The second major poll is as many days reports significant improvement in President Obama’s job-approval rating.
Here’s the first, released Monday by Washington Post/ABC News:

Source: Washington Post/ABC News
Here’s the second, showing quite similar movement, from CNN:

Source: CNN
And why the change? Some numbers from CNN explain:

Source: CNN
Meanwhile, congressional Republicans continue to throw childish tantrums in Washington over extending the tax break for working Americans, and GOP presidential candidates continue to pitch woo at their party’s more extreme elements.
They can’t hep it, they just cain’t hep it.

Collectively, I wouldn’t trust them to teach a fish how to swim. The Dems would make fish wear OSHA approved life jackets and go through a government required “training” program (replete with a new federal dept.) and the Republicans would drain all the water out of lakes and rivers under the guise of “job creation” and blame fish for being unproductive members of society.
And that’s a BEST case scenario.

OFF TOPIC but hilarious nonetheless:

Why any hard working, middle class American would ever vote for another Republican is beyond me. The GOP has just proven that they are the party of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. They will fight tooth and nail to not raise taxes on millionaires one penny, but will allow the payroll tax cut to expire and raise taxes on millions of American workers. Good to know come November.

@ Nope–I agree. You know what else? Funny how our system works so that the rich and big corporations are nearly always the ones (with media fanfare to look good in the public eye) making a “charity” to those less fortunate. A fairer tax code and job expansion would mean a stronger middle class again, with supposedly fewer less fortunate.

As I mentioned earlier on the older column, the CNN survey is noteworthy but shouldn’t be taken with any seriousness. It contains registered voters but does not disclose what party affiliation those surveyed belonged. Additionally, the WashPost/ABC poll surveyed ‘adults’, but not registered voters therefore the validity of the poll is in question and should not be taken seriously.

Relating to the Jay’s earlier piece on Newt and the Judiciary, I find it amusing that there were those here applauding Obama’s public admonishment of the SCOTUS about their ruling on campaign finance during his SOTU speech. Now it appears that he and the Democratic party are far outpacing the Republicans in raking in lobbyist dollars. The Obama administration’s willingness to hire lobbyists is scary and I don’t know but that he hasn’t hired more of these parasites than any other sitting president. This is an administration that is for sell. It absolutely reeks of Chicago Style politics. The fact that the lobbyists are funneling money to the democrats and to Obama pretty much proves that they (the lobbyists) know that they can get what they want much easier by supporting them. Lobbyists don’t care about what is best for America. They are all about greed and they migrate to the path of least resistance which in this case is Obama and the dims.

The most interesting feature in todays Washington Post was much more interesting than the above..
OpEd by Walter Pincus about Robert Gates Insight into Washington…couple diddies:
He referred to politics currently as “a zero-sum policies and ideological siege warfare that are the new order of the day…by the capitals oversized egos and undersized backbones”…
He referred to “the highly gerrymandered system of district drawing to create safe seats for both parties resulting in elected representatives totally beholden to their party’s ideological base…wave elections that sweep one party in to power after another…each seized with ideological zeal and rightness of their agenda”…
Here’s the best: “we are in a 20/7 digital media environment that provides a forum and wide dissemination for the most extreme and vitriolic views, leading to a coarsening and a dumbing down of our national political discourse…”

While House Republicans couldn’t get their act together to approve an extension of the payroll tax holiday and unemployment benefits last night, they were able to do something far more frivolousness — commission a bust of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to be placed in the Capitol. The House “adjourned moments after” passing the bill, which directs:
That the Architect of the Capitol place an appropriate statue or bust of Sir Winston Churchill in the United States Capitol at a location directed by the House Fine Arts Board in consultation with the Speaker.
The resolution was seen as a rebuke to the White House, which returned a bust of Churchill to the British Embassy in 2009.

I am back to a post made what seems like years ago, that being, the Conservative faithful will not see the changes they want until McConnell is no longer leading the Senate Republicans. There is no way he should have allowed Reid to paint him into this corner. If this mess works out to the Left’s failure, McConnell owns it.

On “The Help…” I wasn’t overly impressed myself. And how does Jackson feel? Well, she IS a writer from Jackson and you know Mississippi’s pride there…I’ve always found it fascinating that the first off Broadway production of Boys in the Band was in Jackson…It may be about f*ggots, but Crowley IS from Mississippi!
Way back when I was an arts and entertainment editor over there, the blue haired biddies pulled one heckuva coup and got Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote for the Arts Fest, unknowing of the b*tch fight between the two. And give them their credit for being Southern gentlemen of culture and breeding…the only request they made was that they not be on stage together…Truman was even gracious enough to insist that Tennessee get top billing, being the native son.
There’s a lot more happened during that particular event, but that’s for another time and another place. But I did get the chance to go for a night on the town with Tennessee, a great moment in my life. He knew Jackson and what did he want to do first? Fried dill pickles at Mack’s By the Tracks!

The facts about the House Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators.
Republicans say America is at a crossroads and House Republicans are committed to taking every possible step to spur job creation and get our economy back on track so that Americans can do what they do best: create, innovate and lead. The pro-growth agenda detailed below builds on the GOP Pledge to America, our governing agenda focused on job creation and economic growth. It will address our economic challenges, foster innovation and investment, and help job creators without raising taxes on working families and small business owners.

According to a new peer-reviewed study published in the December edition of the International Journal of Health Services – researchers found that there were 14,000 excess deaths in America in the 14 weeks after the Fukushima meltdown – and they believe these deaths can be traced back to radioactive fallout. Most of the deaths were infants – under the age of one – and studies show that despite infant death DECREASING by more than 8% this year in the weeks leading UP to Fukushima – infant death in American INCREASED this year by nearly 2% in the weeks AFTER Fukushima. A similar phenomenon was studied at Chernobyl in 1986 – where more than 16,000 excess deaths were reported weeks after the meltdown. Numbers by the Center for Disease Control back up this study – finding that deaths in America’s biggest cities spiked 4.5 percent from last year in the weeks after Fukushima. Sadly – we’re just scratching the surface when it comes to how dangerous nuclear power is – yet we keep subsidizing reactors with our tax dollars. This is insanity.
but according to the right wingnuts, it gives the ilk a nice green glow so its okay….. just as making changes to EPA regulatory authority to deregulate incinerators and boilers is predicted to lead to an estimated 20,000 premature deaths…. but toe the righties, thats job creation….someone has got to dig those graves and replace those workers…

Granny….. job creators don’t have to worry about the deaths of th 99%…..
From Lisa Jackson (admin of EPA) Op-Ed:
Too dirty to fail” tries to convince Americans that they must choose between their health and the economy, a choice that’s been proved wrong for the four decades that the EPA has been in existence. No credible economist links our current economic crisis — or any economic crisis — to tough clean-air and clean-water standards.
A better approach is the president’s call for federal agencies to ensure that regulations don’t overburden American businesses. The EPA has already put that into effect by repealing or revising several unnecessary rules, while ensuring that essential health protections remain intact.
We can put Americans to work retrofitting outdated, dirty plants with updated pollution control technology. There are about 1,100 coal-fired units at about 500 power plants in this country. About half of these units are more than 40 years old, and about three-quarters of them are more than 30 years old. Of these 1,100 units, 44% do not use pollution controls such as scrubbers or catalysts to limit emissions, and they pour unlimited amounts of mercury, lead, arsenic and acid gases into our air. Despite requirements in the bipartisan 1990 Clean Air Act amendments, these facilities have largely refused to control their emissions — creating an uneven playing field for companies who play by the rules and gaming the system at the expense of our health.
If these plants continue to operate without pollution limits, as a legislative wish list from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) would allow, there will be more cases of asthma, respiratory illness and premature deaths — with no clear path to new jobs.
By contrast, the nation’s first-ever standards for mercury and other air toxic pollutants which the EPA will finalize this fall — and which the Republican leadership aims to block — are estimated to create 31,000 short-term construction jobs and 9,000 long-term jobs in the utility sector through modernizing power plants. And the savings in health benefits are estimated to be up to $140 billion per year by 2016.
So the Republicans are killing jobs and people.

Sink, you apparently cannot distinguish between the reporting source and the actual information reported. I know it takes a level of intelligence that escapes many. The EPA provided the information and the estimate. Huffington Post (as did others) merely reported. If Fox reported the same story from the same information source (the EPA), I am sure you would accept its credibilty, right? Except that it has been proven a number of times with recent charts and graphs and other misinformation attempts that Fox distorts the report. Now again squirt, why dont you discuss the EPA findings rather than just act like a troll. Are you capable?

Yes, we need to find alternatives……but not at the expense of what currently props up our way of life.
What we have readily available would not be at the expense of what currently props us up. You’re looking at job opportunity in different areas, but the big oil companies do not want anybody jumping onto their monopoly. We already have vehicles that are capable of running on CNG. We have the ability to use hydrogen for different things. Shadetree mechanics have already figured out how to run diesel engines on vegetable oil.
The blueprint is staring us in the face, but we’re too scared to take that step forward. Doing one-off projects here and there will not do it. It will take a concerted effort from everybody to get things going.

Well, this latest poll kinda reminds me of the old story of the preacher that went to visit a moonshiner. After sampling the product a little too much, he started to walk home. Along the way he got real tired. Seeing a haystack near the road he walked to it and laid down to take a nap. Some boys up to no good sneaked up and set the haystack on fire. The preacher woke up and saw the flames rising above him. He said, “In he[[, just as I expected.”
And that’s where we’ll be in November. I ain’t worried about the flames, but when No. 1 Foxy Lady gets on here the day after the election and tells us Conservatives to . . . well, you know.

I scoffed and challenged him or anyone to name someone who had passed a because these centers weren’t available. He couldn’t of course, but guess what???

[B]etween 1980 and 2007 the global labor force rose from 1.9 billion to 3.1 billion, a growth rate of 63 percent. Historical transition to capitalism in many less-developed parts of the world, which has led to the so-called de-peasantization, or proletarianization and urbanization, especially in countries such as China and India, is obviously a major source of the enlargement of the worldwide labor force, and its availability to global capital. The ILO report further shows that, worldwide, the ratio of the active (or employed) to reserve (or unemployed) army of labor is less than 50%, that is, more than half of the global labor force is unemployed [6].
It is this huge and readily available pool of the unemployed, along with the ease of production anywhere in the world—not some abstract or evil intentions of “right-wing Republicans and wicked Neoliberals,” as Keynesians argue—that has forced the working class, especially in the US and other advanced capitalist countries, into submission: going along with the brutal austerity schemes of wage and benefit cuts, of layoffs and union busting, of part-time and contingency employment, and the like.

They have taken it upon themselves to make their number 1 goal to make President Obama a one term President. This is not what they were sent to Washington to do. Therefore come election time next year they will all be fired and removed from their positions in the house of congress. Here are the names of 4 of our Tea Party Representatives that were sent to Washington. Congressman Paul Broun, Congressman Phil Gingrey, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, and Congressman Tom Price. Post these names on your refrigerator or on your calendar for next year, or on your Desk, just don’t forget these names because these four Tea Party Republicans as well as others from this state have failed at doing their JOBS. Marx characterized capitalism’s ability to create a big pool of the unemployed, or “relative surplus population,” in order to create a largely poor and meek working class as “immiseration” of the labor force, a built-in mechanism that is essential to the “general law” of capitalist accumulation:
“In proportion as capital accumulates, the situation of the worker, be his payment high or low, must grow worse.… The law which always holds the relative surplus population in equilibrium with the extent and energy of accumulation rivets the worker to capital more firmly than the wedges of Hephaestus held Prometheus to the rock. It makes an accumulation of misery a necessary condition, corresponding to the accumulation of wealth. Accumulation at one pole is, therefore, at the same time accumulation of misery, the torment of labour, slavery, ignorance, brutalization and moral degradation at the opposite pole, i.e. on the side of the class that produces its own product as capital”

To resume my opposition to thoughts advanced in your last column (a far more important subject), Jay, here are a couple quotes from Jefferson regarding the Supreme Court:
“This member of the Government was at first the most harmless and helpless of all its organs. But it has proved that the power of declaring what the law is….can do what open force would not dare to attempt.”
“To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy.”
The plain fact is that the role of the judicial branch was much debated before the Constitutional Convention and the original idea of it being a kind of arbiter of legislation was dismissed and the presidential veto was adopted instead. It was the SCOTUS that gave itself the power of which Jefferson was sagely afraid in the early 1800s in the Marbury ruling.
Robert Yates, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, was eerily prophetic when he wrote that the court will:
“…in their decisions not confine themselves to any fixed or established rules, but will determine, according to what appears to them, the reason and spirit of the constitution. The opinions of the supreme court, whatever they may be, will have the force of law; because there is no power provided in the constitution, that can correct their errors, or control their adjudications. From this court there is no appeal.”
Can you say Plessy v. Ferguson? How about the 2000 presidential election? I mention these because you likely will not care that the SCOTUS has made pornography an instance of free “speech.” NOW do you get where Gingrich’s comments come from? They are a visceral reaction to the abuses of the court. So take off your ideological blinders for a minute or two, dismount from your high horse and grasp what a number of Americans are justly peeved about.

If I don’t do my job and do it well, I feel ashamed. Harry Reid clearly has no capacity to feel shame. He blames others after failing to pass or even propose a budget for THREE YEARS. This is the single most important job of the Senate Majority (yes liberals Democrats have a MAJORITY in the senate so quit blaming the “Republican Congress” ) and no senate has failed to handle this responsibility in the history of our republic. A competent Chief Executive would be on his a$$ about meeting the responsibilities of his office but our President is too busy getting re-elected and protecting his party to actually lead.

Obama signs in his first law: equal pay rights in workplace
Barack Obama yesterday drew a clear line between his presidency and that of George Bush in his support for women’s rights, when he signed an equal pay law as his first piece of legislation yesterday.
In a celebration at the White House for women and labor activists, Obama paid tribute to a former supervisor at an Alabama tire factory who fought for the legislation which bears her name.
The Lilly Ledbetter law, which allows workers greater latitude to sue their employers for unequal pay, had been blocked by Bush and opposed by Republican members of Congress, including presidential candidate John McCain.

This is somewhat of a head scratcher because the Pub/Cons want to put this reduction into place for a full year – worth about $1,000 + for the average family. The Dems want it in place for only two months – worth about $170 for the average family. But, it is the Pubs are being demonized by the government has got to take care of us crowd. Two reasons for this, I think. First, Boehner sent mixed signals to the Senate about supporting a reasonable agreement. He should have learned by now in this highly polarized environment where mixed and unclear signals lead – sometimes even crystal clear communication – so he handled it badly, even though the plan he supports is of greater benefit, he is risking major blame on the Pub/Cons if the reduction expires. Calling the Senate back now is a non-starter. Plus the medicare fix for the docs will not take place The Pub/Cons need to cave on this one, and hopefully learn a lesson. And Boehner needs to remember, the Tea Party (like African Americans with the Dem/Libs) have no place else to go, so he does not have to do everything they tell him to do.
The other reason is also pretty clear. The Dem/Libs will constantly pass stop-gaps, interim, and kick the can down the road solutions and resolutions because they have been doing that for decades (which as someone noted is really why we are where we are now), and for reasons not as clear, it always plays to their advantage. The Dems did not pass a budget for two years when they were in full control of the Congress. If the Pubs had not come into power in the House last year, there would still not be one. They are the crown princes of continuing resolutions which help their near term political prospects immensely (Americans, especially Dem/Libs, love instant fixes and instant gratification), but which never solve the ongoing enormous problem that this nation spends far more than it collects in revenues. For blatant political purposes and advantage, the Dem/Libs will create, set up, and orchestrate these battles that risk any number of benefits to voters, military veterans, old folks, or whomever, by following their DNA and creating measures that deal only with the present, and which provide them with the benefit of letting things pile up in a very bad way for future generations. In the near term, every fight or delay that Reid and Pelosi can create which will allow them to continue the argument of increasing taxes in a recession, they will create. And it is clear that they want this issue front and center again in February so it will look like, once again, those mean old Pub/Cons who wanted to fix it for at least a year are taking government bennies away from the people.

According to new figures released today from Germany’s energy working group, AGEB, energy consumption in the country dropped 4.8% in 2011 from 2010.
German consumption of oil fell 3%, gas by 10.2%, lignite coal by 0.7% (although hard coal rose 3.7%), and nuclear by 22.9%. At the same time, use of renewable energy climbed by 4.1% and represented about 20% of the country’s energy consumption in 2011.
An increase in residential and industrial efficiency combined with milder temperatures in 2011 provided the conditions for the decrease in consumption.
So is that increase in renewable energy and efficiency killing the German economy? Analysts expect German GDP growth to be around 3% in 2011, about the same projected for the U.S.
Well we stole the highway idea and any number of other ideas….perhaps we should be following Germany’s lead.

Don’t worry GOP Bushpigs.
Fat Rush will tell you what to think on Wednesday.
Now while I do not agree with calling names; some of the posters on this blog should include a footnote for quoting Rush.
I listen to Rush’s show from time to time and the one thing that I notice is that Rush never has anyone with a differing opinion on his show. Say what you will about Sharpton; but Sharpton will go toe to toe in a debate. Sharpton has appeared on many a political shows to defend his position. I’ve not seen Rush go toe to toe with anyone of a differing opinion.
I was listening to Rush yesterday (on Monday afternoon 12/19 – don’t think it was a best of Rush) and one guy called in to tell Rush that his girlfriend, whom was suffering from non-Hodgkins lympoma, had been informed by the facility at which she was being treated, that she was basically cut off due to the balance owed to the facility. Now he went on to state that she had fallen behind on payments because she was unable to keep up with the payments. I am not sure if he meant her medical premiums or payments to the treating facility directly. Well he stated that he suggested she call the Lymphoma/Leukemia society to state her case. According to the caller, she did and the society sent her a check for $5000.00. Well after a few minutes of praising the society, Rush then asked the caller “What do you think would have happened under Obamacare?”. The caller didn’t give an answer, so Rush stated “You don’t even want to think about it HUH?”.
Well, I wanted to know. I wanted either Rush or the caller to explain what would have happened to his girlfriend under Obamacare. Would the Leukemia/Lymphoma society not have donated, would the girlfriend have been able to afford the care? I mean what would have happened?
I am so sick of people throwing shyte out with nothing to back up their statement, but I’m even more tired of the sheep accepting it.
Then another guy called in and almost sounded like he was choked up because according to the caller, he started listening to Rush with his dad, and now he listens along with his 10 and 12 year old daughters. The listener went on to state that he was so thankful for what Rush had done for America and that now his daughters question what they are being taught in school? Well what the heck are 10 and 12 year olds being taught that it has to be questioned and what is it that Rush has done for America?
Someone please tell me what I am missing. What has Rush contributed to America?
I am not envious of Rush, heck I think he and his promoters are business smart as heck. They gave the angry white-American a justification for being angry all while Rush just clicks off and hangs out with some of the very people he pretends to hold in comtempt.
Nice gig if you can get and maintain it.

No matter who you vote for, a politician still get in.
Remember when Obama promised to end the war in 2009? Remember when Obama promised to close GITMO in 2009?
He’s just now ended the Iraq war because his diplomats failed to negotiate an extended deadline. And he’s just signed a bill that allows American citizens, taken captive on American soil, to be spirited to GITMO without charge and without hearing because his administration insists that American is a “terrorist.”
Time to drop this fraud, despite what Bookman says.

While your messiah’s fortunes allegedly ‘rise’, everyone else’s sink like a stone, financially.
News reports put the Obama upcoming planned family vacation in Hawaii at @ $17 million to the taxpayers….that’s 17 with six zeroes, which, even if you throw in the family dog, comes up one zero short.
Anyway, back to the point.
Based upon the social security checks drawn by my wife and myself, this vacation could pay my SS for the next 6230 months, or 519 years, more or less. Since I probably won’t live that long, in more practical terms, it essentially amounts to the SS payments for 52 people (26 couples) for the next 20 years.
Its not as if this idiot has been on vacation the last 3 years anyway, but his arrogant personal waste of taxpayer money spits in the faces of all Americans, including you drooling minions and media stooges.
And yet you take it and worship this ignorant sap still.
You people are pathetic.

I sent this to you yesterday….
—————————
USinUK,
Are you out there?
I wanted to tell you of a “Normal Rockwell” moment I had yesterday with my 3 year old Great Grand Daughter…
She was out with her Nana shopping and when she came home I was raking leaves from our pond area. She stayed out with me, and we talked about her “day”. Then I said I’d better get busy and finish this and I started working again. As I was working, I saw that she was picking up pine straw, one at a time, and putting them in a neat little stack. I asked her if she was making a straw house.
She said, “No Grandpa, I’m helping you.” We hugged and went inside for some cookies and milk.
Good vibes like that just had to be rewarded. Gotta love ‘em…

USing, I remember those dark afternoons when I was stationed there! At one point I was working swing shift (4 to midnight) and it was dark when I went to work and if I was lucky I might see five or six hours of daylight on any given day. Those winter nights out on the flight line were cold, wet and miserable.

Drooling right Jay…but how about talking facts…Obama Harry and Nancy had complete control of the government for two (2) years and failed to pass a budget…but they did pass a 2,000 page to 3,000 page health spending bill that appears to be unconstitutional. As for the payroll tax, this hardly effective the average working person and it was a reduction of a contribution to Social Security. you know, that entitlement program that was to be self funded, except the Elite DC folks left nothing but IOU’s and it is now broke and now all you guys are yelling about a tax reduction that has no real effect on the take home pay for almost everyone. Talk facts, Jay, and quite being a puppet for Obama, Harry, Nancy and the Chicago mob who have done more harm to the economy than all before them.
