on television.
Gingrich and his friends are 100 percent American, strong, leaders, pro this or that, committed, and so on. On the other hand, his opponents are 100 percent radical, destructive, weak, incompetent, intolerant, anti-religious, bureaucratic,…
That word list worked for him before, and he relies on it today.

1995 from Fairness in Accuracy in Reporting website–
Since winning control of Congress, Rep. Newt Gingrich (R.-Ga.) has constantly complained about “destructive” and “negative” coverage from the “liberal elite media.”
For example, when asked on Nightline (11/29/94) about his reference to the Clintons as “counter-culture McGoverniks,” he first insisted that he had been misquoted–”I used the term McGovernite, not McGovernik–it was one of those things that the Times picked up and therefore it’s now history” (actually, at least four different newspapers–including the New York Times–quoted Gingrich in their November 10 editions as calling the Clintons “counter-culture McGoverniks”)–and then blamed the media for selective reporting:
I didn’t say that to attack the president, I was asked an analytic question. But because I am now the next speaker, I am learning that everything I say has to be worded carefully and thought through at a level that I’ve never experienced before in my life.
In fact, the new speaker of the House–who once described his goal as “reshaping the entire nation through the news media” (New York Times, 12/14/94)–has given a great deal of thought to the media and how to manipulate them. One Newtonian axiom is “fights make news” (Boston Globe, 11/20/94). Another skill he has taught to Republican candidates through his political organization, GOPAC, is how to create a “shield issue” to deflect criticism:
“A shield issue is just, you know, your opponent is going to attack you as lacking compassion,” a GOPAC training tape advises. “You better find a good compassion issue where, you know, you show up in the local paper holding a baby in the neonatal center, and all you’re trying to do is shield yourself from the inevitable attack.”
But the clearest expression of Gingrich’s philosophy of media came in a GOPAC memo entitled “Language: A Key Mechanism of Control.” Distributed to GOP candidates across the country, the memo’s list of words for Democrats and words for Republicans was endorsed by Gingrich in a cover letter: “The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language.” Next time you hear Gingrich complain about media focusing on the negative, refer back to these lists.

Here’s a better link. It has the entire list of words, and the extremely classic GOPAC cover letter: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4443.htm
As you know, one of the key points in the GOPAC tapes is that “language matters.” In the video “We are a Majority,” Language is listed as a key mechanism of control used by a majority party, along with Agenda, Rules, Attitude and Learning. As the tapes have been used in training sessions across the country and mailed to candidates we have heard a plaintive plea: “I wish I could speak like Newt.” That takes years of practice. But, we believe that you could have a significant impact on your campaign and the way you communicate if we help a little. That is why we have created this list of words and phrases.

It doesn’t matter if you liberals hate gingrich or if he is a divisive character. He does the one thing that is most deadly to democrats, in a media driven by liberals he attracts attention. Every second spent on Romney and Gingrich, is a second Obama can never get back. Gingrich handed the media their own ass the other day, in spectacualar fashion. Exposing the reputable as smut peddalers. It worked well. Giving Republicans attention and allowing them to dominate the conversation is a bad move. The media, if they love Obama would do well to ignore and down play….But the lure of easy money is to great the power of stupidity perpetually under-estimated. The difference between Clinton and Gingrich is clear to anyone not mired in ideological idiocy. Clinton never made so-called”family values” the foundation of his philosophy, and Gingrich did. More, Gingrich waged war on Clinton BASED on an assertion of moral superiority WHILE committing adultery.
It’s really not complicated…if you pretend not to understand the difference, then you are honestly too stupid to live. And as far as media stooges, anyone else read Maureen Dowd’s bit Obama’s feel like victims of being underappreciated?
She is the queen stooge with this one.
Some quotes: “The Obama’s feel like victims…
..we saw the president we had craved for three years…
they (the Obamas) feel overassaulted and underappreciated…
..The question isn’t whether Barack Obama is ready to be President. The question is whether we’re ready..
…Obama was just too talented to do what ordinary people do…
…the Obamas, particularly Michelle, have radiated the sense that Americans do not appreciate what they have sacrificed…
Dowd has done a three and a half somersault off the high platform and done a perfect 10 face plant in the crotch of the Obamas with this one.
Talk about unbridled and non-disguised arrogance, I am not sure which has the most, the Obamas or Dowd.

At some point, nasty won’t sell. If Newt wins the nomination, during debates will he answer questions and look presidential, or will he bitch and moan and attack the moderators? All Obama will have to do is politely answer the questions and let Newt self destruct when his ego explodes. Also, I have the feeling that the more women see Newt, they are reminded of his treatment of his previous wives and will either stay home or vote for Obama.

GOP does want the guy who can beat O most
Many people are justly measuring this by quality of debate performance
While mitt did fine in most of the early debates, he’s had some real big flubs in the last couple debates
Ergo people are going for who they think turns in the strongest debate performance
It shows the overwhelming desire to beat O. Anda complete degradation in GOP principles when an anti capitalist serial adulterer wins a state election
Now, all that said, things will probably simmer down if – when mitt wins FL
But mitt needs to get better at the debates or he does stand a chance of being walloped by O later

They have fed it on resentment, and instilled it with a deep disdain for the media. In short, they have turned it into an audience utterly susceptibel to a man of Newt’s talents and eccentricities.”
Jay’s describing the spell that Democrats controlled by the far left casts over their base. He doesn’t point out that Gingrich won nothing in Iowa and New Hampshire and his win in South Carolina was compliments of Juan Williams and CNN’s John King. Much of the South Carolina vote I think reflected more of a protest against the media bias reflected by Williams and in particular King who Gingrich took to the woodshed on national television just before the primary vote began. Plenty more to go in this race and declaring Gingrich the Republican favorite and predestined winner is extremely premature and doesn’t even reflect current national polling of Republican voters.

Report of consulting Fannie Mae to the tune of 1.6 million, claim you are the historian and blame the media, etc. etc.

Well, Gnute was propelled to victory by the Tea Potty, Dixiecrat, foaming-at-the-mouth, Fright-Wing, hate-o-crat, nut cases.
Gnute’s win is the best of all possible outcomes. His loss to Barack Obama is virtually assured.
What a great day! On to victory, Gnute! On to victory!

If Newt makes it to the White House, I will have to console myself with watching all the simple tool cons struggling to defend one of the few politicians in America who can actually make us long for the days of George W. Bush.

Well, it’s obvious that Gnute tore up the memo from the RNC. You know, the one that says he’s supposed to “lay down” so that “someone” with an actual chance to beat Barack Obama can win the Republican nomination.
You didn’t really think Callister was going to stand for that. Not with her blind ambition she isn’t. Try to imagine Callister as first lady. She would be the laughing-stock of the World. Kids would go out and buy Callister wigs.
Friends, this is theater that can’t be dreamed up. Truly fact is stranger than fiction!

Food for thought
There will be a certain irony that the private equity guys will have done in one of their own, a smart and capable candidate, because of their lobbying and special exclusions regarding carried interest taxes
If mitt loses either the primary or general and if the taxes play a big role

It woldn’t be his to fix. Congress has to pass a bill to fix it and he has to sign it, but he can’t fix it on his own.

“Dole was a weak sister with no balls.”
And what could better illustrate the extent to which the collective GOP has swirled down the toilet bowl.
Dole was a highly decorated combat veteran of great courage and valor. He worked very hard as a representative for the Jayhawk State, and as a moderate – a hated word in GOP parlance, to be sure – he tried his best to see that our government was NOT gridlocked. A quiet man of conviction, he knew the meaning of compromise and statesmanship. And the people of Kansas adored him.
But the degenerate, derided Leroy Gingrich of Georgia?
A bombastic faux-intellectual who is the slimy polar opposite – a proven coward, a lying narcissist serial wife-cheater and a man, who more than any other in the history of the modern republic, created the cesspool of venom in Washington.
He would make a tremendous president – in the vein of George Walker Bush, Warren Harding and Herbert Hoover.
But you dead red cons don’t care a whit about any of that.
That you want that disgusting little pig to win so very badly is what I find enormously entertaining…
He’s yours cons, own him…

Recon: “Jay’s describing the spell that Democrats controlled by the far left casts over their base.”
And just what “far left” casts a spell over this timid and moderately conservative Democratic party, dare I ask?
Douglas Schoen, Rahm Emanual, Ben Nelson, and Evan Bayh Bayh?
With such an abuse of the political lexicon, I wonder what terms would be left for you to draw on if you were to ever encounter someone who was truly from the far left. Far far far super far left?

[T]he career of Newt Gingrich has long since peaked, with many mainstream political pundits even categorizing him as ‘unelectable’, but his recent record-breaking PAC donation from the Israeli lobby establishment figure Sheldon Adelson now begins to make sense. Note that Adelson is also an active financial supporter and media arm for Benjamin Netanyahu’s political career in Israel.
[C]asino magnate Sheldon Adelson recently dashed off a $5 million check to a group backing former House speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), marking what may be the largest single political contribution in U.S. history. Adelson is well known for supporting hard-line policies favoring Israel while also advocating measures that would benefit the gambling industry.
Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate who is not overtly ‘pro-Israel’ in the popular neoconservative sense. On January 13, in the run-up to the pivotal South Carolina GOP primary, the Emergency Committee for Israel, run by neoconservative thinker William Kristol, released an ad in which its Director Gary Bauer makes a plea to voters – not endorsing any candidate, rather, telling conservatives that they must reject Congressman Ron Paul as their GOP candidate, deriding his foreign policy views with respect to America’s ‘special relationship’ with Israel, and fighting the War on Terror – concluding that, “We can do better than Ron Paul.”
Should a foreign country, in this case Israel, be allowed to buy a significant influence through the media in American democratic elections? Should candidates be allowed to accept donations – even indirectly, from foreign interest PACs or agents thereof, thus creating a serious conflict of interest, and threat to national security?
[O]ne can only conclude that the American democratic system of elections has been manipulated and twisted to such a degree by powerful special interests, that major elections in the US cannot be classed as either free or fair. Rather they have warped into cynical, stage-managed events, engineered by the few in order to achieve a particular outcome.
This is a great article which I strongly recommend that you read.

Welcome
Our political system has been thrown so far out of balance because of the rightward surge of the GOP, that I’m not sure if anybody would know true Far-Leftist people if they took a dump on their front porch. The GOP has gone so far right that they probably have some Far-Lefts in their folds blending in perfectly.

Lemme see if I’ve got this right. Serial adultery, open marriages and passion-ant patriotism are now traditional Christian family values. Does that mean Unmentionable can have it, but I can’t, seeing as how we Chosen are, after all, held to a different standard? Oh, wait, I keep forgetting, gay folks don’t get to play.
If I were a preacher in South Carolina today, my text would be John 11:35.

I’m so tired of the opposition telling us who we should run. People fell for it last time and we ended up with McCain. Here’s a better idea. Ya’ll tell us the problem with our candidate and let us tell the problem with your candidate and we’ll go from there. The problem is, God forbid someone complain about God Obama. Then you are called a Nazi, a racist or a “far right wing” fill in the word. Why can’t we call those who oppose Newt a Communist, a race baiter or a “far left wing” fill in the blank? Hope and change has gotten us despair debt.
