‘Empty suit with broken zipper’ under attack in Iowa

Newt Gingrich has become the target of an all-out advertising and media blitz in Iowa, launched by fellow candidates and others determined that he will not become the party nominee.

Ron Paul is using his money to savage the former speaker. (”Pointing out people’s positions is not negative,” Paul says.) A pastor backing Michele Bachmann is calling Gingrich “a very fine, empty suit with a broken zipper,” dismissing him as “a glib, wordy cheater.” Mitt Romney says Gingrich is “zany,” and has released an ad that closes with the question “With friends like Newt, who needs the left?”

Restore Our Future, a pro-Romney PAC, is also running the following ad:

It’s apparently having a serious impact. A new Rasmussen poll now puts Romney ahead in Iowa with 23 percent of the vote, with Gingrich second at 20 percent and Paul at 18 percent. Public Policy Polling also reports a tight three-man race, with Gingrich (22 percent) falling quickly, with Paul (21 percent) and Romney (16 percent) close behind.

More telling, a PPP poll a week ago put Newt’s approval/disapproval numbers at 62/31. In the new poll, that has dropped to 52/40, and support among Tea Party voters has fallen from 35 percent to 24 percent.

Another Newt rant. Yawn. The only thing that might spice this discussion up a bit is if Bookman produced his own political ads. How many threads does it take for Bookman to establish Newt as a philandering, fat, pseudo-history professor with a credit card problem. Enough already. We get the message.

I’m hearing the it again, so help me understand where did the term Messiah and Obama become linked

It stems from your God being government because typically liberals don’t believe in God, or have omitted parts of God’s word to make it convenient for their lifestyle/belief system.
Obama is the leader of the government you want that re-inforces your belief system, as you typically attack those with church based faith.

Ron Paul has always truck me as an interesting guy. And he certainly has more courage to speak truth to power than your garden variety neo-con.

But he’s in a no-win situation.

He is voluntarily involved in the crime syndicate/incumbency protection racket known as the GOP.

And only halfheartedly speaks to their endless crimes. And in the debates he has been particularly timid.

But essentially and in many ways, he is on the right track, certainly more so than the mainstream party criminals themselves are…

“…the bill would require that the military take custody of a suspect deemed to be a member of al-Qaeda or its affiliates and who is involved in plotting or committing attacks on the United States.”

This means the President who is the Commander in Chief. I can think of several presidents I would not want to have this authority. And I can think of no president who would not love to have this authority.

And if the Commander in Chief refuses to take custody?

As usual nothing is as simple as it appears on the surface.

This is more Big Government, more power to the Central Government.

I guess all the Small Government Republicans are out hiding in the woods.

getalife, You have to understand that I am a Vet that served in Iraq. When the decision to go to Iraq was coming around, I probably had a little bit of revenge on my mind for 9-11 and general hatred towards Sadaam. My thought on Sadaam and Iraq’s involvement is that whether they had anything to do with 9-11, to me, remains to be proved or disproved. What is a fact is that Sadaam sponsored terror in the form of paying the families of suicide bombers. I thought it was a just cause and I thought it was in the interest of national security. We were going to take out a guy who killed 100s of thousands. From then on, though, I had mixed feelings. It was a few bad apples that ruined the bunch over there. You had a lot of people that were very appreciative but you have those ones that wanted you gone. I think we went about the invasion all wrong. There should have been more people. Rumsfeld Fd up badly and didn’t care for Shinseki’s opinion. As the conflict dragged on, the more I felt like we need to get out of there but I still felt that we should not just leave and allow the men who died there to die in vain. I am glad we are leaving there now. Obama has done good there to an extent. I, like many of his Generals, think we need some presence there but not in huge numbers.
I found Ron Paul rather recently. Here is another you have to understand about me. I can really care less about social issues. Gay sex, smoke weed, abortion….you name it….politicians stance on those subjects do not really influence my vote. His positions on issues I care about are pretty solid. He realizes that the greatest security risk to this country is that of being so far in debt that we cannot function and the only way to defend against that risk is to cut spending. It is hard to argue with that. If we do not survive as a country, then all of the rest won’t really matter.

Received an interesting e-mail yesterday, author unknown, source unknown (although some have attributed it to the Aussies)….

The big danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgement of a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is far more serious than Obama who is just a symptom of what ails America. Blaming the Prince of Fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools such as those who made him President.

Why you cannot see the validity in this is absurd.

Wow- Have you nothing left to find fault with but this bit of trivia? Do you have ANY idea why a personal decision such as this was made?? Could it perhaps have been a security concern?? “Yet your Ilk (kamchack) say he killed Bin laden”

Giving the ok to kill Bin Laden is not exactly the same as a drone malfunctioning or the operator of the drone doing something wrong…….

Whether one heaps praise on Obama (as many on the right did for Bush when Sadam was captured) or says he deserves no credit….. the drone and Bin Laden do not make a good analogy

Please try another one if you do not mind

Thanks

jm: you sure do spend a lot of time and energy on this lowest common denominator..is it all just so you can shout, “Obama’s a Muslim’?

Debbiedoright,

I think you read too much into my statement to getalife. Of course its not Obama’s fault a drone got lost. It is as you say ridiculous to blame him for every little military venture that can or did go wrong. And I certainly don’t blame the man for when an errant drone strike kills Pakistani civilians. He is taking the fight straight to them even if it is inside of Pakistan which is something W was loathe to do.

Hell I don’t blame Jimmy Carter for the failed operation to rescue the hostages in Iran back in 79. I was just relating to getalife that in his worldview Obama can do no wrong and W can do no right. Likewise there are of course some righties who believe the opposite.

But just to let you know Debbie I’m not going to be razzing you on poitics today. Instead I have one question for you. Who pray tell who is playing in the bcs title game opposite LSwho? Hee hee hee! Take that Debbiedo!

They BOTH suck

“You’ve located the lowest common denominator in liberal thinking…. Jay’s blog”

Yet you come here to spout right leaning talking points daily

What exactly does that say about you?

Pea – Uh huh…what name did you used to use? This is the first time I’ve seen “Erwin’s Cat”.

aka Schrodinger’s cat…I had no idea Schrodinger’s cat had gone as mainstream as it had when I picked that moniker so I defaulted to Erwin’s cat as in Erwin Schrodinger…not quite as obviously tied to the quantum world

Did you get upset with w breaking the vacation record?

Did you get upset when he showed up falling down drunk at the Olympics?

Scott: I wasn’t fighting for 9-11 but rather against terrorism and whether you like it or not Sadaam supported terrorism and deserved to go down.

You do know, don’t you, that America has sponsored more terrorists than Saddam ever did? Americans funded Bin Laden in Afghanistan against the Russians, they funded the Sandinistas in S. America, etc. etc.
