Perry doesn’t exactly set the crowd afire

UPDATE: Rick Perry’s speaking style proves to be no more dynamic than his debating style, which surprises me. Even from a prepared script, his delivery was flat and awkward and didn’t exactly light the conservative audience at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center afire.

According to officials with the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, Perry had agreed to use the podium to discuss policy issues and not as a forum for attacking fellow Republicans. The Texas governor did not abide by that agreement, taking several shots at fellow frontrunner Mitt Romney.

Without actually naming Romney, Perry took issue with a certain governor from Massachusetts whose health-care plan “paved the way for ObamaCare” and who signed into law a regional cap-and-trade system to address climate change.

“I knew when I got into this race that I’d have my hands full fighting President Obama’s big-government agenda,” he said. “I just didn’t think it would be in the Republican primary.”

Perry also cited news reports in which the CEO of a major American corporation had said that it had become easier to do business in China than in the United States. He didn’t happen to mention that the CEO in question was Muhtar Kent of Coca Cola, a company with a rather high profile in these parts. It’s the kind of small but telling oversight that reflects poor staff work and a campaign and candidate not yet ready for prime time.

According to Perry staff, the governor will spend the rest of the day in Atlanta at fundraisers before flying to New Hampshire for a town hall meeting.

——

I’m at the Cobb Galleria waiting to hear Texas Gov. Rick Perry speak to the conservative Georgia Public Policy Foundation’s legislative policy conference. A lot of curiosity about the man and his message, although he’s only scheduled for 15 minutes. This is an important audience for someone without a large organization in Georgia. An audition, you might say.

Nope, that has nothing to do with it. Cain has a decent chance at getting the nomination from the GOP because he speaks to the base, and it’s the base that will determine the candidate. I’d give Cain a much better chance than Romney because of that fact. However, in the general election, I don’t think Cain would stand a chance because of his stances on many things are a bit too far to the right for some moderate independents to take.

That’s just my opinion though. Race has little to do with his electability.

Presidential Oath of Office: “I, ******** , do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and I will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Just as the military personnel who acted were probably just upholding their Oath of Enlistment as well.

Steele had too many issues against him with the finances and stuff. I don’t think he was as adept at fundraising as some in the past, and add the fact that he was spending more than he was taking in, and you have a good recipe to get tossed out faster than Bobby Cox arguing a strike three call. I’ll approach your query from this way:

There were a lot of issues pertaining to Steele’s departure as RNC Chair. For some, it was the profligate SPENDING (note the spending in strip clubs and Hawai’ian resorts) and the lack of accountability of the same; for some, it was a matter of style – some just couldn’t deal with his (for lack of a better term) “urban” approach. Steele also made some statements that were counter to the “traditional” conservative orthdoxy….and those in the party were in opposition!! There WERE those, however, that made it quite evident that it was racial! When I watched the RNC Meeting on C-SPAN that selected Reince Priebus, many made it quite evident that they were bothered by Steele’s race!! Which aspect was prevalent….I hesitate to say….but a combination of all factors led to the impetus to get Steele out!

Don’t think that many black people DIDN’T notice!! It just furthered the animus that the preponderance of African Americans have towards the GOP (not “brainwashed” as per Herman Cain!)! Actions speak louder than words!!
