At the midnight hour, when 2011 fades into history ….

I imagine that in bars, clubs and living rooms all over the country — all over the world, for that matter — various versions of this much-loved song will be playing as the clock draws nigh to the midnight hour tomorrow. However, I don’t think any version will outrock this one by the Blues Boy hisself, Mr. BB King, who by the way graces the historic Fox Theater tonight. Don’t know if tickets are still available, but if you haven’t seen him in person, neither you nor Mr. King are getting any younger.

Enjoy, and happy new year, y’all.

At the midnight hour, when 2011 fades into history, we will all get that warm fuzzy feeling that, somehow, things will be different this time and the new year will bring prosperity and gladness. When the new year turns into the old year, and it is about to fade into history, we will all get that warm fuzzy feeling that, somehow things will be different etc etc etc etc etc. However, a few of the existential persuason will have our usual despair as we realize it’s next to impossible that things will ever get any better and, if anything, will probably get worse. Is it better to see things as they really are or continue to live in a world of illusion and delusion?

Y’all talk about 2012 being better…well when it can’t get no worse, it’s got to get better…let me illustrate….At the turn of midnight from ‘68 into ‘69, Charlie decided to help us celebrate by mortaring our compound. They must have had inside knowledge because they were pretty accurate. Our standing orders were to get our boats out into the river to help protect our water side flanks, and repel any who tried to cross the river. I was headed that way when a group of rounds landed so close I felt the heat and heard the “bees” fly by. The slit trenches were between me and my boat and at the time, I felt that laying in sh*t as better than getting killed, so I dove in…as a great start to the new year of 1969, I landed on a Chief Petty Officer who had had the same idea and was quicker than me…Bottom line, ‘69 WAS better than ‘68, but not by much….all we can do is try to stay out of the sh*t…

I believe I heard that men and women in uniform get in to those games free, getalife.

Which reminds me of when I was stationed in Tampa. The Reds had their Single A team there and they had a deal if you showed up in uniform, you got in for free. I went a couple of times, once to see a spring training game between Cincy and the Yanks. Alas, I watched Catfish Hunter get lit up by the Big Red Machine. An omen of what was to come…(Oy!)

Speaking of what was to come, that song you linked jo, was the very first song on his very first album. Just an incredible talent.

From that same incredible Home Free LP, and my idea of country music…

You might want to switch your guiding philosophy away from barren existentialism and look into some practically-based Zen Buddhism, carlos. Buddhism teaches that our primary source of suffering is excessive focus on self. Enlightenment can only occur when we turn our attention outward.

Reminds me of my friend’s late grandfather. When he was about 76, he attracted a much younger woman who turned out to be a gold-digger. After 10 or so years of marriage, she divorced him due her frustration that he wasn’t dying fast enough. He ended up up making it to age 93. I was proud to be his pall bearer. I watched him pitch against inferior hitting in bigger parks then too, B. He was untouchable, no doubt, and at times, probably did have better stuff. But he also went 13 -20 the next season. And the Braves ONLY title happened because Glavine tossed a shutout against a power hitting Tribe team.

I still give Tommy the overall nod…

As a single moment in time, and as far as importance to Braves history, I can’t disagree with you. But, the comparisons end there. Carlton had 329 wins with 4,136 strikeouts and a 3.22 lifetime ERA, while Glavine had 305 wins with 2,607 strikeouts and a 3.54 lifetime ERA. Not even close in my book.

As for our lifetime, Greg Maddox quietly worked his way to 355 wins, 1 more than steroid enhanced Roger Clemons at 154 wins. That puts him 8th on the all-time list, and 2nd on the list behind Warren Spahn at 363 for pitchers in the modern era. I’ll go with Mad Dog as the greatest pitcher overall in our lifetime. If he got 1 or 2 runs early in the game, it was lights out for the other team.

I’ve been trying to find that ESPN commercial that Randy Johnson did where they named his slider “Mr. Snappy”. That was one of the most hilarious commercials ever, but I can’t find it anywhere. I’m with Bruno, RJ was a T-1000 or something, but he’s definitely not 100% human.

My choice for the best in my lifetime (since the 70’s) is Dennis Eckersley. That guy dominated as both a starter and reliever. I think he and Smoltz are still the only two that have thrown for both 20 wins and 50 saves in a season within their career.

And with Neikro, one must remember that for the most part the Braves sucked over that 20 year span. One can only imagine how many wins he might have if he played on good teams.

But those were memorable years for me……took my dates to the game and had an entire section to myself with our own personal vendor sitting on the stairs next to us……….ah, those were the days :)

Happy New Year

Note to liberalefty: God is what people call that energy which enables matter and life and is beyond human comprehension–or gods if they choose to perceive that energy as more than one energy defined by its effect. Naming the energy really doesn’t bother me.

What I find troublesome is that humanity has not outgrown the myths propogated by heresay into which many have been indoctrinated since childhood. Unless and until humanity is capable of maturing beyond primitave superstition, those self fulfilling prophesies of “Armageddon” loom.

Religion is–all religions are– man-made political power tool(s) feuled by fear and need and greed, including the ultimate greed — for eternal life.

The Christian majority in this country will tell you that God is all powerful, all knowing, present everywhere, the perfect and infallible creator of all that exists, the alpha/omega, the father of humanity–father, son, and holy ghost.

Unlike atheists, I will not tell you that there is no God; only that if that energy which enables matter and life has all the attributes above-mentioned, then the worship of such a being makes no sense. In this country, if a father of many children knows the stronger of those children are behaving badly–including physically harming and/or killing others, then we consider that father a criminal. That standard for good and bad/evil decides my view “God”.

The book of “Job” in the King James version of the Bible does not read to me as a lesson of patience — as is taught in Sunday School and Bible School; it is a lesson in S & M–with “God” as the sadist and Job as the fool.

The purpose and intent of religion is for the few to tell the many how to live. Granted, sometimes religion has been used for the benefit of humanity and in the interest of its peace and survival; however, much more often in history and now, religion is a tool of tyranny and hate and an excuse for vicious men to make war.

Mary Elizabeth

December 31st, 2011

Well done for a first interview on CNN.

I think Jay should keep pursuing being a television commentator, as a supplement to his editorial and blogging careers. He made no major blunders today on CNN and what he said had sanity – a trait much needed among TV commentators. Even the interviewer complimented Jay on having a different take than many, i.e. by focusing on how the “losers” (instead of the “winners”) effect the overall primary process. Jay’s comments regarding the process of primaries, as well as VP pursuits of the “losers,” were calm, sane, and rang true. His presentation was serious in intent, yet human (a chuckle or two). More times up to “bat” on live TV, will make his words flow as easily as they do for him with his pen. Also, the camera is good to Jay, which never hurts.

I remember one of Cynthia Tucker’s first spots on Chris’ Matthews’ Show and she was reticent and somewhat nervous. She has since bloomed into a confident and well spoken television commentator through simple practice and because of the number of times she has since been on TV. I predict Jay Bookman’s TV career will run the same course as Ms. Tuckers in terms of confidence gathered. One can easily polish presentation but having subtance is not so easy to come by. Substance is often either there, or it isn’t. In Jay Bookman’s case, it is there. Well done!

put more emphasis on the environment. We had an environmental unit with about 18 people and after I was let go, they disbanded that unit and they just cover the environment with the regular reporters, which is a good job but not as good if they were concentrating on it. I would like to see more international news and more — a little more serious, less yellow journalism. A little less who shot who”

cnn creates conflict to try to create news.

They are quiet. Then again everyone is probably out watching football. I know I’m watching football at home, checking emails, the blog, etc. I didn’t bother to watch Jay this morning. Nice plug for him though.

I figured they may be quiet over the looming elephant in the room where Obama is going to have to ask for another 1.2 Trillion to be added to the debt ceiling. Can’t wait to read Jay’s column on how necessary it is to put more debt on the little backs of our children. And of course the bevy of excuses as to how another 1.2 trillion in additional debt 3 years into Obama is really W’s fault. I saw an interesting clip on Obama yesterday on the campaign trail criticizing Bush over the debt, calling it immoral, asking about how he could pile debt onto our children’s backs. Oh but the irony of that clip. Truly ironical.

And for those who say Obama’s at fault for the price of gas AND he is anti-business, here’s a sledgehammer to break down that wall…

http://www.ajc.com/business/in-a-first-gas-1282017.html

In a first, gas and other fuels are top US export

NEW YORK — For the first time, the top export of the United States, the world’s biggest gas guzzler, is — wait for it — fuel.

Measured in dollars, the nation is on pace this year to ship more gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel than any other single export, according to U.S. Census data going back to 1990. It will also be the first year in more than 60 that America has been a net exporter of these fuels.

Just how big of a shift is this? A decade ago, fuel wasn’t even among the top 25 exports. And for the last five years, America’s top export was aircraft.

The trend is significant because for decades the U.S. has relied on huge imports of fuel from Europe in order to meet demand. It only reinforced the image of America as an energy hog. And up until a few years ago, whenever gasoline prices climbed, there were complaints in Congress that U.S. refiners were not growing quickly enough to satisfy domestic demand; that controversy would appear to be over.

[...]

There’s at least one domestic downside to America’s growing role as a fuel exporter. Experts say the trend helps explain why U.S. motorists are paying more for gasoline. The more fuel that’s sent overseas, the less of a supply cushion there is at home.

Gasoline supplies are being exported to the highest bidder, says Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service. “It’s a world market,” he says.

Refining companies won’t say how much they make by selling fuel overseas. But analysts say those sales are likely generating higher profits per gallon than they would have generated in the U.S. Otherwise, they wouldn’t occur.

There are a LOT of things currently missing from the Constitution.

That’s the problem when the courts prostitute it for political goals.

It means what it meant when it was written ……….. pure and simple.

If you want to change it (even for good) ………… amend it.

George Washington warned us best when he said:

“If in the opinion of the People, the distribution or modification of the Constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed.”

Take time tomorrow if you can to read Washington’s farewell address to the nation. It is extraordinary in its scope. None of us would agree with every part but its wisdom is awe inspiring.

The below site has the entire address, an outline and a vocabulary of certain words of that age:

I call particular attention to a portion of the outline below:

VI. Religion and Morality.
A. Are “indispensable supports” for “political prosperity.”
B. Are the “firmest props of the duties of Men and Country.”
C. The oaths in our courts would be useless without “the sense of religious obligation.”
D. “And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion.”
E. “Reason and experience both forbid us to expect, that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”

Well, I went to church this morning and it was a fine place to be as usual. It was still beautiful with a huge Christmas tree of white Chrismons, poinsettia islands of red & white, candles burning and the organ booming out joyous carols. (Lutherans sing the usual Christmas hymns after the big day. Otherwise it is Advent.)

So there was joy today. I even thought of Josef. As Numbers 6 was being read “and the Lord spoke to Moses among other things ‘Thus you shall bless the Israelites’” followed by that wonderful benediction. I kinda figure Josef got a generous share of good sense along the way(on some days).

Be grateful you don’t live in Fulton County with your pets, Kam. County officials have now hired a Texas firm to collect license renewal fees for pets, at $25 per pop. The bill is accompanied by a threat of court action for failure to renew. If you take your pets to a vet for shots and licensing, the vet forwards the initial licensing fee, along with the names of the pets and the owner, to the county. You’re then on the hook annually as long as your pet lives.

http://pandagon.net/index.php/site/comments/best_worst_sex_lies_of_2011

excerpt follows. But seriously, read the whole thing.

My personal theory is that when Jon Kyle said that 90% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortion, he felt that was accurate, because the word “abortion” is slowly becoming a catch-all phrase on the right to describe any health care that allows women to have happier, healthier sex lives. So, you or I, when we say “abortion”, mean “terminating a pregnancy”. But Kyle probably includes Pap smears and condoms in his list of things that are “abortion”. Anything that allows sexually active women to avoid conceiving against their will, contracting an STD, or dying? The end game for anti-choicers is to get all that defined as “abortion”. Kyle was just being a little over eager.

Speaking of 99% and/or 1%…

If you can trust our lawmakers to be remotely honest on disclosure forms, the contrast in DC mirrors that of America as a whole.

Richest and ‘poorest’ members of Congress
Members of Congress with the highest and lowest net worth in 2010, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics based on disclosures filed by the lawmakers.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/25-richest-members-of-congress/2011/07/11/gIQAmtxiMK_gallery.html?hpid=z6#photo=1

Democrats account for 12 of the top 25 in net worth and they account for 15 of the bottom 25. The range in net worth swings from Rep. Issa at the top with an average net worth of $448,125,017 to Rep. Alcee Hastings who reported a net worth of -$4,732,002 according to their disclosure forms. I can see those at the top protecting those with money as they belong to that same group. It gets a bit scary though to know that someone has a net worth in the negative millions and are entrusted with a job of that importance. The average citizen can not get a job with the government if they can’t pass a credit check. I don’t see how someone with a negative net worth in the millions can pass a credit check.

I’d go for that, especially since he’s a Rep in Florida. I’m more concerned with the potential for corruption to creep in to offset that negative worth. If I had his net worth, I’d be on my way out of my job as I type. That’s a part of the big double standard that I don’t particularly care for amongst people working for the government.

I can’t accept any gift more than $25 from someone or I’m looking for another job. I think that’s perfectly fair as I’ve read numerous stories of corrupt officers on the borders. At the same time, a congressman sitting on the Homeland Security committee can accept a much larger gift with no adverse action whatsoever. We both have potential to be corrupted and cause damage to this country, yet stringent ethics rules are in place for only one of us, and it’s not the one with the secret/top secret clearance.

Where will any of you be when the Earth will stop turning? It could be in 2012 or it could be 2020. I know one thing for certain: the Socialist-Democrat Party of America will not be there to save you. You have to save yourself by finding God, Jesus and taking the steps to insure that you and your family will make it through the impending doom. For me, I just don’t understand why this once-free nation does not have a plan for a jihadist attack-which is the most likely scenario. I cannot stress how important it is to have a fortified shelter stocked with non-perishables, monetary funds and other necessities. In my case, it’s plenty of Pork ‘n Beans, gold, DC power supplies, the Good Book on CDs and tapes of some of the most inspirational folk out there including Mr. Beck, Mr. Hannity, Mr. Boortz and Mr. Limbaugh. So, who will save you? Hussein Obama? Bawney Frank? My bet is they will be nowhere to be found.

So BOW thinks gold will be of any use in his doomsday scenario, and he thinks jihadis can conquer our nation in fell swoop. As well he will listen to the word of god on CD’s, even though his particular doomsday scenario most likely posits that the power grid will be down, so he’ll waste precious fuel to run the generator to do what he could otherwise do the old fashioned way… by reading…

Much like the party BOW loves so much, he is a bit of a conundrum… Much like Newt whining about unlimited, unaccountable money in presidential politics, or like the average wingnut declaring there will be no compromising, and then compromising on thier candidate’s baggage…
I could go on and on, but it serves no purpose. BOW is a caricature of a caricature of a standard wingnut voter. I don’t think he even exists.

One fear is that a rogue planet that has been dubbed “Nibiru” or “Planet X” is supposedly aimed at Earth. Self-proclaimed Nibiru expert Nancy Lieder, who says she is in contact with the aliens from Zeta Reticuli, first said Nibiru would cause widespread disaster in May 2003, only to change it to Dec. 21, 2012.

There is, however, no evidence that Nibiru is real.

“Nibiru is ridiculous because it doesn’t exist — it never existed as anything other than a figment of the imagination by pseudo-scientists who don’t seem bothered by a complete lack of evidence,” astronomer Don Yeomans, manager of NASA’s Near-Earth Object program office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., told SPACE.com.

And Republican candidates, except Jon Huntsman, have apparently welcomed our new Nibirian overlords….

Newt claimed he has studied the planet extensively in his continued pursuit of “superiority” and would be willing to have a Nibirian as his fourth wife.

Romney at first denied the existence of Nibiru but then later said that he did not deny it, that he believes and that prior denials were just a joke (all as he drank from his Obama birth certificate coffee cup).

Ron Paul said that in a free and libertarian economy that planets colliding would not occur because the free market would not let it happen and he suggested that the solution was in the latest book he was reading, stacking humans on top on one another to push it away and that he was in search of Yertle.

Bachmann denied that members of her campaign have left for the big money of Nibirian government jobs and suggested that she be the czar of the relocation camps.

Trump said he has been hosting Nibirians as his head piece for years. “Come on, you dont really think anyone would have hair like this naturally? And this orange glow? John Boehner, upon hearing the news, weeped “yes its true, he got the hair and the glow…… I struggled to get the glow.”

And Rick Santorum earmarked more funds to support marriage with the Nibirians. “Yes I am against same sex marriage, but as Captian Kirk demostrated years ago, sex with aliens can occur. It of course does not even mean you are unfaithful or destroying a family unit.”

It is the “illegals” who have caused the tightening of police surveillance. Most people in Arizona do not want their state to be part of Mexico.

I might add that there have been many efforts by USA and Mexico to stop illegal movements across the border. One main reason is HUNDREDS DIE EVERY SUMMER IN THE DESERT. Among them were those you know had to have been given by the captors, Runs Too Fast, and our personal favorite, Dirty Belly. There among them was Walte Gutter..some poor klepper shmo rounded up and, little doubt, whose Yiddish was a sure sign he was Indian!

By Craig Whitlock, Published: July 9

KABUL — The United States is “within reach” of defeating al-Qaeda and is targeting 10 to 20 leaders who are key to the terrorist network’s survival, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Saturday during his first trip to Afghanistan since taking charge at the Pentagon.

Panetta, who led the CIA until June and oversaw the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, strongly endorsed the Obama administration’s increasingly aggressive campaign to hunt down al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. He hinted of more to come, saying he would redouble efforts by the military and the spy agency to work together on counterterrorism missions outside the traditional war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq.”

I’ve wondered for years why that hasn’t happened. If the gov’t didn’t want to make stuff up, all they had to do was give a huge splash at a news conference about “what we found on OBL’s hard drive” and “what we found on Awlaki’s hard drive” and list the hundreds of megabytes of porn titles. There was a blip in the news about it but not nearly the splash they could have made with it.

On New Year’s Eve, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck northeastern Ohio, the second quake to strike the region in a week. Saturday’s earthquake, which occurred in an area not typically known for this type of natural disaster, is being traced back to fluid injection wells at a Youngstown fracking site. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, “the quake was the 11th over the last eight months in Mahoning County, all within two miles of the injection wells.” They also point out that injection wells have been linked to earthquakes in other states as well, including Arkansas, West Virginia, Colorado and Texas. Two of the Ohio injection wells in question are now being shut down.

Dang that EPA and their regulations….. oh wait, that’s right. Bush specifically exempted fraking from EPA control. But I am sure the free market will keep Buckeyes safe.

Well, Keep has given us the latest alarm sheet from lib headquarters. Tied to Bush, of course.

Let’s see. FRACKING is used by 90% of natural gas wells in the USA. But all of a sudden, they are the cause of earthquakes in OHIO. Earthquakes happen all over the world BUT those in OHIO are caused by FRACKING (and fracking was allowed by George W. Bush in changes for the EPA!! ANDDDD Halliburton owns some of that stuff!)

Woohoo…I wold have never guessed that George W. Bush caused earthquakes in OHIO. Now it is clear as a crystal!

Carlos,

With fracking done in 90% of natural gas well in many parts of the country, I am sure they are taking every precaution known. I don’t imagine they want to shut themselves out of business.

Strange that fracking only “causes earthquakes” in Ohio and yet earthquakes occur all over the world even when there is no fracking. Sure there can be mistakes just like there are mistakes with oil wells. But nobody is saying get rid of all oil wells. They try to do it better.

But the main emphasis on recent fracking is because liberals want to tie Bush & Republicans to what they call “ruining the environment for business”.

If Democrats were not so obvious, more people would listen. Right now it sounds like programed political whining.

It’s all in perspective. Personally, you may not think this country has gone to hell. However, the 42 year single parent who lost his/her job in 2008-09 an hasn’t found work yet might not feel the same way. Especially when politicians campaigned in 2008 (Democrats) and 2010 (Republicans) on job creation and have not done anything towards helping those who really need help.

Do you think your friends out in Arizona don’t have the perspective to think that this country has gone to hell when there are people who can afford to live in homes in 3-4 different parts in the country while they can’t even afford decent basic housing? The slow descent into hell has gone unnoticed by many except for those who are really feeling the heat.

I am sure the unemployed are unhappy to say the least. But I believe in helping people only to the extent that it enables them to help themselves. IN the best of times, there will still be some unemployment. I do not see rendering the country into overall poverty and indebtness in the name of rescue. Independence usually means self reliance and if we do not aim for that, we will have no success.

As to Arizona, it is not a super state of rich people. The Indian Americans have been blessed with much assistance, healthcare and many in Arizona have thrived on their own initiatives. . Many “snowbirds”,i.e. retired folks, also live in Arizona on their pensions and Soc Security to which they contributed. There are some “rich” who come for the weather and the joy of a desert environment but they are only a small percentage.

If you want to see dramatic loss through poverty, go to places like Detroit and Cleveland and even Chicago. Don’t believe the words of every activist you read. Arizona is no hellhole for anybody. It is a great state now pushed to defend itself. Perhaps you should study California if you want to know an upset state.

I have family in Detroit, so I have seen what’s happening there with my own eyes. You also forget that I have the luxury of talking to people from not just all over this country, but from all around the world. Our poor here, for the most part, have it much better than the poor around the world. However, one should expect that in a country that is one of the wealthiest in the world.

What I don’t see is how someone can just paint everything as it’s all rosy or ok when there are people who are really hurting in this country. I find it curious that people espouse the abundant Christianness of this country but castigate the government’s emphasis on helping those who most need it. To articulate it as creating a permanent dependent class is merely deflection in an attempt to not honestly discuss what’s going on in this country because we are all permanently dependent upon our government in some shape, form, or fashion. If it’s for defense, for food safety, travel safety, or just having a safe plot of land to call home, we’re all depend on the government, and we pay for that dependence as well.

As to Arizona not being a hellhole, ask that to someone who’s home has lost most of it’s value and they’re stuck with no option to move, sell or anything else. Hell does not have one specific definition, so one person’s heaven might be someone else’s hell.

I think that is partly due to the result of putting MBA’s and Accountants in control of companies and making the tough decisions. They are great for making decisions that will make you money. You seem determined to say that American is a hellhole and only the government can rescue us. I don’t believe that. First, if we are a hell hole why are people trying so hard to get here? It is a place where they know thay have a chance at a good and decent life in freedom and they are correct.

Is Arizona a hellhole? No it is not. It is not all peaches and cream either. It is a good state demanding it’s own defense from invasion. Do you sit back and defend the property you own or do you sit down and say “Take it!”.

I’m afraid that you overlook what Christians are doing. They form one of the most helpful groups in America. Besides their own noprofit outreach, they aid many other non-religious endeavors such as BREAD for the WORLD, UNICEF, Heifer International, and many others. Christians were taught charity on the personal level. That is, do it yourself with love in your heart. The government is not God, It can be a God-given gift as our independence is. But it does not or should not replace the charity of mankind.

gotta run. Hope I didn’t bore you. I enjoyed the discussion.

Bro – In graduate school (years ago) there were many scenarios created and studied for business downturns. Layoffs and plant closing were always considered as the ‘LAST’ remedy.

Bonus cuts, no dividends, etc were considered first as it was thought the the employees were thought of as integral to the longterm survival of the company.

Sad to say now the first options are layoffs to inflate the bottom line (bonuses and dividends) without concern for the ramifications for the future survival.

Fraking must be safe…. despite having caused earthquakes along the east coast, arkansas, ohio and other places….. but Dusty assures us that corporations would never do anything to harm humans or business: With fracking done in 90% of natural gas well in many parts of the country, I am sure they are taking every precaution known. I don’t imagine they want to shut themselves out of business

Why just look at Dusty’s evidence….. BP and their carribean seal clean up plan, Enron, WorldCom. Why look at the Love Canal, mining disasters and peanut butter contamination. Yes corporations always take every precaution known and never take short cuts or decide that the bottom line is worth the risk especially when the taxpayers foot the bill or when the profits can greatly exceed what they may actually pay for in human deaths or injuries after fighting lawsuits for years. But I am sure Dusty would not be blowing in the wind….

I mean if she says it is impossible that fraking could be causing SOME earthquakes, why it just must be. I mean we KNOW that all fires are naturally caused and that HUMANS never cause some fires. So if you claim a fire could have been caused by a human, in Dusty world, you point to a fire started by lightning and say, See Humans did not cause that fire, so they can’t be at all responsible for this other fire.

Bruno,

I feel good about Alabama. Statistically they outplayed LSU the first time around but there is the matter of them 4 missed field goals.

Historically though there have been several rematches of top tier teams over the years- not just FSU-UF in 96 but a few other top rematches in the 70s and 80s such as OU-Neb. The team that lost the first time won in the rematch. I’ve also read that the losing team has a better chance 2nd time around because they will throw more different things at the other team since what they did the first time wasn’t good enough to win. The winning team usually doesn’t change aggressively enough in a rematch since their original gameplan was good enough to win. Plus the revenge factor. I like Bama but I’m still not going to wager on it because LSU is one helluva team to bet against.

You seem determined to say that American is a hellhole and only the government can rescue us.

Nope. I am determined to get you to understand that different people have different perspectives when looking at the same exact thing. You can not use YOUR personal perspective to try to answer for everyone else because neither you nor I know the circumstances of their situations. Nowhere have I stated that that only the government can save us, so don’t try to project that conservative talking point in my direction. There is a time and place for everything, government included. That doesn’t mean that they, or anyone else, is the only answer every time, all the time.

I’m afraid that you overlook what Christians are doing. They form one of the most helpful groups in America.

I’m afraid you’re wrong. I see what Christians are doing all around the world. I’ve participated in many events to help out in communities and such myself. Yes, they form one of the most helpful groups in America. However, they form one of the most hurtful groups in Political America. It’s all in perspective and personal experience. What’s good for you personally might not be good for the person across the street from you. Until you acknowledge and respect the fact that different people will always have different perspectives, you will never figure that out.

Bro – the main problem seems to be in the focus of the education of the MBA grads.

Long term viability of a company vs. short term profit.

I worked for a company that layed off half the technical staff(programmers, analysts, etc) while at the same time giving high bonuses to the officers.

At the same time they walked away from a previously supported software product on a database to the tune of 1/2 million a year in revenue for software support alone. short term stupidity vs long term profit.
