I could, I suppose, write some 3,000-word essay about the capitulation of the House GOP and how it burnishes President Obama’s reputation as a leader, and how it will make things difficult for Republican leadership when they are forced to revisit the issues again in two months. They’ve already demonstrated that they can’t afford the political price of blocking the bill; on the other hand, they’ve got a core of backbenchers who never liked the legislation in the first place, and whose anger and frustration will only increase after this.
On the other hand, it’s almost Christmas, and I’m supposed to be on vacation. So let’s go this route instead.
Here’s the Washington Post’s take on what happened yesterday:

The headlines on the home page of Politico pick up the theme as well:

And finally, here’s how the conservative National Review saw the outcome:

Has there ever been any resolution on how or why Obama was able to buy a house from Rezko for 300k when virtually the exact same house next door sold for 700k.

One more oops–168 + 56 = 224, not 214, requiring 112 packs of buns to match the 120 packs of HN dogs and 35 packs of BP dogs.
That is my final HMC answer. All previous attempts I blame on subsequent education.

You don’t have to be Bill Gates. You can be a very small time entrepreneur and do very well in this country. As long as the govt stays off your back of course.
Check the literacy rates and such here in the US and think about that for a minute. If you’re counting bank robbery, drug dealing, and prostitution as being entrepreneurs doing well, you might have a point, but owning a successful business, even a small one, isn’t as easy as you paint it out to be. You’ve gotta have work ethic first and foremost.

Indeed. And not only that. You also need a system where capital actually can get to people interested in investing for entrepreneurial pursuits. Which absolutely is NOT the case now. Right now there is an absolute stranglehold on capital for purely speculative purposes.
What we have now — Adam Smith would be rolling in his grave — is the supreme reign of the rentier.

Why do hot dog packs and hot dog bun packs come in different numbers? One eight and one 10.
I hate that too. You know most people think you gotta buy 8 * x = 10 * y or a ratio of 5 of 8-packs for every 4 of the 10-packs in order to make the numbers work out. It’s a conspiracy, I tell you. Well I just refuse to play by their rules so I take two out of an eight pack and put in my eight pack to make it a ten pack and it works out just fine for me.

Obama has those rascal GOP dudes on the run; got ‘em scared to death. They’ll probably invite him to raise the tax rate on those stingy old rich people even above the 43.4% rate beginning in 2013. That’ll teach ‘em a lesson; that’ll make ‘em quit making all that dirty old money. And when Obama wrings all the money out of those wealthy stinking rich people, they can go on welfare like the rest of us.

Never said it was easy. Nothing worth doing ever is. But I’ve seen a friend with no car and no money, no office, no drivers license because of DUIs, nothing, start a business which is now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly a million or more. He has had offers to buy out his company and he is now offering franchises. And before starting this company this guy was a complete and total loser. Not to mention a drunk. And there was no “luck” involved. He just got tired of being a loser and went to work.

The rich can pay a little more. They are going to have to. But ultimately the problem is spending. If we taxed the top million households at a 100% clip and took ALL their income we would raise something like 600 billion I think it was. If the deficit was 1.3 trillion were still 700 billion in the hole. The problem is spending.

Some folks are complaining about the payroll tax cut because its not a tax cut at all. Its simply taking money from SS which was prefunded and as a historical fact was set up to be separate from federal govt revenues. All we are doing is stealing SS money. And the shortfall to SS is going to have be made up eventually somewhere, somehow. The bill will eventually come due and the piper will have to be paid. Plain and simple.

OK, josef, I’ve got your lesson plan all worked out. You start by showing the students how ordinary Americans are being screwed by corporations by being forced to purchase 5 packs of BP hot dogs and 4 packs of buns in order to balance the number of dogs and buns. Then, after a brief history of Jewish suffering, you show how the Jews are really being robbed by having to purchase 10 packs of HN dogs and 7 packs of buns. Then, in a bid for world peace, you show that by working together, Jews and Gentiles can get by with purchasing only 3 packs of buns for each purchase of 2 BP and 2 HN dogs.
I’m thinking “Teacher of The Year”.

Even though it’s Christmas, I hope people are paying attention to all this because it directly affects their ability to pay for things they may want or need next year. About the only thing that gets the average American to pay attention to what’s going on in Washington is to reduce their paycheck. Then and only then will they start asking who is responsible for this.

Do you want to know what the really ironic and funny upside to this whole situation really is?
With the dumbing down of America led by Jimmy Carter since the establishment of the Department of Education (with eager help from teachers unions and democrats), added to what I gleefully call SASA (short attention span America), by this time next week, this whole issue will have been completely forgotten.
Why else could you think that the dimwittocrats want to make this a monthly issue until election time, so they can remind the ignorant masses of what they are supposedly doing for them?
Just go into any ghetto in America and also ask how this welfare thing has really worked out for them since LBJ, or how many of their kids are still living at home, where’s their daddy, have an education or are pursuing one, or perhaps how many were killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, or murdered by a local gang or drug dealer?
Go ask.

The Republicans in Congress did blow it, not because they were wrong on the substance, but because they were incredibly foolish to not understand this was not an issue they could win in public opinion with the msm being as biased as it is. I think that’s the reason some conservative media have also criticized the Republicans in the House so much. Anyway, what have we also learned from the msm about this debacle? Well, one thing we’ve learned is that the economic growth will substantially slow down without this 2 month extension of a small 2% tax cut/holiday and that the economy may even collapse again and fall back into recession. That’s a tacit admission from the msm that taxes do hurt economic growth and job creation. The continuation of this 2% tax holiday is also an example of robbing Paul to pay Peter. So that Peter can get this measly 2% (average $167) tax cut for another 2 months, any Paul who takes out a mortgage in future will pay a few thousand dollars more in interest over the full life of the mortgage (ie 30 years) to pay for the 2 month continuation of this stupid tax cut which undermines the connection between social security benefits and the individuals receiving such benefits having earlier paid for that right. When the right correctly points out that about 50% of people pay no federal income taxes, the left usually responds well so what, they pay payroll taxes. Now we know that the strategy of the left is to make sure they pay very little payroll taxes as well, goal being to excuse a higher and higher share of population from sharing in the funding of government, creating an increasingly large constituency who have a vested interest in taxing the minority so that money can be transferred to the majority who pay little to nothing, thus sustaining Democratic Party voting majorities into perpetuity. That’s the cynical strategy anyway, and the Republicans walked into it over a year a go when they signed onto the first payroll tax holiday.

Obama has been a very patient poker player. He did not waste his bullets on the earlier extortion of the rookie Republican mob, just stood guard on the jail while the hot blooded youth impressed each other with childish stunts and speeches. He led these worldly youth right up to the sunrise of the election with them preoccupied with their petty causes that clog this wounded nation and burden it citizens with poverty and fear. O has allowed the public a front row seat as he now decides to strap on his gun and meet them in the streets once and for all. A black John Wayne with the patience of a Gregory Peck has done more to restructure the Republican Party than Ronald Regan. The GOP pups and their barbershop pundits now are about to be checkmated in an historic landslide victory by the Democratic Party that was inconceivable only a few months ago. It is all over but the shouting.

You sit and point fingers and say how humiliating this was for the Republicans. Well, how humiliating is it for a sitting President to have a wife that flies off on a $4-million Christmas vacation without him and will
not spend Christmas at the White House? You speak of humiliating when the sitting President takes that much tax-payer money and flaunts it on himself and family when many American families will not have a Christmas, much less a vacation to Hawaii. This man is a mockery of the position he holds. Obama “won” nothing. He just showed how inept and broken our whole system is. Oh, by the way, Merry Christmas to all.

Grapedrankisha I think that is already in progress in a county called Jefferson, in a state called Alabama. They have plenty of where with all to chase those “illegals” the federal government can’t handle, but they have a case of the shorts when it comes to paying their bills. In contrast a little county in Rhode Island with the same problem actually tighten its belt and refused to default on the faith and resources it put behind its name and the bond it sold. Maybe Rhode Island has a little more resources because it wasn’t trying to support a one state revolution against the rest of the world for the causes of hate and fear. A real showcase for our country on the reality of red state thinking.

luangtom checked the rosters of Wall Street and see where they are vacationing this holiday season. The equation is far more out of balanced with them. They have bankrupted the country and took huge bonuses in return. Where I think Republicans misunderstand the moderates is we don’t begrudge success in this country, we just stand in total consternation watching bailout money being used for bonuses, failure being rewarded. Obama has worked hard for his money. I doubt many investors on Wall Street, the individuals that is, would vote this crew of entitled freeloaders back into office if they could get a chance to vote, but Wall Street has rigged the game where they don’t get to vote, they just get to send the money, how convenient. Obama will win a landslide victory against a practically self destructed Republican Party that owes a part of its failure to supporting the bums on Wall Street. Obama is a winner he desires a vacation where ever he wants to go. The public will loudly support that in November.

All hail Obama-savior of all that is good.
You libs are so full of the handout mentality that you actually believe in tax cuts-when they are for us but proclaim the, to be bad in every other instance . Remember Tax cuts are bad in all other circumstance .
Praise the king for giving you 40 bucks a check back in taxes.
Meantime you are happy to ban new jobs in right to work states, happy to threaten arrest against an Arizona sheriff who enforces the immigration laws, happy to mandate that union members have to give money to labor leaders who buy votes from the party which will force them to join the exact same union. Happy to call republican leaders “war criminals” (see aqua girl’s post) when it is ok for democratic presidents to take police actions or conduct war via NATO, in order to skirt the US constitution.
Yeah the same party that wants freedom from the oppressive business world while they have no problem at all in letting that same group pay 40 percent of all the taxes collected.
Stand firm libs, you are now the tax cutting party, remember that when you actually find out that the only tax cut you support is the one that will bankrupt your own social security when you retire-if you work.
But then again you don’t really have to worry about social security do you ? You will simply demand that the 40 percent of taxes paid by “the rich” be increased to 60. In the name of fairness of course.

Democrats have been pandering to the Losers and Leeches in society for the past 60 years and this payroll “tax cut” is more of the same. Democrats give less than $80 to the average worker and the usual Left Loons, aquagirl, carlos and the others, hail this great victory. Leeches, leeches, leeches – that is the only way Democrats and their followers know how to live.
Democrats do not care about the long-term damage created by more borrowing to pay for this travesty, JUST SHOW ME THE MONEY YOU HAVE FOR “ME” NOW! You Left Parasites are a joke and are destroying a once great nation.
The Democrats, and the Left Loons who vote for them, do not give one whit for the people they have condemned to a life of poverty with their give-away programs. Just keep voting for Democrats, damn what is best for the country, “just give me more money” say the moronic Left Loons.
A scourge on all your houses you self-centered destroyers of pride and work ethic. The past 3 years have been a classic demonstration of the philosophy of the Left. Steal from investors (GM and Chrysler), give more money to those who provide nothing of value (aquagirl, carlos, etc.) and create many more trillions of dollars of debt so that the Soros, Dell, Rockefeller crowd can steal more money from the middle class along with Goldman Sachs.
Cheeleaders, like Bookman, who continue to spew this uneducated drivel supporting Barack Hussein Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are the crux of the problem. Free press indeed! The achievers will ultimately be as far from this country as the jobs the Democrats have destroyed with their tax and spend philosophy and you Liberal Dolts will be standing in bread lines, begging for gruel and wondering where all the freebies went.

” pandering” is another one of those misdirected words Republicans use like liberal, or gay or illegal, a generalization of the conditions at hand. It is destroying your party, but I don’t think you care. The wonderful thing about this country is it is not destroying our country. For a while I worried that someone could believe that any American that dare speak his mind was a liberal, or even worse a enemy of this country.
Fear has strained American ingenuity. It is the same fear that will never allow China or any country that cannot have the exchange of thought and expression to exist, to become a land where dreams can be answered. We don’t know where that inspiration will come, we keep trying to mass produce it, politically correct it or to fake it. If you are standing still in this world you may very well be falling behind. Fear freezes you, it plays to our enemies, it is the weakness if we allow it of this country.

Obama is not looking so bad when you consider the alternative. Republican congress is a joke and so is Neuter.

Twas the day after Christmas, when all through the house,
Few creatures were stirring, most were too soused.
The ashes in the chimney wre cold and dull gray
And Santa had long since passed that way.
The children were playing in all the big boxes,
Super active they were from all the sweet chocolates.
Their toys were scattered from hither and yon,
And all new gadgets were dropped with a yawn.
Mom was asleep in the brand new recliner
And Dad cursed the tricycle’s intricate designer.
The cat climbed the tree and tore off the lights,
While the dog chewed a hambone from the feast of last night.
GrandMa had sent a lovely fruitcake,
From down in Claxton where it was baked.
Grandpaw loved his slippers although they were small,
And he was still saying “Merry Christmas to all!”
Santa was back at the cold North Pole
And Rudolph got a bandaid for his nose so droll.
But many remembered the star in the sky
Realized great joy and knew just why.
So now, good folks, there comes a new day,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! More joy! It’s on the way!

As Americans we seriously need stop thinking about the Nations debt. America is being in some serious debt since the end of world II. We keep adding to this debt by nation building and many many military bases we have all over the world and that is socialism in it’s true sense. When the Tea Party and other conservative idiots talk about cut spending, NONE, zero talk about the military spending of this Country. We are all greatly STUPID. Oh Ron Paul talks about our crazy military spending…….and 99% funded by the little people.

us dems are way smarter than the repubs – we are always right and they are always wrong, they are for the rich and we are for the poor, they think you should earn your money and we think it should be handed to us, they have no good ideas we have all the good ideas, repubs lie, dems tell the truth, repubs watch fox news – which is biased, we watch cnn and nbc – they are never biased.

The humiliating thing is that these morons in Congress and the leftist President think that the US taxpaying voters are stupid and will swallow this B.S. about giving us a break with this irrelevant temporary reduction in the SS tax! This will make no difference in the economy or unemployment! And in fact, WILL SPEED UP THE BANKRUPTCY OF THE SS SYSTEM! If the SS system is going to be broke in 30 or so years, WHY WOULD YOU REDUCE THE TAX MONEY COMING IN TO IT AND SPEED UP THAT BANKRUPTCY??????? If you want to help the US taxpayers, REDUCE THE INCOME TAX!!!!!!!!! FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

You mean the route you take every time?

Thanks Dems for ruining the culture of personal responsibility.
For example: 3 days ago I purchased a used Iphone from a 20-sumpin Nubian princess. Had a few scuffs on it so she said she wanted a new one. Paid her cash, after tax cash for you non-working types. Anyway so I take it to Verizon to get it activated and they tell me it was reported stolen- 2 days after I paid this fine you female for it. Of course I called her on her “other” number and she was dumb enough to take the call.
When asked about it she said her boyfriend (maybe she said “baby daddy) told her to report it stole so the insurance would “get her a new one.”. Seemed entirely logical to her that the insurance company should pay for her new phone. Of course, if it got me arrested or the phone conviscated, so the F what – I gots me a new phone. (that I surely deserve)
And, these idiots vote.

Take personal responsibility, DinkDunk. You got punked by what you describe as “a 20-sumpin Nubian princess”, and now you want to whine about it?
What do you want, government intervention to save you from your foolish decisions?
