Obama: By end of year, ‘America’s war in Iraq will be over’

President Obama:

“As promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of year.  After nearly 9 years, America’s war in Iraq will be over. Over the next two months, our troops in Iraq– tens of thousands of them — will pack up their gear and board convoys for the journey home. The last Americans soldiers will cross the border out of Iraq with their heads held high. proud of their success and knowing that the American people stand united in our support for our troops. That is how America’s military efforts in Iraq will end. “

UPDATE AT 3:35:

Here’s the response of Mitt Romney, the GOP frontrunner:

“President Obama’s astonishing failure to secure an orderly transition in Iraq has unnecessarily put at risk the victories that were won through the blood and sacrifice of thousands of American men and women. The unavoidable question is whether this decision is the result of a naked political calculation or simply sheer ineptitude in negotiations with the Iraqi government. The American people deserve to hear the recommendations that were made by our military commanders in Iraq.”

Romney aside, I think the news deserves an early kickoff of Friday Traveling Music (a separate version will be posted later:

wow — “Joe, I find it very interesting how you come down on others for assuming things about you, but you are doing the exact same thing.”

No, I’m not. Ty obliquely insinuated that liberal posters here who claim to be veterans are not actually veterans. I asked him several times to clarify himself and point-blank told him what he seemed to be saying. He declined every request to clarify himself.

I made NO assumptions. I REPEATEDLY asked for clarification. Not receiving any, I’m content with my personal impressions of Ty.

“All I originally said was that ty did not owe you anything, which he doesn’t. ”

I agree. He doesn’t owe me anything. And I’m not going to treat him with any sort of respect, forebearance or politeness going forward. Perhaps you also recognize that *I* don’t owe *him* any of *that.*

“I called you out for being uneducated because that is exactly how you were acting.”

Go jump in a lake. You wrongly berate me for assuming when you’re doing *exactly* that. (laughing) :D

“You know nothing about me, nor my views on veterans.”

I didn’t ASK you your views on veterans, I didn’t COMMENT on your views on veterans and I don’t CARE what your views are on veterans. I was speaking with Ty before you butted in.

“It is a shame that anyone would tell you that you no longer qualified as a veteran for any reason, I do not agree with that on any level.”

Thank you.

“But you my friend have been and are being just as petty as many of the other people here.”

Noted and rejected.

“I enjoy reading what is written on many articles published, but I do not always comment. That is my choice and as you said, not something I should come under fire for just because someone (you) doesn’t agree.”

You’re coming under fire for not knowing WTF you’re talking about. Ty obliquely insulted liberal veterans on here and refused to clarify himself. I don’t owe him any understanding for that, and you’ve gotten a lot more explanation than YOU deserve.

“I appreciate what you did for our country, just as I appreciate what my grandfather, grandmother, father, father-in-law and MYSELF did for this county.”

Your views on veterans are not in question here. Get over yourself.

One scenario…the US pulls out, Iraq falls apart, the Sunni and Shia go cut-throat, the Christians and other religious minorities go to Kurdistan, Kurdistan invites the Americans in for protection, the Americans come in, get their bases to check Iran, the Kurdish-Israeli cooperation comes more into the open, commercially on the face and a strengthening of the current covert military cooperation and pretty much everybody will have gotten what they worked so hard for…

I read your link last evening, but I didn’t see anything substantive in it; it seemed only to make a bunch of unsupported claims.

Any chance you could post something more objective — maybe some legal commentary, an amicus brief, something highlighting it in a law journal? I recognize that you probably wouldn’t want to post something from a ‘lamestream’ or ‘librul’ site, but maybe some law review or law journal has something pertaining to it.

You seem to miss the point I made in the beginning…I do NOT think that OWS is any more anti Semitic than I think that the Tea Party are racists…you are throwing out words like all, entire etc…and, in so doing, are missing the point that the OWS has, in its drawing of nuts from the lunatic fringe as do all such movements, drawn more than its fair share of anti Semites…and note I said “more than its FAIR share…”

The point is, this yee haw was saying crudely much the same thing you hear constantly from both left and right…

Why is Soros such a devil for the righties?

I guess it’s just my MOT atennae and the old tradition of “code word for…”

And I realize that for many “it doesn’t fly” is an easy way to avoid the tendency anytime there is a major monetary/financial/economic crisis, anti Semitism raises its ugly head with depressing consistency…

There is nothing political about Obama pulling the troops out of Iraq. This president has brought our country CHANGE we can believe in. He has brought TRANSPARENCY to the office. I wasn’t angry until Ty insulted me and other veterans on here and then refused to man up and clarify his comments. I refuse to be held responsible for the comments of other posters.

“Maybe if you were more respectful of others”

I *repeatedly* and *politely* asked Ty to clarify himself and called him “sir.” If you think that’s insufficiently respectful, then I don’t think you’re being at all honest here.

“or just in general a nicer person, you might receive some of that respect.”

See above. If you think that it’s acceptable for Ty to insult veteran posters here and then refuse to clarify his comments when he’s politely asked to do so, then I don’t really care what you have to say on the matter.

“I will allow that you deserve respect for being a veteran, but for nothing more.”

Well, to hear Ty tell it, I’m either not or probably not a veteran at all.
