I can’t view the video, but the headline with Robertson saying that the GOP base is too extreme. . .
Just. Wow. Is he saying it’s too extreme left, or too extreme right, or . . . or. . . too fundementalist?

And the Dems are too far left when their only solution is to raise taxes on the rich, and they give out waivers to their wonderful health care plan to everyone who donates money, while forcing the nondonaters to have to deal with the bungled bill.
When was the last time Pat Robertson was relevant, anyway? Might as well quote Jimmy Carter.

Being a heathen I have little interest in the opinions of ministers from Farrakhan to Robertson. At least he didn’t predict the world was going to end. When Pat called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez he was universally denounced at a nut job by all the left-wing intelligentsia. But when The Messiah puts the hit on Colonel K, Bookman wants to nominate him for another Nobel Peace Prize. Maybe Pat would have done better with a teleprompter. Actually he sounds sane compared to Plugs.

Oh Lord obama, please take mercy on those heartless republicans that refuse to worship you and instead of having you provide every need have decided that hard work and self worth are the ways to have a bountiful life. Dear mm @ 3:40, good afternoon, you miss the main distinction between our ideologies. Conservatives do not care “who” says anything, we are only interested in the reasoning behind an affirmation. OK, so you get pulled over in your “Don’t Tread” truck and tell the nice police officer this little tidbit of information, and you are now surprised in the fact that your government calls you a domestic terrorist.

Well, guess I must of done lived too long. There’s somebody on here that don’t know who the Rev. Pat Robertson is. To tell the truth, I get them mixed up too. I’m pretty sure he ain’t the one that chased the secretary and then got on TV and said, “I have sinned, Lord.” And he ain’t the one that was married to the ugly woman that put on make-up with a shovel and sold all the rooms in a place he built about 30 times over and then went to prison. And I’m pretty sure he ain’t the one that sniffed cocaine and got outted by his gay lover and then got kicked out of his church.
The question I got is, How come the libruls don’t have a bunch of TV preachers that come out and say things that rile people up? I mean, they got preachers but they don’t have their own TV shows.
Anyhow, you got to admit us Conservatives got lots of preachers we follow. One of them’s got to be right and that means we’ll be in Heaven while the libruls are roasting marshmallows you-know-where.

Just remember that George W. Bush, who lied and got us into two wars in which all those who have died and will still die have probably lost their lives for nothing, got elected and re-elected. Bachmann and Perry and Bush are like peas in a pod and I don’t see any evidence that the Republican electorate has gotten any smarter. If fact, based on some of the posts here, they are dumber than ever. And the Union went to war to protect slavery…they were motivated by upholding the Constitution. Slavery was constituitional. And only 20% of the Confederates owned slaves. The percentage of Free People of Color who were slave owners was slightly higher. Confederates ran the gamut of humanity and Johnny Reb went to war for almost as many reasons as there were Johnny Rebs…traitors? Of course. They lost.

Liberalefty,
You might get a different prospective about hanging Lee and Davis if you read O’Reilly’s book, “Killing Lincoln”. The book is entirely non-political and portrays JW Booth as a depraved Southerner hell bent on killing Lincoln and destroying everything Lincoln stood for. On the other hand, Lincoln recognized the value of just sending everyone home, no trials, no reprisals, no hangings. He needed the South to help rebuild the Union, especially the agriculture of the South. Andrew Johnson, his veep, felt a lot like you…. hang ‘em all. I wonder what might have happened if Booth had not been successful.

Since Jay is my hero and I wish to emulate everything he does, here is the voice of the leader of lib ilk, Tom Joyner:
“Let’s not deal with the facts right now,” he said. “Let’s deal with just our blackness and pride — and loyalty. We have the chance to re-elect the first African-American president, and that’s what we ought to be doing. And I’m not afraid or ashamed to say that as black people, we should do it because he’s a black man.”

Jm – I do understand what you mean by managing money. But a true 1% pays others to do that along with tax lawyers, etc. to keep the taxes as low as possible given the current tax code.
That said the tax code is a mess with too many loopholes.
Why not instead of abolishing the code. Turn it on it’s head and abolish the loopholes for 1 year for personal and corporate to see what happens.

Conspiracy theories? I got one. Did ya’ll know that W used to have a special computer that had knobs that controlled the price of oil. When he felt like his friends in big oil weren’t making enough money he would turn the knob that raises the price and voila, that shell oil guy and others raked it in. And there are a fair amount of people who would believe that. Gee whiz there was a occupy atlanta protester who said today on the radio that they were going to protest at the georgia pacific building and levitate the building 4 feet off the ground. Funniest news clip I ever did hear. Then they protested the Koch brothers and said they shouldn’t be allowed to contribute money to political causes. No surprise there. Liberals love free speech- when its their free speech only of course. Then we had the protester at Woodruff Park walking around with a loaded AK-47. I thought ya’ll said they only did that at the tea party rallies? I loves this occupy Atlanta group and I wish Kasim Reed would let them vent year round. Its much better than the comedy channel or SNL.

What you say is based on nothing but false premises, all of them myths, blown apart by recent or previous illumination.
I actually like it that you have to insert perjoratives into your screed when you mention “cons”. I like it the image–that even though you consider us dumb, intellectual low-lifes (but without any basis at all for saying so), like gum on your shoe–of you constantly bending down to scrape it off. There’s something both funny and sadly neurotic about your mental limping.
Be my guest to blame us “cons” or everyone in the world outside of the White House for every problem in your life. You just can’t stop doing it, though, outloud, whether anyone is reading, listening or no.
What that means is you’re just not well.
Good luck winning over converts with that “reasoning”.

A couple of those accusations of Hannity lying are from Media Matters which is a far left outfit that plays fast and loose with the truth and also with Jon Stewart who isn’t exactly a bastion of objectivity either. 2.3 million results isn’t impressive either if there are at least 60 million Americans who categorize themselves as liberal. When I get time though I actually will peruse through some of the other criticisms of him- just not from an outfit like Media Matters or Jon Stewart.

Interesting historical tidbit I saw somewhere. From conception to finish the Empire state building went up in 1 year. The freedom tower took 10 years to build with all the govt red tape and still isn’t finished. If you had to build the Hoover dam today I do wonder how many govt permits, environmental impact studies, and other hoops you would have to jump through to get it done in today’s environment. Speaking of nuisance lawsuits and red tape how many new nuke plants have gone up in the last 30 years?

Headline (CNN): “Obama to offer help for students buried in debt”
“The White House announced on Tuesday two new measures the Department of Education will start offering in January to help college graduates climb out of their student loan debt hole.
One of the proposals would push up the start date for more favorable terms on a special loan repayment program based on income, said White House domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes. Another measure would encourage graduates with two or more different kinds of federal loans to consolidate them and get a small break on interest rates.”
I have a better idea !
Four years service in the U.S. military and half is totally forgiven.
Four years service in a “combat arms” unit of the U.S. Army or Marine Corps and “all” is forgiven.

AmVet,
I actually have read some things from media matters that I found to be credible so I won’t completely box myself in. Sheesh- You read Newsmax? I don’t even read that. I view it with the same suspicion as I do media matters. Some of the articles in both may be true but what is and isn’t true is too much to go through to try and decipher.
I watch faux news, CNN, and tune in to the network news several times a week. The network news I kinda switch up a bit but I find Diane Sawyer at ABC so blatantly left wing that I automatically discount much of what she says. What did it for me was when the tornadoes hit Tuscaloosa and Joplin and Sawyer was fuming and implying that there had to be an obvious connection between some random but deadly tornados and global warming. She even tried to browbeat the meterologist into going along with a linkage between the 2. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. The meterologist had a shocked look on his face that she believed this and was trying to get him to agree with it but he politely dismissed your theory in a gentlemanly manner.

That one in Japan I think was built in 72 or 1982. Interesting story about it. 2 American engineers walked off the job decades ago citing a faulty design structure and stating the plant would be unsafe in the event of an earthquake but if I remember correctly they disapproved of the plant design regardless of a quake or tsunami event. But that site not only was poorly built but had the misfortune of being built in a zone where it never should have been built due to tsunami and quake concerns. But even then outside of Chernobyl the safety record of nuke power worldwide is very good.

As long as nuclear power creates radioactive waste, it’s not worth it. If they could develop fission, I’d say go for it but we don’t have it. The sun is sitting up there radiating free energy, we just have to figure better ways to harness it, that’s the future…

I’m with you. I would love to see complete solar and wind use. Unfortunately its been around a lot longer than you think and its simply not proving feasible and doesn’t look that way for quite awhile if ever. The choice in the shorter and intermediate term is very simple. Burn fossil fuels or go nuke which does create radioactive waste but that waste can easily be stored away. If the French who are very green can get 80% of their power from nukes which is clean and have plenty of space to safely store the waste then there is no reason why we can’t do the same. No reason whatsoever. We do it allready after all and get 20% of our power from nukes. WIth that I am outta here.

Obama, (who actually is saying) “Republicans don’t have a jobs plan”.
We’re down to teachers, cops and firefighters. What a straw-man argument.
Today he said some tax on millionaires would pay for 400,000 jobs–just $500 from each mill would do this. This figure is for “saved jobs” a number he can fudge–probably already has–and a number that won’t come back to haunt him before he crashes and burns next year anyway.

I think your post above is extremely flawed. There is a great chasm between Obama and the Republicans. Whoever wins the Republican primary is going to the White House, I believe, as do you.
That said,no reasoned individual can deny that Mitt Romney is much much much closer to Perry, Cain and the others than he is to Obama. What you seem to be arguing is that you will ignore the substance of the campaign and decide based on what?, what the media says about the candidates? the smoothness of personality? how they look on TV?

The GOP since the collapse has had exactly ten months of power in the House only, while Obama and the Dems have had two years of absolute control–even a the very rare and unusual filibuster-proof control of the Senate.
No reasonable person can deny that the Republicans had zero power at this time, and no reasonable person can deny that it was Democrats in their state of absolute power, who at that time, voted not to raise taxes–taxes they now claim raising is critical (laughably) for the survival or our national bureaucracy and labor unions….. er, excuse me,…. for the survival of the nation.

Rachel Madcow or one of the charities she supports would have helped tie-up a big project like the Hoover dam for decades with some enviro-BS about fresh-water clams or “historical rocks” or anything they could throw up in the air to stop progress.
What kills me is, why to they call themselves “progressives”.
The HOOVER DAM!! Farmer’s can’t even plow when they want, and use the fertilizer they want to plant the crops they want for fear of the wrath of EPA. Look at any engineering, architectural magazine or public policy magazine. All the big bridges, dams and great amphitheatures and other structures are being built elsewhere in the world, many of them in China. Whether or not Samuel Adams helped plan the Boston Tea Party is unknown, but he immediately worked to publicize and defend it.[61] He argued that the Tea Party was not the act of a lawless mob, but was instead a principled protest and the only remaining option the people had to defend their constitutional rights.[62]
While tents and signs are not corporately owned tea…the basics remain the same, this is “a principled protest and the only remaining option the people had to defend their constitutional rights”

meanwhile, in the REAL world, an 18% increase over 30 years really isn’t much to cheer about:
The nonpartisan agency said in a report that after-tax income on average grew by 62% during the 30-year period. But that growth wasn’t even. The wealthiest 1% of Americans saw their incomes skyrocket by 275% during that stretch, while after-tax income for the one-fifth of households with the lowest income grew by just 18% from 1979 to 2007.
oh, and those “47%ers who take take take”???
The poorest 20% of the population received more than 50% of government transfers in 1979, but that had fallen to around 35% by 2007, the CBO said. This was largely because of the rise of spending focused on the programs benefiting the elderly such as Social Security and unemployment compensation that aren’t limited to low-income households.

Why we still have a judicial system, despite the right wing’s efforts to “purify” it:
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/world/52783823-68/abortion-law-judge-women.html.csp
A federal judge blocked part of North Carolina’s new abortion law Tuesday, ruling providers do not have to place an ultrasound image next to a pregnant woman so she can view it, nor do they have to describe its features and offer her the chance to listen to the heartbeat.
The law was set to take effect Wednesday, but U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles’ decision puts a key section of it on hold until she can hear more arguments.
North Carolina legislators and officials have argued that by offering the image to a woman seeking an abortion and other information they would promote childbirth and protect patients from emotional distress associated with the procedure and possible coercion. The judge said she received no evidence supporting those arguments.
North Carolina officials “have not articulated how the speech-and-display requirements address the stated concern in reducing compelled abortions, and none is immediately apparent,” the judge wrote in a preliminary injunction.

about the right-wing “purification” efforts, if you missed it:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/24/us/politics/republicans-turn-judicial-power-into-a-campaign-issue.html
The Republican candidates have focused their anger at court rulings on social issues like abortion, same-sex marriage and the role of religion in public life. Those issues hold the potential to fire up the party’s base and to provide crucial support in the primaries.
“There’s an even more dramatic overstep on the part of the courts now,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a conservative legal advocacy group. “With the grass-roots revolution on the ground and the Tea Party movement, there’s a desire for a return back to first principles.”
“I don’t think it’s an anticourt movement,” Ms. Dannenfelser added. “It’s a purifying of the court — trying to return it to where it should be.”

There has been a massive pussification of Republicans.
During the “war president’s” reign, it was tragic just how a tiny few of them had ever served in uniform. Service avoiders such as Cheney and the cowardly Saxby ran the Republican show, with a yellow streak a mile long. It was beyond absurd how these gutless little jerks feigned being tough guys.
Now they do it again in another battle.
Millions of Americans are fed up with these p*ssies and their ongoing efforts to destroy the middle class.
The working class Americans who have gotten stomped on for a long time will not lay down like our servile neo-cons, who cannot muster up the courage to even say boo about this untenable situation facing us.
This alone explains the bizarre neo-con anger and fear about those who have.
Sure, they hide behind their little, way-off-base snarkiness about people needing showers and unemployed losers and no message (WTF?!), but it is obvious that this is purely transparent desperation to cover up their own cowardice and utter lack of outrage at those who should be held accountable.
They know that Americans are looking at them and wondering what the hell is the matter with these Republiloons???
They support the banksters???
They want the agents for injustice and inequality to keep on keeping on???
They want the Middle Class workers to just shut up, go home and take more of the same abuse?

On being 14, female, and hearing Sonic Youth’s “Youth Against Fascism” for the first time, around the time of the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, twenty years ago…
I mainly, at that point in time, liked reading books and listening to CDs, and it was the latter that pulled a brick out of my mental wall on this issue. Sonic Youth had a song on their 1992 record Dirty titled “Youth Against Fascism”, and it had the lyric “I believe Anita Hill/Judge will rot in hell” on it. It almost feels like an understatement to say that this lyric blew my mind. A man standing up for a woman—a woman he didn’t know, especially—in a dispute between a man and a woman over sexualized mistreatment? I had never experienced that before, and probably thought of it as simply impossible. Most women treated other women who spoke up about this stuff like pariahs, so the idea of a man calling bulls###, and being so angry about it, was just unbelievable to me. It felt so incredibly subversive. I didn’t want to be caught listening to that lyric. It seemed dirty to suggest that there was any alternative to simply enduring sexual harassment in silence.
[...]“[B]elieving” Anita Hill was such a complex and frankly radical thing to do in the early 90s. It wasn’t just that you were accepting her version of events. Many of her fiercest critics seemed not to deny that the events she described happened, after all. To believe Anita Hill was also to believe that Thomas was wrong to do the things he did. “Youth Against Fascism” made this clear. Thurston Moore didn’t just affirm that he believed that Hill’s testimony was factually accurate. He said that treating a woman like that was so wrong that a man who did such things would “burn in hell”. He said that it was a man’s fault if a man chooses to sexually harass a woman. No one around me was saying those things.
