Gallup: Majority of Americans back pot legalization

This is, I think, one of the more dramatic reversals of public opinion of the past 30 years.

f9nyco05-um-ww_mfbuo9q

As Gallup notes, this is the first year in which a majority of Americans polled say they support legalization of marijuana, and the clear trend line suggests that majority is likely to grow. The realities of life offer further reason to think that trend will continue. Support for legalization is lowest among those 65 and older, and highest among those ages 18-29.

dq8bjss84e2ub3uwvjgeaa-1

Not surprisingly, Southern Republican conservatives older than 65 are least likely to support legalization. But even among that subgroup, it looks as though roughly a third or more think marijuana should be legal. That’s roughly the same level of support that existed in the nation as a whole just a decade ago.

I’m at a loss to explain that sudden shift in sentiment, because I have no idea what outside force might be driving it. It is, you might say, a homegrown movement.

Let’s legalize it, let those in prison for possession out, regulate it for safety (and quality,) tax it and pay off our deficit. From reading some of these posts, it’ll also free our creativity and spawn new markets. It’ll put people back to work–unless they’re having too much fun smoking and eating doughnuts to work.

As for calling someone a coward thats easy for someone to do when they are hiding behind a keyboard and the toughest they get is to tell someone they will meet them at a crowded starbucks in the middle of a mall to avoid the possible buttkicking that would ensue in say an empty parking lot. The irony of you calling someone else a coward. How funny. Mr. northpoint mall internet starbucks tough guy. So tough that when another poster said he would like to meet you in a parking lot you opted for the safety of a starbucks inside the mall. That’s rhetorical. The real coward is the con. All talk and too cowardly to meet with someone, in public, he wants to attack physically.

kammy the poo,

Son I just dont know how many times you have to be told the same darn thing. The one central point that is important is that its just plain cowardly and silly to challenge someone to meet them at a starbucks inside a busy mall. Hell if you want to insist that you’re version of how the verbal showdown went down then thats cool. I’ll give you that if it makes you feel better because it is irrelevant to the point at hand. What you cant change is the fact that its just plain cowardly to want to meet someone in a starbucks in a crowded mall. And there aint nothing you can say to change that kammy poo. Just another ankle biting sand flea.

did you think I was actually serious when I said Adam was that guy on tv?

It didn’t sound much like a joke with the dry, descriptive tone, which is why my eyes slid right over it. Re-reading it it’s more clearly a joke, with a terribly flat delivery. You’ve actually said some witty things on here, that was a C minus effort at best, so no, I can’t say I thought it was kidding around.

I’ve posted stuff that I thought was clearly a joke and gotten the same reaction so I don’t think you’ve committed a capital crime or anything. But when someone takes my words the wrong way, I don’t automatically assume it’s all in their head. It’s just how the internet works.

Ricky,

They don’t need to bribe pols to make money if they are such great capitalists.

When we stop the bribes, they can earn money like the rest of Americans.

And pay taxes like the rest of the Americans.

Fair enough?

sand flea,

I think its pretty clear what you were saying. You can parse words and hide behind semantics but your accusation in that statement is pretty clear to most people. Are you not man enough to admit what you were saying mr. starbucks northpoint mall internet tough guy? If you want to hide behind semantics then thats cool. You and I know the truth.
