josef,

Obama and self deprecating humor? I’ve never seen an ounce of it from Obama. I can’t imagine him having the humility to poke fun at his own self. Too much arrogance and hubris. Al Gore is a whole different story. He was pretty funny when he poked fun at himself. Reagan too. But I’ve never seen it from Obama. The closest I saw too it was when someone asked him about how many points he usally scores in a b-ball game and his reply was that he was an assist man.

Headline (CNN): “Obama to offer help for students buried in debt”

“The White House announced on Tuesday two new measures the Department of Education will start offering in January to help college graduates climb out of their student loan debt hole.

One of the proposals would push up the start date for more favorable terms on a special loan repayment program based on income, said White House domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes. Another measure would encourage graduates with two or more different kinds of federal loans to consolidate them and get a small break on interest rates.”

I have a better idea !

Four years service in the U.S. military and half is totally forgiven.

Four years service in a “combat arms” unit of the U.S. Army or Marine Corps and “all” is forgiven.

I view it with the same suspicion as I do media matters. Some of the articles in both may be true but what is and isn’t true is too much to go through to try and decipher.

I watch faux news, CNN, and tune in to the network news several times a week. The network news I kinda switch up a bit but I find Diane Sawyer at ABC so blatantly left wing that I automatically discount much of what she says. What did it for me was when the tornadoes hit Tuscaloosa and Joplin and Sawyer was fuming and implying that there had to be an obvious connection between some random but deadly tornados and global warming. She even tried to browbeat the meterologist into going along with a linkage between the 2. I couldn’t believe what I was watching. The meterologist had a shocked look on his face that she believed this and was trying to get him to agree with it but he politely dismissed your theory in a gentlemanly manner.

That one in Japan I think was built in 72 or 1982. Interesting story about it. 2 American engineers walked off the job decades ago citing a faulty design structure and stating the plant would be unsafe in the event of an earthquake but if I remember correctly they disapproved of the plant design regardless of a quake or tsunami event. But that site not only was poorly built but had the misfortune of being built in a zone where it never should have been built due to tsunami and quake concerns. But even then outside of Chernobyl the safety record of nuke power worldwide is very good.

I’m with you. I would love to see complete solar and wind use. Unfortunately its been around a lot longer than you think and its simply not proving feasible and doesn’t look that way for quite awhile if ever. The choice in the shorter and intermediate term is very simple. Burn fossil fuels or go nuke which does create radioactive waste but that waste can easily be stored away. If the French who are very green can get 80% of their power from nukes which is clean and have plenty of space to safely store the waste then there is no reason why we can’t do the same. No reason whatsoever. We do it allready after all and get 20% of our power from nukes. WIth that I am outta here.
