This is my favorite holiday of the year. The kids are back in town, the turkey’s in the fridge, and for a little while at least, all is right with the world. Enjoy and be thankful, and remember that what divides us is much smaller and less significant than what unites us.
Now sing it, Louie!

Well, we got a 20 lb. turkey and a 14 lb. Honeybaked ham and all kinds of other stuff. Not to mention pumpkin pie and coconut cream pie. They might could need to widen the door on the trailer to get me out to work Friday a.m. There’ll be me and the missus and little _____ Zell George and my daughter and my son that just got out of the slammer for meth possession again. We’ll need plenty of leftovers because I expect the Rev. Jim Bob Buice to come skulking out of the darkness come nightfall. The state won’t let him around kids no more ever since he went to prison after being found buck-nekkid in a bush where he was trying to rescue a boy. At least that’s what he claimed and I beleive him. A man of God wouldn’t be up to no good with a kid.
Anyhow, I want everybody to have a happy Thanksgiving. It’s too bad I have to work Friday while the schoolteachers and other leeches are off. I’ll be checking in Friday around quitting time to see if anybody’s playing Slim Whitman.

We are all here by random chance. You could have been born in North Korea, Iraq, Iran or Cuba. Just be glad, if not thankful, that you were born in a country where your hard work actually earns you something. If you have a house or Apt., enough to eat, medical and dental care, enough clothes and a car you are better off than more than half of the rest of the world.

I always wonder why the supery dupery uber conservatives jump to the illogical conclusion that liberals can not be Christians. I guess it’s just the basic things that those supery dupery uber conservatives fail to grasp. They can accurately project debt, revenues, taxes and employment from the top of their head, but fail to grasp something as simple as removing their blinding prejudices when it comes to the belief system of those who don’t think exactly as they do.

“said I didn’t believe in religions…big difference.”
And I don’t even have a problem with religion. Some people just need a structure to lean on. Heck, it’s even in the Bible: Luke 11:1, “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
The problem, and it’s not just religion either, is when someone – anyone – begins to think “this works for me, therefore EVERYONE should do it”

AMVET,
If you are still on, I am grateful someone pointed to my two favorite groups of Floyd and Zeppelin. It’s funny how my favorite Floyd album, AMIMALS to this day accurately defines just how polarized our global society remains. I was the man on the island alone dying of cancer as the pigs and sheep (95% on this blog unfortunately) never appealed to me. Not that I liked being a dog so I’m working on that diligently. The more I procede, the more my thoughts are not longer defined by the half-truths spouted by hard right or left which are simply hand-jive and again, only half truths.
Today is my favorite holiday. Hope all enjoy…..Look forward to picking fights again with all in short order and appreciate all thoughtful responses.

So, what am I thankful for today? Family, my country and Jay’s Blog. Now, the first two make sense and bring out all those warm, fuzzy feelings we so like to feel on this special day, and really, are those shared by just about everybody from across the land, but Jay’s Blog? Come on now.
But in a wonderful way, they are all one and the same and dedicated to the same principles. As I get ready to finish up the crepes, Unmentionable checks the ham, and we argue about which w(h)ine to take to that ingathering of tribes, what’s there in the back of our minds comes to the fore. Our gathering, our country, and, yes Jay’s blog, are what the day is all about. It’s about us and who we are in the great scheme of things, it’s about what unites us and not what divides us.
As the family sits down to feast in thanksgiving, the faces, our family, will mirror that. We are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhist and Hindu, believers and non believers, some passionant and pious, others lukewarm or irreverent. Some have roots in this land back to the mists of time, others just got here. We are every shade of skin, hair and eyes from across the spectrum. We are from Up North and Down South. We are rich, poor, and middle class. We are Democrats, Republicans, independents, leftists, rightists, conservatives, liberals, borderline fascists, die hard communists, and honey badgers. We can scrap like cats and dogs, or we can lie down together like the lion and lamb, however the mood strikes us. For all our differences we are, above all, family, in this boat and on this journey together. For that we are thankful.
We are America. We are blessed to live in a land which glorifies that, our family values, as our national values. For all of our flaws, shortcomings, and downright orneriness we belong together. There is this certain, almost inchoate and often unspoken, even mystical dedication to family, and not just the family thrown together by fate or celestial design at the dinner table, but the family of our nation and the family of mankind. For that, we are thankful.
And here on the blog, isn’t that who we really are, an American family? All kinds of folks with “a little bit of opinion about a whole lot of things.” Ready to talk dirt, call each other everything but a child of G-d, share a joke, share a song, and all bound together by that little “something” that, ever so often, and today especially, comes into focus. It’s who we are, and we have the freedom to be that. For that we are thankful.

Even trolls have to eat.
On the religion thing, I think religion is best between a person and their God. If you feel the need to share, then don’t be offended if I ask you not to share with me. I know that contradicts what’s said in the Bible, but the Bible is Man’s interpretation and/or recalling of what God said. It is not his exact words, and I feel that God, no matter what religion you follow, will speak to you personally when he needs to.

josef,
Very nice, indeed! My large extended family is not nearly as interesting: over-achieving WASPS wearing polished masks. There are rules about what we can and cannot say. (Tried expressing real feelings on T-Day once. Frowned upon!) The phone calls have already come around about what we must not discuss today.
Nonetheless, I enjoy seeing our clan’s (that’s Scottish for tribe, so don’t start anything) youngest members, who grow taller and more interesting every year, and the oldest members, who always have some tasty bit of wisdom or experience yet to be nibbled from their brains. Among my peer group, I’ll keep a respectable small-talk distance, exclaiming “Ohmygoodness!” and dashing off to the oven with urgency to check the casserole whenever the subject of my personal life comes slithering out of a smile-covered snark. (Tip: that’s the whole purpose of casseroles.)
But mostly, I will be thankful and indulgent of the FOOOOOOD, glorious FOOOOOOD! And yes, I was up late with my spawn whipping up the world’s BEST (super-secret recipe) pecan pie! Yep. It’s the best.In.The.World. Happy Thanksgiving!

“let them eat PIE!”
Some trolls get fed, others don’t. I don’t feed trolls like Ty Webb. That kind of troll needs to “die” as soon as possible. There’s nothing to say to someone like that.

josef, well said, brother. This day, as much or more than any other day, is our national day of brotherhood and sisterhood, of friends, families and strangers coming together in unity of spirit and thanksgiving.
And of course, sharing good food and drink!
Stevie Ray, our journeys of self-enlightenment and finding our “better selves’ is a righteous one. And sometimes, damn good fun to boot! I hope you enjoy the day and this time with your friends and family.
And that same wish goes out to all in JB’s blogging family…

“none of the aforementioned either impede or improve performance”
heehee … makes them sound like a car … you mean none of that has anything to do with how aerodynamic they are??
Keep Up the Good Fight!
